[...] I don’t think it’s broken though. I don’t know the distance of the nuclear debris and heating gauge, nor the flow of cooling water but I think it’s likely that only one part gets heated.
Only if they haven’t declared cold shutdown, we could treat it in variety of ways as an accident but because Tepco and Japanese government have to keep it lower than 100℃ not to let it deny the state of cold shutdown, knowing it causes additional problems, they are putting boric acid and increasing water amount.

Shouldn’t the cheap bas*ards have been injecting boric acid all along? It’s all about the $$$. Never take your eye off the ball. Here we are talking about a few shekels which would pay for total immersion in(or at least some ???) boric acid.
Wonder if there will be Deeds of Expectancy where investors can purchase Tokyo real estate which will be inhabitable some day in the distant future
Report Comment
Yes and no… boric acid in reactor water has been found to severely corrode many of the steel alloys used in reactor pressure vessels, pipes , and connecting hardware such as bolts. It is a balancing act. They ARE cheap and stingy, they do lie, steal, rig bids to take the taxpayer and ratepayer money, use gangsters to recruit laborers and silence critics, and risk the entire genetic library stored in life on Earth every day. With both water injection and boric acid they should use as little of each as they can. Every gallon of water is a gallon or more of additional rad-waste. Every bit of acid gets them that much closer to additional failures of the precarious patchwork of improvised cooling and broken containments.
Report Comment
What reactor, pipes and bolts? The junk pile with the hole burnt through the bottom? The empty blown beer can? Pour the boric acid down the hole, mix boric acid and sand and pile 200 feet high.

Expert, huh? lol

Either way, what can they do? There is no way to remove the fuel and we don’t really know, for certain, where it is. If something bad is brewing, it will happen and there is no way to stop it.

surely some type of thermal image would show what is going on. You can’t have a boiling reactor with no external sign of heat. At least then they could say if it is hot, or not.

I’m 100% SURE thermal monitoring is taking place. It’s probably classified information.

Nuke lets us down time after time.
It is the most dangerous possible way to boil water.
99 accidents –the ones we know about, the ones that they did not succeed in covering up.
“They” try to cover up everything, until forced to fess up.
Stop nuke now.
Shut them down on accidents, and never let them get back up.
Solar is way way cheaper than nuke. Nuke was a stupid experiment, and it has proven itself time and time again that nuke and human life are incompatible.
Stop in here at the nukepimp (anti-nuke) and drop a comment, great resources here that show just how bad nuke is.

@Admin do you know about March. cant remember.
Report Comment
March. Erin go brah! The month Saint Patrick drove the dragons (serpents) out of Ireland. The nuclear fire has always been associated with the dragon–The Japanese fishing boat irradiated during the Bikini tests was called “Lucky dragon.” The French named their nuclear program “The Dragon Project.” And then the USA repeatedly “bombed” St. George (and the dragon), Utah, aka” “Skull Valley.”
So, the only thing positive to do in March is go down to your local bar and order a Green Dragon. If your bar doesn’t serve them, go home and google “Green Dragon Drink”…and be sure to take a barrell full to the workers at your local NPP!!!
Either we’ll have change or we will…

Dear Still Jill…that may be our main comfort (besides green dragon drink), we are none of us alone. We are all in this together…to live or die together. @Still Jill…I would like to ask you a favor. I posted a very good poem a few days ago, but I don’t think anyone read it, and I’d like to ask you to read it, slowly as if you were reading it out loud. When I was quite young, I did a lot of self promoting, but I’ve rarely indulged myself in that in years. So forgive me here. I think you will like it. I believe it is inspiring. It speaks to the evolutionary imperative which we might have, should have, taken; but I think we are close to having lost the opportunity. Thanks SJ. It’s in the 9 year old author’s blog story, 17th comment at 11:46 pm. If you can’t find it, let me know. Thank you so much.

Wow nice Troll Jousting dude, you really bitch slapped that Troll.
Yeah, thanks eh brah! I couldn’t believe that Pro Nuke Troll was actually saying that radiation can be beneficial to your health. I had to slap ‘em back in case some innocent bystander saw that Troll comment and believed it.

Umbrage with a bullshit legal argument to support Vermont Yankee
In fact, she wants credit where credit is due, uh-huh
Judge Murtha’s decision makes complete sense. His conclusion is straight out of the Federalist Papers. The authority retained by the federal government invalidates any state legislation that conflicts with federal law or authority. So, the NRC’s federal power to regulate safety at nuclear power plants preempts Vermont’s right to legislate a nuclear power plant out of existence.

MY RESPONSE
Bully, the so-called supremacy clause does not take away a State’s or local governments right to exclude certain activities. Just because the Federal Government makes some forms of pornography “legal” does not mean that a State or City must allow all that porn into their shops.
This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any state to the Contrary notwithstanding.

Here is one possibility. Some of the corium still in the reactor is melting through near the thermometer. The closer the corium gets to the thermometer, the higher the temperature reading.

"Only if they haven’t declared cold shutdown, we could treat it in variety of ways"
Did anyone else notice that this worker is pointing out the fact that the spin TEPCO is putting out with respect to the cold shutdown status is bureaucratically holding back workers from doing what is required to properly address the problems that arise.
Its one thing to lie through your teeth to 'keep people calm" its entirely another to lie through your teeth and subsequently hold back staff from doing there job whereby putting them and the rest of us at furhter risk.
It just never ends with this gong show. Much like the GOM disaster. Liability policy making and the supporting lies in the communications plan putting lives of humans and sea creatures at risk.
We have lost all grip on reality and people are so immersed in propaganda to be without a clue.
A lethal mix of apathy, ignorance and aggresive psychopaths are going to spell our collective doom.

Please note…The temperature sensors are not "electronic". They are/were merely measuring the resistance of a RTD (Resistance Temperature Detector.) through two wires remotely.
A 5 dollar multimeter set to measure resistance can do this also through the two wires that are typical for this kind of device from a remote location.
The higher the resistance at the other end, the higher the temperature is. The device itself is pretty indestructible so the reported failure of the device is puzzling.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resistance_thermometer
Bread&Butter…It looks as though our recent exchange matches this thread at Physics.org forum.
They too have discussed the way the sensors were located and the reasons for possible differences in temperature. I have been keeping an eye on their progress on the physics forum ever since Whoopie found the thread the other day.
Here is a small quote at this think tank.
"Is it not equally probable that the sensor is simple near a hot spot, an area of stagnating water flow where fuel may also have accumulated? Given that the interior of the reactor has been seriously damaged, some such development seems more than likely, imho.
TEPCO claims the residual decay heat from the fuel in the reactor is down to about 0.6 megawatts. That will boil a lot of water unless there is really efficient heat transfer, which may be absent given the debris within the trashed reactor."

From EX-SKF
http://www.ex-skf.blogspot.com.au/2012/02/tepco-evening-press-conference-2132012.html
"The last time this particular thermocouple went to that level, it was March 2011.
TEPCO was measuring the electrical resistance of the thermocouple before the temperature suddenly shot up to 285 degrees at 3PM.
Resistance 500 to 530 ohm.
The instrument has totally failed, says TEPCO's Matsumoto.
Interesting question from a reporter from Nico Nico: Are you going to test the other two thermocouples at the bottom of the RPV?
A: No.
Yomiuri: Did measuring the resistance break the thermocouple?
A: We don't know why the temperature shot up after we finished the measurement."
