Follow-up to today’s report: Japan TV animation shows spent fuel rods being exposed in Fukushima pool (VIDEO)

Title: New Images Reveal Nuclear Fuel Rack Exposed to Air
Source: Fairewinds Energy Education
Date: March 30, 2011
h/t Arnie Gundersen
Emphasis Added

Fairewinds Chief Engineer, Arnie Gundersen: This picture is undated, but when it was taken, it clearly shows that there is no water in the pool. If you look, there’s a green, a long, green device. That’s the refueling bridge. Normally that glides along on rails above the pool, and the pool is that crystal-clear water that you’re used to seeing. Well, after the explosion it has collapsed and is lying in the pool. Between seconds thirty-three and thirty-seven on this video you can see little boxes. The little boxes are just to the left of that green bridge. The boxes are in air. Those boxes are the top of nuclear fuel racks. They’re supposed to be under thirty feet of water. They’re not.

What that means to me is a couple things. First off, the top of the nuclear fuel is exposed. Perhaps all the nuclear fuel is exposed, but certainly the top is. You can see steam coming up, but not from the top of the fuel. [From] down further in the cavity there is steam coming up. So, the water that they’re spraying in is hitting the nuclear fuel and creating steam, but it’s not filling that swimming pool. The water has two purposes: cooling, but also shielding. That means the fuel is unshielded. [...]

The other thing it means to me is that the nuclear fuel itself is extraordinarily hot, and the plutonium inside can become volatile. I spoke yesterday, in the [I mean] earlier update [today], about cerium being discovered offsite and plutonium being discovered, and the fact that the nuclear fuel pool does not have water in it, to me, indicates that it might be a clean path for those heavy elements to be escaping from the building and being discovered offsite. I would recommend, based on this, that the evacuation zone should be pushed back further [...]

  • Time Is Short Time Is Short

I'm of the opinion, based on technical observation by serious Enenewsers, that it's all gone, whether it burned up soon after, or whether it burned up a few months ago. Either way, it's probably all gone.

Just add it to everything that's already been released. After all these recent rains, most everything in my garden is dying. They should be thriving. And to think we'll be drinking that water every day . . .

    Sad.

Here is a Mar 16 2011 RT video showing 'something' burning quite well:

Why show them now, you ask? Whenever they surface, they need to be shown! It was just obvious from the desription the other day of water at a temperature of 20 degrees, that there would not POSSIBLY be nuclear fuel rods protected by cooling. Also that they couldn't SEE the fuel rods. And this was supposed to be the big catastrophe we were supposed to AVOID — spent fuel pool of reactor 4 collapsing? Well, apparently it did collapse and early on. We've all been poisoned ever since.

Why show them now you ask ?. Theres and old saying which goes "The truth will out".At the time when it should have been shown the Japanese government was in denial (and still is !!).They were lying to the International community at large and not telling their own people ANYTHING.So better late than never, but it proves that they knew at the time that it was more serious than they were admitting.

Remember this Unit 4 Spent Fuel Pool was the one the NRC originally said was dry and NRC Chairman Gregory Jaczko was pilloried for that belief:

    http://www.boston.com/news/world/asia/articles/2011/06/16/nrc_concedes_japan_fuel_pool_not_dry/

Excerpt: "Newly obtained video shows that the spent fuel pool at Unit 4 at the Fukushima Daiichi complex probably did not go dry as NRC chairman Gregory Jaczko had insisted in March, the NRC said.

Japanese officials had denied Jaczko’s assertion, which was based on information from NRC staff and other specialists who went to Japan after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami."

Rod Adams weighed in on the tarring and feathering:

    http://atomicinsights.com/2012/10/oak-ridge-researchers-prove-fukushima-unit-4-spent-fuel-pool-never-a-danger.html

Excerpts: "Oak Ridge researchers prove Fukushima Unit 4 spent fuel pool NEVER a danger

    Rod Adams · October 16, 2012
The temperature in the Fukushima Daiichi Unit 4 spent fuel pool never exceeded 90 degrees C and the level in the pool never fell below the top of the used fuel that was stored there. The Chairman of the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the people who supported his testimony to Congress on the afternoon of March 16, 2011 were dead wrong.

He swore to the world that the pool was dry and the fuel was burning."

SP: We find out nearly 2 years that SFP 4 burned repeatedly because it was either very low on water, or completely dry. Who were the liars?

Very strange: We've heard Arnie Gundersen speak MANY times since then and he agreed that "IF reactor 4 collapsed, it would be an additional catastrophe. Why wasn't he talking about THIS??

Big mystery…as you say he spoke numerous times about the potential of a fuel rod fire at Unit 4 IF the pond ruptured or spilled the rods. Perhaps he thinks the injection of water during the first year fires at Unit 4 managed to salvage a full loss of contents to the atmosphere.

We may never know what amount burned, especially if they decide fuel rod extraction later this year is impossible (for any number of reasons). If they do entomb those units then we won't learn the extent of the burn rate in the spent fuel pond.

But there will be other ways of finding out and getting a reasonable estimate. The workers know a lot of secrets and undoubtedly a few will eventually blow the whistle.

Arnie just SAW this footage. There has to be hours and days of footage to watch of 311..so it takes the right view at the right time. He would have said something sooner if he had the proof/video. Its not as if TEPCO or Japanese government..or NRC are actually making this stuff easy to find. It may be there..but you have to find it.

If Arnie just saw this video then why does the Fairewinds transcript show a 2011 date?

"Arnie Gundersen: Hi, I’m Arnie Gundersen from Fairewinds Associates. It’s Thursday, March 31st…"

…"This picture is undated, but when it was taken, it clearly shows that there is no water in the pool. If you look, there’s a green, a long, green device. That’s the refueling bridge. SP: Lots of stuff went on in the first month after 311…perhaps this video and transcript fell victim to many other terrible reports superceding its significance.

The NRC chairman went down in flames to a storm of pro-nuke critics who savaged him over this very issue (Was SFP Unit 4 dry?). I hope he got a golden parachute for being the false scapegoat. He did try probably more than we will ever know to buck the system, but he was one man against an army of vicious nucleocrats. Maybe he will team up with Arnie. That would be a show! *;-)

Possibly the reason people were so freaked at at the possibility of an explosion at reactor 4 (and understand, there WAS an explosion at reactor 4! On March 15, 2011!) is that that reactor had over 1300 fuel rod assemblies in it, whereas that was the TOTAL of reactors 1, 2, and 3 combined. So it would be TWICE as much poison up in the air. But then look at reactors 5 & 6 that no one even talks about: Between THOSE two reactors, there are close to 1900 additional spent fuel rod assemblies. And NO ONE has said they are "safe" — it's just that no one TALKS about it! Understand also, that while one is counting, these are not just single fuel rods being counted — they are fuel rod ASSEMBLIES. Meaning thousands upon thousands of fuel rods in total, all of them deadly. And we're not in favor of denial, no, but this is honestly too much for humans to absorb. Is it all over but the dying?

Arnie walks a fine line between being a scientist and a sensationalist. It's a credibility thing as he is already derided by the nuclear industry every chance they get. Most of his theories about what happened at Fukushima, Daiichi have been vindicated as time passes and information is spoon fed to the public. Of course, the ones on a need to know basis already knew what was happening.

If it wasn't for the annoyance of dealing with nuclear waste (spent fuel), the nuclear industry would have ten of thousands of reactors built all over the world already but cost effectiveness gets in the way i.e. governments have to be lobbied, people forced to bear costs and dangers, final resting place for wastes, etc.

It has been a real shitty experiment with a sidelight of nuclear arms in the background plus the medical treatments industry. Remaining nuclear byproducts get swept up and thrown in food irradiators and smoke alarms.

Here's a short video about a smoke detector's inner workings (upper right side video link). Can you believe they use Americium-241 for the ionization? It is not even a efficient form of smoke detection but like fluoridation used in drinking water it is a way to get rid of waste products. In this case nuclear waste. Europe has clue.

"…Americium-241, an alpha emitter, has a half-life of 432 years. Alpha radiation, as opposed to beta and gamma, is used for two additional reasons: Alpha particles have high ionization, so sufficient air particles will be ionized for the current to exist, and they have low penetrative power, meaning they will be stopped by the plastic of the smoke detector or the air. About one percent of the emitted radioactive energy of 241Am is gamma radiation. The amount of elemental americium-241 is small enough to be exempt from the regulations applied to larger sources. It includes about 37 kBq or 1 µCi of radioactive element americium-241 (241Am),corresponding to about 0.3 µg of the isotope. [7][8] This provides sufficient ion current to detect smoke, while producing a very low level of radiation outside the device. The presence of americium-241 means that every decommissioned smoke detector must be properly disposed of lest it constitute an environmental hazard.[9] Some European countries have banned the use of domestic ionic smoke alarms.[10]…"

You might think that is steam but it is not, the fumes you see are the fuel assemblies being vaporized, there is no water in pool it is dry, what is the difference between steam and vapor, steam is water at boiling point, vapor is elements released above boiling point.
Did you note the pictures that were out of focus but you could see the green refueler in back ground and to,the left you see vapour blowing down or horizontal, any ideas what that is, very strange, why keep repeating, important.

Reducing population means reducing tax revenues, reducing borrowing and reducing production. Show me the government, bank or lobbyist that would allow that to happen.

The weak link in the Illuminati-like conspiracies is time. You need psychopaths to execute and sustain such a plan over many generations. By definition, they will only do what benefits them, not what will benefit some future generation of Illuminati – they don't care about them.

Psychopaths mostly seek to maximize their personal benefit from humanity during their lifetime. They're usually pretty unreliable when it comes to 'for the greater good' or 'for the benefit of future generations' stuff.

Ranchers call it 'culling the herd'. They only want to keep those they can feed off of:

"The Total Score Method is a method where the breeder evaluates and selects breeding stock based on a weighted table of characteristics. The breeder selects qualities that are most important to them and assigns them a weight.

The weights of all the traits should add up to 100. When evaluating an individual for selection, the breeder measures the traits on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the most desirable expression and 1 being the lowest. The scores are then multiplied by their weights and then added together to give a total score. Individuals that fail to meet a threshold are culled (or removed) from the breeding program. The total score gives a breeder a way to evaluate multiple traits on an animal at the same time."
