SOURCE: Fukushima radiation fear in Tokyo after danger reading, The Guardian by Justin McCurry, October 13, 2011:
Radiation level on Tokyo street was 17 times recommended limit, exceeding readings in parts of Fukushima exclusion zone
[...] Researchers recorded radiation of 3.35 microsieverts per hour along a street in Setagaya ward, a higher level than in some parts of the 20-kilometre exclusion zone around the nuclear plant.
The hourly reading is equivalent to 17.6 millisieverts (mSv) a year, according to science ministry calculations, just below the 20 mSv a year required to trigger an evacuation, and more than 17 times the internationally recommended level for the general public. [...]
Radiation levels in the neighbourhood, which has a population of more than 840,000, have not dropped, despite decontamination efforts. [...]

The measurement was taken not from a gutter or drain pipe, but from one meter above the ground, according to NHK.

Woke up this morning and was shocked to see a story on CNN about this, they took it off the front page not long after and had to search to find it again but it was on there. They won’t say much though other then there is no risk to the public LOL. I hope some ppl can sue for bogus information, it wouldn’t be so bad if people lives weren’t at stake but they are, they would be better off saying nothing then lying to everyone. Who want to suffer a long drawn out illness that will lead to dying slowly and painfully, just yesterday they reported 10000 free trips to japan, will tokoyo follow and do the same when locals leave and tourism takes a hard hit? Sadly they probably will. Who in their right mind would wanna go there and risk getting exposed to high levels of radiation? Probably nobody here, I think we are all smarter then that, but there are a bunch of suckers out there

And they almost always use a picture of Daichi from BEFORE the disaster, so it looks all pristine.

None of this was unforeseen. TEPCO knew about the fault lines. Long ago, Japanese who survived an earlier tsunami put up markers warning future generations about that risk. And activists have been warning us of the dangers of radiation for a long time.
Please help to force a statement from the White House about ending nuclear energy! What we’re aware of and able to prove is likely quite tiny compared with the information now known to President Obama. He knows better — he knows that Germany has decided to no longer rely on nuclear power — he knows that it would be better for us to follow suit. But I don’t believe he’ll change his tune until WE THE PEOPLE get loud enough. Please make him talk about it!!!
The petition is here: https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions/%21/petition/end-use-nuclear-energy-united-states/H0Pd79B1?utm_source=wh.gov&utm_medium=shorturl&utm_campaign=shorturl
It says, “WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO:
End the use of nuclear energy in the United States.
The best available science has taught us that radioactive substances are extremely hazardous to human health. Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, the ongoing crisis in Fukushima, as well as recent U.S. nuclear accidents can leave no doubt — nuclear energy is neither safe nor clean. Please end the use of nuclear energy, and use the funds currently invested in advancing nuclear power to support safer alternatives, such as wind and solar.”
Please sign it, and spread it…

Erin – online petitions are a waste of time, as is armchair activism. Your efforts will be more rewarding if you organize non-stop protests at Japanese Embassies in North America.
The Japanese will not enjoy having people protesting at their embassies, and will make them lose face…
Main ideas to protest:
- safe levels of plutonium are a crime against humanity
- allowing TEPCO, which is more worried about stock prices than properly dealing with their disaster, is completely insane
- Having govt paid prefectural doctors claiming that smiling is the best defense against radiation is also a crime against humanity
- demand an international scientific team to be created to stop the daily emission of radiation from Fukushima
All the time I have seen you waste with your useless online petition could be spent gathering people in the real world, doing real protesting. Get off your ass and go outside – arm yourself with a Geiger counter.
Good Luck.
Ps – Before anyone else wants to complain and tell me to get off my ass, and that I should do something… well I have been doing a lot since day one of this disaster, to help real people, friends and family… not just reading about it all on enenews.com

Wish I could, wrath! I’m not in a location where that would be practical or even possible most of the time. Additionally, I have five homeschooled kids, and hubby and I have one, p.o.s. vehicle that he needs to take to work every day. This is a small contribution that I can make from right here in my kitchen, so I did, fwiw.
I commend you for your own activism, but please keep in mind that some of us are traveling different, though no less worthy roads than yours, while we all strive to reach the same destination.
Thank you.

Good morning Erin,
No need to tell you how useless this petition thing is as you have already heard it. Barry Sotero/obama is too busy starting a world war to save his presidency now.
What you need to focus on is the very real possibility of another govt sponsored False Flag Event that will be blamed on Iran or Pakistan. We are seeing a repeat of the run up before the unjustified attacks on poor Iraq.
There are many people talking about this right now and none any louder than Alex Jones on his radio show today. He will be on tomorrow also really delving into the potential for an attack on Iran after the isrealli/cia/fbi/mosad/bankster sponsored False Flag Event. He has said his relative has been deployed to Kuwait and that he feels strongly the attack is on within the next two weeks. As said here, many people see this coming and even the military is against it.
http://www.infowars.com/
The people are so dense, so asleep, so unaware of how this world domination thing works. They do not understand that as was well said, war is a racket! Only the military industrial complex and banksters PROFIT in war.
What you should be doing now is preparing by getting in all the extra supplies and things for the kids as you can. Candy and games. Get all you might need if you are ordered to stay in your home indefinitely. If we see some sort of emergency situation caused by those who want a world war, everything will change overnight.
May your Higher Power guide you…

You bring up an interesting point, James. We’ve been trying to educate ourselves about disaster prep., and I’d guess we’ve taken too few measures to save us in case of a truly major disaster, but we’re on our way to being prepared for more average scenarios. We try to do a little here and there, but it’s challenging to balance “real life” with the future “what ifs.” (You know … when a pipe bursts under the house, for instance, priorities tend to change.)
Several years ago, after we’d watched “Signs,” with Mel Gibson, we started a new tradition on my birthday. There’s a scene in the movie where the world is going to heck in a handbasket, and no one can deny that the end is near anymore. So, Mel’s character asks his family what they want for dinner — anything at all, kind of a “last meal.” So now, every year we have a dinner where everyone gets whatever they want for dinner because — why wait until the end to enjoy ourselves?!
That’s my take on it — plan ahead, yes. But for goodness sake, let’s not forget to celebrate today, and do whatever we can to try to make the world a bit better for our kids than the world in which we now live!

I don’t know if you have a Grocery Outlet store in your area, but I hit our local one hard and bought almost all their protien powder muscle gain mix. I was inspired to buy powdered protien (it was only $15 for these tubs that normally cost $39+) after reading about a lady that was in Germany during the war, hiding out from the Nazi’s with her family…the parents would hunt down cats to feed the kids…any kind of protien they could get their hands on they fed to the kids.

Hi Dave,
My first post here. It’s Thanksgiving Day today. Despite all the madness, my family and I are giving thanks for our many blessings today. I’m reminded of what my elderly cousin in Berlin told me when we visited there in the 1960′s. She said two sides and part of the roof of her apartment was blown off during the bombings. She and her son gathered rubble and tore their bedding and household goods apart to create a makeshift tent, so that they would not freeze to death. They caught and ate rats to survive. Her husband was (literally) a rocket scientist the Nazis tried to conscript. He went into hiding for six years and was eventually assumed to be killed. We have never found out what happened to him. The madness goes on and on. Too bad we humans have not yet learned from history. I hope and pray we are not doomed to repeat the same futile actions and make the same mistakes. What’s at stake is much greater now than ever before — the very survival of humanity.

71 American nuclear plants could be experiencing a meltdown following a very possible solar superstorm.
See http://www.aesopinstitute.org to see how and why.
Preventing that and safeguarding existing plants is urgent.
Ironically, revolutionary new CHEAP GREEN technology, mentioned on the same website, may allow the nickel in a 5 cent coin to become the energy equivalent of 5 barrels of oil.

the obama administration knows all about the dangers of radiation and about the possibility of a devistating solar storm and the crisis that would occur from it. Thats why the US has been on a mission of building many underground bunkers to keep himself and the other “elites” safe while everyone else is left above ground to deal with all the meltdowns, fires, the chaos that will be sure to happen when everything shuts down and you cant even buy food or water from stores. He is part of a group who wants to depopulate the world and has been doing anything in thier power to put a war on our immune systems. from putting flouride in our water, to chemicals on our foods, dangerous vaccines, starting wars, and on and on. I know its a scary thought but people have to open thier eyes, and wake up thier familys and friends to what is going on. they secretly passed bills to allow the banks to make trillions of taxpayers money illegally and there is now nothing that can be done, and he says it was all legal. they fund him, and he is a puppet to them, ignoring the dangers of nuclear power, not informing the people of the dangers…its all just a small part of thier plan, and its been going on for decades! look at the numbers of cancers skyrocketing, diabetes, even autism has went from 1 in 250000 to like one in 58 kids get it. It is terrible and it is only gonna get worse, we have to get rid of obama and all thier plans on a north ameican union and new world order before its too late!

Hi Ken31ONCA,
It’s not just the Obama administration.
They all know about the dangers of radiation.
Nuclear Power Plants, their Bunkers, and Fema Camps, have been up and running with both party’s in office.
Republican and Democrats officials all work for the same bosses, and we aren’t the bosses.

Yeah i agree we need to wake up the people, I hate to say it but a lot of people don’t want to hear the truth, they are too busy trying to make ends meet, or are having health problems and don’t need the stress or just don’t care they like watching tv and doing nothing, all we have to do is expose them for who they are and get someone honest in the white house like ron paul, he could make a huge difference and maybe undo a lot of the dammage. If everyone wakes up a neighbour or a family member and they wake someone up and so on the its not too late to make a difference, I remember being a kid and learning about ww2 and about how bad hitler was and how important it was to get rid of him, and now the same things are happening all over the world it is pretty scary and most newspapers, shows are partly owned or funded by the same group so we don’t get any honest or important stories, and people don’t even know what’s really going on. We need to end united nations and the federal reserve. That’s a very good start, and locking up the real criminals.

I think they are just idiots with no plan in mind. Their only plan is how to pad their wallets and make more and more and more money. That is all they care about and they are too stupid to see that the lucky ones will be the ones left above ground while they are in their hidey holes thinking that radiation lasts maybe 5 years and not thousands.
Report Comment
Ken31, I believe you are right about all this, but getting rid of Obama is not the solution…Obama is the latest puppet in office, but whoever becomes the next president will continue on. The elite will make sure of it; they are not going to allow anyone to be president who is not on board with their agenda.
I am not sure there is a solution, but to me a revolution of the people, who are really the majority, seems to me the best thing.
Which is why I will be at the Occupy Wall Street protest this weekend. I am not a huge believer in the effectiveness of protests, but one can always hope that it will make a difference. Especially if enough people take a stand.
Undermining the system is even better, I think, such as using bartering or local currencies…if enough people did that, it would take the power away from the elite.

Hey thanks for the reply, I hope all went well for you at the occupy SF gathering today, we definately need to get ron paul in office and things would start to happen.you would think eventually someone would go soft, confress all and tell the truth about 9/11 on their death bed or something that’s what we would need to happen to start getting rid of ppl and getting justice on the biggest criminals of the tradegy. Hard to believe all this stuff it took me years to believe it was even possible that 9/11 was an inside job. Its good thought to talk to someone about it cause most ppl don’t wanna hear or believe any of it,its hard to fix things when too many ppl don’t know how broke things are

Evacuation of Tokyo would lead to economic collapse of Japan and the financial ruin of many. An export based economy that wont’ be able to sell their products in the market is a dead elephant in the room scenario. The cleanup will be second to survival mode if the cash flow stops.
They have to raise the radiation limits everywhere to allow Japans economy to thrive.

What am I doing incorrectly: if 3.35 microsieverts per hour are detected, then doesn’t that work out to 80.4 microsieverts per day and 29,346 microsieverts per year, which is not 17.6 millisieverts per year, but 29.3 millisieverts?
Does anyone have a reliable understanding of the readings?
Report Comment
yup 29.3mSv/Yr.not 17.6.
this is a dangerous level – not only externally – but what are you inhaling, who knows?
Report Comment
That’s what I got too:
(3.35microsieverts * 24 * 7 * 52)/1000 = 29.2656millisieverts

If you take 17.6 millisieverts and go backwards on that same equation you end up with an initial hourly reading of
2.01 microsieverts an hour. Very different than 3.35 microsieverts an hour.

The calculation 19/29 shows they have redefined the year to 60% or about 219 days. That makes 3.35 Microsieverts per hour equal to 17.6 millesieverts per newly defined Japaneese year. Hey, just smile and it makes it all AOK. Radiation within yearly limits.
