Hi as a newbie on the forum i thought I'd better say Hello. My name is lysco chimney Great forum lost hours since joining up by looking through various threads. I'm from the islands Philippines, background was building trade with a bit of sub contracting to civil engineering for 5 years or so then to NHS for the last 10+ years. Also worked a fair bit with agricultural bits and bobs so i'm lucky in the respect that I've sampled a variety of Machinery both industrial and agriculturaly. NOT an expert in any LOL. Right, Im away exploring more threads. Thanks for your time.

I take part in some meetings, lectures, actions of our local Agenda 21 group. So far, I couldn't see anything wrong with it. They rent one local cinema once a month, last film was about Depleted Uranium ammunition and its lovely effects on civilians in Iraq.

The effects of DU are indeed shocking. That film was about a professor who visited Iraqi hospitals. he saw children in the village playing with empty projectiles (they painted them faces as small puppets)…The professor took one of those with him to have it tested back home in Berlin at an university lab. 2 universities refused the test.
The 3rd accepted, but said it was already late on Friday, he should come back on Monday. He left the projectile at the lab.
When he came back on Monday, 8 armed policemen & a team in rad protection gear awaited him. He was charged with illegal transport of radioactive material…..
Can't your cousin get independent examination to find out what's wrong with him? I wish him well….

The mega-drought is a huge threat to Americans in the southwest. I wrote about this over ten years ago and used similar research from the tree ring dating of beams in Pueblo ruins. Those dendrochronology results shed new light on the disappearance of large groups of ancient native Americans. In the 1300s tree ring data in the Pueblo areas indicate decades long droughts, some nearly thirty years in length in an area that had little rainfall even in average years.
Today we see the same mega drought evidence from about the mid 1980s and tree rings aren't needed to confirm the low rainfall amounts in lieu of recorded data. The mega droughts threaten farming and even habitation of towns as lakes dry up and water supplies vanish. There is no easy solution and land without water is virtually useless. But the land lost to habitation may be useful for solar or wind farms if transmission lines can be built to these facilities.

Hi Heart. I turned away from msm in disgust quite a while ago, but as with car crashes I still watch with horror and fascination from time to time… sometimes with amusement. My best Gloria Borger parody goes something like "Breaking News: On the one hand some of my Democrat contacts think the Republicans are wrong but on the other hand some of my Republican contacts think the Democrats are wrong."
I wonder where big oil/coal/gas will put their advertising dollars if they take it out of CNN. Their advertising presence on CNN has been overwhelming for the last year or so.
I can't say I'll miss any of the "old media" as they dry up and disappear. They have made themselves irrelevant. I really am wary about what their backers will do in response though – swarming the Net seems inevitable, for one thing.

A few weeks ago I wrote a piece (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/elliott-negin/alec-climate-change_b_1439267.html?view=print&comm_ref=false) revealing that a number of major U.S. corporations that publicly acknowledge the threat of global warming are members of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), a stealthy lobby group that ghostwrites legislation to scuttle climate change initiatives.
A new report analyzing more than two dozen Standard & Poor 500 companies found that despite their public pronouncements about the reality of global warming, three-quarters of them at least indirectly hindered climate change mitigation efforts through lobbying, campaign contributions, agency comments, or their affiliations with trade associations and advocacy groups.
This corporate disconnect on climate goes way beyond ALEC.

The report, "A Climate of Corporate Control," focused on 28 companies that made formal comments on the Environmental Protection Agency's finding that carbon emissions endanger public health and contributed to campaigns for or against Proposition 23, a 2010 California ballot initiative that would have undermined the state's landmark law combating climate change. Ten of the companies, including ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, General Electric, Marathon Oil and Peabody Energy, are ALEC members.
"What we found most surprising is all of the companies expressed concern about climate change," said Francesca Grifo, director of the Union of Concerned Scientists' (UCS) Scientific Integrity Program, which issued the report on Wednesday. "But when we took a deeper look, we found that a lot of the actions they took outside the public eye were inconsistent with their PR message."
ConocoPhillips is one of the companies that plays both sides of the fence.
The oil giant's campaign contribution track record, however, is a lot less ambiguous. Of the $742,951 it spent between 2002 and 2010, it contributed $697,551 to candidates who were against taking action on climate change and only $45,400 to candidates who promised to address it.

General Electric, which touts climate change as one of its three pillars of corporate citizenship, also works the issue both ways, likely because it makes equipment for wind and solar power as well as the oil and gas industry. The company is a member of at least eight organizations and trade groups that support climate change initiatives, including the American Wind Energy Association, Global Roundtable on Climate Change, Solar Energy Industries Association and U.S. Climate Action Partnership. But it also supports groups that misrepresent climate science, including ALEC, the American Petroleum Institute, Business Roundtable, National Association of Manufacturers and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Yes, good find MaidenHeaven. Most modern corporations diversify like that. It's great for the survival of the corporation, not so good for the planet. The law of unintended consequences in action, I think, rather than evil plotting of some kind (I know you didn't suggest the latter, but many people do).
There's an old saying about doing business in a small town that can support two restaurants. Own both of them, then when people get into hot debate about whether to have Chinese food or pizza you win either way.
Who would have thought that simple business principle would scale up and destroy the planet, but that seems to be what we face.

This alarms me, the increase in EQ activity is associated with the CME, what I have seen is 3 to 5 days after a large CME a dramatic increase in EQ activity.
Like said,
CME = initial possible EQ
Then EQs following 3 to 7 hours after CME,
and increase in EQ activity 3 to 5 days after CME.
The increase in activity now (1 day after event) indicates to me a possible large EQ event withing the next 4 days.
So goes EQ predictions. I hope I'm wrong.

Hi SP. My family has avoided farmed fish for many years, based on (pre-Fukushima) advice such as:
"… farm raised salmon… provides less usable omega-3s and contains far more pesticides and antiobiotics. Stick with wild caught salmon, and you'll gain all the benefits of this heart-healthy fish without all the chemicals."

It is getting harder to know what to do. For the moment, I'm still eating wild salmon caught in Alaska. I posted that a few months ago and "hbjon" posted it was proof that I was a shill. He didn't say who/what he thought I was shilling for. I also mentioned that I was testing what I ate with a geiger counter, so perhaps he thought I was shilling for the GC industry – especially because it turns out that quick food tests with a GC won't reveal low-level radiation (which I didn't know at the time).
There has been some anecdotal chatter among members of the radiation network lately to the effect that they are not yet seeing radiation in the Alaskan fish they have sampled. Definitely not scientific proof of anything, but mildly reassuring. My own take is that the radiation (and risk) in Pacific salmon will slowly climb for many years yet.
Anyway, you can't win. Whatever you do, somebody won't like it. Wild salmon for me for lunch today. Wish me luck.

I just had someone wanting me to vote for a certain Democratic candidate in the primary for Boulder County Commissioner. It used to be that you could count on the Democratic candidate to be a strong advocate for the environment. The best he could say was that his candidate would listen to me if elected.
He said that the cities couldn't stop fracking because the oil and gas companies have exploration rights. The county can't do anything about pesticides sprayed on the citizens. The county can't do anything about radiation venting from decommissioned Fort Saint Vrain nuclear power plant. Can't do anything about uranium mining near the city of Fort Collins. Can't take a stand on GMO crops in the county. I didn't hear even one issue that his candidate was taking a stand on. Just that she has a daughter and knows about the schools.
Sorry, but the Boulder County Commissioners have nothing to do with the schools. But, in case they don't know, they could take stands to protect the environment of the children.
I didn't even hear a stand against building a road through Rocky Flats and stirring up all the plutonium.
Both Republican and Democratic candidates are nothing but robots of the fossil fuel and nuclear industries.

The reason I also included the hawaiian news. Is that the sardines (which could be a product of radiation poisoning)… Could also be a natural / dieoff from methane rising in the sea floor…

Not surprisingly by this stage but it seems that no authority is going to police contaminated food in Japan. Even if mothers wanted to feed her family with safe food, some farmers and shops print out false labels to fake where the food is produced. So what is the solution? Is Name and Shame the only way?
In a long run, they could set up a system to enforce shops to display contamination level but I think that's going to take time.

~I have spoken of this to some people that thought I was crazy…a few friends agreed with me.
With the sharp increase in cancers & other health related issues as a result of radiation & the positioning of our food & air by Corporations I knew they would begin to find a way to convince the public to do *Mercy killings etc, in order to save money. As long as they can convince citizens to to this themselves they avoid any responsibility or charges brought against hospitals, insurance companies, Doctors etc. etc.

The CSPI report names Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Dr. Pepper Snapple Group Inc.'s Dr. Pepper, and Whole Foods' 365 Cola as having unsafe levels of 4-MI that will have to be reformulated. The U.S. Senate and six separate states have launched inquiries into the practices of dental management firms, alleging that many such firms have cheated Medicaid by performing unnecessary and invasive procedures on poor children.
The four-year-old came home from school one day having received 10 X-rays, two steel crowns and two pulpotomies ("baby root canals"), all without parental consent. His mother, Stacy Gagnon said she had been informed that a dentist from ReachOut would be visiting his school, but had been told her son would only receive a cleaning.
Instead her son, who suffers from seizures, was forcibly held down, without sedation, while dentists performed invasive procedures that an independent dentist later concluded were unnecessary, down to the "excessive" number of X-rays.
Preliminary investigations suggest that inappropriate behavior by dental management firms is widespread. A Texas audit of dental procedures found that 90 percent of Medicaid claims for orthodontic braces were medically unnecessary. As a result, Texas cut off payment to many of the clinics managed by All Smiles Dental Center Inc. (owned by Valor Equity Partners), leading the company to declare bankruptcy.
Auditor and orthodontist Christine Ellis said that the "flagrancy of the fraud … is truly unbelievable."
