Truro breast cancer specialist urges in calm in wake of news of Angelina Jolie breast surgery
The consultant said Miss Jolie’s case was very rare and that amongst breast cancer patients, less than one per cent of cases would have been caused by the type of genetic mutation she has.

“…The Royal Cornwall Hospital does provide genetic testing where there is a strong family history of cancer. Dr Wheatley said preventative surgery of this kind was carried out in a few cases every year in Cornwall.
“He said: ‘It’s like looking at War and Peace for a spelling mistake. If we find an abnormality then, together with looking at the family history we can give a percentage risk.
“’It’s a really tricky decision but if you have been swayed by seeing your mum or sister go through horrible things you may want to have surgery.’”

US weakens fracking rules
The proposed regulations allow fracking companies to keep some of their chemicals exempt from disclosure, calling them ‘trade secrets’. Environmentalists have criticized the BLM for this, arguing that fracking companies could use dangerous chemicals near local communities that could pose an unknown risk, without having to report what they use. They also fail to require an evaluation of the security of cement barriers in individual wells. Oil and gas companies need only to have one of their wells tested for safety, and the government then assumes that the other wells are similar.
“After reviewing the draft rules, we believe the administration is putting the American public’s health and well-being at risk, while continuing to give polluters a free ride,” Michael Brune, executive director of the Sierra Club, told EcoWatch. “The draft BLM rules ignore the recommendations of the president’s own shale gas advisory committee, which called for transparency, full public chemical disclosure, environmental safeguards, and pollution monitoring.”
Environmentalists are particularly concerned about the potential contamination of drinking water across the US, and have criticized Secretary Jewell for letting them down.
“Our public lands – and the people who live near them – deserve the highest level of protection,” she added. “Today’s rule could have set the gold standard. Instead the BLM is settling for shoddy protections peddled by the oil and gas…

‘Monsanto Protection Act’ might be repealed in Senate
According to the Huffington Post, Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Oregon) plans to introduce an amendment in Washington that would repeal Section 735 from the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act of 2013, a provision that has put St. Louis, Missouri-based Monsanto in the sights of environmentalists around the world.
“The provision would strip federal courts of the authority to halt the sale and planting of an illegal, potentially hazardous GE crop while the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) assesses those potential hazards,” dozens of farmers wrote the House of Representatives before the bill was passed in March. “Further, it would compel USDA to allow continued planting of that same crop upon request, even if in the course of its assessment the Department finds that it poses previously unrecognized risks.”

Monsanto vs. Mother Earth
They’re trying to patent away varieties of our everyday vegetables and fruits like cucumber, broccoli and melons, virtually forcing growers to pay them for seed and risk being sued if they don’t.
But we can stop them from buying up Mother Earth. Companies like Monsanto have found loopholes in European law to have exclusive rights over conventional seeds, so we just need to close them shut before they set a dangerous global precedent. And to do that, we need key countries like Germany, France and the Netherlands — where opposition is already growing — to call for a vote to stop Monsanto’s greedy plans. The Avaaz community has shifted governments before, and we can do it again.
Many farmers and politicians are already against this — we just need to bring in people power to pressure these countries to keep Monsanto’s hands off our food. Sign now and share with everyone to help build the biggest food defense call ever.

Shopping App Let’s You Boycott Monsanto and Others
A new free app called ‘Buycott’ allows you to use your Android or iPhone to analyze products and determine if you’re supporting Monsanto’s GMOs, Big Food companies who are damaging your health, or simply low quality products.
Think of the new App, championed by Darcy Burner, a former Microsoft programmer and congressional candidate, like an all-knowing friend who reminds you not to get that pair of yoga pants because Dupont Chemical (also a subsidiary of Koch) makes the lycra in them, or to choose that bag of carrots over this one, because there is no GMO in it. If you thought fair trade hang-tags were a way to keep a watchful eye on corporate greed and environmental negligence, then get a load of the app that just scans a barcode and tells you if its ‘safe’ or not.
In fact, the App will trace the product all the way back to its ‘parent’ company, so you know exactly who you are supporting with your purchases. For example, did you know McNeil Nutritionals is a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, who has continued to put carcinogenic chemicals in their products for years?
Let’s face it, remembering who the top 10 most unethical companies are when you are just trying to buy some dinner, or a new pair of pants shouldn’t mean you are inadvertently contributing to corporate greed and fraud. Fortunately, there’s an App for that, and it comes out in May, premiering on iTunes and the Google app store. Its free and its name…

Is anyone else disturbed by press on Angelina's double mastectomys while not a mention of the proliferation of nuclear contamination on our planet? Since the beginning of the nuclear age, as we here all know, the numbers and kinds of cancers have increased at an astonishing rate.
Yet, as in Angie's case, the media focuses on the personal story, her beauty, the treatment of symptoms &/or personal-individual causations, and not at all on the monumental environmental causes like nulclear radiation and other carcinogens in our environment.
I, for one, am apalled! I refuse to aaccept the solution of sawing off breasts, ovaries, prostates, uterai without any attention to the proliferation of radiation leaking NPPs, etc.
Write your congress critters!

It seems rather obvious that people who suffer from cancer are vilified by our culture. This is especially sad because it is our culture which has destroyed the environment with nuclear experimentation and other toxins which cause these cancers. And GMOs destroy the natural means for healing. A neighbor spread toxins all over his lawn and now everything is dead in his yard. This should be illegal. Whatever kills the earth, also kills people and all living creatures. Cosmetic values shouldn't trump life.
It is interesting that a culture that applauds breast augmentation, despises breast cancer. Surely a schizophrenic symptom of our culture.
The sad thing is that because of nuclear radiation, the very people who vilify those with cancer will soon be suffering the same malady. Although people seem to be vilified for their genes, surely a new manifestation of racism, the very genetic studies searching for cures may ultimately lead to cures for those cells which are spontaneously mutated (cancer) without genetic inheritance.
Mutation is destroying all life on earth–mutation caused by nuclear proliferation. Nuclear scientists love the power their experiments give them. But this power is delusional and brings only death. Our culture is truly schizophrenic. Paying nuclear scientists large salaries instead of outlawing these pursuits is a defect of our culture.
Report Comment
Allowing bankers and/or a war machine to criminally steal our treasure is also a defect of our culture. Radiation seems to wipe out the capacity of humans for empathy and concern for their fellow creatures. And so the slow death spiral is accelerating and sucking all life into a vortex with no end in sight.

Breast Cancer Genetic Testing Gets Covered by Health Care Reform
“Genetic testing for breast cancer will be covered under the Affordable Care Act, potentially saving women who need the test thousands of dollars.
“Today (March 6), Myriad Genetics, the company that makes the test for the breast cancer genes BRCA1 and BRCA2, said that the U.S. government considers these tests to be preventive services. This means that private insurance plans are required to cover the cost of the tests, including co-pays, deductibles and coinsurance, provided that the plans do not have a "grandfathered" status.
“Women with mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes are at higher risk for breast cancer and ovarian cancer compared with women who don't have the mutated genes. The cost of testing can range from $300 to $3,000, depending on how much of the genome is analyzed, according to Breastcancer.org, an organization that provides information on breast cancer.
“Previously, the decision about whether or not to cover the test was left up to individual insurance companies.
“To be eligible for coverage of the test under the Affordable Care Act, a woman needs to be considered at high risk for breast and/or ovarian cancer, typically as a result of having a family history of the diseases, and she must have an insurance plan that is not grandfathered.
Report Comment
[cont.]
“Grandfathered insurance plans are those that existed on or before March, 23, 2010, the date the Affordable Care Act was enacted. In 2012, only about half of Americans who received health insurance from their employers were enrolled in grandfathered insurance plans, Myriad Genetics said.
"’This is good news because we believe that women should have the best data available to determine their risk of breast cancer and make decisions about their treatment,’ said Andrea Rader, a spokeswoman for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a nonprofit organization that funds breast cancer research and advocates for patients.
“Because the BRCA1/BRCA2 genetic test is expensive, having health insurance coverage with no cost to the patient ‘is of great benefit’ to those who need the test, said Janet Coffman, a professor at the University of California, San Francisco, who researches health policy. However, Coffman noted that just 2 percent of women are recommended to get the test. The other 98 percent are not considered not to be at high enough risk to benefit from the test, she said.
Report Comment
[cont.]
“Factors that put women at high risk for breast cancer, and would make them candidates for the test, include having two first degree relatives who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, with one developing the disease before age 50; or being of Ashkenazi Jewish heritage and having a first degree relative with breast or ovarian cancer, according to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force.
“Because it's quite common for health insurance plans to change, over time, more people are expected to be in non-grandfathered plans, Coffman said.
“Pass it on: Some women at risk for breast cancer may be able to have the cost of genetic screening for the condition covered under the Affordable Care Act.”

Obama's Arctic strategy sets off a climate time bomb
US National Strategy for the Arctic Region prioritises corporate 'economic opportunities' at the expense of everyone else
May 17 2013
"Despite repeated references to "preservation" and "conservation", the strategy fails to outline any specific steps that would be explored to mitigate or prevent the disappearance of the Arctic sea ice due to intensifying global warming. Instead, the document from the outset aims to:
"… position the United States to respond effectively to challenges and emerging opportunities arising from significant increases in Arctic activity due to the diminishment of sea ice and the emergence of a new Arctic environment."
In other words, far from being designed to prevent catastrophe, the success of the new strategy is premised precisely on the disappearance of the Arctic summer sea ice."

I wonder sometimes if a person, who has not personally almost died from cancer because of exposure to so much radiation, can really conceive how horrible our environment has become. Fukushima is an ELE, and yet more nuclear reactors are being built. Nuclear energy is the most expensive form of energy yet no government is willing to completely stop all nuclear energy and most are building new nuclear plants .
Preventive medicine is the cheapest form of medicine. Also no insurance company will pay for genetic testing for someone without a family history of breast cancer. And the Supreme Court has not yet ruled on whether or not to allow only one monopoly to run all the genetic testing. Proprietary drugs after a time become generic drugs. My insurance company periodically gives me written notice that it will not pay for certain chemotherapy drugs. Each state has the right to opt out of certain coverage and some states have already stated what coverage will not be available to recipients.
Every insurance plan also denies coverage of certain other drugs. Seniors were advised to shop around for different supplemental insurance to determine the best coverage for the drugs they are taking.
Transplants are also denied to older individuals.
No insurance company is going to pay for either testing or surgery that they deem is unnecessary.
I consider all cosmetic surgery completely unnecessary and all cosmetic dentistry. One could go on and on.

No poor person is going to be able to pay the copays for genetic testing. I haven't seen by own physician in over 7 years. I couldn't begin to pay even a modest copay. I have very good insurance and pay large premiums, but can never afford to go to the doctor or pay for any medication.
If the cost of genetic testing is prohibitive, people will have to pay for it out of their own pocket. Less than 2% of the population have BRCA mutations. Only the wealthy will be able to pay the copays for any surgery. They have a right to pay for expensive medical treatment.

I limit my diet because I don't have any other option and never will. My teeth are cracking and ugly. But there is nothing I can do about it. I have had an abscessed tooth for over 2 years, but I can't do anything about it, and have no insurance to cover it. I wear glasses that I've had for almost forty years, but have to insurance to pay for new glasses and have to money to pay for them myself. If you are not poor, you have no idea how the poor live.
People have a right to fear the radiation all around them. It is not paranoia, it is real. Look at Elizabeth Edwards. With untold wealth, she still died of breast cancer. Cell phones and cell phone towers and wireless computers are also killing and causing Alzheimer's. Why isn't there an outcry? Processed fppd. tramsfats. GMOs, pesticides, herbicides, irradiated food are killing off many. Why is there no outcry? Why are cigarettes still on the market? Health care is so expensive in the US and actually helps so few because there is no prevention.

Hi anne
Insurances are only concerned about profits, they tie the hands of the Doctors. Insurance dictates how long a person can stay in the hospital, what drugs and how long they will cover them for a person.
Insurances now have become Doctors without the training.
Going to hospital even with insurance can easily put a family in financial trouble.
I would say that most people can't afford insurance, and there are many who go without medical treatment.
I would love to see law makers live for one year on only 2,000.00 a Month or less with paying rent, car payments, and so on. Wonder how they would manage or if they would have more understanding what people go through. Not easy to get a head and when you get sick, that only puts a person farther behind.

Scientific Insurgents Say 'Journal Impact Factors' Distort Science
An ad hoc coalition of unlikely insurgents — scientists, journal editors and publishers, scholarly societies, and research funders across many scientific disciplines — today posted an international declaration calling on the world scientific community to eliminate the role of the journal impact factor (JIF) in evaluating research for funding, hiring, promotion, or institutional effectiveness.
The DORA statement posted today makes 18 recommendations for change in the scientific culture at all levels — individual scientists, publishers, institutions, funding agencies, and the bibliometric services themselves — to reduce the dominant role of the JIF in evaluating research and researchers and instead to focus on the content of primary research papers, regardless of publication venue.
"The issue cuts right across and not just publishers of all shapes but all the different constituencies involved in research assessment, all the way from individual researchers to the institutions that they work in or are funded by to the journals that they publish in."
Even though the JIF is only a measure of a journal's average citation frequency, it has become a powerful proxy for scientific value and is being widely misused to assess individual scientists and research institutions, say the DORA framers.
Report Comment
The San Francisco declaration cites studies that outline known defects in the JIF, distortions that skew results within journals, that gloss over differences between fields, and that lump primary research articles in with much more easily cited review articles. Further, the JIF can be "gamed" by editors and authors, while the data used to compute the JIF "are neither transparent nor openly available to the public," according to DORA.
"Researchers are now judged by where they publish not by what they publish.
The SF declaration urges all stakeholders to focus on the content of papers, rather than the JIF of the journal in which it was published, says Bertuzzi
The 'high-impact' obsession is warping our scientific judgment, damaging careers, and wasting time and valuable work."
One of the four editors of Traffic who signed DORA, Michael Marks acknowledges that the group realized that the scientific world has been using impact factors inappropriately.

Medical Laboratories Are Reporting Findings For Gene Testing They Have Not Received Consent For
Genetic testing is now officially crossing into dangerous territory as patients are routinely denied informed consent for genes they have given no authorization to test for. This type of clinical testing has long required patient consent and patients have had a "right not to know" the results. However, as 21st century medicine now begins to use the tools of genome sequencing, patient have no opportunity to opt-out of specific gene testing except to decline the entire sequencing. The act is unethical and critics charge that pharmaceutical companies may be to blame in influencing testing protocols to ultimately increase the percentage of a medicated demographic.
The American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics(ACMG) released recommendations stating that when clinical sequencing is undertaken for any medical reason, laboratories must examine 57 other specific genes to look for incidental findings. These findings must then be reported to the clinician and the patient. ACMG said that failure to report these findings would be considered "unethical." The patient has no opportunity to opt-out of the testing of the 57 genes, except to decline all sequencing. The recommendations also apply to children.
The patient may also fear that 'extra' results in their medical record will invite risk of discrimination."

Professor of Medical Technology and Director of Medical Science and Technology, Dr. Andrew Roberts says the process is flawed. "Not only is the entire process flawed, but it is also discriminatory and we know this type of clinical sequencing, without informed consent is the brainchild of pharmaceutical powers of intervention which have crept up on the system in the last decade." Dr. Roberts stated that abuse is inevitable. "Think about the consequences that will result for patients from defining autism, cancer, schizophrenia, obesity and many other diseases solely based on what is clinically sequenced as a faulty gene?"
The ACMG indicates that their list of genes to test without consent will grow. Their report says that laboratories may look for variants in other genes, "as deemed appropriate," and that ACMG will review the roster of 57 genes annually. Wolf et al. voice concern that "As the list expands, so will the scope of testing without consent…." The authors urge the importance of patients' rights, especially in an era of genome sequencing when extensive genetic information can be generated on any patient.

warp engines have been talked about for a long time. Well, maybe they have them, but how is this different from 20 years ago? I knew a top UFO researcher, saw his photos etc. Multiple orthographic rotations of a craft in one frame of a photo or video was considered by him to be a good sign of authentic UFO photos. It seems we are far from this controlled space time warp. Look at Bearden and the rest; same theorizing for the last 35 years.

Hi-tech is solely good against nondeveloped countries/targets .
The same with 'stealth' and satellite-formation-flying .
One Kinetic object ( missile ) from Russia or China will put that 'formation' to rest , and will be among the very first targets hit in case of a WW3 .
All this is only bread-and-butter for the War Industries and Banks at our expense .

Major international oil companies are buying off governments, according to the world's most prominent climate scientist, Prof James Hansen. During a visit to London, he accused the Canadian government of acting as the industry's tar sands salesman and "holding a club" over the UK and European nations to accept its "dirty" oil.
"Oil from tar sands makes sense only for a small number of people who are making a lot of money from that product," he said in an interview with the Guardian. "It doesn't make sense for the rest of the people on the planet. We are getting close to the dangerous level of carbon in the atmosphere and if we add on to that unconventional fossil fuels, which have a tremendous amount of carbon, then the climate problem becomes unsolvable."
Report Comment
"To leave our children with a manageable situation, we need to leave the unconventional fuel in the ground," he said. Canada's ministers were "acting as salesmen for those people who will gain from the profits of that industry," he said. "But I don't think they are looking after the rights and wellbeing of the population as a whole.
The EU aims to penalise oil sources with higher carbon footprints, as part of a drive to reduce the carbon emissions from transport called the fuel quality directive (FDQ).
Hansen, who informed the US Congress of the danger of global warming in 1988, has caused controversy before by saying the "CEOs of fossil fuel companies should be tried for high crimes against humanity" and calling coal-fired power plants "factories of death".
In April, he stepped down from his Nasa position after 46 years, in order to spend more time communicating the risks of climate change and to work on legal challenges to governments.
Hansen has started a science programme at Columbia University, the first task of which is to produce a report to support suits filed again the US federal government and several state governments. It is being pursued by the Our Children's Trust charity and is based on a trust principle recognised in US law.

The ATMOSPHERIC TRUST Legal Effort, coordinated and supported by Our Children's Trust, is grounded in the Public Trust Doctrine, which states that it is the duty of the government to protect the resources that are essential for our collective survival and prosperity. These resources-rivers, groundwater, the seashore and in this case, the atmosphere- cannot be privatized or substantially impaired because they belong to everyone equally, even to those not yet born.
The government has a legal obligation to preserve these trust resources and to manage them for the benefit of everyone, not just for the benefit of the wealthy and politically-connected corporations. The government cannot allow the privatization of the atmosphere. The Public Trust Doctrine is well-established in American law and in many other legal traditions throughout the world. The doctrine stretches all the way back to Roman times, long before anyone understood how important and fragile the atmosphere truly is. Fifteen hundred years ago the Emperor Justininan wrote, "The things which are naturally everybody's are: the air, flowing water, the sea, and the seashore." The legal actions apply this deep-rooted doctrine to our modern understanding of the atmosphere, demanding that the government recognize and protect our collective right to a stable, livable climate.

Why would adults from the Oil and Gas Industry bully 10 and 13 year old kids?
I am a 13-year-old boy from the Aztec tradition and I have doing environmental activism since a young age. I have been giving presentations in schools on environmental issues, showing kids the state of the planet we are inheriting and the power we have to do something about it. A couple of years ago I learned about Fracking and started studying and uncovering the disastrous effects Fracking had on our health, the water, the air, and our community. I did hours of research, and reviewed many many studies about the direct hidden impacts of fracking in our community.
I was invited to do a Fracking presentation for two classes of about 26 students each at Evergreen middle school, but then word got out that a couple of kids were coming to talk about fracking and EVERYONE wanted to come. Together there were about 200 kids total and they were all very excited about the presentation and participated by asking questions and joining us in the Fracking song we performed. It went great and the kids loved it and they were all talking about how cool the presentation was and many of them signed a petition I brought for a Statewide ban on Fracking.
Report Comment
I was totally psyched, until I heard that one of the kids went home and told their parents who work for the Gas industry about the presentation and the song me and my brother performed called “What the Frack”. The parents got so mad and started calling other parents. Then they contacted the schools and said it wasn’t fair to give a one sided presentation to their kids, which I can see the point in that but the oil and gas industry do go into schools to convince kids Fracking is safe and are allowed to give kids brainwashing coloring books saying fracking is great.
The whole thing escalated when conservatives and oil and gas parents pulled a video of our Fracking performance at Evergreen school and started posting it all over the web saying very horrible things about me and bullying me and my little brother. They were posting name calling even cursing on my facebook and youtube pages, that other kids see who are a part of the Earth Guardian youth movement.
I believe they got really upset because I was exposing the truth about fracking. I was educating them on the facts and science I have learned about fracking. Their was a study done by NOAA on the air quality in Erie Colorado, close to my home where their is lots of wells, and it stated that they found levels of Methane, butane and some other carcinogenic chemicals in the air were higher then levels in big cities like Houston Texas and Pasadena California.
Report Comment
The Lisa Mckensey study and report shows that living within a half mile of a fracking well results in a 66 percent increase in cancer. Wouldn’t you want to protect your kids from being exposed to these dangerous chemicals. The kids I have worked with in Erie who live near wells have severe nose bleeds, migraine headaches, asthma and other symptoms they never had until fracking wells showed up practically in their back yards.
More and more people are learning about how bad fracking is, even Robert F. Kennedy jr, came out and publicly admitted that Fracking is not a safe bridge away from fossil fuels and is worse for climate change then using coal because of the fugitive methane emissions that are released in the fracking process’s. A movement is growing across the country to stop fracking and implement renewable energy solutions. If they put half the money into renewables that they put into the gas, we could power our whole state of Colorado by solar or wind, which are both resources that are abundant in our state. Josh Fox’s new movie Gasland 2 is being released and I encourage anyone who wants to learn more about the dangers of fracking to watch it.
So my question is? Why does a multi-million dollar industry need to bully 10 and 13-year-old boys? Is their something they are hiding about the true impacts of fracking?

State to spend six weeks shoring up collapsed coal mine in Erie
Baseline Mine subsided in 2007 under Bonanza Drive; fourth and final
“…Despite the fact that more than 120 abandoned coal mines dot the Boulder-Weld County Coal Field, which stretches from the Marshall area at Colo. 93 to the vicinity of Dacono and Frederick, Amundson said subsidence events like the one that sunk Bonanza Drive five years ago are not terribly common. Still he encourages residents in eastern Boulder County who live in homes built before February 1989 to consider participating in the state's Mine Subsidence Protection Program….”
