Fukushima Voice, the website of Fukushima Radioactive Contamination Symptoms Research or (FRCSR), examines the August 29, 2012 press conference in Tokyo by members of the International Physicians for Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW):

Q: What do you think about the high number of thyroid abnormalities found in Fukushima children?

Dr. Tilman Ruff, a co-president-elect of IPPNW: So these data are clearly important and need to be conducted and compiled and these surveys repeated on a regular basis. We think that’s entirely appropriate. The results of such studies are dependent on the method. And what will be important in relation to the follow-up of those affected in Fukushima will be the trends over time and the comparison to the other areas which have not been so contaminated.

It’s true this survey is almost certainly a baseline survey. We won’t expect from biology or experience in Chernobyl or anywhere else that thyroid abnormalities will be evident so soon after the accident. The diagnostic criteria that are used are very important and must be consistent and comparable between studies. Most of these cysts and nodules are very small. We think that the decision to conduct a study in the near future in a less affected area of Japan is a good decision.

[...]

Q: Any controversy between Fukushima Medical University doctors and IPPNW doctors regarding how it was difficult for Fukushima residents to obtain a second opinion?

[...]

Ruff: I just want to conclude this or at least to make a comment that it’s clear that thyroid abnormalities are a significant concern here. The experience of a rapid increase in thyroid cancer in children, unexpectedly early after Chernobyl, is a very important lesson. And the recent WHO report of radiation doses in Fukushima estimates thyroid doses for children well in the range where stable iodine should be given by international guidelines. And it was not used in Japan. So that increases the importance of follow-up of thyroid issues.

Analysis via FRCSR

With all due respect, neither Ruff nor Karamoskos is a pediatrician or a thyroid specialist.

Nor do they really have a firm grasp of the level of contamination that has spread not only in Fukushima but the neighboring prefectures, and actually all over Japan. Nor do they realize what is really going on with people in Fukushima and neighboring prefectures, behind the charade put on by the government officials and Fukushima Medical University.

[...]

Actually, it is not just in Fukushima. People in Tokyo and surrounding Kanto region are complaining of thyroid abnormalities: Some families who evacuated to western Japan were dismayed to learn that their children had thyroid nodules and/or cysts upon ultrasound examination. When they take their children to “thyroid specialists.” they are told “It’s natural.” “It’s congenital.” and they are often not even given copies of the ultrasound images, which they are entitled to. Some hospitals blatantly refuse to provide medical care to people who would like to have thyroid examination done due to concerns regarding radiation exposure.

[...]

Will Ruff and Karamoskos maintain their positions if it were their own children in the position of Fukushima children, still living in contaminated areas, with “glass badges” around their necks to measure cumulative radiation doses (while the radiation damages their bodies all along), breathing contaminated air and dust particles, eating contaminated food and drinking contaminated milk in their school lunches?

The human body is being used to validate the reaction that such a massive amount of radiation contamination has on it. This is hugely deviating from the true purpose of “science”: a tool to benefit the collective knowledge and well-being of mankind, neither at the expense of the other.

This is, indeed, an unprecedented situation where a large number of adults and children are being observed for effects of radiation exposure, in situ. Allowing such an inhumane, inexcusable act, could not be compatible with the movement away from nuclear power and toward truly safe energy production.

More on IPPNW: [Dr. Helen] Caldicott was the founding president from 1978 to 1983 of Physicians for Social Responsibility (founded originally in 1961 and dormant from 1970 to 1978), and she helped to recruit 23,000 doctors committed to educating the public and their colleagues on the dangers of nuclear energy. She also worked abroad to establish similar national groups that focused on education about the medical dangers of nuclear energy, nuclear weapons and nuclear war. The umbrella organisation International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War) was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1985.

  • Time Is Short Time Is Short

There is a global battle brewing between the physicians and governments over the radiation from Fukushima, which will expose all the other nuclear problems the governments have been trying to cover up.

It might be easier to shut up the media and the nuclear engineering community (and most doctors in Japan), but telling tens of thousands of non-Japanese doctors they can't speak out about the rad sickness infecting and killing their patients is another matter entirely.

It's coming, and it's going to be huge.

Dr. Mengele would be proud. This is a perfect example of why, as a Democrat, I insist on expercising my 4th amendment right. I can't imagine this happening if the population was armed and had a way to defend itself from it's own government.

  • Some people in Japan are matching the inhuman cruelty of Japan, Nazi Germany and of the Indian State of Madhya Pradesh now in the treatment meted out to their own people during World War II.

Inhumane act is right. Is anyone looking at the West Coast USA for a similar trend? Japan's past of ignoring polution effects..is very distrubing. What happens if 40% of all Japanese children get thyroid cancer in a year or so? Or in the USA?

Today, Enformable linked the FOIA/NRC document of what radiation amounts were known in early April 2011 in Japan.

I've gone thru it and for historical purposes will document here:

** Early April 2011 at least 18.6 miles from meltdown site —>

    AIR: C-137 = 13.5 to 122 pCi/m3

    SOIL: I-131 = from 41,000 to 200,000 Bq/kg
    C-137 = from 25,000 to 100,000 Bq/kg

LEAFY VEGETATION @ 24.9 miles from site:

    I-131 = 300,000 Bq/kg
    C-137 = 1,440,000 Bq/kg

(gives yearly dose of 4.4 rem/year and EPA guidelines is 2 rem year)

Note that the nuclear industry fought to keep the evacuation zone at 20 miles, and yet the vegetation at 25 miles contains radiation

** The highest PLUME radiation readings were found in the Northwest = 170 uSv/hr

    ** At the Daichi Plant:

    1. 30 Sv/hr in dry wells of Units 1 and 2
    2. 20 Sv/hr in drywell of Unit 3
    3. 1 Sv/hr in Debris outside Unit 3
    4. 82 uSv/hr at maingate
    5. 54 uSv/hr at westgate
    6. 645 uSv/hr at main building

Report admits that data is limited

** Report also gives U.S. FDA's Derived Intervention Levels for Food:

    —-> I-131 = 170 Bq/kg
    —-> C-137 and C-134 = 1,200 Bq/kg

Let Busby be called a fear monger by some on here. (Pr Chris Busby on children´s heart attacks in Fukushima : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4Kkuo-IK-A ) But let us not forget the facts:
CHERNOBYL HEART and CHILDREN OF CHERNOBYL:

(tell the kids prof Busby was just a fear-monger)..

I have thought much about this.

Actually some "fear mongering" could be very helpful to make the Americans wake up and look themselves and then think about whether they really want/need nuke plants and the waste these create.

But I doubt that sensationalistic messages of "trillions of lethal doses" emitted is helpful. People then wonder why there is no mass dying that would be expected, and this could make them conclude that nuclear isn't that dangerous as some people say.
And this is not what we want/need.

IMHO there should be less sensationalistic headlines, but more background information which lets people understand which irreversible risk and damage nuclear energy poses.

So, maybe Busby is indeed doing a good thing by making Americans and Englishmen curious and look themselves.

Most people who are in scientific medical studies are volunteers or applicants to said programs.

Its easy to see where the FUKU-Japan approach is unethical; regardless of supposed good intentions.

There is science then there is medical science. One deals in facts the other deals in percentages. One gets peer reviewed the other gets censored.

I just do not get it, I am at a loss for words, shocked and bewildered, it's as if we don't matter.
Show me a definitive paper on the effects of radiation that everyone agrees on, they don't know but will argue all day on what is safe and not, well they will have their answer very shortly at the expense of the Japanese.

"…This is, indeed, an unprecedented situation where a large number of adults and children are being observed for effects of radiation exposure, in situ…"

Not really. This is just a different spin on Dr. Mengele's 'research methods'. Unfortunately, the actual radiation levels were concealed from the Japanese people. The 'observations' of suffering and death are fairly useless without a clue on exposure.

Is the result going to be any different than "A lot of Japanese kids are going to get thyroid cancer from I-131 exposure?"

At least Mengele would have measured the victims. How much for how long is dangerous? The Japanese government's response: "…Gee – we didn't think to measure that. In fact, we REFUSED to measure it for Fukusima victims because we didnt' want to scare the Japanese people (…and the lawsuits would cost us a fortune if we published those numbers)."

If they do cough up any belated 'estimates', it will only be for I-131. They'll conveniently ignore I-129 and the rest of the iodine isotopes Fuku spewed because people won't ask or simply don't understand. The thyroid does not discriminate between iodine isotopes – it will suck up any form of it if it wants iodine. Besides, the total radioactive iodine dose to the thyroid considering all Fuku isotopes would scare the Japanese people (…and the lawsuits would cost us a fortune if we published those numbers).

Keep this in mind if the EPA ever coughs up the fake 2011 Q2…

Radiation in all our crops, water, milk, grains and livestock are man-made, and forced on us. And backed by public leaders. This needs to change.
