Marcoule: an increase in radioactivity was observed in the Gard, Vaucluse and Herault, Passerellesud (France) by Par Drozerah, September 15, 2011:

Google Translation

“A level of radioactivity 10 times the daily measurement of Avignon and 4 times higher than the Mont Ventoux”

According to an article published September 13, 2011 on the website of the anti-nuclear coordination Southeast, an “anomalous increase” of radioactivity on the detection of X-rays, Gamma and Beta particles have been measured within a radius of 120 km downstream of Marcoule.

On September 12, 2011 anti-nuclear members of the Collective have made the Vaucluse independent measurements of radioactivity in different parts of Vaucluse, Gard and Herault [...]

No “credible explanation” from the makers of the nuclear accident at Marcoule and the weight of the French nuclear lobby, the collective anti-nuclear states that the cause of this increase in radioactivity could be directly linked to the bombing in the Gard. [...]

confusingly criirad posted this today (might be late on thier website?)

“Accident of September 12, 2011 on the site of Marcoule (Gard): the service beacons of laboratory CRIIRAD in increased vigilance

    Note n°5 of the 15/09/11 13:00

No artificial radionuclide transmitting gamma was detected, on the aerosols and gases collected between on September 6, 09 h00 and on September 13, 11 h50 (local times). The limits of detection of these analyses are lower than 0,1 mBq/m3, that is to say 0,0001 Bq/m3. As example, the activity out of cesium 137 of the filter paper is lower than 0,008 mBq/m3.”

obviously thier test have a delay time… heres the link for you to check…and they are checking gases too!!

Please start United states Eneuser / thread, For uploading our private radiation monitoring information…

We need one for japan too.

It has come to my attention that dangerous radiation levels are being reported all the time, and there is no adequate leveling other than that of the epa.

“We need to do private surveys of large cities independently. ”

Places of interest are probably: Seattle, Portland, Vancouver, San diego, San Francisco, Tuscan Arizona, and Vancouver BC.

We need to survey full cities Markets, parks, schools, public attractions, restaurants, industrial commercial, and beyond.

    Please start a discussion thread…

Users should be encouraged to use it. Upload the most compelling surveys you can accomplish.

We can plot the points highlighting area’s by color scheme and approach the appropriate channels of communication if any area’s of concerns are located.

    Please give your opinions below…

Hi Taco, good idea! Don’t you think it might be too much to be incorporated in this site – maybe a new site would be better?

      • If I had a geiger counter, I could easily walk a grid in seattle. Taking levels every block for a square mile every day…

Then upload them onto a youtube account….

On the discussion thread I could then Upload one link to the youtube accounts Titled radiation monitoring Seattle.

One link on one thread to hundreds of samples… Also I can upload other users in seattle to that youtube users account too… So you can easily incorporate nationwide monitoring. On just a few simple thread posts.

I like the idea, as it would allow to follow readings over a longer period of time instead of folks shouting from here or there “high reading Today!” every two weeks.

That’s a good idea and if we find alarming levels then we can make it completely public. Maybe a couple rallies showing everyone the truth with undeniable facts. Also we could take the readings to the city if they are high and put pressure on the city to clean it up. Im in!

no need for a new site – me thinks

        There already is safecast.org

They are based in the US. And although currently publishing data from Japan only, as far as I understand, they plan to expand globally – and they already have the technical infrastructure to do so.

And they are looking for volunteers everywhere in the world.

safecast.org sucks… they don’t do it right. their map is unusable, there’s no time dimension, and all the readings use disparate units which make it completely useless.

I was discussing this with a friend in tokyo who does web development and we were thinking of putting together something much better. Should we find the time and energy to do it, we will do it for free, unlike safecast who’s collecting donations and yet can’t seem to put any time into making things coherent.

Also, the east coast as Philly had an increase in infant mortality and high readings in rainwater. I think dispersion is carried by the jet stream. I have access to a geiger counter. The recent hurricane rain which inundated PA was clean concerning radiation.

Thanks for that update! I noticed we had been spared the Jet Stream overhead with some 15 inches of rain from Irene…I’m glad your PA measurements confirm the positioning!
It could have been much worse…North Anna, the works.
But, I think I will wear a ventilator on my next plane flight though….Plus, you can totally notice the icky air when the Jet Stream is hanging around!

Does anyone know if there are regular seasonal patterns we can expect with the Jet Stream???!

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I didn’t think outside air would get into a plane’s cabin while flying. Since the cabin is pressurized, isn’t it basically air tight vis-a-vis the outside? I thought that is why the air system in airplanes recirculates the same internal air (which is why it spreads germs so efficiently). Would particles in the jet stream outside really make their way into the cabin of a plane?

The problem with a 5-hour aeroplane flight high in the stratosphere is that there is less atmosphere above you to absorb gamma rays from space. A face mask would be useless. The aluminium fuselage does not stop these radiation bullets either. A plane with a lead shield thick enough would never get off the ground. So if you must avoid this slight risk, go by Mr Obama’s new bullet train!

When a decent percentage of citizens is either taking readings, or knows someone who is, and those readings continually disagree with the “happy-happy no problems here” readings that are quoted by nuke-boosters, we MAY actually get people to listen.

I agree, that’s a good idea B&B. I know larry andrew-nils already bought a geiger counter, but i wonder if it would be most effective if people in specific areas pooled money to buy one for the area.

I have been talking about going in on a good one (with a probe, and able to measure alpha rad.) with someone else from this site who is in the bay area. But they are expensive. If anyone else in this area wants to pitch in, we could do it together.

I am already sharing mine with this person, which helps because I haven’t had the time to do thorough testing on my own.

Anyone want to go in on this? (SF Bay Area)

Le Figaro’s article on September 13 had these details:

    •Furnace was set at 1,500 degrees Celsius but the metal didn’t completely melt;

•The employee tried to break the molten mass with a crowbar (“barre à mine”).

    Oh boy. Crowbar?

But just as TEPCO has the manual for the outside world and the “real” manual(s) for the workers to follow, breaking the molten metal blob with a crowbar probably is part of the “real” manual at the French plant.

It is funny they would say there was no creditable explination. Its like they forgot there was a explosion. Well atleast they haven’t changed the legal limit on exposure by 10 000 times normal levels like some countries… But it doesn’t surprise me that they lied about the leak its probably a good thing citizens had geiger counters to test cause their goverment surely wouldn’t do it. Let’s all prey there is not a solar storm in the future and have a flare take out the power grid cause they could be fukushima times 400. Maybe goverment leaders will come to their sences but I won’t hold my breath.

    criaad update

Accident of September 12, 2011 on the site of CENTRACO in Marcoule (Gard)
    Note n°6 of the 16/09/11 16:00

“These statements indeed indicated values of background radiation 3 to 8 times higher than the natural background noise, between 14:00 and 17:40, in the south of the site of Marcoule, with a East-West extension of approximately 140 km. This information raised the question of a bond with the dramatic accident which has occurred at the end of the morning of September 12 about the installation CENTRACO which company SOCODEI exploits on the nuclear site of Marcoule. CENTRACO is an installation of treatment of waste slightly radioactive by fusion and incineration.”
“there no were certainly massive rejections of radioactivity at the time of the accident on site CENTRACO, on the other hand one cannot still conclude that there was no radioactive rejection. Indeed official press releases raise more actions of communication than of information in measurement, for example, where 4 days after the accident, it still specify the quantity and the nature of the radionuclides present in the installation and the metal which was in the furnace at the time of the explosion, neither results of the control of the rejections in chimney of the installation, nor the volume activity of the air in and to the immediate vicinity of the installation.”
