Gundersen: I think first off, you’re going to see the cancer fatalities growing, and despite the best attempts by the Japanese government to cover this thing up, citizens are going to get the information out, that there is a lot of deformities and a lot of cancers that will  be identified in the next couple of years.

  • I know people will write indignantly about Japan gov. Many will be Americans. But just look at the other article in regard to the sherifs not knowing it was radio-active. Officials not telling officials the truth. When something similar happens in USA, Canada or any country anywhere the same crap will go down. Everyone needs to engage in this conversation with anyone who will or will not listen.

so stating facts is being "indignant"?
and thanks for the revelation… so it's not just the japan government that lies and covers up… gotcha chief i'll try and remember that.
      wow

I thought it interesting and possibly hopeful that the sheriff spoke up publicly, even if only in a single, brief, comment. So many people involved in all manner of human-created disasters (nuclear, oil, chemical plants, …) must find themselves challenged between risking jobs (groceries, mortgages) and "doing the right thing" by speaking up. In fact, in smaller events of consequence to only a few people, the challenge (and silence as response) is pretty common (office and community politics, etc.).

Maybe publicity of these truly immense disasters is stirring our sense of responsibility. Maybe there's a growing consciousness about need for greater willingness to reveal injustices and harm. Maybe we'll find speaking up becomes more common. (Maybe this particular individual sheriff has a 'speak out' personality type … )

(Book explores the commonness of our choice to play it safe: Margaret Heffernan: "Willful Blindness". For a 21 min preview that reveals her book's main points see: http://youtu.be/bQq7uq3nzlo. Haven't viewed it for awhile but found it informative.)

Mark – I meant to say you make a fair point. We do tend to use language that suggests "it's those other people". I think most of us know information is commonly withheld, manipulated and distorted by "insiders" everywhere on earth. (In the states we're getting extra doses of marketing language re election.) But your point is well taken … language does shape belief! If we restrict our remarks on secrecy re Fukushima to "the Japanese corporate and govt colluders" we help create a stereotype, and a falsehood, that's restricted to that nation.

The truth is hard to take, if the end of the world was imminent ( examples, asteroid, disease, Fukushima, radiation, solar flair, etc.) our governments would not tell us, would not want us to panic, so they could get to their shelters to increase their chances but not ours.

    • This poses some hope, although the big cameras we have continually inspecting the sun also show us CME which could wipe out our society exp. if we let the big transformers get burnt up.

The alternative is to physically disconnect the big transformers from the power lines, and believe me, this is not a simple, easy or likely task.

Those in the power industry have more than their share of ego and literally "greed for power", making these people the least likely to take a big hit on the quarterely profit but shutting down their whole system. In other words, even with a strong signal, the chances that the greedy operators in charge would take appropriate action (assuming that they even had the planning and resources to do so) is very unlikely.

Also if you do a closer read on the article, my prior theory that we are missing at least one big piece of the GUT grand unification theory of how all the forces in the universe work together. And the piece(s) that we are missing are big important pieces, like 100 monkeys that a molded into the woodwork and we can't see them in plain sight.

Like the reason that a small comet whizzing by at high space, but low mass highly correlate with earthquakes on earth. From a gravitational point of view, it just doesn't make sense, there is something very important going on, interacting. Something like the space fabric everywhere is…

Nuclear power only produces 15% of the world’s electricity, (what a joke) and look at the danger. They must be outlawed. Now.

They say no one died of Fukushima radioactivity yet.

Of course they will say that Atomfritz. They die of things like myocardial infractions, cancers, lymphomas & leukemia's, strokes and diabetes, none of which have a "made in Fukushima" stamp. What motivation does the gov and industry have to release information that it is radiation induced?

On the topic of this interview, I appreciate Arnie's contribution and analysis, but I do believe people taking readings on their SOEKS and other handhelds are detecting radiation they are designed to detect and doing these survey's isn't pointless. Since our gov isn't going to take up their responsibility of accurately reporting their analysis, these little detectors are detecting "something". We just may not be able to have as much confidence in the findings of these surveys than we would of a lab conducted peer reviewed study.

Same thing with so many other Dr. Frankenstein poisons…herbicide, dioxin, etc… Virtually the perfect crime. If you fall into a reactor vessel core then that person is a radiation death. But breathing it, drinking it, eating it, absorbing it through the largest organ of your body…plausible deniability. Various excuses…The dead person smoked, drank , etc… or had a genetic predisposition for cancer or heart disease.

But Japan may yet prove it much harder for nucleocrats to use the environmental excuses. The death rate may soar to figures that will be impossible to refute. Japanese citizens could become the martyrs for our generation, but I certainly don't want them to gain that "honor".

Look at the stats Japan isn't releasing. Still births, Downs Syndrome, etc. As the old addage "follow the money trail", don't forget to "follow the trail of silence". That is inevitably where the guilt lies.
