Bereaved family of Fukushima woman who committed suicide set to sue TEPCO- 毎日jp(毎日新聞)
Mainichi
May 10, 2012
[...] Along with three other family members, Mikio Watanabe plans to bring the case to the Fukushima District Court on May 18. Watanabe and his family argue that the Fukushima nuclear disaster led his wife, Hamako, to suffer depression and commit suicide at the age of 58. [...]According to the group of lawyers, on the morning of July 1, 2011 Hamako committed suicide by pouring gasoline over her body and setting herself on fire at a garbage incinerator near her house [...]
[...] local government had rented for them in the city of Fukushima.
The couple had taken shelter at their relatives’ homes and gymnasiums in Fukushima Prefecture since March 15, 2011. [...]
[...] Yamakiya district, about 40 kilometers northwest of the crippled Fukushima No. 1 Nuclear Power Plant, where their home was located, was designated as a planned evacuation zone [...]
[...] “Because she was deprived of the basics of life such as her residence and job, she suffered an extremely heavy psychological burden.” [...]

A tragic way to escape a catch 22. Utterly tragic. Here's Mike Adams on this:
http://www.naturalnews.com/035813_Ron_Wyden_Fukushima_radiation.html “[We are all in an] idiotic catch-22, where governments refuse to address a problem that threatens the world unless and until the problem explodes in their faces, at which point it is too late to address it…..Denial will be the harbinger of our ultimate destruction at the hands of "scientists" who promised us life but delivered us unto death.”
Mike will host the Alex Jones show tomorrow 5-11 & interview Arnie.

Another suicide to count as a death attributable to a nuclear accident.
I cannot imagine the stress people such as this woman are under and now her family has the additional stress of her death and in such a horrible way. How many people have to kill themselves in front of government buildings and facilities before it finally gets to those in charge that it has gone to far, the game is over, the lies must end and protecting people must become the priority?

It is sad … but a general amnesty to nuclearists may be required for them to be able to admit their sins unto man … and unto the planet and unto science itself …. prosecutions won't work … (it wasn't the Nazis who staged the Nuremberg show trials …)
This will allow people to come forward who are propping up the EVIL OZ which is the nuclear power industry
Barack!! …. BARACK!! ARE YOU LISTENING???
Repeat after me … ANY GOVERNMENT PROMOTING "SAFE" NUCLEAR POWER POST-FUKUSHIMA WILL LOSE ALL CREDIBILITY WITH THEIR SHEEPLE!!
Off to the nooner …. in peace and love ….

Really, really sad. I can't imagine having to live in a gymnasium for over a year with no end in sight. Tepco, the Japanese government, the nuke industry in general and all those nuke shills out there have a lot to answer for.
Having said that, I have to say that the relentless, merciless fear mongering that some are doing on these sites is not helping those who have already suffered so much. These are innocent people who have families and lives. They don't need to be told over and over again "YOU'RE GONNA DIE!!!!!" "YOU'RE KIDS ARE GONNA DIE!!!!!" by people who are getting a charge out of it.
Hopefully the good people of Japan will be able to relocate. Death is not inevitable, the body does have the ability to renew itself even from radiation exposure. if it is limited. Many people who sent through Hiroshima and Nagasaki went on to live long lives.
Let's have some fellow feeling and not rub salt into their wounds.

@Ron: appreciate your well considered words and we would be well advised in reckless speech. However, I must disagree with the suggestion that things may not end as badly as many are suggesting.
When it comes to radiological poisoning, it would make sense to err on the side minimal exposure. From what we're getting in the reports of the last few months, people from around the world as well as Japan have been (and continue to be) exposed to levels of radiological toxins that exceed previously determined safety limits. And your statement that "…the body does have the ability to renew itself even from radiation exposure." is misleading, at best. We actually don't know what is safe when it comes to radiological exposure. There are so many variables, it's not known nor has it been revealed by the nuclear industries just what is safe, as opposed to what they'll say is safe.
So while I'll join you in asking that we all keep our cool (within public forums) and not foster unproductive panic or anxiety, I cannot advise a laissez faire attitude when it pertains to people's health and our living environment…

speaking of reckless; opening sentence should have read "appreciate your well considered words as we would be well advised against reckless speech."

hi ron understand your viewpoint but there are 350, 000 children in fukushima prefecture (hopefully a bit less by now) who are being TOTTALY ignored.. just like this poor woman!
the facts of the matter are that the children and adults have been exposed.. there is the opposite of evacuation going on…
i believe that the children are at severe risk.. especially from the food that is not being tested adequatley..
in fact, even after 14 months, i find it hard to realise that anyone could treat children as the japanese authorities have !! and the belarus etc authorities too for that matter!
there is a need for us to shout and make known the plight of the people of fukushima..
and the western people who ignored this plea are the ones that should hang there heads in shame IMHO
I WOULD GIVE YOU THE LINK TO MRS MUTOS SPEECH BUT THERE HAS BEEN A COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT ON TOKYOBROWNTABBYS YOU TUBE PAGE BY 3 SEPERATE CLAIMANTS??

tbt had lots of videos of the children of fukushima.. making there own case for evacuation….. should we blame them for unnecessary scare tactics too!! an unfair charge there in my opinion..
the other side use much worse tactics!

It is too much to begin to comprehend. What can we do to help them, Arclight? What can be done??? Where are our REAL leaders of the world, who have compassion and integrity and the GUTS to do something to save them?
The world is taking note, dear leaders, and we will hold you ACCOUNTABLE for endangering our children with your lies, denial and obfuscation of the truth.
And THAT is all I can say for the moment. My heart is too sad for the good people and children of Japan. :-'''(

Hi Ron, You do make a good point. It is a delicate balance between getting the word out about news the MSM is not covering, and a fear mongering over-the-top approach which many may not take seriously, in order to get the message across in the most effective manner.
I personally noticed the headline for this article in the list of articles earlier today, but chose not to click on the link, as I knew pretty much what the article was going to be about. I find I have to shield myself from reading too much such horror stories, as my psyche can only take so much in a day's bad news. Goodness only knows how many similar sad stories are being played out each day in the disaster-stricken zones of Japan. My heart goes out to all who are suffering.
So, as luck would have it, I only arrived on this thread after following a comment from the comments thread.
So I can see both sides of this issue, and would hope the right balance can be struck here. Just like some of the comments about too many exclamation points taking away from the seriousness of the message, too many sensational headlines can have a similar effect and drive readers away, something we don't want to happen, because the content and messages about the ugly truth of nuclear power needs to be heard by the largest number of people possible.
Just my two cents.

People, we are exposed to natural radiation everyday. Over billions of years the body has evolved ways to deal with it and allow people to live relatively long lives. My assumption is that we need a certain amount to function physiologically. Unknown to me is how long we would live without it altogether.
We know that radiation is destructive to DNA. There (should be) no argument about that, but we aren't sure how much ABOVE natural is tolerable. Science says that short-term high dose and long-term low dose can do harm.
I believe that in normal health the body can repair itself from radiological poisoning. This is proved by those who have survived it in the past. There may have been other factors involved that we don't know.
Chernobyl and Fukushima are tragedies that never should have happened. They highlight the inherent dangers in nuclear power. It's a technology that we are definitely NOT ready for. We are not mature enough as a species to know how to handle it, if ever.
The milk has already spilled for those in Japan. Thus it does absolutely NO GOOD to continually scream them, the average citizen, just to make them even more fearful. We have political reasons for doing so, we want the end of nuclear power. But in the meantime we are making them pawns to our politics. As this woman's tragic death shows, there are real consequences to this fear mongering. Do you want that on your conscience?
Push hard to expose nuclear. But don't forget there are real…
Report Comment
@Ron: good stuff! I agree with you. I'd also like to add, that it's theorized that solar burst of radiation are major contributors towards evolutionary surges in species. There's so much that we don't know (or, aren't 'privileged' to know). The real issue is what is safe and under what conditions can it be deemed safe. An analogy might be: we're dead without water; that is, until we're inundated with it. Then we're simply dead from too much of it.
Anyway. Thanks Ron for the excellent response…

Ron, Yes we are exposed to natural radiation everyday but your theory isn't standing up to fool me ;P Perhaps it works for a complete beginner though I am no expert, I didn't spend the past 14 months learning about internal radiation poisoning for nothing.
You reminds me of Allison ;P

What-About-The-Kids, I read your comments on another thread re: conspiracy websites and I found them very thoughtful. I worry about Gundersen appearing on the Alex Jones show. He's going to lose some credibility from that.
The message about nuclear needs to go out to as wide an audience as possible but it needs to be intelligent. You can believe the nuclear apologists are watching and noting.
Report Comment
Thanks for your kind words about my previous comments on the other thread, Ron.
I don't know anything about Alex Jones or his show, other than it is obvious several people here watch it, so I can't comment on it.
However, I could understand your point, that Arnie, in what I believe is his heartfelt attempt to inform as many members of the public about Fukushima, may lose some credibility and respect for appearing on a less mainstream news outlet or on a controversial show, especially among those who tend to value more mainstream news outlets and other media sources.
But personally speaking, after following Arnie's fairewinds.com website for the past year, it is easy to sense his earnestness and integrity and his true desire to be of help. His experience backs up his credibility as well, so thinking persons will not be fooled by those who attempt character assassination to try and shoot the messenger.
The Internet and Social Media Age is a whole new, still forming field, in which we are (often) playing by new rules. So I find those of us from older generations are having to adjust to these new rules…while hoping some of the truly sensible rules of old may be taught and still followed by newer generations.

(continued)…
…We need to teach our youth about such important things as doing due diligence, fact checking, vetting sources, etc., versus blindly following what someone says, without asking questions and using one's critical thinking abilities to separate truth from well-orchestrated and often quite compelling fiction..things we perhaps take for granted, but nevertheless need to be taught, over and over again to our subsequent generations of young people.
Anyway, I think Arnie is still on a learning curve in this regard too.
It is interesting to see what his choices of media outlets on which he's agreed to appear and will be interesting to see if any of that changes in the coming months. (You may remember CNN having him on as a "talking head" expert early on in the Fuku disaster, but they nor any other MSM outlets have interviewed him since, so he has had to use a less mainstream route for getting his message out.)
Whew…enough said! It's been a long day, so signing off here. G'nite.

@StillJill: Though AJ has done much to alert us all over the years, he's also done his best to focus our outrage away from those who are undermining this nation's security. This is classic misdirection; straight out of the psyops field manual. True, AJ's done some great work in waking the people up. I just think he needs to get real as to who the true enemy is and how they've undermined our nation (and world). If he's not willing to do that, then he should step aside and let others who have real courage, carry the banner of the patriot movement…
Must jump now Jill. I can't stay in here any longer. Much work to do. Love you much good lady!!! (couldn't resist throwing some extra exclamations in there)…

Disgusting. Obama has been saying recently that he wants to divert money going to wasteful, larcenous military spending to use at home, a really great idea! How many times over do we need to be able to destroy the world anyway?
So what better way than to spend all that money going to the military on the purchase on clean alternative energy systems for the people, Obama's green economy? I mean, what do Americans really want, solar panels for their homes giving them free energy or yet MORE tanks, bombs and bombers???
Predictably though the Republicans aren't having any of it.
Wish I could curse. How about this?

Right on, Jill! It is Mike Adams who will host the show and who decided to have Arnie on to ask him questions for those of us who can't move south. You better believe this is SCARY (r u listening Ron) given the amount of rad that will reach us if the spent fuel goes. Mike said he will also have an expert on antidotes on the show. I posted this info to TRY TO HELP US ALL–give me a freakin break.
I am not spending my time arguing over Alex Jones or fear mongering or any other trivia when the end of life may be imminent. Like you said, Jill, it's all I can do to keep going from day to day. Our position is like a person whose doctor says "You'll know any time now if your condition is terminal–just hang in there until the tests come in. If they are positive, you'll have to hole up indefinitely…."
And I will make some end of life decisions if need be–AFTER I listen to Arnie and look at my TINY budget for "preparedness"
and antidotes.
Love you Jill. Like you I'm all alone with no family or friends that GET any of this–since the MSN does not cover it it can't be real. But like you I also beliefs that sustain me.
