Strainer from machine used to cool water at Fukushima Daiichi (SOURCE: Tepco)
Fairewinds’ Arnie Gundersen, Nuclear Engineer: There’ still a lot of decay heat. Just yesterday Unit 1 saw a temperature increase of about 18 degrees because of a cooling system problem. So they have to be cooled even though they’re officially shut down. […] Unit 1′s been the most interesting as far as keeping it cool. They think what’s happening is some sort of biological fouling is occurring, the pipes are getting organisms growing inside of them, and it’s plugging the cooling flow into to the reactor. If the problem doesn’t get resolved, again even though its 18 months after the accident, these reactors can begin to boil again.

I wonder if it is some sort of heavy metal /isotope build up? The water is being recirculated and filtered but I believe they are just removing the Cesium, not the other isotopes, therefore that water must be thick with nuclear isotopes that are not cesium.

Radiation Click per MInute in Hawaii at .06 to .11 microSv, or roughly 8 to 12 clicks per minute, which is awesome.
Lots of place in US now moving up to steady oscillation around 100 CPM which is just awful. Rule of thumb is 100 CPM for one year puts you at real risk of cancer from that exposure.
Chart and rule of thumb here

Steadily increasing Beta counts, and some big jumps in August and then Sept 17th are shown here….check it out, scary trend.

So why does this increase in temperature (and at times radioactive hydro volcanic steam) occur in periods of intense rainfall? I don't doubt strange organisms are growing in the cooling pipes (I am thinking of SBV in Europe), but what is happening in the subsoil may have more to do with school-bus sized nuclear corium and not their cooling efforts on residual fuel splattered inside the wrecked buildings.
Are they actually cooling the main chunks of melted fuel or just the splatters?
The world wonders…. Where is King Corie? Tepco and Uncle Sammy probably know.

Only probable … Uncle Sam just knows how to make a big bang …. electrical energy get any worse … I wonder why into this does not give …

I'm with Sickputer. Biology can clog pipes and pumps, and will affect temperature guages. But all these pipes and pumps accomplish is to cool the coating of residual corium left behind in the wreckage of Reactors1,2,&3, and their containments. The coriums pop and fizz in the mudrock and ground water far beneath the pipes and pumps inside the destroyed buildings.
Arnie says:
"If the problem doesn’t get resolved, again even though its 18 months after the accident, these reactors can begin to boil again."
So this is "Cold Shutdown", eh, TEPCO?
Just now, Radiation Network is reporting 5 stations 50 cpm or higher, Philadelphia at 68. http://radiationnetwork.com/

Everyone of those high readings could be DOWNWIND of a nuclear reactor nearby.
Those plants release large amounts of radiation at different times, in belches, usually at night, but not always.
It could be FUKU, but I would also look at the nearby plants and measure stack emissions.
Of course, if the plants were transparent, they would publish all of their sensor readings and publish them online…
These nuke death merchants love secrecy, darkness and hiding.

Those stations reported much lower readings in the 20-30 cpm range over the past year, so I believe all of the increaqse is Fulu related, not from nearby NPPs. The big ramp up has occurred in just the past three or four months. Oklahoma City and Denver used to be the bad ones. Oklahoma City seems to be off the air now. Draw a line from Minneapolis, through Detroit, to Philadelphia. This corridor is now the worst in the US. I think part of the problem in Philadelphia is TMI, part from all other nukes surrounding the city, and part from Fuku. I saw no readings of 50+ until early summer of 2012. Minneapolis is checking in with 72, a new high for the year, I believe.

There's biological fouling
all over the planet,
some saying "Oops too bad."
some saying "Stop dammit!"
some laying blame on Brad and Janet
some Joes and Janes saying "Yes but who planned it?"
Well once we were stupid and didn't know,
that's no excuse now but still it grows:
toxins and poisons, strange chemical synergies,
dumping our filth, using ever more energy,
toothless, captured regulatory agencies;
in schools and Media there's knowledge vacancy,
in the name of Profit, Power, Control,
foxes guarding the henhouse,
wolves on safety patrol,
those pushing nuke power
compounding the toll
we take from all Life
that exists on this ball,
with nuke powers' potential
to end it all.

or-well tyoed these priceless words: "toothless, captured regulatory agencies".
Couldn't agree more. Very talented poet!

>>>wolves on safety patrol<<<
LOL. You should get a patent on that phrase, or I might start using it.
