    hi mark
glad your rads are low! we are having a pollution incident in europe from alot of reactors !!

    portugal

turkey (i found evidence of another turkey reactor leting off on the 1 april 2012 either in the south or the east) as well as the earthquake emmission of the 4 april in Van region

hungary budapest for the last 4 weeks at least again! did it ever stop??

    germany

france (2 reactors and they import wind energy from germany! lol!)

england (three problem reactor at least but suspect more)

a possible in the science university of nuclear stuff in greece but they probaly just had accurate monitoring and picked up someone elses !

finlands monthly gamma was high as was a few others like errr hungary!
but they were dwarfed by frances contribution (lots of digits probaly mainly la hague and catternom and one down south?

    belgium near antwerp

all eurdep monitors have technically stopped there data from the 6 april 2012 but you can stilla ccess the data using a back door and using tooltip for isotope amounts realtime i believe

the switch offs on the data that is actually coming in, even though its not supposed too?, are mainly centred around the south east of europe including turkey.. as you come north or west the data is there!

big co-ordinated cover up going on in the south east.. turkey wants its first reactor and its jolly well going to get it if the military wing of the IAEA has its way!!

    ! :)

    off to render another vid!

    london radiation reading

    12 april 2012

the early morning saw highs of around 0.20 mcSv/h

the winds and rain seemed to lower the average to 0.11 mcSv/h this afternoon..

    winds from north west atlantic/arctic
    noticable drop intemperature

still getting the odd rise to 0.18 mcSv/h but the winds are prone to changing over the next 24 hrs..

winds from dieppe and lahague and hinkley look like they will hug the coast of france heading north easterly to the netherlands and denmark etc

norway got a rise as i predicted and as the winds turned south norway has had a slight drop in its background! this is clean air! bring it on! however it will likely be moving north again :(

still havent pinned the portugal thing either

got so much editing to do! :(

    later!

The US and UK spooks can't even find a cyber crook unless he crashes into the back of their 1980's surveillance van. But they are not the ones to worry about… It's the other spooks from the corporations. Binyam Mohammed would have fared far worse if he had been deemed a threat to those goons. The Mafia are rank amateurs compared to them. They own Big Brother and that's a scary thought.

I'm working on a theory that organised crime own the corp.guv world. they are the silent partners, using 'conservative' people to unwittingly (or extortedly) ply their plans.

Because, I find it difficult to accept that so much crazy stuff is going on and yet TPTB and the general people just accept it. I'm amazed that the overwhelming human nature seems to not care what's going on.

I've written it before, from what I've read and perceived, that it appears the 'yakuza' have hold of jap.corp.guv by the short and curlies. Maybe not the Y as such, but something akin to that. Similar with usa.corp.guv, but maybe it's traditional mafia.

but i also think they combine, into a corrupted world.corp.guv – it's not a geographically isolated group anymore. they are fully global.

People scoff at my thoughts on this one. But if the real power has retreated into the darkness and silence, we only see the puppet theatre at play and think that's the 'front end'. I think we need to think beyond what is presented to us.

I checked the air in the staircase, the air there seems less mixed and unstable than in the apartment (I still maintain this bad (!) habit of appreciating the fresh (?) air), the values are very stable, 0.9-0.11 mcSv/h

it's raining outside, the winds coming from everywhere,
yesterday mainly S and SW, than this night W, changing to SW – N – S – SE, mild, about 10km/h

during my 10 min. walk the outside range of background radiation 0.10 to 0.20mcSv/h, with the most frequent reading situated between 0.14 and 0.18mcSv/h

official readings for my region: 0.11mcSv/h

    Hi all,

Well I’ve finally decided to buy a Geiger counter. Only problem is which one to buy. I know more than the average person about radiation but would be considered a novice by those more experienced (you on this discussion forum). Any advice on this issue or websites to read would be much appreciated. I want to be able to test food and water especially to reduce and or eliminate internal exposure for children.

Fukushima is going to get worse. Especially because it does not appear that a significant effort is being made nationally or internationally to stabilize the facility. After a year of watching and learning I feel as though I am going to be in a race against time to prepare to protect those I love from the next plumes of fallout.

    Hi folks,

I am confused and don`t know what to think about my own geiger measurements. I measure since last october with a gamma scout and a soeks. I always had a feeling that the gamma scout measured too high, but I believed those values because it is the better or more expensive device. At the end of the day it showed the values I expected in this part of the world (Hamburg, Germany) after an accident like fuku.

Now I got three more gamma scouts and had the chance to compare those newer geigers to the old one. The new ones agree more ore less, and the "old" geiger shows 50-100% more most of the time!

Now what to believe? One would think the three new gamma scouts are correct and the old one has to be defective. BUT then the values here would be very pleasant and the official measurements would be right. I tend to doubt that. I mean hey, they tried to stop private measurements, without sucess. What if they now do it smarter and force the manufacturers to build geigers which show friendlier values? Am I nuts? Can somebody confirm that geigers bought after (lets say) autumn of 2011 measure lower then for example those built pre-fuku?

I am confused now. I put a lot of effort in my measurements for 6 months. Now I don`t know what to believe.

      hi hg

you bring up an interesting point… my soeks has similar values to the eurdep luxemborg monitors.. except not quite so erratic most of the time.. i get some low averagers for periods of time…

that said the peaks to 0.29 mcSv/h for beta (pb radioactive etc) maybe.. but it matches that monitor well, basically the range is comparible… most other monitors on the eurdep system only get erratic when there is a too big for the software to cope scenario (about 1 a week at the moment.. your readings in hamburg should be lower generally though by the look of it.. but the soeks is likely giving you the correct range if it is a bit glitchy when the air gets active..

hope i made some sense on how you might be able to compare your readings.. it might be worth a drive to luxemborg for the day to test them all out and compare them with the monitor.. you get the long and lat.. and you could also ring eurdep and ask them where a specific monitor might be?? bnbs got the phone number! ;) lol!

take care hamburg.. let me know if that helps!

Geiger counters put side by side will measure slightly different detections. Radiation doesn't necessarily spray out like a sprinkler evenly in all directions. It can be very directional at times. Even the air passing by each Geiger can have differences in concentrations in radioactivity.

Look at this Gammascout Geiger Counter 24 data chart. Data samples were taken once a minute. See how much variation there can be in radiation levels over a short time span.

      http://sccc.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/24-hour-background-radiation-chart-05032012.jpg

Manufactures use different Geiger tubes, these tubes can very in sensitivity from each other. Even a different batch, or model made by the same manufacturer can very slightly. They can vary in their detection abilities across the the radioactive frequency spectrum!

I would suggest that the newer model made by a well known manufacturer would be more accurate because they have just been tested, and certified.

I am not sure about newly manufactured Japanese models at present. Comments made by posters at enenews recently suggest that they are being alerted in some way at manufacture. Just a rumor who knows? They said that Japanese shops where instructed to only supply Japanese manufactured Geiger models.

It is definitely not a perfect world when it comes to Geiger counters.
At best they will tell you if your background radiation levels are going up or down, some will show this with more sensitivity.

      Report Comment

      • vital1

As a general rule I would suggest using the most sensitive Geiger you have. Some are internally designed to average the results more than others, so you won't see as much variation over a short period of time on the meter screen.

Having a lower background radiation level to start with is an big advantage because you are more likely to pick up changes that others will miss if their background levels are higher.

Get a feel for your Geiger Counter. Knowing what is the average background level you would expect for your area is important. Then you have a baseline from which to work.

Having a good knowledge of local weather patterns is also a part of these understanding background radiation detections. Becoming a meteorologist is an important part of detecting radiation events particularly if you live near nuclear power stations.

Archligh has a good knowledge of his normal background radiation levels for London, plus local weather patterns, so he knows when those clouds released by the European Nuclear plants and Fukushima are passing over London.

I know that all my radioactive cloud detections have occurred when the wind has been coming from the north, or north north east by watching the weather.

You need to build up a knowledge base of weather and background radiation. Watching your Geiger counter meter level go up and down will not provide you with the bigger picture.

The sensitivity of a Geiger tube is mostly a function of size. In the main.
If the tube is small, it will pick up less.
The same applies to detectors with scintillation crystals,
Bigger is better when it comes to detectors.

Which is why most hand held detectors are not very sensitive to all but strong sources.Mostly they have tiny tubes or small scintillation crystals.

But because i am only a new at this like many others, i go back to those like Tom who is a wealth of knowledge and has been around for some time because he loves the subject pre Fukushima.

He has a large collection of helpful well informed videos. For instance…

I picked up some hot particles on a parcel delivery yesterday, with my Geiger counter. A friend picked up a contaminated batch of tea bags a few days ago. If a Geiger counter picks up food contamination, it is generally pretty contaminated.

Last year another friend detected contamination on a newly purchased music CD, and a chocolate bar. You just have to test everything coming into your house.

Nuclear power for Turkey — pleases Russian sales, not the Turkish people
Turkish nuclear power — an unwarranted venture, Hurriyet Daily News, ERHUN KULA, 12 April 12

"..Advocates of nuclear energy argue that we need nuclear energy to meet the growing demand. in Turkey 15-20 percent of the electricity produced is lost in distribution and stolen by the end users. So the most logical step to take is to prevent waste and pilferage. We do not need nuclear power. The Akkuyu unit is likely to cost $20 billion. Obviously some people, including the Russians, will make a lot of money at the expense of Turkish customers. This is why the vested interest is passionately arguing for nuclear power…….

Here is the latest info on my investigation into cost effective and easy to use food testing equipment for radioactive contamination. I have found a few units so far, ranging in price from $1,700 to $18,000.

I am still investigating the cheapest unit here. At $1,700 it is supplied with scintillator and software. It will also give you an indication of individual isotope contamination levels like the more expensive AustralRAD Becquerel Monitor below. To use it you will also need a computer and to build a lead testing chamber. These are an extra cost. You will also need to learn how to use the software to get the best out of it.

Berthold Australia LB 200- Rapid food monitoring $11,000. The Berthold Australia LB 200- Rapid food monitor is probably the easiest to use it just tells you the Becquerel contamination amount on a screen and is supplied with lead shielded testing chamber.

    http://technologypals.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/LB-200-05-2004-81297PR2-Rev02.pdf

The Gammasonics AustralRAD Becquerel Monitor $18,000 The Gammasonics AustralRAD Becquerel Monitor is more sophisticated than the other two models and provides you with an indication of individual isotope contamination levels and is supplied with a lead testing chamber, computer laptop and software.

If the cheaper unit does the job I will post more info on it. I need to do more research into this unit to satisfy myself it will do the job. It will also need a lead testing chamber. A DIY lead testing chamber may cost around $300 in lead just to build it with a good thickness.

All dollar amounts here are in Australian dollars.

If any off you discover another food tester or have any other suggestions for suitable radioactive food testers please let us know.

Lead shield is easy to construct by wrapping copper pipe (Which removes secondary Lead Xrays) with lead plumbers flashing.

I built mine with a three inch wall thickness considered a good standard and the can be easily dismantled if moving it is necesarry. The one i have built weighs around 350Kilos (I forget, but it is something like that.

Here it is when i had not added the xtra lead and increased the size of the solid Lead hemisphere the copper/Lead cylinders sit on.
        https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.168852016557837.33308.100002991180317&type=3

I can not recommend these "out of a shop" solutions and by far the best bang for the buck is to get a full size scintillation detector which is a 3 inch crystal, for around 2000 dollars but 2 inch is totally more than most need and less than 1 inch is what most commercial suppliers use because they are stingy when it comes to generous sized detector crystals and that is just from what i have seen other manufacturers supply.

        Decent sized crystal a must.

I cannot impress upon you how much cheaper and better the DIY system used by many of us at facebook GammaSpectacular is in terms of sensitivity for your dollar. I guess you would have to look into it as i don't like telling people how to spend their money.

The system we use is 'plug and play' enough for me.

I think most of the commercial systems for radioactive detection are a serious rip off.

All Steve does is supply the bias which can be used with almost any kind of detector. He is not making a fortune making these adapters. They are 250$

The software MCA (Multichannel analyser) is free from sydney edu

          http://www.physics.usyd.edu.au/~marek/pra/index.html

Let me further say i think it is bollocks and a waste of money to buy commercial stand alone units. It is far better to invest in high quality detectors. A decent Sodium Iodide (NaI) from a reputable supplier like Ludlum, Scionix, Bicron and then get one of Steve's power supplies to power any of them coupled to a notebook and the free software aforementioned.

To spend big money on anything other than decent detector crystals or pancakes is a waste of money in my view.

For instance, instead of buying some flash looking stand alone mobile phone like detector for 1000 dollars, it is another order of sensitivity and quality to buy the detector sensor like a pancake detector and 250 for the aforementioned bias which works with all the detector sensors under the sun.

It is the detector, and not the box you get it in that counts. What i mostly see is people buying fancy plastic boxes with microscopic detector sensors in them which are pretty dull when used for detecting contamination and weak sources.

Forget the fancy packaging and invest in the best detector .

          here are a few.

Like i say, it is the quality of the detector that "counts".

The software and the hardware to drive the detectors is where the money is saved.

The software and hardware to drive industry quality detectors can cost as little as 250$

        Spectrometising,

I agree these units commercial unites are expensive, and that is why I have been investigating cheaper units. Most people would not be able to afford them.

"All Steve does is supply the bias which can be used with almost any kind of detector."

It is Steve's the unit I am looking at for around for around $1,700 with a scintillator tube. I just needed more info on which scintillator tube would be most cost effective unit to use with his equipment for food testing.

I was going to purchase his unit and try it out before I suggesting it, to make sure it would be suitable. I also wanted to see how easy it would be to use. Not everyone here has technical ability.

I have no commercial interest in any of this I just saw a need to find a cost effective food testing unit for the community because we need it.

I was not aware of these groups you mentioned. I will add these groups to the guide. The guide is a work in progress. I am simply trying to provide people with basic information quickly and easily.

I had already put this into the next draft of the guide.

"Do not just rely on this document, do more research, it is only meant to be a basic guide."

I had already written on post here that if any off you have any other suggestions for suitable radioactive contamination food testing equipment please let us know. So if you have more info you can contribute please do!

          Vital1….ok fair enough.

Thanks for responding. Steven also listed a refurbished 1 inch scintillation crystal with a new PMT (PhotoMultiplier Tube) for 540$

          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180859467658

That was a brilliant deal and gets something far more sensitive than anything in the hand held device league, and allows easy identification of Cs137.

At least this system opens the door and later a person with this system can add any other detector to the system. But it is a good starting point. For instance, from here it is possible to increase the scope of the system by buying a new pancake style detector from any supplier like Ludlum for around 600$ or get an ultra sensitive 3 inch crystal Sodium Iodide detector.

I believe If the 1700$ figure is used, it might be the 2 inch crystal which is huge and amazingly sensitive able to do lightning fast identification. I believe he found a manufacturer of these 2 Inch Sodium Iodide crystal detectors at a better price than Ludlum, and the quality was supposed to be better also.

The point is, that any detector from any manufacturer can be plugged into this neat little 250 dollar bias, leaving the seeker to add the detectors of their own choice later to increase the scope of their system. There is another system which does this and that is from Spectrum Techniques.

These guys supply a bias like Steves and software, but the start-up cost is much higher. Still reasonable in view of…

Greenhouse Gas Emission of European Pressurized Reactor (EPR)
Nuclear Power Plant Technology: A Life Cycle Approach

“…This study applied a process life cycle assessment (LCA) method for studying hidden emissions (mainly GHG emissions) of European Pressurized Reactor (EPR) nuclear power on the basis of Thailand for about the next 10 years and also investigated the energy consumption
as well as waste produce throughout its life cycle. The study is
divided into four sections regarding the life cycle study method….”

On the table that gives amounts of output into the environment the levels of NO2 given out in the waste process come to 354 kg/ton UeO2
This got me thinking about the correlation in NO2 levels in London and emmissions from nuclear power plants!

This link should show a graph of NO2 levels that roughly correspond with the recent pollution warning and levels of contamination gleaned on eurdep and citizen gieger readings..

    http://www.londonair.org.uk/london/asp/basicgraphs.asp?region=0&site=KC3&sitename=Kensington_and_Chelsea__Knightsbridge&period=30_day&graphdate=14/04/2012&species=All&graphtype=Java#

you will notice that the levels bottomed out over the week and then have began to rise as the winds from sizewell have swung around to London…

    • Anne, my theory that large amounts of stuff, including uranium and plutonium was dropped on the land, and that during wind storms, it would re-aerosolize.

Do you think that might be the case here.

Keep in mind uranium is not too radioactive, but is very dangerous as a heavy metal. high click reading due to uranium would be a big concern.

      hi alasanon

italy has got some issues with nedical science reactors but havent pinned it down cos they switch off!! the air quality is a bigger problem than bioaccummulation unless you live in budapest and maybe some parts of turkey and a few other hot spots… if you are unsure just minimise your intake and counter with a good fibre diet and loads of apple juice etc dont know if it helps but it should keep your motions regular and thats supposed to be a good thing?? :)

unfortunately i have to report a possible demise of the eurdep mapping system .. it is only working behind a password protected server.. at least the nuke workers will know how to peotect their families.. i hope they make use of it!! i know the ptb will be using it! :( are using it!
to protect their families and financial interests!

we need people to start posting gieger data on the web.. to replace this information source.. or wait for a whistleblower! most sad!

and not a squeak from anti nuke europe… i tried to contact the uk mob but it seems to be outside everyones remit!! ??

so eurdep goes with a whimper! i think all the other monitors around the world had more response..!! and to cap it all criirad seems to be not showing the pdfs anymore and have only posted some work they are doing in uranium mining !? no mention of turkey and the word earthquake! thought greenpeace would be right on that one!!

london radiation alert 17 april 2012

at about 21.00 hrs gmt i noticed an increas in the average.. at ten oclock i got my first rise to 0.20 mcSv/h.. driving past buckingham palace 0.20 mcSv/h :(

i drove around london and got a consistant rise to 0.18 and 0.20 mcSv/h.. when i got home i noticed the 0.20 mcSv/h staying and i got the camera out and videoed the results.. the video was alittle bit long so i cut the end a little bit to match the music otherwise its untouched..

    o.50 mcSv/h!!

either they pulled the top of penly or its waste reprocessing in la hague! maybe the nNO2 increase points to that? i videoed the graph for you to decide and heres the link that connects N02 and waste processing if your feeling nerdie! :)

Inspectors stay on at EdF’s Penly nuclear site
    10 Apr

Perpignan, 10 April (Argus) — French state-controlled utility EdF says its inspection team at the 2.6GW Penly nuclear facility is at the early stages of an investigation into the failure of a cooling system that caused the shut-down of one of its reactors. But the incident at the site has been graded at the lowest level by EdF, with the company saying there was no escape of any radioactive materials.

    http://www.argusmedia.com/pages/NewsBody.aspx?id=793140&menu=yes
The company's inspection team today began to photograph and look for damage at reactor No 2 at Penly, close to Dieppe in northwestern France. EdF said the unit will remain in cold shut-down for up to another seven days. EdF said the incident will be graded a level one type, the lowest possible, the highest being a type seven event. Tests will also be carried out today on surrounding grass and farmlands to check for any radioactive contamination, with the sample results likely by the end of the week.

the highest reading 0.16mcSv/h, seen only once.
    no peaks.

woow, what a day, is it my birthday? lol

since sunday 8h the winds are almost exclusively from NE, very few E.
the readings are not so high as the last week, but are still high compared to the historical 0.09mcSv/h and today's official 0.11mcSv/h.
is there no more clean air left?

5 times over background, Anne? That's pretty disturbing. Do you find this corresponds with the Jet Stream overhead, the wind direction, precipitation or? Or is it due to the high elevation, solar flares or? Does the reading decay away quickly, which would point to radon decay? Just curious to hear what you believe are the causes.

      Report Comment

      • anne anne

WATKids, There are a number of causes. The background radiation talked about is not the level at other communities, but the much higher background radiation for Longmont which already includes the radon.

        http://www.exstrom.com/bcrad1.html

They may be venting radiation from Fort St Vrain nuclear power plant to the NE which was decommissioned just one year after its startup because of malfunction. This nuclear power plant is still storing the live fuel which was only in use one year. It is AIR COOLED. The readings seem to correlated to the evening and night hours

        SIDS play some role:
"Hi! Thanks for stopping by. Yeah we do have a fair bit here because of the altitude, uranium, radon, and Rocky Flats… for starters. :-) What's really interesting is that I also have a SIDS system (solar storm) running and you can see many of the radiation peaks coincide with spikes on SIDS. Until I started running these together I never realised just how much solar radiation plays a part at altitude."
        https://pachube.com/feeds/30643

I read somewhere that HAARP also at times works to enhance SIDS events. (Sudden Ionospheric Disturbances)

Also one part of the HAIL network for HAARP is in Boulder. So we are zapped every time there is weather manipulation to the east of Boulder between Boulder and the east coast, and this channels additional radiation from the jet stream and Fukushima to Boulder and Longmont.

The wind carries radiation as well as the rain and snow, and there are elevated readings during these events.

These things simply CANNOT be healthy for living things! Who is calling the shots here? Are the various agencies, military branches, nuclear power plant operators, weather manipulators, radar broadcasters, etc, etc, coordinating their efforts or even communicating with each other?

Where are the health impact studies on these things? Isn't anyone concerned about causing epidemic-sized health issues in people, animals and plants by all this bombardment of radiation, ionizing and non-ionizing alike, as well as the added barium, aluminum and silver oxide we are forced to breathe thanks to the ongoing practice of chemtrail spraying? (For those new here, Google "chemtrail" or view the thousands of videos on YouTube about this mysterious practice of spraying our skies which no official agencies will talk about.)

This is getting more ridiculous by the minute…I really feel like we've stepped into the Twilight Zone…Somebody, wake me up from this baaaad dream already! Sheeesh!

              Yes, WATK's,..Twilight Zone it is!
I'll post this on anomalies thread also,…just got off the tele with my best friend, (one of my son's old buddies whom I helped raise-26). I asked him about the 9 vials of blood his Dr. drew from him last month,…and I knew in advance,…but WTF. These were his words,…"I have bad T-3 and T-4 numbers,…something about my thyroid. And I have too many of one kind of blood cell, and not enough of the other. I have no testosterone, and my cholesterol is way off, whatever ALL that means".
I am going over there tomorrow to have a look at the blood work reports and try to talk to him.

I asked him if his hair is falling out, and he got deadly quiet. He said, "Yes, as a matter of fact,…especially in the shower when I wash it. My drain has never had this much hair in it in four years I've lived here". So it begins!

I am numb. I truly have no feelings right now–like I've been stripped! I know the DAY/NIGHTMARE we are entering,…as do most here. We could write the bloody script! But, not the ending! I'll see Gary again no matter what happens. His sister Cara is waiting with my Ashley,…..so we'll all be fine.

Oh my dear, StillJill. My heart is so saddened to hear this latest news about your friend, :-( He is just 26 and is experiencing these things? How can this be?

You say you helped raise him, and that both his sister and your daughter have passed on. Did they have similar illnesses?

I'm wondering, with all these health issues your family and close friend have been experiencing, if you and your family hadn't been exposed to radiation many years ago, when your children were still young?

I remember you mentioning your ex-husband had worked on a nuclear submarine. Could he have been exposed and somehow brought radiaton home where you and your children became affected by it?

Or did you live at any point near a nuclear reactor? Where were you living while raising your children?

Just trying to understand how so many illnesses could affect one family. Exposure to Fuku radiation fallout since 3/11 certainly doesn't help, but if your young friend had already been exposed to radiation prior to Fuku, then any additional radiation exposure from Fuku could be that additional "dose" that is the tipping point for his immune system.

Just speculating, but seems that such a young person (outside of Japan) would not be one to already show signs of radiation exposure so early on in this Fuku disaster…

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts…

Sending BIG {{{hugs}}} and keeping you and your friend in my thoughts and prayers. xoxo

              A few final (rhetorical) questions:

Who gives these people the right to play God???

Who do they think they are???

By engaging in these activities, are they helping us or hurting us and living things on our planet? Do they even know? Is anyone in charge asking these questions?

And lastly, do they even CARE???

Second hot postage item detection in a couple weeks. This time it was an International posted item. It was sent from Ontario Canada and routed through Los Angeles.

The box and the contents where clear but the postage paper documentation from the postal service had hot spots on it.

As per my previous freight parcel detection seems to be imbedded in the paper. These detections where not large around 2x my background.

So check the paper coming into your house!

Warning: Porcelain water storage vessels/dispensers from China may be highly radioactive. This is the type that holds about 2 1/2 gallons.

These water containers should not be on the market! This is on the order of selling tissue boxes full of Cobalt 60 at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, IMHO!

I just made the highly unpleasant discovery the porcelain water dispensers for bottled water I have are highly radioactive.

Gamma and Beta measurements are very high. Beta measured an average of .225 mSv/hr

It might even be higher than that; I quit testing after about two minutes.

This goes back to the distributor TODAY. Am taking my Geiger Counter (Inspector Extreme) with me today so I can show the distributor the measurements vs. background. He's a really nice and ethical man, who is deeply concerned about water purity. He's invested in his work, and I think he's likely to be very unhappy about this. I am! I've been drinking highly purified water for over a year, only to have it stored in radioactive vessels.

The other possibility is there's a lot of radiation in the water, and the vessel is absorbing it.

Will have to see how the vessels check out compared to new ones he has there, if they're from the same manufacturer.

Posting to Monitoring and Radiation Protection forums. If anyone knows of legal action that can be taken, or government enforcement measures that can be taken, please post here to let me know.

Greetings, Net! Need to re-establish Hushmail account. If you don't use it, you lose it! Will post it ASAP. Whoopie has e-mail addr & OK to ask her for my personal e-mail if you can find hers.

Since rain stopped — beta is averaging about .045 to .065 mSv/hr. That's ~ 4-5 times lower than when it rains. Need to determine how daughters effect these readings. When jet stream overhead it pushes readings up to 2-3 times "normal" background even when it's not raining. "Normal" because nothing's normal post-Fukushima!

Today I got derailed because I discovered the water dispenser (porcelain) I purchased (actually 2 of them) are "hot" and measure about 5 times normal background radiation.

Now I need to do follow up with the fellow I purchased one of them from. He has many years of engineering background & is interested in how the high readings are showing up in his products. He's concerned.

Today I gave him a quick run-down of linear no dose threshold and internal emitters, the DoE model (health physics model) of radiation exposure, and tried to explain why I thought the EPA and other US federal govt. agencies are not monitoring radiation in food and products imported into the US. Had to put it in that context to make it understandable to a nuclear "layman."

Anyway I've been REALLY BUSY. Need to learn my Inspector Extreme manual inside out and know how to have an intelligent conversation with an engineer, i.e., answer questions like what are pCl…

Net, I can't post on food because I have an Inspector Extreme (w/o the pancake probe) and it isn't sensitive enough to get readings from food. Water and air, yes, and can measure near surface of bodies of water, and soils.

Have had to deal with some personal life issues lately, so I haven't been on top of posting local readings. My apologies!

Also "editorializing" on the state of SPF #4 and so forth, so I've gone a bit far afield from taking local readings, lately.

Would like to find out if there's a local lab that can do reliable testing of foodstuffs ….

I wish you well on everything going on in your life. Take care!

All the other porcelain vessels tested at the sales facility tested very high in beta levels. So it appears the porcelain is very "hot" at 4-5 times normal background levels. These things are being imported from China by multiple manufacturers.

This begs the question: are the sources of clay, glazes, etc., just naturally high in radiation? Or are contaminated materials being used?

Is this problem just limited to water vessels? Are they from a certain region, or is this a problem common to all Chinese porcelains?

    Australia
    Queensland
    Caloundra
    22nd April 2012

Radioactive cloud detections on the 20th and 21st of April, see daily charts links below.

So far. all our radioactive cloud detections have occurred when the wind has come from the northern tropics. From my observations of the weather radar at the time, on the 20th and 21st, two air masses, a northerly and southerly, meet just north of Caloundra. The Geiger Counter alarm sounded on numerous occasions, indicating radiation levels went above .50 uSv/hr multiple times. These above .50 uSv/hr events where brief and were not recorded by the Geiger Counter data logger. My theory is that when the northerly pressure system pushed a little bit south, we got the radiation detections. When the northerly air mass was pushed north background went back to normal. The radioactive cloud detections are a result of the huge amounts of radiation released by the still active Fukushima Nuclear disaster, breaching the Northern and Southern hemisphere air circulation barrier.

Dam it! Everything was looking good, our background had gone down to near normal. It is such a dramatic contrast on the chart view because our background levels where low when the detections occurred.

Anne would be looking at this and saying that is nothing compared to what I am getting.

Anne, you really should make plans to relocate if you can.

and getting close to my favourite place in the world, byron. (i mean, caloundra is nice and all, and that's bad news for queensland etc). but byron .. no way!

i check my meter here in sydney daily. i was showing it to a work mate and the usual questions etc.

i thought, but didn't tell him, that it's really my 'give up on the day job' meter. once a certain threshold has been passed, regularly, then there is little point to continuing with the usual routines.

the question for me is what is that threshold. 0.50 is about what i thought i'd have to start running from. Anne has problems. If we hit 0.50 on a daily basis, we all have problems.

Also, Oz has it's own inherit rads sources, without the fuku/pacific effect. Places like Maralinga probably keep blowing things around the continent, so what's really needed is to find the signature of the source of tha rads.

"so what's really needed is to find the signature of the source of those rads"

Tried to find out after I first detected these Radioactive clouds passing over Australia by contacting the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency. Sent them all my data, charts, and info about other detections in the Southern Hemisphere.

Took them a a while, and then they replied with the typical Nuclear industry propaganda.

            1. Couldn't be Fukushim, it is in cloud shutdown.

            2. Probably caused by a solar flare or weather event.

            3. Australia has four detection stations and none of these stations have detected anything except for a very, very, very small amount in Darwin just after 3/11.

It was a useless exercise except that I can now say that I did contacted them.

This will probably continue till the end of May. My guess is that the connection between the northern and southern hemisphere will shut off after that till late November, when it will spike even higher. This is mostly air, when the contaminated water gets down there, it will be an all year thing.
