Gauge malfunction causes ‘bad data’ on river level, Lincoln Journal Star, June 20, 2011:
A malfunctioning pressure sensor on a Missouri River gauge near Brownville caused some “bad data” to be posted Sunday about flood conditions on the Missouri River near Brownville. [...]
The data posted by the weather service showed the Missouri River reaching 901.73 feet above sea level at Brownville, which is about three miles north of Cooper Nuclear Station.
Nebraska Public Power District officials are concerned rising flood waters could force them to shut down the nuclear power plant if the river reaches a level of 902 feet above sea level. [...]
The highest reading at Cooper on Sunday was 900.6 feet above sea level, [NPPD spokesman Mark Becker] said.

Knew something was awry, but is this the real story?

It’s just too cheesy to believe… of all the gauges up and down the river..the one at Cooper is faulty…

We can design a nuclear power plant that can operate for decades, but we cannot design a gauge to monitor water levels needed by the nuclear power plant to safely operate. I don’t believe it.

I saw the error right away when it hit the graph Sunday (up 1 foot plus in 15 minutes) but when NWS quickly corrected the ‘latest value’ in the box above, I knew they were just having trouble correcting the graph, which was corrected several hours later.
I saw it as a graph problem, not any issue of substance.

Some Missouri River gauges upstream from COOPER nuclear are acting ‘up’, like Plattsmouth up 1.5 feet in 12 hours and Omaha up 1 foot in 12 hours, looking like the Brownville rise I saw early Sunday morning before the COOPER ‘event notification’ was issued:
http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=oax&gage=ptmn1&view=1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1”
If this is just rainwater and runoff from yesterday’s storm, then a longer 2-3 day rainstorm adding 2-3 feet more over the levees and sandbags could really catch the attention of the FORT CALHOUN and COOPER-Brownville operators.
Report Comment
Plattsmouth was updated and was up .04 feet in last hour, X 24 hours = .96, ie., going up now at 1 foot per day rate.
Other nearby gauges show .5 to .75 feet/day rates of rise. No big deal.
The Missouri River gauges don’t move in unison but can rise or fall independently, apparently as much as 3 feet in 12 or so hours, perhaps from local run-off from regional rains.
Here’s an unusual estimate though for Hamburg for a 4 foot rise in the next 12 hours:
http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=oax&gage=hmbi4&view=1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1”
Will be interesting to see how much, if any, downstream COOPER-Brownville is affected:

Correct: 4 foot rise in the next 24 hours.

Iowa town dry after flood fears cause evacuations
Associated Press
MODALE, Iowa—Told their western Iowa town could be swamped by up to 4 feet of water, residents of tiny Modale pulled out their air conditioners, hauled off refrigerators and made plans to live elsewhere for weeks or even months.
Now, with the Missouri River at its height and the levees holding, many of the 300 residents are asking: Where’s the water?…

Hanford’s adverse atmosphere to safety
http://www.nuclearfreeplanet.org/articles/hanfords-adverse-atmosphere-to-safety.html
The federal agency created to oversee safety at U.S. nuclear complexes says the Hanford nuclear reservation fails to promote a safe work environment.
THE Department of Energy and a primary contractor at the Hanford nuclear reservation are not protecting worker health. The failure threatens to compromise the cleanup mission and, ultimately, protection of the public.
Such a blunt assessment did not come from a disgruntled employee or a union rep, but the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board, created in the wake of past abuses.
Worker health and safety issues have been as persistent a problem at Hanford as technical delays and shredded budgets. The safety board was invented in the absence of state and federal oversight of worker safety.

Bonito Fishing Offshore from N-Crisis Hit Fukushima OK’d

Tokyo, June 21 (Jiji Press)–Japan’s Fisheries Agency said Tuesday it has allowed bonito fishing in waters about 530 kilometers or more east of nuclear crisis-hit Fukushima Prefecture.
WARNING: Do not buy these products!!

Or, buy Pacific canned fish products, caught and canned pre-Fuku, before it’s too late.
I’m still adding long-dated canned tuna (JAN 2016) and salmon (SEP 2016) to my prep supply, and I’m keeping the receipts to show the purchase date, but the time to stop buying may be coming up soon.
It’s costing me too many dollars per month for an AC’d storage unit to keep canned and other storable dry food items and supplies, but I look at it as a term insurance expense: if the 2012 Pacific fish catch is proven or viewed as inedible, or if there is a run on grocery shelves after another Fuku explosive disaster, then my storage expense will have paid off.

Saskatchewan flooding closes portion of Trans-Canada Highway *PIC*
Posted on June 22, 2011
A large portion of the Trans-Canada Highway in eastern Saskatchewan is closed due to flooding.
A stretch of about 150 km — from Whitewood to Balgonie — of the province’s main highway is closed in both directions due to deep water on the road near the village of Sintaluta, located about 85 km east of Regina.
The Saskatchewan government decided to close the highway Monday, when water up to 60 cm deep in some places drowned out the road.
The flooding was caused by heavy rains which fell over the past few days in the already soggy area.
“It’s still raining here. There was quite a bit of water out…
