Title: In growing lawsuit, servicemembers fault TEPCO for radiation-related illnesses
Source: Stars and Stripes
Author: Matthew M. Burke
Date: July 15, 2013

Five months after participating in humanitarian operations for the March 11, 2011, earthquake and tsunami that led to nuclear disaster in Japan, Petty Officer 3rd Class Daniel Hair’s body began to betray him.

He had sharp hip pains, constant scabbing in his nose, back pain, memory loss, severe anxiety and a constant high-pitch ringing in his ears as his immune system began to attack his body. The diagnosis, he said, was a genetic immune system disease, which on X-rays looked to have made his hip joint jagged and his spine arthritic. [...]

Other servicemembers have been diagnosed with leukemia, testicular cancer and thyroid problems or experienced rectal and gynecological bleeding, the lawsuit says. Hair said one of his friends, a fellow USS Ronald Reagan shipmate, was diagnosed with a brain tumor.

Hair said there is no history of the genetic disease in his family and that doctors have told him radiation exposure could have triggered it. [...]

Senior Chief Mike Sebourn [...] said he suffered nose bleeds, headaches and nausea in the immediate aftermath — symptoms consistent with radiation poisoning. Months later, he felt weak in his right arm; excruciating pain followed. He said the command fitness leader in charge of physical training at Atsugi watched as his arm atrophied to about half its size. [...]

  • We Not They Finally

"Defense Department abandons medical registry, leaving them on their own"? What a horror show. As bad as the Japanese. That's what "supporting the troops" has degenerated to? The "Wounded Warriors" should take them on. They are an established group that can at least get them some public attention. I'm an American but none of this is being done in MY name.

"That's .. "supporting the troops"? Ahhh, yes, in its naked glory.

Next they'll be telling us railroaders in Quebec should be patriotic in surrendering their jobs to remote control locomotive and should be proud to accept military-level wages.

Do you think these sailors were told to 'Get Over Yourselves' while near Fuku, and reminded to 'Get With the Program' afterwards?

      Quite likely.

  • They/we are in many ways, part of 'a system', that's part of 'the system', that perpetuates these DNA Destroying Death Machines.

The system's status quo is to mislead, deny, cover up and claim it's like an X-ray. Never deviating from a playbook that's worked for 60 years.

One might think 'the system' would come to it's senses, but 'the system' has no conscience.

Here's my report from the NRC FOIA documents concerning radiation and navy ships…there's plenty of evidence the Navy knew exactly what was going on but sacrificed our sailors to save nuclear power.

The Army and the Navy will never own up to the truth, for General Electric told them not to! And this "General" did not even attend West Point or Anapolis; he's not commissioned, and "he" isn't even a person, although the US jurisprudence tradition is to treat "him" as such.

This fictitious "General" orders his minions about, at IAEA and DOE and NRC and has become as noxious a political doctrine as National Socialism ever was in Hitler's Germany; this "poison power" business is so deeply ingrained into our political fabric.

Nuclear power has done far more damage than the ovens of the final solution. It is a false God and our greedy and selfish devotion to the convenient lies that sold it to us ("cheap", "safe", "modern progress" etc.) will exact a horrendous price from our ranks (it has already) …

So I say, loudly and with passion: "Down with nuclear power and the false-tongued salesmen of this odious and horrible, industrial tradition. Nuclear fission power was NEVER, EVER NECESSARY … Those who profess otherwise should be rounded up and dealt with, severely.

    peace …

  • Government elites have always exploited their servicemen and shown disregard for their health and safety.

Who can forget those pictures of servicemen forced to watch the early nuclear bomb tests in the USA from unsafe distance? Involuntary guinea pigs. Just as years later service men and women would be inoculated with experimental vaccines that ruined their health (Gulf Syndrome)?

It took a whistleblower to expose how the army was forcing their men in Iraq to ride in rickety vehicles and losing their limbs or their lives to IEDs – even though the army could have provided them with safer vehicles. Hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries could have been prevented.

There is not enough space to list all the many ways in which the government and the armed forces top brass have failed those who serve their country. What kind of message are they sending when they deny or delay proper medical care for them, or when Homeland Security characterizes them as potential terrorists?

I think that given enough time..and in consideration of the hundreds..perhaps thousands of servicemen and women in Japan begin to realize what has happened to them.. when they realize their exposure…the way things have always gone..the status quo..will not be applicable.

The word has gotten out..denial..that river in Egypt.

How many times do they need reminding..Fukushima is the 'game-changer'?

    For us and for them.

This is/was a murder. It was clear that the earthquake alone had put everyone in a radius of danger. TPTB knew the meltdowns were ongoing and condemned these people to radionuclede poisoning. Prayers to the families of the victims of this atrocity.

This stuff is starting to hot again… Dilution doesn't really factor in anymore. We've all gotten a bit of every damn isotope in our bodies by now by now id bet. Fly anywhere recently?

This will only start to end, when the Uber-elite become affected, which hopefully should be any day now.

Maybe the radiation will cause them to spontaneously grow a conscience, that should be somewhat horrific for them.

Service members continue to be gravely ill from this disaster, even in Korea from fish and imported Japanese contaminated food which Pres. Obamanation refuses to ban.

My good friends son, at a US Air Force base in Korea, and several other enlisted personnel there may die from this disaster. He was never ill in his life, yet after eating fish, rice, and some special occasion beef at the mess hall, he has lost 40 lbs. and overheard the South Korean doctor they sent him to say he may die.

Until we stand up and use Pre-Chernobyl radiation contamination standards, we risk killing our citizens. We need to test our food, all of it, and not sweep deadly contamination under-the-rug. Yet most tests are bogus, check out the story on this issue on the health page at: http://www.radiationhealthnews.com

The Navy spokesman says they protected their own:

“The U.S. Navy took proactive measures throughout and following the disaster relief efforts to control, reduce and mitigate the levels of Fukushima-related contamination on U.S. Navy ships and aircraft,” Pacific Fleet spokesman Lt. Anthony Falvo wrote in a statement to Stars and Stripes.

SP: Visual evidence during the radioactive-contaminated USS Ronald Reagan 10-day cleanup proves otherwise:

War and defense are now just big business and the assets are all expendable.. including personnel.

They are destroying millions in assets right now from the recent wars…why?

They do not pay for any of it!

You do…if you or your children are a tax payers.

There are no winners in any war…there is only profit to be made by those that finance it.

All war assets are now expendable.. because they will just print more funny money when/any time they need it and create new ones.

Yes the truth is very sad…what a racket!

A person I know of had their kid on the Navy Ship that responded to the Japanese disaster. When this story first started to come out I had someone I know ask the parent about the situation. Apparently, some of the family members were waiting in Hawaii for the ship to come in. When it did the families boarded and were given a ride home to California. What I found interesting was that the parent said that on a nuclear powered ship the captain was not wearing a dosimeter. It just goes to show you the arrogance/false confidence that people who work with nuclear power feel they will never have an accident. Also the parent said that “I don’t think the Navy would let the families board the ship if they could be exposed to radiation.” Even without the Japanese fallout, they are boarding a nuclear ship and that enough puts them at risk of exposure. So yes of course the Navy would put people at risk just by letting them board the ship. Unbelievable, what has happened to the ability to think critically? Why are people in such denial about the risks of nuclear energy?

    Report comment

    • Time Is Short Time Is Short

It isn't about thinking critically or being in denial. It's about the ability to dictate to billions of people how they are going to pay – and how much they are going to pay – for the energy they will get a small sliver of.

At the peak of the nuclear pyramid are the most dangerous psychopaths alive today.

Happy holiday to all, the chain of command all the way up to Oba knew exactly how deadly the initial plume was and letting them roaming around the area for 2 1/2 months breathing and drinking radiation, just to save Japan and Abe's face was beyond sinful, I know you all going to say that us/gov is partly responsible for the whole mess ie GE &the plu shipment etc. but when it comes to life and death situation with your own countryman/woman, the commander in chief has to made the right moral choice putting aside your own guilt, knowing damn well the jap/gov needs us more than we need them, for all I can foretell Abe might eventually need to evacuate 100 million japanese to the USA (plenty of vacant land here). It may not be a bad thing if they should come packing with all their assets, then the US may benefit economically!IMHO. Thanks.
