and I can’t understand why the plug was taken off. I saw the picture but the pipe wasn’t cut. It’s gotten the plug taken off. The nut wasn’t loose. It must have needed a lot of impact stress to take off the plug because it uses hexagon cap nut. I wonder if it was because earthquake or explosion.
I suspect the 8.5tones of leaked water is from a different part of the 6L of leakage. I guess it’s from the valve in dry well. They announced the water is from the jetpomp pipe but the internal diameter is only 6mm. It takes too long to leak 8.5 tones of water.

the nuclear industry uses different types of patches or plugs to temporaily fix leaks.. these temporary repairs have to work until the reactor can be shut down (during a routine procedure.. it saves money)
doesnt mean they are 100 percent infallible though does it? but to one of these workers.. its a surprise.. go figure!! here at enenews
no surprise at all!

6 mm pipe????
That’s not pipe – that’s 1/4 inch tubing. you could leak 6 L of water through 1/4 inch tube easily, however 2500 gallons would take awhile.

More leaks found at crippled Japan nuclear plant
Feb 03, 2012 | Associated Press
TOKYO – Leaks of radioactive water have become more frequent at Japan’s crippled nuclear power plant less than two months after it was declared basically stable.
The problem underlines the continuing challenges facing Tokyo Electric Power Co. as it attempts to keep the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant under control. A massive earthquake and tsunami badly damaged the plant last March, resulting in the melting of three reactor cores.
Workers spotted a leak Friday at a water reprocessing unit which released enough beta rays to cause radiation sickness, TEPCO spokesman Junichi Matsumoto said. He said no one was injured and the leak stopped after bolts were tightened on a tank.
Matsumoto said TEPCO also found that 8.5 tons of radioactive water had leaked earlier in the week after a pipe became detached at Unit 4, one of the plant’s six reactors. The company earlier had estimated …

I can not believe Entergy is being allowed to continue operation of this plant and Indian Point. They continually get flagged by their buddies at the NRC for “Lack of Preventative Maintenance” and only perform it after their is a problem ??

AP Interview: Ukrainian nuclear experts say Japan residents should be able to return home
By Associated Press, Updated: Thursday, February 2, 8:39 AM
TOKYO — Ukrainian nuclear experts say Japanese evacuated from around the stricken Fukushima nuclear plant should be able to return to their homes — unlike the Chernobyl site, which remains inside a wide no-go zone a quarter-century after the accident there.
The public may eventually be able to visit the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant, where three reactor cores melted after a tsunami last March 11 knocked out the cooling systems, Oleg Nasvit, a nuclear physicist and radiation expert at Kiev’s National Institute for Strategic Studies, said in an interview with The Associated Press.
( Koji Sasahara / Associated Press ) – Oleg Nasvit, principal expert of Ukraine’s National Institute for Strategic Studies Environmental and Technogenic Safety Department, right, and Dmytro Bobro, first deputy head of Ukraine’s State Agency for Exclusion Chernobyl NPP Zone Management, speak at each other during an interview with The Associated Press in Tokyo Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012. The Ukrainian nuclear experts said residents of Fukushima who had to flee their homes after the Fukushima nuclear crisis should be able to return home as long as cleanup and close monitoring are ensured. They said such a decision should be based on radiation dose levels rather than distance from the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant, where three of its six reactors suffered meltdowns after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami destroyed power and cooling systems.

TOKYO | Thu Feb 2, 2012 11:57am IST
(Reuters) – More than 8 tonnes of radioactive water leaked from a reactor at Japan’s Fukushima nuclear plant but none reached outside the reactor building, Tokyo Electric Power Co (9501.T) said on Thursday as it strives to ensure damaged reactors are stable enough for work to start on dismantling them.
Experts said the incident, which follows smaller leaks last weekend, is not a big setback to getting the plant under control but the timing is awkward for the government as it strives to win public acceptance for the restart of reactors elsewhere to avoid a summer power crunch.

Someone has been posting at Fukushima Diary in the comments under the name “Kevin.” The individual doing so has used vulgar and offensive language, ranting about “Jews” and what not.
Just a reminder that this person is not me and its a tactic used by, well, you know, that people should be aware of.
