You should mention it was a satirical interview. If you didn't know then I understand but . . .
what if it was real, filmed and presented under the guise of satire so people wouldn't react, but it was real?
Now there's something to think about.

Questions
1..Fukushima how long before we notice the effects from these on going layers of radiation that come in through the jet stream?
The debris that is coming, what are their plans? How can this all be cleaned up? This disaster has too many questions.
2..Sinkhole – In the worst scenario, how many States can this effect? Are the people being helped to get out of the area?
3..Area's that Sandy struck – How are the people, do they have water, food, shelter, clothing, and so on? Is their any noticeable change in their infrastructure?
4..The Gulf – Are they checking for sea floor cracks and other sites that are leaking oil? Is there anyway to clean up what BP has caused, with what they have done to the gulf with their drilling, tar, corexit, synthia, and who knows what else?
5..Is there anything we can do about, the oceans, air, water, food, the environment? Has anyone learned that we cannot abuse the things we need to live?
I know there are more questions than I have asked. There are also other problems around the world.

Hi Heart
Citizens globbally should stock on seeds like hemp for ropes and clothing and what all else that plant can deliver, and seeds for food and small livestock like chicken. Might become also a trading value. If the world becomes partially un-inhabitable in the shape of islands , you better have seeds.
Report Comment
DID re saving seed – IMO, also good idea to take time to identify all common weeds, shrubs, trees. Ask locals and/or look up info on them re food and medicinal value. Good to learn also of any that are poisonous or if parts of the plant are toxic to people or livestock. I've also looked up food/medicinal info on decorative shrubs and flowers that grow with minimal fuss at my place – these get priority as 'landscape' choices at my place.

I'm not sure about the separate island stuff..I do think that preservation and cultivation of heirloom varieties is essential.
I assume that ..humanity will need all the genetic diversity it can get..to endure the changing climate and various environmental pollutions including radiation.
Report Comment
+1 Heart..continuous cultivation of heirloom varieties is essential. All the seeds protected in hightech seedbanks will turn out pretty useless in a while, as they couldn't adapt to the massive change of climate and weather patterns.
When they find out and bin it all, we'll be left with the 6 apple varieties Monsanto leaves us to choose from today.
Report Comment
Hi Heart – just posted a note to DID that relates to your post on heirloom seed. I couldn't agree more! Found a single volunteer wheat plant at my place and will plant it's seeds; have a volunteer alfalfa that needs no fuss and (as I tell neighbors) may be one of the last to escape Monsanto's dark deeds! (Am mindful of cross pollination but no alfalfa fields anywhere near my place so am hopeful.)

Oh ! I guess I'm posting to you too, B&B on topic of seed saving! Great to be able to touch base on this topic here as it's one I pay a lot of attention to! (Vic also, I think is working on this!)
Report Comment
Hi, M123, stopped by to read the articles and a few comments and saw this. Yep on the seeds. Just still gathering info. Advice i've found is to set aside several of the best plants and fruits/veggies for the seed collecting to get a good diverse seed selection from the healthiest plants. I'm not sure that i will be planting that big of a garden. So, i may have to support an heirloom seed organization and buy their heirloom seeds, which supports them and gets me my seeds, but, not necessarily save seeds until my garden is much bigger. Still looking into it.

Hello Vic – so glad to catch your post! I've been thinking of you – I follow your posts on all topics, whether or not I weigh in, and am so very happy to have a moment to say so!
Thought of you a great deal yesterday when hearing KBOO's "Abe and Joe Talk Radio" podcast from Tuesday on coal trains threatening Oregon communities. They featured Dan Sears of 'Beyond Coal': http://kboo.fm/sites/default/files/episodeaudio/The%20Abe%20&%20Joe%20Show_0.mp3
Seems there's a constant upwelling of mega-developments pushed ahead by people of ?"unimaginable lack of imagination"? !!
Best Wishes to all communities involved – hard to believe infamous Peabody has endured for so long – that it has says something about economic structures and beliefs equally long enduring. (?)
One thing I only recently learned about saving seed is that their viability deteriorates fairly quickly – year or two at best? Hmm – maybe successful production from 'old' seed could help with strain development too!
Because of short viability info, I'm determined this spring to plant seeds I've been storing too long and see what happens.
I don't feel very confident in seed-saving. Have you been practicing it awhile?
Take care – hope to continue catching your posts!

Hi M123, me, too on your posts
.
I have had no success propagating seeds mostly because i forget i have them and by the time i plant them, they have probably already thought about their next incarnation and just need me to toss them out in the dirt so they can get on with rotting and to better things than hanging out in a jar or an old envelope. Now that i think about it, same thing with bird seed. Loses it's nutritional value after a season. I go through a couple pounds a day to make up for my house being where it is and taking food away from them, the spraying for grubs that still occurs in the parts of the woods here by the county and starves the birds, and because i need to hear them and see them in vast quantities each and everyday or i will surely wither away myself like old seed. What does sprout up the following year, though, are tomatoes, filberts, potatoes. I've been working on writing projects, lots and lots of research which takes lots of time, and reiking SFP 4. I give a little thought to the tragedies, the squid, the children today who survived, though i'm mostly just so deeply saddened, then get here to read a few posts. Folks are doing great posts and i have little to add, so i buzz through them. I don't see any real deep solutions or changes without consciousness, cognizance of spirit, and not limiting ourselves to matter as the only acceptable impression upon matter, so not sure what that means for my posting here…

con't M123…in the long run on such a Cartesian site. It's such a silly limit. And, if i may say, a bit suicidal, too, in my humble opinion. If we keep limiting ourselves to such a base, yet, of course, easily tangible, paradigm of perceiving the universe and how to influence and be influenced by it, well…i'd be dead by now. So, i'm thinking on that, too, to see where my best use of time and energy are. But, i'll come and read the blogs and jump in especially when the bullies try to highjack the site to get the attention and squelch the flow of information sharing.
I've become lazy. For many reasons, i decided recently to stay near Portland, which also means rain instead of heading out to the desert here. Be well.
I was thinking about the radical change from temperate Canada to Colorado high desert you've undergone, or was that Utah? It sounds exciting, challenging, and also sooo much work. In the start of winter, work is that last thing i want to do and i love coming indoors where the heat is on with a turn of a knob

PS.I think it is important..to consider when collecting seeds…what is practical for cultivation .. as to size of land available and water.
Many will not be able to sustain 'large area crops' like hemp and cotton..and intensive growing techniques should be considered.

Hi Heart , yes indeed , changing weather conditions . When reading about the flexibility of the medical part of the family , how easy it is to crossbreed and make new species with new adaptive properties, i still have good hopes that the hemp plant can be an extremely valuable resource truout big parts of the planet . I don't think there is another resource that comes close to what this plant can deliver .
Just a thought i'm having . What humankind choose to do with it is not really my bussiness since i won't be around by then . Size of land… make it a collective of the community's ?

Selling off commons asap – turning publicly funded societal services over to commercial enterprises (rather than addressing any management issues within the service) — an action that may bring regret in coming years.
Arguments for privatization are generally 'popularized' memes, supported often by media 'explanation.'
Heard an interview on US Postal that challenges popular beliefs and reminds of larger role of PO service.
Website gives link to interview with Grey Brechin on civic function of PO. http://www.savethepostoffice.com/
More on PO at same link.
Article lays out legislative history – the 'poison pill' aimed at PO. http://www.remappingdebate.org/article/congress-ties-postal-service-knots.
IMO we need to think very carefully about full impact of loss of any "commons". To my observation this applies globally, esp in many modern industrialized nations. But stripping the commons is a very powerful thought in the US.
Very similar 'campaign' underway city by city, state by state to rid communities of publicly funded available-for-all education.
Same points to be made:
–misinformation becomes popular belief;
–at risk is loss for public schools to serve as centers of learning/discussion for students and adults in community.

I just heard on the PBS News hour that there were no exits for the people who were burned to death in the recent Bangladesh garment factory fire.
Those U.S. businesses who purchased goods from Bangladesh had been approached to see whether they would give up ½ of 1% of their income from the sale of these goods in order to provide fire safety for the workers. The US businesses involved included Wal-Mart, The Gap, and Disney among others.
Their answer was no. One ought to realize that these US businesses off-shored their work in order to make more money on their sales. The workers in Bangladesh only made $37 a month for their work. Please do not ever buy ANYTHING from the businesses enumerated above or any other US businesses who stocked the goods made by employees who did not even make $40 a month and worked in fire traps.

I'm posting this at Off-topic because it's exclusively a report on W.Virginia community experience and health study results re mountain top removal. Clashes of interests among affected citizens over jobs and activism also mentioned.
As I listened, I kept thinking: "It would be good for Bayou Corne residents to hear this – this confirms industry patterns of total disregard for any sanctity of any life of any kind."
Heartbreaking and angering. I can't confirm that B.C. residents face an industry as notoriously aggressive as coal – but worth a head's up, IMO.

I was always open minded but without ever seeing one for myself, well, it remained to be seen before I could believe it. When I explained my sighting to someone, I got to a point where I was trying to rationalize what I had seen. A hologram came to mind. I really considered that that also was possible. But is wasn't. I just hope others(especially here amongst enlightened ones) also have sightings because I think it is an important piece of life's puzzle.
A hologram is quite different to a recovered physical item, leaking substances which kills the local fish. That the government decided to medial kill.
The same government also media killed Fukushima.
Believe what you need and want to I guess!

Are UFOs Alien? No!
Astronomer Mark Thompson argues that we need only apply some common sense to know UFOs probably don't originate from space.
“…No, I think that UFOs being of alien origin is highly unlikely. I'm not disputing the countless sightings, just the irrational assumption that they're alien in origin. I think it's much more likely something that has just been misidentified or the result of some very advanced earth based technology….”

Discounting radiation in space is parallel to discounting radiation from nuclear reactors.

i agree anne. for some reason the leap has been made from ufos to aliens.. but there is no immediate link between the two subjects. (except for later 'evidence' and speculation').
some have seen ufos. There is a high probability that they've never seen the occupants.. especially when 'drones' are a possibility.
lastly, a ufo that uses (close to) perfect stealth will not be visible by bright lights or audible by loud noise/propulsion. In general, a ufo doesn't need to comply with international aircraft navigation lighting.
if i see a report of bright lights, it's generally a report about bright lights. Real ufos are close to impossible to catch
Although with the contemporary fashion of everyone carrying a camera phone, the incidences should be increasing?

One way to deny liability for death from radiation. Hollywood takes over. Advertising rules supreme.
Report Comment
I get your point. What a bag of snakes tho… to use one story (which is officially denied) to cover another covered up story which is killing the people. Personally I didn't make a leap between the two story-line and didn't *map out* where this area is relative to Fukushima.
Report Comment
It doesn't have to be close to Fukushima to be a die off from radiation. There are mass animal deaths all around the globe. The earth is now covered with radiation from multiple sources and methane escaping from fracking and chemicals used in fracking is also killing off many animals. The methane is melting all over the earth and coming to the surface.

Japan zooming national debt entering Grecian rarified air:
"The country has public debt equivalent to 237 percent of gross domestic product this year, the biggest debt-to-GDP ratio globally, estimates by the International Monetary Fund show. The ratio for the U.S. is 107 percent."
Japanese analysts not worried…proclaim debtor status is the "cleanest dirty shirt.”

SP: Blaming China for loss of trade over the island scandal is typical Japanese twisted logic. Yes, the Chinese are pissed, but the stigma of a nuclear complex still out of control is far more likely. A lot of people don't want possibly contaminated goods. There are other fish in the sea…literally.
All this debt means more pressure to fire up the idled nuclear plants. The Japanese government now knows how it feels to be a nuclear whore and junkie. Got to sell their soul to get their fix, even if it kills them.

Hey Brawny! not a follower 'til recently. now I'm noticing them quite regularly. and the head space of the locals during events. here's a recent sky shot from my place.http://www.datafilehost.com/download-e97bac17.html There was a circle the day before as well. On this particular day, there was one trail after another. At one stage, the spreading trails almost covered the sky, and just spread out rather than disappear as one would expect a contrail to…..

WSPA has rescued two more bears from cruel, captive conditions. We are thrilled to share with you the latest news from our campaign to rescue the final bears in captivity in Romania.
The two bears, Prince Charles, 40 years old, and Winnie, 20, were set for another long harsh European winter in captivity before WSPA and its local partner AMP stepped in. When volunteer wildlife rescue group, Project Ursus, took over the old zoo for use as a rehabilitation facility, they saw that the bears urgently needed help. So they called on WSPA.
Charles is very old for a bear, 40, and he appears to be deaf and blind. He has arthritis in one hind leg and suffers from heart, lung, digestion and teeth problems. Moving him to the tranquil Zarnesti sanctuary was tricky, but he now has his own forest enclosure, right next to blind bear Max.
After a life of captivity, most bears take time to adjust to the forest. Charles, despite his health problems, is relishing freedom. When first entering the sanctuary, he immediately found his way to the pool and played happily, splashing in water for the first time. He then explored the enclosure, in his own careful way, before taking a nap in his den!
The younger bear, Winnie, is active and strong but looked agitated and continually paced and rocked in his small concrete cage. Thanks to your incredible generosity, he has now been moved to the forest enclosure and has his freedom for the first time.

hi maggie. you and the bears are welcome to my actions
i think if we can't stop the fate of fuku-d, we must do what we can to make life as respectful and comfortable for the critters of Earth.
we may not have many days left, so bank accounts are meaningless. but what is contained within those accounts buys blessed relief and some joy and freedom for the animals in these possible final days.
one way or the other, my days (well, decades
) are limited, and if I damn well can't stop the destruction of Earth from my armchair, I'll do what I can with the resources I have to give.
i ask everyone to support animal activism to the max, it's the least we can do in these times. no politics, no dogma, no blame nor guilt. just simply protect the animals from our madness.

Richard – "and if I damn well can't stop the destruction of Earth from my armchair, I'll do what I can with the resources I have to give." and so it goes, that we do this each in our way. Breaks my heart to know how much habitat and critter trauma is in progress. Every creature rescued, (and ever habitat for that matter), is opportunity for gift that seems immensely important. Looking for your 'graphics' post … moving on to find it!

Richard – ah, here it is! I have thought lately of comics approach to sharing ideas, information. The format may be ideal for our time for a bunch of reasons. Even deeply serious highly regarded non-fiction works have shifted toward comic format(Chris Hedges, Pulitzer winner, in collaboration with Joe Sacco). Just looked for a link on this and found there's a genre "comics journalism" coming into its own: http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/2012/07/comics-journalism-overload/#more-122169. More links on this embedded in the article.
(American historian Howard Zinn's "A People's History" has been done in comics format I think; and earlier today I heard of one more social/economic history presentations done same way – sorry, can't recall who/what!)
Please continue exploring this!
