    — Particularly Unit 1 released a lot of radiation before tsunami hit.

      Take it easy CBuck! It was just a YOUTUBE post. Not ENENEWS. I work at the same university, and for this guy, never met him actually, to post this, is gutsy, as far as job security is concerned. But mostly, he has a lot of connections with the students and scholars, and THIS is the best place to tap into if you really want to start a antinuke domino effect.

        I agree RJ, this fellow has taken quite a risk doing this at a university. He has my admiration and my gratitude. I hope he helps deepen the long overdue and much needed debate within the nuclear energy field. It is always worrisome to have a branch of science that insists its students and teachers be believers and followers instead of thinkers and questioners. I suppose that the desire for the energy and the opportunity for the money outweighed reason and the need for open discussion. But, the issue of radioactive fallout is personal for Robert Jacobs, not just professional, so a false since of objectivity will not have blinded him.

    I'm sure this is intended well, and it's certainly true that we shouldn't trust Tepco, but the reality is much worse and more dangerous in regard to other reactors of this design around the world. People at high levels know this but it is not deemed wise to release the information. See Germany's shutdown of their sites.
    The truth is that the computer systems were attacked (specifically the Siemens industrial controls) by a virus/worm called Stuxnet. Stuxnet was created to attack the uranium enrichment equipment in Iran which used the same Siemens software as Fukushima.
    This malware is Extreamly sophisticated and attacks particularly speed controlled motors like that in the centrifuges in an enrichment facility or pumps (as well as valves) in a reactors cooling system. It destroys them by setting up destructive resonations that permanently disable the target while also sending false readings to the control room so the the operators don't know anything is happening.
    I suspect it has code designed to detect and "piggy back" onto any other unusual occurances with the aim of concealing its involvement in whatever results. Hence it would have been triggered to go into action by the automatic shutdown that the earthquake would have triggered.
    Stuxnet was discovered in Japan several months before the disaster and it may have been a complete accident that Fukushima was infected Or it may have been deliberately targeted as a pay-back for Japan offering to enrich…

        The earthquakes at Fukushima today were expected because of the rainfall spite in India-see the website imd.gov.in for the daily time series of all India rains. The spike on16 September 2011 was way higher- more than twice as high as the average for the day. This spike on top of the water mass contents behind the dams at the last 15 days of the monsoon and the changes in the high stress level of the rocks induced by the daily massive changes in dam contents at the fab end of the monsoons rival the tectonic forces or the cosmic forces and will trigger a major or great quake in the Pacific Ring of Fire before the monsoon has played out. Note also that because of the surges in daily rainfall being much greater than normal and the relentless increases in new dam capacity have caused the dams to exert such great water moments on the Antarctic rocks that hotspot clusters have occurred in this monsoon of 2011
        On 25th August and again on 9th September. These are significant fulcra to the water moments and their surges and result in melting of the ice by heat produced by friction.         Here is what the Japan Meteorological Agency says about this earthquake:
        “A massive earthquake of magnitude of 9.0 occurred Friday 11 March, off the Pacific coast of the northeastern part of the Japanese main land (Tohoku Region), causing devastating damages. The Japan Meteorological Agency named this earthquake “The 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake.”

        There were large pre shocks and after shocks, and the large earthquake was predicted.

        Anne, could you repost this segment to the Fukushima Unit 4 is sinking article posted today? That "bedrock" is presently being resurrected there as being quite solid when everything from a year ago points to it being soft strata. This is one of those "professionals rewriting the facts" scary moments. The web can magnify and echo lies as well as truth. As usual, thanks for these links.

    Based on Greg Palast's reporting, this is already quite old info. These plants are not able to handle anything more than a pebble toss that can be thrown at them.

  • As I see massive construction that are to demolish the building of Reactor No. 3 is me shivers go ..
    Certainly the building suffered the most, because it was the biggest explosion. So the walls are certainly very weak, and it seems to me that the water in the pool of fuel remains a miracle there is to do there can not be inspected, that does not mean that the building is sturdy ..
    Therefore, demolition should in my opinion not cause additional shocks, and be carried out as gently as possible … Heavy construction equipment, rather they should not be used …
    They are after all modern methods, such as cutting concrete with water. The company offers cutting up to 3 meters ..


    I do not want to think what would have happened, if as a result of the vibrations, the resulting leaks in the fuel pool and the water came out of it … Almost as a result of radiation inside the building and its three filling remains, you can not to re-seal it. ..

    Therefore, even mild disturbances such methods may be used: diamond cut rope ..
