Taeko Shinonaga, head of Radioanalytical Laboratory at Helmholtz Zentrum Munchen (research institution founded jointly by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Education & Research and Bavaria’s Finance Ministry), scientists from Technische Universitat Munchen (Germany), Verhandlungen der Deutschen Physikalischen Gesellschaft 2013 meeting (emphasis added): Detection of long-lived plutonium isotopes in environmental samples by Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS)Plutonium isotopes 239Pu, 240Pu and 242Pu are anthropogenic radionuclides emitted into the environment by nuclear activities. Pu is accumulated in the human body and hence, poses a considerable hazard to human health. Due to the long half-lives, these isotopes are present in the biosphere on large time scales and a build-up can be expected. Therefore it is important to study the contamination pathway of Pu into the drinking water… a method to detect long-lived Pu isotopes by Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) is being developed. AMS requires only few milligrams of sample material… Consequently, more samples from different locations can be taken which is essential when searching for locally increased Pu concentrations as in the Pacific Ocean after the Fukushima accident… Samples from different locations in the Pacific Ocean and from the snow-hydrosphere are planned…

Scientists from Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and Univ. of Notre Dame, 2014:  Interstitial incorporation of plutonium into a low-dimensional potassium borate… [E]vents such as the catastrophe at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant in Japan [have] resulted in the contamination of large areas of oceans, ground-water, soils, and sediments by actinides, such as uranium and plutonium… migration of actinides [is] an important environmental concern… Knowledge of the incorporation mechanisms of actinides into… natural materials is therefore required… for predicting the migration of radionuclides…

European Commission Joint Research Centre (pdf), 2014: [The Joint Research Centre] is studying emerging safety issues…examining mixed oxide (MOX) properties [and] preparing further severe accident studies on specific aspects of the Fukushima accident [such as] off-vessel fuel-concrete interactions… Japanese Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) selected a JRC-developed method as one of the most suitable approaches to characterise [Fukushima’s] molten fuel… This characterisation is an international obligation during the decommissioning phase, according to IAEA safeguards. Japanese researchers are now developing and optimising the methodology to quantify special nuclear materials in particle-like debris of the molten reactor fuel.

Report: Head of world's largest uranium producer dies, 44
    Mar. 26, 2015
MOSCOW (AP) — Kazakhstan's government-run news agency has reported that the head of the state uranium producer, the world's largest, has died of a heart attack while on a visit to China.

Kazinform news agency said Kazatomprom chairman Nurlan Kapparov, 44, collapsed early Thursday afternoon while having lunch at a restaurant in Beijing.

Kapparov had been at the helm of Kazatomprom, the world's biggest uranium producer by output, since August.

The company said in a statement this month that it produced 22,800 tons of uranium in 2014, equivalent to 40 percent of global output.

Kazakhstan last year signed a deal with China to cooperate on the construction of a nuclear fuel factory in the northern Kazakh city of Ust-Kamenogorsk to supply power plants in China.

SALEM — Who from the public shows up for a safety performance review of the reactors at the second-largest nuclear power generating site in the U.S.?

    No one.

That was the case Wednesday night during an open house held by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to give the public the opportunity to discuss how operations went at the Salem 1, Salem 2 and Hope Creek reactors during 2014.

Along with officials from the NRC and the reactors' operator, PSEG Nuclear, representatives from New Jersey and Delaware environmental agencies were on hand. Just no one showed up to engage with them. …

    • Hmm.
So nobody showed up at the nuke-meeting? (The nuke-SAFETY meeting?)
Did the nukers forget to tell people they were holding a meeting?
Or, are people just tired of being lied to (at)?

Part of me thinks, what is the point of showing up to these nuke-circle-jerks? I mean, it's not like they're going to tell the truth, that all of these reactors release some bad stuff into our environment and have killed a lot of people (and their pets and livestock, too) from cancer…..

Or, perhaps people were there, and they were outside (protesting)> and not everyone has it in them to get arrested by coming inside and dealing with, "off-duty cops". I know those freaks scare me away../

    • I am going to get into their faces in the Midwest later this year.

      Shut down their lies immediately

Feds Try To Clean Uranium Found In Navajo Water

During the Cold War, mining companies extracted four million tons of uranium from Navajo land to make nuclear weapons. Uranium left a deadly legacy. And the federal government is still cleaning up the contamination.

The Department of Energy piled the uranium tailings, the mining waste byproduct, inside lined pits and sealed them with clay. In Monument Valley federal workers have found uranium contamination in the groundwater.

“For years the attitude was science can fix anything,” said April Gil, environmental team lead for the Department of Energy’s Legacy Management. “You just wait long enough, someone will come up with an idea and we’ll be able to put Mother Nature back to the natural state. And we’ve not been able to do that with uranium.”

But Gil says they’re not giving up. …

Expansion of Four Utah Uranium Mines Halted

MOAB, Utah— In response to formal objections by Uranium Watch and other conservation groups, the Manti-La Sal National Forest on Tuesday halted plans to allow the uranium industry to expand the La Sal Mines Complex — a complex of four old uranium mines located in La Sal, Utah.

Citing violations of the National Environmental Policy Act, Endangered Species Act and other laws and regulations, Uranium Watch and four other conservation groups objected to the Forest Service’s draft approval of the plan. The large-scale expansion would include drilling 3,800 new exploration holes, dewatering an estimated 50 springs and a surface disturbance of more than 200 acres. The mines threaten radiological and heavy metal pollution of groundwater, soil, and air, putting wildlife and people at risk.

According to Sarah Fields, Uranium Watch program director: “The continued operation of the La Sal Mines Complex will cause increasing emissions of radon gas, a radioactive hazardous air pollutant, into the community. The USFS cannot claim that radon emissions only a quarter-mile from the La Sal Elementary School are safe.”

“Federal law requires that significant threats to human health and the environment posed by uranium mining be very carefully reviewed,” said Roger Flynn, attorney with the Western Mining Action Project, which represented Uranium…

    • rogerthat

Uranium Watch and other conservation groups in the case. “The Regional Office correctly determined that these mines cannot be approved without a much more comprehensive review, including the addition of required protective measures to safeguard the public.”

“The La Sal complex mines have a long and troubled history of neglect, safety violations and excessive impacts to human health and the environment,” said Jennifer Thurston, director of INFORM. “It is encouraging that the Forest Service will be taking a much closer look at these impacts in the next round. I hope we will eventually have a plan for these mines that provides more protection for residents, miners and the environment.”

Uranium ore mined from the La Sal Mines Complex will be trucked to the White Mesa Mill in San Juan County, Utah. In early 2014 the Grand Canyon Trust sued the owners of the White Mesa Mill for numerous violations of the Clean Air Act.

“Until the mill corrects its violations of laws designed to protect public and environmental health, the federal government should not allow the mill to receive and process new uranium shipments such as this one from the La Sal Mines Complex,” said Anne Mariah Tapp, energy program director for the Grand Canyon Trust.

Like thousands of uranium mines across the Four Corners region, the La Sal Mines Complex has been operating intermittently since the 1970s — opening and closing in response to uranium’s boom and bust cycle. …

Uranium has been in the ground since when the earth was formed. Its responsible for heating up the earths core. Without uranium this planet could not function. All mining is hazardous. Your cancer risk model is not accurate. Radon is emitted from coal deposits as well. There is tramp uranium in most geological formations.

        • Nice theory, but then why isn't all lava deadly radioactive like corium inside of Fukushima?

There is more to this than some theory; there is real life and what happens to uranium miners compared to copper miners for example.

Is there a fund to compensate copper miners for harm caused by radiation? No, didn't think so.

This is not MY cancer risk model.

Just because there is natural radiation, does not mean it is all harmless, as Ann Coulter likes to claim with the quack pro nuclear industry hormesis theory.

        • Uranium that's undergone fission has not been, "in the ground", for however long, though, MetalTurd. Why must you continue these silly games?
Do you not understand the difference between, say, uranium (in the ground and dug up out of the ground) and, what they CALL depleted-uranium? Go to Fallujah and see what DU has done to the offspring, there. Then say there's no problem with uranium.

Or, better yet, just zip it.

          • Angela_R

"Do you not understand the difference between, say, uranium (in the ground and dug up out of the ground) and, what they CALL depleted-uranium?"

Congratulations AnneBeck, for this is a point that far too many people fail to understand. Uranium in the ground, is found only as an ore, and also has a COMPLETE nucleus. Reactor used uranium, is like the chook with its head chopped off…..frenetic and frantic.

            • I didn't see this months back, Angela. Your description of DU is very appropriate. Too bad Mr Pro-Nuke will never get it, and he's out in the world (in these internets) lying to the kids about all of it, too.

I would suggest that a lot of enenewers should seek out World War 2 vets and ask them a few questions. My father was a WW2 vet in the 4th armed tank battalion under General Patton and told me that after WW2, the army had so much extra amour that they dumped new equipment right into the Atlantic Ocean. So much for the defense industries. Then on to prolonging the War…He was put into counter-intelligence to find out what was happening to the fuel to supply the tanks. The ammo was coming through, but no fuel and Patton was screaming day after day for it- to keep the Germans on the run. This was just before the G setup for the Battle of the Bludge (spelling?). Anyway, he went back tracing the supply line and even was purposely put in the Brig for a week to see if he could get any info there, which he didn't. Going into France, he went to the port and saw all those freighters anchored in the harbor. He asked a sailor on guard what was in those ships. The sailor said fuel. My dad said why aren't they unloading it, because we need it in the front lines. The sailor said Eisenhower orders not to unload for another week…This is true or God can strike me dead, I swear.

Mar. 27 First News: Experts Pinpoint Cause Of 2014 WIPP Radiation Release (Listen)

Experts from national laboratories around the country have determined that an incompatible cocktail of nitrate salts and organic cat litter is to blame for a mishap that forced the closure of the nation's only underground nuclear waste repository. Report: Mix of cat litter, salts caused WIPP mishap
      By Susan Montoya Bryan
      Associated Press

… There are other containers at WIPP that include similar mixtures of chemicals.

"We are reviewing the report and its findings now as we continue working to mitigate the risks of this happening again," the DOE said in a statement issued Thursday. "Additional precautions have also been taken to secure other drums with similar nitrate and organic materials as those identified in the report." …

Using modeling, chemical analyses and other methods, the team considered the possibility that something outside the container caused it to breach, such as a reaction between water and magnesium or reduced ventilation that resulted after a fire at WIPP. But the evidence pointed to the reaction happening inside the drum.

The team said its investigation was hampered by limited and inconsistent documentation regarding the way Los Alamos processed the waste and because access to the drum in question was limited due to safety concerns. …

      – so that's all right then…

  • Well folks, I just swallowed my distaste of jumping through more internet visibility hoops and registered with discus so I could post a comment at Japantimes. I see dosdos is already there. 🙂 Sweet! Here's mine:

I am so angry regarding the permanent damage the nuclear industries have wrought upon our planet and all of it's unsuspecting life forms. Cancers and other ailments are escalating side by side with the increasing levels of *supposedly safe* radiation ever since the nuclear boys first began playing with their deadly toys over 70 years ago. Chernobyl certainly got our attention, but Fukushima is the latest straw that finally breaks the camel's back and should be jarring us into awareness.

Man made radiation from the 3 meltdowns, that Tepco has no ability to stop, is STILL pouring into the Pacific daily, adding documented amounts of deadly radiation to an already massively polluted ocean. Food chains are being destroyed! Species, from the smallest bottom level phytoplankton up to the larger fish and mammals, are rapidly diminishing as radiation rapidly bio-accumulates in all life forms.

There is NO safe place on earth to store nuclear waste that has half lives into
hundreds of thousands of years. Think about it! WIPP in the USA only made it for 15 years. Plus, it's a documented fact that the Yucca Flats geology was officially declared by consultants to be a dangerous location, unstable and unusable even before construction began.

    • 🙂 It's well past time to end this madness that only puts money in the pockets of people who profit from nuclear related industries at our expense! It's not a secret that man made radiation causes genetic mutations at cellular levels and once it's re-circulating in the air, water and life forms, it is FOREVER, being absorbed by we humans too. Now, the big question is… who of our generations of innocent offspring will be cursed with babysitting the life destroying nuclear waste mess they inherit!

OK, now I'm going outside to water my seedlings and change my mood into one of hope and intent to be constructive with things closer to home and my own physical agenda. 🙂

Contrary to what ShitBeard says, PU 241 is one of the most common components of the spent fuel at Fukushima.

    2944 Kilograms of Pu 241

I reviewed your site and you spent a lot of time on it. Much of your technical assumptions are too general and overly conservative. Many national labs independently have carried out analyses contradicting your claims. Your site is only good to stir up antinuclear sentiment and is no good for policy analysis. But its your site and you can say whatever you want. I'm just saying that sadly its not usable in its current form outside antinuclear. Not in a court of law, not in government policy analysis, not in private research for teaching in schools. I'm disappointed because I wanted and expected more from a trained engineer who is supposedly logical and rational. But then again the site is used by antinukes so the confusion will continue. In that vein you've done well to flame fear and increase hatred of people. I just don't get why you are so angry to need to rant in this manner.

I've seen many Fukushima blog sites. One of the best from a technical content POV is the Hiroshima Syndrome site. The technical content alone far surpasses nuke pro. I'm just offering my personal opinion on the technical merits alone. I can cut through the rants, but at its very core the underlying message or the takeaway is that you just spent four years of your life just tilting at a giant windmill. I wish you well and hope you see the futility of your chosen tactics. At least AGR doesn't spew the kind of invective seen at nuke pro. Are you really that insecure that you have to call people you disagree names then try to hunt down and identify them? I sadly have to agree there is a little underhandedness going on here. Just give it a rest. This place may be safe haven for you but you surely do not want kharma hitting you. This is the second day of my posting. I have never conversed with you. While I appreciate the fact that you feel the need to give me advice it would be ill advised for me or anyone for that matter to take advice from someone who believes in some of what you believe to be true. Anyone that truly lives that way is missing out on life. I don't plan to spend my life in constant fear over issues that have now been shown not to be what you claim. As far as my choice of work, as with anyone else's choice, is what the good Lord called me to do. Life is too short. A hundred years tops. We want to leave the planet in better shape for our children their children and so on. You can either be in curmudgeon mode or you can actively participate. Your choice.

You have been here before, as I recognize your brain, logic and thinking patterns. Which I do not approve of and why I gave you the advice I did.

I think it has to do with my grasp of the Force. 🙂

I can guarantee it/the end result if we do not change course immediately and shut all this Nuclear Technology down.

Are those pictures the neighbors you want to see living next door in the future?

Are you ready for your great grand children to look in the mirror and see those same images staring back at them?

Off course those barrels are not real, neither are the persons in the video speaking out, sighting documents and making measurements real. It's all holographic projections put there by the aliens from Niburu with a little help from Greenpeace and the Treemasons – at least that would be a good explanation if you love conspiracy theories and have an allergy against physical evidence and facts.

" Your kind continue to put the US standard of living at risk."?
Garbage. There is no living on a dead planet. Fukushima MAY kill the planet, given 100 years or less: total reproductive failure, failure of chlorophyll, mutated microbes causing pandemics, so many choices.
But if Fukushima doesn't do it, the next one will seal the deal. And the next one. And the next one. FYI: I've lived in a house without wires, not even solar, for 40 years. My standard of living was just fine. Until Fuku.

    • Metalbeard Metalbeard

I have to disagree on many points. I have no reference frame for others you may have issues but this is by far not a dead planet. In reading the latest news, it would appear that you believe Fukushima is the end of humanity. I'm having difficulty finding evidence to support your position. Even 35 yes after TMI the effects of nuclear fallout from these mishaps have been greatly exaggerated. The nuclear era is almost 80 years old and the planet and humanity are no worse for the wear. More radiation was put in the atmosphere from Kushtym and people are still here. Life will continue here.

      • obewanspeaks obewanspeaks

You certainly do not understand bioaccumulation as a concept and that is very sad. A/the tipping point may be reached simply from this latest Fukushima disaster that you say the event is a no worries.

Once the food chains start to collapse the rest of modern civilization will follow suit. 🙁

The Nuclear damage being done is now accumulative based simply on the increased back ground readings being documented by the NRC since the start of the this fiasco in 1945.

You are not a God and you should get that whole line of thinking out of your head.. 🙂

        Throw it away!

        • Metalbeard Metalbeard

I understand bio accumulation as a concept and a reality. I eat Pacific seafood with no fear. Can you say the same? I say no fear because I know from science that the fallout from Fukushima was not severe as you would think to take caution and not eat anything. By your premise if you believed bio accumulation were an issue then why stop at seafood. Knowing the reality of the consequences of the fallout I am free to eat whatever I go to restaurants and stores without fear of any radiation consequence. The toxicity of it all was neglible. I'm wondering with your position how are you able to eat anything? Must be a hassle to lug a pancake GM or other instrument to the store and secretly survey your food. I'm sure people had their opinion seeing some old guy scurrying about thinking everyone is doomed.

          • obewanspeaks obewanspeaks

Once again have no clue what the hell you talking about.. and are clueless to all the results being documented worldwide, and yes, your Nuclear Crap is now sadly in everything and not just the fish.

I will repeat your Nuclear crap is now in everything to a degree and what you foolish non professionals do not realize is that you have been lucky for several reasons. 70% of the world is covered in water and only 30% is land mass and everywhere your Nuclear Crap has landed has caused pain suffering and diseases/cancers/deformities and blighted land. Now, since there are so few humans on this planet which are now crowded into cities with large amounts of the current land mass not actually inhabited the Nuclear death caused numbers have been relatively low.

But generational damage is now showing up in the populations that were exposed to your Nuclear poisons and the more poison distribution allowed the more chance of these unwanted pushed on encounters in the environment and ecosystems for all humans and other biological exposed during their travels.

This is what ongoing bioaccumulation guarantees and your/our luck is going to run out and then you will not be able to make enough of those sick people pink ribbons to go around. 🙁

Note I did not specifically call you a name by saying "people". When you use second person personal, or " you" then you direct the name to me. People here are now, on the second day of my presence, reverting to name calling. I can take some of it, but some are just plain nasty. How is that for your brotherhood of man?

It is an incontrovertible truth that the nuclear industry gambles the entire earth with their poison. A gambling bet they make while having no storage for the mounting tons of waste, enough to kill all things on a thousand earths. This is an uncontested truth, not hyperbole!

Expose this folly to the people who yet have some common sense and connection to the earth, sun, sky and sea. The hydra of denial and ignorance and manipulation will keep rearing its many heads. Stay the course!

socref/ Metalbeard, you would like to think our response is 'fear based'. It is anger. Anger at the slow burn destruction of all biological life on this planet. Do you know how you can tell that total reproductive failure has occured? You can't. Once that failure is locked in and becomes obvious to the morons in charge it's much, much too late to do anything about it. Genome destruction is unforgiving. No do overs.
It's anger not fear, see the difference? Anger like a mother.

People think they are the only one to feel empathy. The difference is I am not running around stating it was definitely radiation and nothing else. This individual never received a large acute dose and lived to almost 80. There are abomb survivors that have lived longer. Radiation in ultra low doses around microSv/hr have not been proven harmful. No slogans please.

The seemingly supernatural magic of quantum theory, ridiculed by Einstein himself, eventually found its vindication in transistors and a host of other practical demonstrations.

Today, some scientists complain that theorists have ventured into a realm so remote from what can be verified that physics is in danger of reverting to something like cabalistic mysticism. Well, for me personally, I think what's worse here is beat up on each other. Trolls are going to be here and they're going to pique individual demands for response. It's quite another to be going 'round and 'round again over issues that persist between each other. Hey, I don't mind the comment strays and isn't dry emotionally dry. At times its ridiculous and, as others observe, too, isn't much (and maybe any) different than the current resident of the troll-niche. Most of us have been here a while and we know what will irritate another individual or the general community that it shouldn't start to begin with most times, and at others should be over quickly. Let's get it together on both sides of those persistent issues.

    • Metalbeard Metalbeard

Incorrect. How do you figure someone is being paid to post. Most physicians, scientists, educators, engineers, and other professions are not extreme in their views as some here. I came this site to offer an alternate hypothesis to the pu241 in the atmosphere. What showed up as expected was the cavalcade of extremists with their name calling, intimidation and bullying tactics. Some of you are OK, others are disgusting. I would expect this reflects an accurate cross section of this demographic. You all should be proud of yourself for this bad behavior.

    • Cisco, but trolls do have a way of bringing lurkers out of the fog and into true activism.

So in a way the occasional troll helps the anti nuke cause and also validates the effectiveness of ENENEWS, even if I despise them.

      • Metalbeard Metalbeard

You should not despise anyone for posing alternate hypothesis to your hypothesis. Its all about examining the infomation presented here. The only way to objectively examine an issue is to leave ideology and ego at the door. I've only responded to this topic and feel I can explain some of anomalies in the data. Data expressed in Bq units are meant to imply large doses. Micro Curies don't seem as frightening. My assertion is that one cannot back track source term without considering time. Its been four years for Fukushima and almost 30 years since Chernobyl. There is enough Pu241 in the air from many sources and to attribute all of it to Fukushima 3 doesn't explain why activities to defuel the SFP would occur of many believe all up in the atmosphere.

        • Jebus Jebus

But your view on that is that the sum of all that is ok.

The result is not, and you know it. Thats why you are here…

Metalbeard claims to be a scientific voice of reason, yet ignores the science data. The same is true for the nuclear industry at large.

Instead of a continued stream of empty assurances nuclear is safe and poisonous releases are small, why not stick with and analyze facts?

It is undisputed that Fukushima released enough heavy metal poison to kill untold millions of animals, leaving a large uninhabitable region. Four destroyed nuke plants continue to spill large amounts of deadly toxin into the environment and one scientific study shows orca will have bio accumulated morbid radiation levels within a few short years. Thats the factual starting point.

Now parse this paper, since you dispute Pu241 and Am241 was discharged at high levels, and is surely contributing to the 45% of birds and animals having genetic damage shown in studies.

in 30 years, Cesium 137 levels in canadian killer whales will exceed 1,000 becquerels per kilogram— 10 times the Japanese guideline for food. (based on levels of Cesium 137 of 0.5 becquerels per cubic meter, 1/8 of what has already been measured offshore) 1000 to 8000 Bq/kg of heavy metal nuclear fallout is a morbid level, all but assuring the orca are doomed to extinction.

          • CodeShutdown CodeShutdown

Its either a lie or psychotic denial that Fukushima has had low levels of emissions, is under control and is not harming anything.

Fukushima fallout is not only 3.7 times bigger than Chernobyl; but, more importantly, 28.3 times more radiotoxic with every breath you take.

cesium-137 is 12 million times more radioactive than natural potassium-40 per gram.
Highly-radioactive fission products such as Cesium-137 and Strontium-90 emit 10 to 20 million times more radiation per unit volume than does Potassium-40. Not only is nuclear fallout many millions of times more toxic than the background radiation from postassium40, it is also a heavy metal poison and accumulates in specific organs. This is why its absurd to compare deadly nuclear fallout to background radiation, the standard ploy of the nuclear cabal.

Gasser, wait! Im riding as fast as I can, but not getting anywhere!

Code, your posts always describes Fukushima as much less lethal than the truth. As far as actual codes and fuel Fukushima is 50 times worse than Chernobyl and this does not count reactors 5 and 6 a Fukushima Daiichi, not all the other reactor meltdowns throught Japan.

Then plutonium is 2,000,000 times more lethal than uranium and Fukushima with finely ground MOX containing finely ground plutonium which detonated in a nuclear detonation has spew 429 lethal doses of radiation for each of the 7.5 billion people on the planet.

Because of all the plutonium, Fukushima is 1000s of times worse than Chernobyl.

30 years from now the whales will have all died, o the amount of cesium bio-accumulated is a moot point. Most or the plant and marine animals are already dead in the Pacific Ocean, and what is lest is already too radioactive to eat.

WIPP and Hanford has shown us that nuclear waste cannot even be stored for 5 years. And who is going to pay for all the destruction from exploded and leaking casks?

                    • Dr. Anne Lee Tomlinson Maziar PraisingTruth

                      Dr Michio Kaku, theoretical physicist:
“…Note that the lethality of radioactive reactor cores goes up the first 250,000 years they are out of the reactor – not down.
“Looking at the current Japanese meltdown as more than 50 Chernobyls is just the start. In addition, the fate of the four nearby reactors at Fukushima Daini is as yet unknown by the outside world. Working at the nearby reactors, only 10 km (6 miles away) is a quick, painful death sentence. They are inside the mandatory evacuation zone.
“This much is known. All radioactive exposures are cumulative for each human, animal and plant. What’s more, mutated genetic codes are passed on to offspring forever. This means all Japanese and all Northern Hemisphere inhabitants are suffering internal radioactive contamination from Fukushima Daiichi reactors already….”

PT, you state "Up to 1,000,000 sieverts per hour outside Fukushima Unit 1 containment vessel"

Japan is the only country I know that measures in NANO Sieverts. Surely you would have queried this reading…

If the reading was 1,000,000 nano Sieverts per hour, that is equivalent to 0.001 Sieverts.

Please clarify, was the reading 1,000,000 Sieverts or was it nano Sieverts, milli Sieverts or micro sieverts?

and metalbeard, irrespective, the reading would be far too high.

PT, you have spoken of being a translator, so surely, if you understand anything about nuclear chemistry, you would realize the importance of accurancy in these measurements…..

                    • Dr. Anne Lee Tomlinson Maziar PraisingTruth

Angela, what you are referring to, 1,000,000 Sv/hr is the title of a headline and I gave you the link to that headline which gives the reference to a TEPCO handout and a link to a Arnie Gundersen video.

Please check the links and read for yourself the TEPCO handout. The severity of the radiation at Fukushima cannot be minimized and according to Michio Kaku the lethality of this radiation will be increasingly greater for the next 250,000 years.

The cores are in the ground and this lethality is being released into the ocean. There is no way to stop this which is why everything is dying in the ocean and the Pacific is warming and warming the entire planet. The scientific community should make clear that the heat from radioactive decay on land and in the ocean and in the ground will continue to heat the planet and kill off all species. The the ground this will heat the core of the earth which is why there is increasing activity from volcanoes.

It won't need to be borated since its a fast neutron system and deeply subcritical. Putting boron in a subcritical fast system would be nonconservative since the atomic number of boron -4 is light and will moderate neutrons. Neutrons that slow down can cause fast fission in u235 and 238u and thermal fission from spontaneous fission neutrons. I nlike the reannealing concept and will look into it more.

Its highly unlikely any corium went to far. Corium which contains highly dense fuel/clad is twice as dense as lead and 6 times as dense as concrete. Its probably still in the vessel but this being a vintage plant could have migrated through control rod drive pennetrations. Of metal slag cools slow it will anneal in place. The only way to move it would be to anneal it back to the original temperature. I would wait 5 years to let corium radioactivity settle to the zero potential energy level. Plus radiation intensity in gamma/sec will be no greater than spent fuel. This operation would be no different than recovering slag steel in a mill. Just radioactive so maybe robots and drones can do the majority of the ops.

In the 1990s we used and demonstrated pyroprocessing actines back in the reactor. It was so good that Clinton had the ear of nonproliferation zealots like Frank von hippel and hazel o Leary shut it down. 20 years later the reports were found in South Korea and now they are demonstrating it. There are some burner reactors that scare the IEER to write negative press without really knowing. I challenged Arjun and he could not answer only to pull out unrelated concerns with older sodium reactors. A lead bismuth reactor can consume actinides as would an accelerator spallation neutron source. Leslie DeWan has a concept burner reactor. Venture capitalists already have pumped in 100 million. The next ,10 years will be important for developing actinode burners. South Korea will have the first reactor pyroprocess.China and Russia might be in it too. The missing participant will be the US.
