(Subscription Only) Title: Radioactive strontium from Fukushima disaster found in 10 prefectures
Source: THE ASAHI SHIMBUN
Author: This article was compiled from reports by Hiroshi Ishizuka, Yuri Oiwa and Akiko Okazaki.
Date: July 25, 2012
Radioactive strontium-90 from the crippled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant has been detected for the first time in 10 prefectures outside Miyagi and Fukushima, the science ministry said July 24.The highest reading was in Ibaraki Prefecture and nearly matched the maximum level of strontium-90 recorded in Japan following the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. The nine other prefectures are Iwate, Akita, Yamagata, Tochigi, Gunma, Saitama, Chiba, Tokyo and Kanagawa.
[...]
The latest measurements were part of the science ministry’s release of data on the concentrations of strontium-90 in monthly dust deposits collected in outdoor receptacles at measurement stations in all 47 prefectures between April 2010 and December 2011.
Data was unavailable for Miyagi Prefecture because the tsunami that triggered the nuclear accident on March 11 last year also destroyed the measurement station. In Fukushima Prefecture, the ministry’s analysis was obstructed because the measurement station is located within the no-entry zone around the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant.

“Adding 6 becquerels of strontium a month on top of that is not likely to have a major impact,” [Shunichi Hisamatsu, director of the Department of Radioecology at the Institute for Environmental Sciences] said.
Hisamatsu says “no major impact” is likely from those levels of strontium. Though he does not mention the numbers don’t include any measurements for Fukushima Prefecture.

aaaaaaargh it is so sick, no immediate danger to health etc

There IS an IMPACT! For a long time.
I would say that the following statement, "…is not likely to have a major impact”, said by Shunichi Hisamatsu, is at least a somewhat stronger statement than, "…it's of no immediate concern".
What does, "…is not likely to have a major impact”, actually mean?
Well… what that says to me is there IS an IMPACT and there is a chance, in his opinion, that it won't be a 'major' one.
('is not likely' – no odds specified on those chances)
((( 16 months, 14 days ? )))

like we said, japan is toast. news gets worse all the time, no bouncing back from this.

just wait until they give the plutonium and mox counts.

Strontium-90: half life is 28 years. Seeks bone tissues….

So the Japanese have "No Data" for fukushima, as usual…..

just to confirm this headline is bollocks (as my dear old 97 year old granny used to say, while cheating at cards)
the correct soil sampling was done in fukushima and myagi and only a 1 meter above ground sampling done in the other prefectures.. you have to get right on strontium to measure it.. and its in the ground, probably quite deep after 2 snowfalls and percipitation..
IN FACT THE TITLE SHOULD READ
only proper sampling was done in myagi and fukushima (unlikely proper in the true sense of the word imo) and then the guy was messing around and forgot to check the soil.. easy mistake..
just to clear that point up!

wasnt my granny BAD??

Again the report is citing data from the period April 2010 to December 2011. Pardon my French, but WTF is the data for the last 3 months!!! You would think with 4 destroyed reactors spewing their radioactive death into the environment, Japan might put a higher priority on collecting more recent data and releasing the info to the public so they can attempt to protect themselves.
But of course, we know the answer why. If the full truth were revealed, there would be revolution and mass execution of the politicians and Tepgov executives.
So instead, we get the drip, drip, drip release of partial information, to acclimate us to life in a radioactive world.
On an unrelated note, I've been a regular reader and occasional blogger since 311. So many of the most passionate enenews bloggers seem to have disappeared. I wanted to wish them well. I understand the burnout in the face of unrelenting stupidity and evil as we head off the nuclear and environmental cliff.

"…drip release of partial information, to acclimate us to life in a radioactive world." – nohobear
I do not want to become 'acclimated' to suffering.
I do not want to be 'assimilated' into a radioactive contaminated world.
So what's the choice?
I guess there really isn't one anymore.
…and there you have it.
Our freedom to 'choose' clean air, water and food has been taken away.
A person can live life without electricity. However, nobody can live life without clean air and water. Neither can anything else.

After review of past threads you will find it was the elimination of God that ran so many off…The burn out thing…it does exist but in a very small way. I don't disagree with this standard of no religion but others were very offended. A couple of newbies showed up, didn't like god and ran off many of the more passionate bloggers to take their info elswhere. Personally, if I didn't care for god, I would just ignore those posts, but others here, that are left, objected stongly to the use of anything religious.

It's a matter of perspective Tumrgrwer. If the posts here were filled with arguments about religion and/or political beliefs it's going to run off people who are here for the nuke info.
Plenty of places to spout off about religious belief or political leanings. Why do it here?
Go take a look at Prison Planet. Look at the comments on their stories.
Think that makes them look sane? Even partially rational?
Nope. Makes 'em look like a bunch of nutjobs. Running around screaming about the Jooooos taking over the world. You don't want that here.

Isn't this site about energy/nuclear issues?

If someone can't deal with that and must interject religion into everything goes because they cant make offtopic comments then so be it. Who are these bloggers that left anyway?
