If you know you’ve been exposed , for instance again in the Cascades… zeolite may make sense, but keep in mind you’re also stripping out other things that your body needs.

I love my Zeolite.

Trace minerals and other nutrients can be easily replenished by taking a teaspoon of black strap molasses in hot water and eating healthy.
Spirulina and Chlorella also come to mind.
Report Comment
…and what pristine Japanese pools does your spirulina or chlorella source from? or west coast or far east, is there a safe manufacturer anymore? organic does not mean radiation free.
Report Comment
kill the hacs,
True! Organic does not mean Radiation free.
The road I've been on to find Radiation-Free Spirulina and Chlorella. I cannot find any grown in the S. Hemisphere available for sale here in the US…
The safest source I can get is from Hainan Island.
Algae pools there are fed via deep natural springs.
Every fallout and particulate model I've studied tells me this area is mostly unaffected.
Report Comment
That's where mine comes from, also.
Report Comment
Exactly, anything should be replaceable. I read about Zeolite while in Japan but it's not available or even known about. Now I'm in the Puget Sound area for the summer, does anyone know of a source for it? Talking to someone in person would be better than just finding some online IMO. Thanks.

california radiation milk soars. cs-134 42% higher now than in mach 2012. the milk has .073 bq/L now. + the .079 cs137=.152=4.104 bq/l total. =140% max epa limit. this reading was in april 2012 so you should take it with a grain of plutonium salt!
Report Comment
@glowfus: do you have a link or source for these numbers? also, where you state .152=4.104bq/L=140% max epa limit, Iʻm assuming 4.104 is in picocuries/L, not bq/L, and the max epa limit refers to the EPAʻs 3 pCi/L drinking water limit. EPA does not give a MCL (Maximum Contaminate Level) for milk, but defers to FDA who sets milkʻs DIL (Derived Intervention Level) for Iodine-131 at 4700 pCi/L, over 1500 times that of the EPA drinking water MCL of 3 pCi/L. <http://www.fda.gov/downloads/NewsEvents/PublicHealthFocus/UCM251056.pdf>
Report Comment
Sorry, was thinking Iodine-131…FDAʻs DIL for cesium in milk (cs-134 and cs-137 combined) is 33,000 pCi/L.

I'm frankly surprised that Gundersen is preaching this advice despite what experts like Dr. John Gofman said on the matter. Gofman believed that anything you do to remove radiation from inside the body can do more harm than good. I believe him. Gofman's claim was that there's nothing proven to be safe at removing radiochemicals from bones, tissue, etc… so why make yourself into a guinea pig? The fact remains that (thanks to U.S. government sabotage of scientific progress) no one has studied the extreme long-term effects of cesium and strontium and/or plutonium lodged in peoples' bodies, so why would any person with less knowledge than Gofman (which includes basically everyone) be convinced that they know how to remove these radiochemicals without triggering a deleterious, unintended biological reaction in the short- or long-term?
Report Comment
Zeolite is a naturally opposing force from Nuclear radiation particles, this isnt about removing from bone or tissue this is to capture these particles BEFORE it becomes a bone or tissue problem.
This is basic preventative measures that can be taken.
They have been using Zeolite in the Pacific off the coast of Japan, and it was also used in the Chernobyl incident.
To do nothing is not an alternative.

The scintillator test chart below is of a 625 gram sample of Bentonite Clay. It has also been recommended that people take this to remove radiation from their bodies.
The peaks on the far left in this chart up to the 88 Kev mark, are not from the Bentonite clay, but secondary X-ray artifacts created from background gamma radiation passing through the lead shielding of the testing chamber. I need to put a copper liner in the lead shielded testing chamber to remove the secondary X-ray artifacts. Just having problems sourcing copper in my location at present.
The peak on the far right at 1460 Kev is Potassium Chloride, referred to as K40. This is caused from the radiative K40 in the wooden building I did the testing in. K40 is in pretty much every living thing.

Most clays will have some radioactivity in them. If you look at the line at the bottom of the chart, at the peaks between numbers 183 to 660 Kev, this appears to be radioactive lead P-214, if my calibration is correct. Small amounts, but in my opinion, ideally if you are consuming something as a food or a tonic, it should not show any peaks in this region. Bentonite Clay needs further testing by others with this sort of equipment, to verify this. Also, samples mined from other locations may test differently.
I think we need to do more testing of some of these recommended tonics before just accepting them.

Anne,
The test equipment used is detailed in the free DIY Food testing lab set up guide, link posted below.
I did this test three times. I have tested lots of food items as part of the research in testing this equipment for its suitability before creating the guide. Bentonite clay was the first food/tonic item to show significant isotope detection peaks, as shown.
I was as shocked as anyone to get this result. I also qualify the result with this statement, Bentonite Clay needs further testing by others with this sort of equipment, to verify the findings. Also, samples mined from other locations may test differently.

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear. By removing radiation from the body I meant removing radiation that has become lodged and also removing radiation in the digestive system before there is uptake. I have interpreted Gofman's writings to mean both. He was still writing after Chernobyl and that's what he said – and I'm only saying what he said and what I believe. I believe if you do try to chelate or prevent uptake (except for iodine during accidents), you'll make it worse.

Alpha would you mind providing specific source citations?

Majia – I am a bit embarrassed that I can't recall or find the exact quote/passage where the Gofman talks about 'tonics' or methods of removing radiation from the body. But it must be somewhere in his 1981 book 'Radiation And Human Health.'
Perhaps one of his best contributions to radiobiology is 'Radiation-Induced Cancer From Low-Dose Exposure: An Independent Analysis' published in 1990. It is a very technical read but in it he actually 'recalculates' the lethal dose (in actuality, he recalculated the rate of cancer mortality expected in population-wide overexposures that is more scientifically credible than the accepted government mortality rate).

"This book uncovers the major cause of the recent breast-cancer incidence in the USA. The author shows that past exposure to ionizing radiation — primarily medical x-rays — is responsible for about 75 percent of the breast-cancer problem in the United States.
The good news: Since the radiation dosage given today by medical procedures can be significantly reduced without interfering with a single useful procedure, numerous future cases of breast-cancer can be prevented.
The author recommends specific actions to start breast-cancer prevention now, not ten years from now."

Radiation-Induced Cancer
from
Low-Dose Exposure :
AN INDEPENDENT ANALYSIS, 1990
" — In this book, an expert who is independent of the radiation community provides the human and physical evidence proving that carcinogenesis from ionizing radiation does occur at the lowest conceivable doses and dose-rates. This finding refutes current claims by parts of the radiation community that very low doses or dose-rates may be safe.
— The magnitude of hazard per dose-unit is evaluated in this book step-by-step from the newest evidence, and the magnitude is shown to be considerably higher than the 1988 and 1990 estimates from the quasi-official radiation committees.
— Because ionizing radiation may turn out to be the most important single carcinogen to which huge numbers of humans are actually exposed (environmentally, occupationally, and medically), the practical implications of this book for cancer prevention are very great."

John William Gofman is Professor Emeritus of Medical Physics at the University of California at Berkeley, and Lecturer at the Department of Medicine, University of California School of Medicine at San Francisco.
He is the author of several books and more than a hundred scientific papers in peer-review Journals, in the fields of nuclear/physical chemistry, coronary heart disease, ultracentrifugal analysis of the serum lipoproteins, the relationship of human chromosomes to cancer, and the biological effects of ionizing radiation with particular reference to cancer-induction.
A Narrative Chronology
While a graduate student at Berkeley, Gofman co-discovered protactinium-232 and uranium-232, protactinium-233 and uranium-233, and proved the slow and fast neutron fissionability of uranium-233.
Post-doctorally, he continued work related to the atomic bomb. Prior to operation of plutonium-producing reactors at Hanford, plutonium was so rare that not even a quarter-milligram existed, but half a milligram was urgently needed for making measurements in the Manhattan Project. At the request of J. Robert Oppenheimer, Gofman and Robert Connick irradiated a ton of uranyl nitrate by placing it around the Berkeley cyclotron night and day.

Chelation may cause toxins to re-enter into blood & tissues. This can also be dangerous. It is an individual call. Maybe it is better to help the body do it by itself. There is a middle ground between doing nothing and heavy-duty assault on these poisons.
Report Comment
It's OK to use chelators as long as they are followed with binding agents, to bind the toxins while they are still mobile, in the gut. Learned this during my journey through recovery from Lyme disease. Lyme releases one heck of a lot of neurotoxins when it is killed — also mercury it binds as part of its metabolic processes. Binders — ex: zeolite, clays, activated charcoal …. The idea is to bind the toxin before it gets re-absorbed by the gut. If this happens, the toxins eventually enter the blood stream and can be re-deposited in body tissues.
Report Comment
'Guess I should clarify. Mobilizing agents are generally followed by binders. Chlorella, spirulina, cilantro, and pectins for example can act as chelators. It's generally a good idea to follow them with a binding agent.
Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt near Seattle, Washington (USA) has developed a good protocol for chelating mercury and removing it from the body. In general, what works for heavy metals like mercury will, in practice, work for removing radioisotopes.
If more written, will post to Forum.

Sorry, I don't think vitamins, radiated clays, and so on, will save you from this MOXY effects of this radiation.
It 'might' help slightly, who knows? Can it really hurt to try these things?
If it makes you feel better that you are trying, then go for it. All I do is put Iodine tincture on, drink water with baking soda in it, and take vitamins "once in awhile". I don't expect it to do miracles.
Do I feel effects of this radiation. Yes, like most of us do. Tired, crabby, sore throat, burning taste, bloody nose, have spit blood, head sinuses hurts, feel crummy, gotten sick, and so on. You push it aside, hold it in, and go on. Some days are good, some not.
We all have Fukushima stamped on us, no matter what you take it's still there.

That sed, i dont recommend more than 1-2 x's a week, or month if u feel ok and want cleanse/Fukudetox. Yes, Nascent iodine is fine internally (much better than that potassium iodide) does not stress liver. Paint on skin, thyroid area, females should do on breast tissue and a couple drops in water – its a lot less than what people take during nuclear situations, but better absorbed. BUT those with gout or other thyroid issues really should check w/ doc. Take w/ selenium. Do not take with C. actually take transdermal magnesium, colloidal silica and C another time of day. …..Yes, there are many things to do — and NOT do. But im pretty certain we need to be doing something

from Dr Gofman:
Avoiding fish might be a good idea, as well as taking zeolite. Good description of how fish concentrate cesium like crazy:
http://www.ratical.org/radiation/CNR/PP/chp2.txt
Potassium is a prominent, vital constituent of the
interior of every living human cell. Fish living in
fresh water, where the concentration of potassium is
very low, may be forced to concentrate the potassium
1000-fold, in order to maintain the concentration
necessary to sustain life.
Because cesium is chemically
quite similar to potassium, the same mechanism also
concentrates cesium from such a fresh water source
approximately 1000 times. If the cesium in the fresh
water happens to be radioactive cesium-137, from a
nuclear reactor or other source, then the fish will
contain 1000 times more cesium-137 than the fresh water
itself, on a weight-for-weight basis.
So here is an illustration of how the remarkable
similarity in behavior of certain chemical elements can
lead to massive concentration of radioactive substances
in living tissues, over that existing in the inanimate
environment.
Drinking the water might expose one to very little radiation. Eating fish from that water would expose one to 1000 times more cesium-137 radiation
