High Radiation Right Next to Children’s Swimming Pool in Kawasaki City, EX-SKF, August 19, 2011:
From Kanagawa Shinbun local site [Translation] (8/18/2011):
Kawasaki City announced it measured 0.90 microsievert/hour at the side of the swimming pool in Hirama Park in Kamihirama, Nakahara-ku (special ward), exceeding the target level of 0.19 microsievert/hour set by the Ministry of Education and Science. [...]
The city collected the dirt from the location to have it analyzed, and 12,400 becquerels/kg of radioactive cesium was found. [...]
The location where the high radiation was measured is right next to the building in which the dressing rooms for the swimming pool users are located. [...]
The citizen volunteer group “Peace and Smile Project Kawasaki” measured the near-surface radiation in this area on August 14, which measured 0.50 microsievert/hour at 5 centimeters off the ground. The group alerted the city. When the city measured the same area on August 15, it was 0.66 microsievert/hour (5 centimeters off the ground), and it was 0.90 microsievert/hour on August 18. [...]
The park management says, “We don’t know why the radiation is so high in this area”. [...]

Au revoir, Tokyo.
For the next few thousand years.

Who would have ever thought that Japan would have purposefully allowed themselves to be nuked again by none other than themselves this time, especially after what happened to them in 1945. Although both times there were clear warnings seen, in neither case was there any significant evacuation. Grim.

Perhaps they can resurrect Tokyo Rose to play music and cheer the populace up.

Darth, Although you are now in light, at times you cross back over to the dark-side!
(Just a bit levity on this Friday evening in ever increasing radiation-saturated world. Now, for my next kelp capsule and my next scheduled Geiger counter scan. All is clear in Montana so far by my reckoning.)

Westcoastgirl when do expect your geiger counter will arrive? I would very much like to assist you in bay area tests and film the results…
lets talk.

Hi, and thank you, I’m glad I noticed this. I just got it regular mail, free shipping. I would have maybe gotten it faster if I had seen the latest news reports, though!
Anyway, it said between 6-11 business days, although I have found most stuff I order comes sooner than later. I think filming it would be great. If we get some higher readings we could do a documentary.
I am planning to take a short trip to Arizona in October also. I plan on taking readings everywhere I go.
I will email you promptly, and let you know when I get the geiger counter.

It says it’s expected between the 24th to the 31st of August.

sounds like the fallout is now collecting in Tokyo.
So much for a world capitol. I guess the benefit is they will save a lot in lighting costs.

from the same article….so in june 0.17 mcsievert and now from august we see an increase in contamination….the wind is now going south… it would be useful to get some readings from the wildlife reserves north of tokyo to find out if this contamination is creeping or if its dropping in hotspots, also how far the mass of contaminated mist/air will extend…if we follow the same pattern as wwhen it was blowing north we might expect the edge of serious contamination to reach maybe 120 km with hotspots within it??
“The city park Coordination Division has done “as for the cause the radiation dose of this place being high you do not understand”, that.
City being 447 places such as park and school of the city in June, measured the radiation dose, but, the highest value being 0.17 micro sieverts, in each case had been less than set point.”

Westcoastgirl you’re awesome. My other half won’t let me get a geiger counter until I learn to get hold of my emotions lol.
@Oaktownmeltown I was born in Highland Hospital many, many moons ago
I have access to a filmmaker as well if you need her.
My yahoo email is the same as my sign-in name.

I’ll send you an email, too. Are you in the bay area? I would love to get together with some of the people on this site. Maybe we could do some kind of a documentary or something…if we all survive this.
Oaktownmeltdown, I sent you one; if you somehow don’t get it (happens sometimes),let me know here.

Peace of mind knowing if the rain water and fresh foods are ok. I worry about the organic milk because my family insists that it’s safe to drink.(stupid government won’t test more frequently) Again thanks, and if anyone has info on the current bay area readings of our environment and local produce would be appreciated.
Report comment
I will be happy to do that, and I also invite anyone in this area to get involved, especially if I find any high readings.
