Pests Are Developing Resistance To Monsanto's GM Supercorn
"Some consumers may have a problem with genetically modified food crops, but in at least one case described in an Iowa State University researcher’s paper there’s one customer that’s happy to consume Monsanto’s GM corn: rootworms, the very pest the corn is modified to thwart.
According to the paper, western corn rootworms in at least four northeast Iowa corn fields have developed a resistance to the natural pesticide in corn seed produced by Monsanto, marking the first time a major Midwest pest has developed a resistance to GM crops.
That could spell all kinds of trouble for food crops, farmers, Monsanto, and pretty much everyone who isn’t a western corn rootworm. Though based on isolated cases thus far, the problem could be more widespread, and the paper is bound to rouse another debate on the benefits and demerits of GM crop cultivation and current farm management practices. Defense Department Seeks Legal Authority to Deploy Reservists onto American Streets
“Thanks to Posse Comitatis, the US military are forbidden from responding on the streets of America whenever the whim is announced.
“The Posse Comitatus Act, Section 1385, states that only under “circumstances expressly authorized by the Constitution or Act of Congress” can the military presence on American streets is allowed.
“Yet, if the Defense Department has their way, a new authorization act will give them the power to order the armed forces to be used against the American public.
“Air Force reservists are slated to be the new response team for domestic disturbances. Disseminated from Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC) and other reserve agencies, these men and women could be called to be first response to natural disasters within the US. The legislation would extend mobilizations for indeterminate periods of time….”

I've been able to make quite a few comments today. In case you're wondering, I am supposed to be at work, but it's quiet. So I pretty much get to spend eight hours of the day watching the blogs and enenews.
It's curious that this time has been given to me. Usually I am so flat strap that I cannot get time for anything. Now suddenly, I seem to have all the time in the world.
No complaints here.. just wanted to make a note of it. I don't always get this much time making blog entries, so I hope I'm not boring anyone.

Coke And Pepsi Being Used As A Pesticide
The practice of using soft drinks in lieu of pesticides, which are 10 times more expensive, is gaining so much popularity that sales of the drinks have increased drastically in remote villages.
Farmers say the use of pesticides costs them 70 rupees ($1.50) an acre.
By comparison, if they mix a bottle of Pepsi or Coke with water and spray it on the crop it costs 55-60 rupees less per acre.
Anupam Verma, Pepsi sales manager in Chhattisgarh, says sales figures in rural areas of the state have increased by 20%.
But he adds: "If there was any truth in these claims then we would rather be selling our product as a pesticide rather than soft drinks.

The evidence has not changed—the only change is that now a few more people are willing to tell the truth. Why the delay? Annually, there is $20 billion at stake for screening alone and hundreds of billions more for the tests and treatments that follow. The ivory towers of your town’s cancer centers have been built from the blood of men and women subjected to harmful screening programs." http://www.drmcdougall.com/misc/2009nl/oct/acs.ht

Nobel laureate, Dr. John Gofman, believed that 50% of cancer was caused by unnecessary radiation primarily related to diagnostic xray studies. Large population studies in Denmark and Canada have revealed that the death rates from breast cancer in women taking regular mammograms and women who have never had mammograms are identical. This probably can be explained by the observation that when a mammogram is positive for a breast cancer the tumor has been present for up to 8 or 10 years. This long delay before a tumor becomes visible in a mammogram allows ample time for the cancer to have spread by lymphatic and vascular channels.

North Carolina Tries To Wish Away Sea-level Rise
"The sea level along the coast of North Carolina is expected to rise about a meter by the end of the century. But business interests in the state are worried that grim projections that account for climate-induced sea level rise will make it harder for them to develop along the coast line. So policymakers in the state plan to deal with that issue by writing a law requiring inaccurate projections. No joke, here's what the measure says:
These rates shall only be determined using historical data, and these data shall be limited to the time period following the year 1900. Rates of seas-level rise may be extrapolated linearly …
Scientific American's Scott Huler, a North Carolina resident, has an epic rant about this that can't be outdone:
It goes on, but there's the core: (…)
This is like saying, do not predict tomorrow's weather based on radar images of a hurricane swirling offshore, moving west towards us with 60-mph winds and ten inches of rain. Predict the weather based on the last two weeks of fair weather with gentle breezes towards the east. Don't use radar and barometers; use the Farmer's Almanac and what grandpa remembers.
(…) If it passes, the state would continue to develop along the coastline without paying any attention to where the sea will be in 50 or 90 years.
Willful ignorance, thy name is North Carolina.

We were talking-about the space between us all
And the people-who hide themselves behind a wall of illusion
Never glimpse the truth-then it's far too late-when they pass away.
We were talking-about the love we all could share-when we find it
To try our best to hold it there-with our love
With our love-we could save the world-if they only knew.
Try to realize it's all within yourself
No-one else can make you change
And to see you're really only very small,
And life flows within you and without you.
We were talking-about the love that's gone so cold and the people,
Who gain the world and lose their soul-
They don't know-they can't see-are you one of them?
When you've seen beyond yourself-then you may find, peace of mind,
Is waiting there-
And the time will come when you see
we're all one, and life flows on within you and without you.

Why You Can Thank Dan Quayle for Twenty Years of Policy That Keeps Americans in the Dark About Their Food
"More than a million people have asked the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for mandatory labeling of genetically engineered food on a legal petition in March and on May 2nd, nearly a million voter signatures were submitted in California to place a GMO labeling initiative on ballot in November. Clearly, Americans believe strongly in their right to know what's in their food. Ninety percent of US voters want this type of labeling. Yet we still don't have it. Why?
Twenty years ago this week, then-Vice President Dan Quayle announced the FDA's policy on genetically engineered food as part of his "regulatory relief initiative." The policy (…) was based on the idea that genetic engineering is no different than traditional plant breeding, and therefore required no new regulations.
Five years earlier, then-Vice President George H.W. Bush visited a Monsanto lab for a photo op with the developers of Roundup Ready crops. According to a video report of the meeting, when Monsanto executives worried about the approval process for their new crops, Bush laughed and told them, "Call me. We're in the dereg businesses. Maybe we can help."
(..)
As Quayle explained in the 1992 press conference, the American biotech industry would reap huge profits "as long as we resist the spread of unnecessary regulations."

Poland beekeepers kick Monsanto out of the hive, successfully ban bee-killing GM corn
"The decree is in the works. It introduces a complete ban on the MON810 strain of maize in Poland," said Polish Agriculture Minister Marek Sawicki, who also explained to the press that pollen from MON810 appears to be responsible for further devastating the already dwindling bee population throughout the country and elsewhere.
According to reports, Poland's decision to ban MON810 makes it the first nation to formally acknowledge that Monsanto's GM corn is definitively linked to CCD. It also affirms the findings of several earlier studies that have identified a link between Bt GM crops and bee deaths, including independent research conducted by Pennsylvania beekeeper John McDonald.
McDonald's research found that bees foraging near Bt crops did not gain the proper amount of weight, and failed to produce honey in their honey supers (honey storage bins) when they should have. Their non-Bt crop counterparts, on the other hand, produced more than double the amount of honey they needed to survive the winter (http://www.naturalnews.com/025287.html).
Back in early March, nine European countries — Belgium, Great Britain, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Ireland, and Slovakia — successfully blocked an effort by the Danish EU presidency to allow expanded cultivation of GM crops in Europe. And around that same time, France imposed its own ban on MON810.

The Truth about Carbon Capture Storage(CCS)…questions need to asked in every country contemplating CCS.
The first hard truth is that the Alberta Government has written a check for $2 billion to cover a $2 billion/year promise. The Alberta Carbon Capture and Storage Development Council stated that the projects funded through the $2 billion CCS fund will be “insufficient to ensure that the province reaches its longer-term 2020 and 2050 GHG reduction goals.” In fact, the Council concluded that “an investment of between $1 to $3 billion per year from the governments of Alberta and Canada will be required to promote further CCS projects,” and that, “industry will likewise need to shoulder significant additional investment,” in order for for Alberta to meet its near-term goal of 25-30 Mt of CCS by 2020.
There are also additional hidden expenditures already on the table such as royalty relief programs for Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) which effectively use oil in the ground to pay for CCS over and above the $2 billion CCS fund.
Report Comment
TAXPAYER…(not government funding) funding is required to close the gap (shown above) between the costs of capturing and transporting the CO2 and the net cost or revenue from storing the CO2 in geologic formations. This cost gap depends on several factors. First, the largest cost is capturing the CO2 itself, and this cost is highly variable. Second, the small but scale-dependent costs of compression and transportation need to be covered, and in many cases, this will imply paying up-front for new infrastructure. Finally, the injection of the CO2 may produce added revenues, through EOR or further costs in the case of geologic sequestration. The after-tax net costs of capture, transportation, and injection must be compensated for by payments from government and/or avoided carbon emissions charges in order for businesses to make the required investment. The estimate of the funding gap of $50/ton above, multiplied that by 20Mt/yr, leave a $1 billion/yr gap, and that’s assuming $40-60/ton of EOR revenue and a $50/ton carbon price. Current policies in Alberta likely put that cost gap at closer to $100/ton, hence my estimate of a $2 billion/yr promise.
Report Comment
The second hard truth is that the costs of new CCS projects are unlikely to decrease over time. Technology will improve over time, but it is crucial to understand the context in which this learning will occur. In new, purpose-built facilities like NorthWest Upgrading, the cost of capture may be quite low while the cost of capturing CO2 through retrofitting existing power plants or other facilities may be 3-4 times greater.
The third hard truth I see is in the lack of an exit strategy for government. Looking back at the cost gap figure above, the potential revenue generated by EOR is only about $50-60/ton, and that is in the best plays under the assumption of high oil prices. As we extract more and more oil from EOR plays, and at the same time are trying to increase quantities stored, we are going to have to move to more expensive capture opportunities and toward pure storage plays, which both increases capture costs and turns EOR revenues into a storage cost (you are not going to make money injecting CO2 into saline aquifers unless you are being paid to do so).
Report Comment
The fourth hard truth is that having a CCS-oriented policy limits companies’ options for GHG reductions, and it is likely to lead to much more expensive emissions reductions or fewer reductions per dollar spent in the long term. When the Climate Change Strategy was announced, gas prices were high and getting higher, with forecasts of over $17/GJ by 2050 being used in leading climate models. Since then, of course, gas prices have fallen and are predicted to remain at less than half that price for the medium term. This means that the portfolio of abatement opportunities available has shifted considerably, and so the push to CCS may not be the right path in all cases. For example, the EIA now estimates that the levelized cost of electricity generation through coal with CCS to be $136/MWh by 2016, while gas generation is expected to cost $63.

Hi anne. Usually I don't touch Haarp, even with a ten foot pole. I found this studying the DEMETER Satellite. Do you have any input?

I've worked with integrated circuits, sub micro servos, synchros, gyros, pneumatic, hydraulic, 2D, 3D search, track radar systems for 20 years. The parabolic dish and antennae I described months ago and its inability to direct energy world wide is what kept me from following the Haarp. I see now it integrates satellite technologies in the system I am following up with. Amazing.

Going to Advanced Auto today to get paint for my truck grill I passed a stranger on the step of the store. He was older, short, dirty, and looked weathered, obviously homeless. I avoided eye contact, and body communication while walking into the store. He spoke up to ask me about my truck. Not threatened I answered his few questions.
A few short hours later I handed him 70 bucks for fixing my suspension, steering problem, he was an unemployed mechanic.
During our small talk I tested his intellect. No problems found I talked of Japan of course.
Not surprised he had no idea, but during the conversation he stated the stench of death lately in the roads he follows, and the uncommon beach deaths and fish deaths hes noticed this year along the beach and on the streets. He talked of birds dying all over, and what he has seen. He said hes seen bird carcasses all over.
I showed him my pictures of the vegetation. He told me of the vegetables and fruit in the stores garbage, Mutated Strawberries, potatoes, carrots. He is a 30 year mechanic, Tim is his name.
My surprise was of his talk of the increase in deaths around him, and his unusual observations of different fish deaths at the waterfront. He told me the stores don't throw out good food like that, garbage diving.
I humbly felt he was more prepared than myself.

It got him and his family another night at a motel at the waterfront. He really did school me with the bird deaths, and fish beached here. I was shocked. Hes a good egg.

Morning mungo – I don't know if she left at her own will or if Admin banned her after that "religious meltdown" with subsequent offenses in all directions which occured some weeks ago.
I'm still sorry that happened, especially as I know how important this community was to her in her compromised health ("liferaft" she called it). I think she's emailing with several enenewsers.
Hey Jill, if you're around: I hope you're doing fine, even though you hate me, just because I don't think there are dinosaurs in the bible.
