Title: Fukushima octopus shipped to Tokyo, Nagoya
Source: NHK
Date: Aug. 1, 2012 – Updated 04:50 UTC (13:50 JST)
Fishermen in Fukushima Prefecture have shipped radiation-free octopus for sale in the Tokyo and Nagoya areas.
Wednesday’s shipment of some 200 kilograms of octopus is the first batch of marine product from waters off Fukushima to hit markets in large Japanese cities after last year’s nuclear disaster at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant.

The octopus shipped to Tokyo will be sold on Thursday at Tsukiji market.
Title: Fukushima seafood traded again on Tokyo’s Tsukiji market
Source: Kyodo
Date: Aug 2, 2012
Seafood caught off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture was traded for the first time at Tokyo’s major Tsukiji fish market on Thursday, following last year’s nuclear disaster at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant.
Auctions were held at the world’s largest fish market for octopus from the prefecture deemed clear of radioactivity and safe. Fukushima fishermen resumed their activities on a trial basis in June.
Octopuses caught off the city of Soma on July 30 fetched prices about 20 percent higher than usual amid a festive atmosphere, with one market participant saying, “I’m so relieved that octopuses from Fukushima have finally become available.”

There has to be certain kind of fatalistic fascination in knowingly eating seafood from the poisoned east coast of Japan. Sayonara octopus lovers!

The first test batch of targeted radiation poisoning has left the shores of the worst nuclear disaster in human history to be sold at market. The individuals involved in this test will be recorded based upon their photo and credit card numbers. Their information will then be stored and tracked for hospital emergencies, and medication purchases. Those who eat this contamination are unknowingly participating in nuclear testing. The largest testing grounds our planet has ever seen.

I hope that there are folks buying this seafood to thoroughly test for contaminants and if found outing the lies to all.

It's easy to produce lower than the true figure.
They either come up with 'safe' figures or measure it but remove the parts that's likely to be highly contaminated e.g. Sr-89/90 in bones, guts etc. Also, if they are only measuring for Cs-134 & 137, what about all the other radionuclides that has been flashed from Fuku? It's all false.
Plus, you can shorten the time of measuring to get the lower reading.
What good if they choose one or two kinds of fish out of 100s? Because water acts as shield, radiation detected in water-rich food are generally lower unless you dry the fish first then Bq will shoot up.
Report Comment
Also, they could have tested 10 batches, and found them all contaminated. This 11th batch "deemed clear of radiation and safe" is the batch they take to market as uncontaminated, with great fanfare. (Next week, after the attention subsides, they will begin to allow a little cesium with the seafood, "but well within safety limits.")
They could be using a handheld geiger counter for testing the seafood. "See, only background radiation detected.". (Handheld geiger counters are useless in testing food for radiation.)
(And, by the way, the 10 batches of contaminated octopus were frozen, packaged, and exported to the United States, which accepts Japanese seafood without testing for radiation. Per an agreement reached with Secretary of State Hilary Clinton.)

Very correct. Yet Japan is just the beginning . . .

The Japanese have long had a fascination with fugu, a fish that is lethally toxic, unless it is prepared properly. Only highly trained chefs are licensed to fix fugu for a restaurant.
People who want to tempt fate for whatever reason would sometimes do so by eating fugu. It was ordered by people ranging from thrill seakers and those depressed to the point of suicide.
Now they have two dishes to choose between. They can order fugu to tempt fate quickly, or they can order Fukushima octopus and live under the sword of Damocles, ready to fall on them at any time.

After more than a year no one has been arrested, no one in charge has resigned or apologized to anyone, and no one cares about anti nuclear protesters. I am not surprised to hear that foodstuffs from Fukushima are being consumed in Japan. The question is, how many of us are also eating radioactive food from elsewhere?
Report Comment
exactly….no one can point the finger of ignorance at the Japanesse, none of us has any idea of the amount of radiation is in our food.
Is food from California free from radiation????
Is food from Washington or Florida or France free from radiation?
We hope it is, but that's all we got…hope.
We have no more certainty of any food from anywhere and we do not have any govermant agencies that are testing and telling!

how are they testing? what are they testing for?
is this to combat the alternative news reports.. suppose this story will hit the msm too! hmmm! carefully crafted news releases from WPP and their friends i suspect.. so the new news strategy is to manufacture a "feel good" story and post it in all main stream outlets.. minimise the protests in case the hydraengia "infection spreads" the japanese arent going to take this story seriously.. the western world will!!

"..Normally, one should not be able to measure any contamination of the seawater.
Radioelements found in Soma, located at more than 40 km to the North of the power plant, come from the Fukushima plant. This pollution has the properties to accumulate in the marine life.
For example, iodine densities in seaweeds can be 1 000 to 10 000 times larger in the seawater. This factor ranges from 10 to 100 in fish and shellfish. Caesium can be 10 to 400 times more concentrated, depending on the species…"

The great excuse of Pu is said that it is so hard to detect. (And if it is released due to a nuke disaster just stop measuring)!!
Is that why MOX is becoming such a wanted fuel for the shills?
Report Comment
Plutonium is not any harder to detect than the other isotopes, with moderate quality testing equipment. It is the plutonium and uranium that provides some of the definitive signatures that allow scientists to determine where the isotopes come from. Just like a serial number, fully traceable.
MOX is desirable because they get weaponized material faster. It burns hotter, and almost none of the NPPs are rated for it, so there is a much higher chance of disaster. But when did that stop anyone?
If you though DU munitions are bad, wait until we start using DP rounds.

anyway the reason for the "smoothover" in my opinion is that the news aggregators that the high frequency traders use is effected when someone on the web says something like

there edf shares have dropped by a nose as i post
and WPP knows this.. they are clever…
so once a month the "happy" stories come out while the rest of the month is used creating interesting propoganda and general BS on war sport politics etc to stop any thought crimes!…

German Ministry of Environment and Nuclear Safety warns Chamber of Commerce of Co-60 contaminated items from India:
- lots of contaminated goods found at borders of Germany, Netherlands, Belgium (seaports)
- stainless steel items like tea boxes, plates, wine coolers,…
- advises testing, gives 500 microBq/gram as highest tolerable dose (according to German law)
- advises importers to adapt contracts, so Indian manufacturers must take back contaminated goods (to sell them elsewhere or at home, BnB thinks)
- letter refers also to the Home Depot tissue boxes.

We must check everything for radiation, not just food…this is madness and I don't blame nuclear unaware people for thinking advice like mine is maddness, cos it is!
India manufactures many products along with China and it is worrying. I believe India bought loads of contaminated (cheap!) aluminium after Chernobyl. Chinese investors have been buying up Japanese forests so who knows 'Made in China' could actually mean raw materials from Japan. Also, many car parts, electricals still comes from Japan, who knows they are made from recycled radioactive metals!!
While geiger counter isn't good for measuring food, it is now an essential item for situation like the above. If it beeps high, chuck it away or send them back to where it came from. Not a good time to work as a package handler for an internationa courier company, postal services or being a baggage handler.
What's scary is that India's experienced powercuts….I hope their emergency generators work cos ones in Japan didn't!!

This seems like the right thread to mention that where I now live, in Eastern Canada, produce that used to be marked "product of California" or "product of Washington State" is sold this year only as "product of USA".
The store clerks/managers claim to know nothing about reasons for a change. Perhaps it's just a bean-counting thing.
As for fish… modern deep-sea fish boats may fill their holds hundreds or even thousands of miles from their home ports. National labels are meaningless in such circumstances, at least for radiation issues. Furthermore, there have been many media stories claiming that approximately half the fish sold is mislabeled as to species! It will keep getting worse, I imagine.
http://www.npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2011/10/25/141682168/a-dna-check-reveals-widespread-fish-mislabeling-in-massachusetts
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2012/04/sushi-frequently-mislabeled-in-restaurants-stores-study-finds.html
One of the ironies is that when you think you may be eating radioactive tuna (say), you may actually be eating a harmless substitute. On the other hand… "white tuna was often actually escolar, a snake mackerel with known diarrheal effects. The fish has been banned in some countries."
I imagine we'll eventually get horror stories about (your favorite food here). I doubt that this is just a "fish story".

"…produce that used to be marked "product of California" or "product of Washington State" is sold this year only as "product of USA"."
The coverup of radiation in our food has begun. Here in the US, more and more products say 'Distributed by', rather than list state or country of origin, in direct violation of food product labeling laws. Clearly our governments are allowing this to happen. Otherwise, there would be a huge legal liability on the part of the labelers.
We have to assume, at this point, everything is contaminated, and purchase accordingly. In Eastern Canada, I'd spend my grocery money at local farmer's markets and butcher shops. It'll cut down on your available variety of foods, but there isn't any alternative.
