Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR): My concern is if there’s another quake those rods could catch fire and release a significant amount of radiation that would be headed our way.

Host: Is there already a concern that too much has already headed our way?

Wyden: I’m not going to speculate with respect to those health consequences.

I’m not going to speculate with respect to those health consequences.
    ===
Yet, he's willing to "SPECULATE" on potential future health consequences of something that may, OR MAY NOT happen.

Far too easy to fear monger the unknown than to talk about known facts.

FACT: Fuku has released a huge amount of radiological pollution into the land, sea and air. WHY CAN'T WE TALK ABOUT THAT???

We all know why he is not allowed to answer that question. Seriously, what else could he say? The fact that he is the only politician (that I know of) who is going around trying to bring attention to Fulushima is pretty awesome.

Even if there has already been enough radiation released to kill everything, even if the truth is that there is nothing anyone can do to fix it now, at least he is trying to get the word out.

You all know what the answer is, if not go look at the webcam for awhile. There was a bright flash there this morning and it listed that there were only two of us watching….how is it possible that after a year there aren't millions of people watching?

So thank you Sen. Wyden for trying to get the message out :)

        mem,
I get that he's "trying" to get the word out but honestly, how does trying parlay into ignoring facts in favor of fear mongering on the future? What does he get out of that? What's his pay off in this?

"Let's not tell the children playing in the road why the truck barreling down the road is a danger, because instead, let's talk about the express lane they may or may not put in and how it may or may not pose a greater danger."

IS THIS THE REASONING WE'RE GIVING WAY TO?

Stop catastrophizing. If it were too late, Wyden would just resign and spend his remaining time with loved ones instead of trying to wake people up and deal w/ unit 4. There has NOT already been enough radiation released to kill everything. The catastrophe is already bad enough without making people think it's too late. Gunderson and Caldicott have both said they'd move their loved ones to the southern hemisphere IF unit 4 goes. If they were sure the northern hem would become toast anyway, they'd move now instead of waiting. Exaggerating the severity of what has already occurred is dangerous because it can cause people to give up and instead of working to prevent the larger catastrophe from occurring.

@mem: "…trying to bring attention to Fulushima is pretty awesome." Really? You mean he can't answer an obvious question but we're somehow supposed to think he's the vanguard in raising public awareness?!

He's a bag-man for the nuclear industry; garnering only so much interest in this catastrophe and nothing more. You must understand, not-unlike the pigs who brought-down the world's economy with globalist scams and then threatened us all with dire economic conditions if we didn't absorb those losses, we're being softened-up to pick-up the tab for this catastrophe. You honestly didn't think that these scumbags had any intention of owning-up to this, did you?

Where's the nuclear technologies industry on the issue of SFP4? Notice the blaring silence from their side of the isle? Wyden's sole purpose is to form an unwitting 'consensus' from the ranks of the public, with the ultimate goal of terrorizing us into absorbing all the losses. They're all diseased primates; but fortunately, they and their kids will be breathing (as they are now) the same air as mine. They've already murdered tens-of-millions and only want us to buy them more time, so they can murder even more.

        Now, how's that for hardcore…

You know what is really making me feel like I am not relating is everyone (myself included) has prayed, shouted, begged, wished, hoped, written about, bitched, and otherwise lamented and chastised the lack of publicly published information and coverage about Fukushima.

There have been individuals who have absolutely, if nothing else, completely delivered what we have asked for, ultimately.

There are obviously many layers of issues and consequences that I believe flavor both the quality and the direction of the Fukushima story. I am also all for intuitive reasoning but it is stunning to me when some posters really take their criticism to the level that is totally rude. I'm not excusing myself in this inward glance at *us*, but I know I always work to evolve myself.

Im all for critical thinking and communication. But a criticism is a different thing than critical thinking.

Keep in mind we should be grateful on some level that an important aspect of the anti nuclear movement is achieved as it moves from not being talked about to being at least available now to the world.

I just know if they read something some of these people wrote about them and if it was a bullshit incorrect ignorant statement at that, and if that speaking advocate said – to hell with it… they don't even appreciate my efforts…. well, I would hold that poster as the cause of something extremely stupid which hurt the anti-nuclear momentum.

        I don`t think its the best of…

Oh don't worry senator I can speculate for you. 20 Thousand already dead from radiation in the US alone. Thousands dead in Japan where news is no longer reported and statistics are brutally suppressed. 250km of radioactive wasteland in dense urban Tokyo. There will be millions who will suffer from radiation. The time frame for epidemiology is going to evolve as people ingest more and the bioaccumulated effect of toxic levels of fission bi-products will rear it's ugly head. It has only been one year since the accident. Chernobyl heart and other symptoms took 4 years to develop and statistically manifest. This accident on the other hand is easily 3 times larger with the addition of weaponized MOX plutonium in the mix. Expect the bodies to pile higher. I'll keep screaming to bring out your dead.

When he gets asked real sensitive questions, he adds an "uh" after every word? Makes him sound like a fake Italian or something. I know hes thinking about how best to answer in the party tradition.

He still hasent replied to my email. Not that I was holding my breath but it shows that he doesnt really care about his constituents.

  • We need to educate all of our politicians about nuclear radiation. We need to end this insane comparison to "background radiation."
We need to let people know the different between internal and external exposure. We need to educate people about ways to de-tox and mitigate the damage done by radiation through natural substances.

But would it be better if no one had been appointed to even start to break the bad news slowly?

What do people think would happen if he answered that everyone on the West Coast (at least) have been given a lethal dose? How much would everyone freak out?

I do think people have a right to know the truth so that they can prepare and mitigate. I left the west coast as soon as I could after Fukushima blew up, and moved my kids away from their friends and all that. Even though it was tough to move, I don't regret it and I'm glad I know enough to put baking soda in my kid's bath every day. I still wonder how it would play out if everyone knew though.

I don't know what Wyden's intentions are or how he profits from being the spokesperson, but regardless, it still benefits those of us who want the word to get out there.

I think that your link is great too, and here are some other ways to mitigate the radiation:

Great comments both of you. And indeed AFTERSHOCK NoScript & another even more powerful addon is Request Policy. Set both NosScript & Request Policy to block everything at First, RightClick on Request Policy to see what is on that page…set temp permissions there first before temp or permanently allowing in NoScript.

For persistent spying sites like connect.facebook.com or b.scorecardresearch.com…Go to NoScript options & add them as a filter to block them. Then when loading a page with them on Allow in Request Policy …page will load but those are blocked.

Also use the addons Better Privacy & Cookie monster. Set cookie monster to initially default reject all cookies. Oh ya slows you down a bit on the web….but boy do you learn in a hurry how many companies track your movements across the web.

With Collusion, you can see all the links being run to-and-from the active page. I'm amazed by the amount of unauthorized snooping that's being dismissed as commercial activity. That said, these two add-ons did a wonderful job! I'll be installing these on my daughters laptop; which was just deloused (again by me) of all the viruses that made their way into it. This should help. Thanks guys!

Bravo PD. With Caldicott, Kaku, Busby, Arnie G. and many others being heard from on Fuku issues daily and with Wyden already calling for immediate international cooperation in letters to the Japanese Gov., NRC, and US State Dept., why is it necessary for him to provide his unexpert opinion on the amount of radiation headed our way. Lets face it folks – we are in danger. It's time to take whatever steps we feel are needed to protect ourselves and support those who act on our behalf, regardless of what we think of their politics.

@PoorDaddy .. thanks for speaking up against the tide. I agree with you and even tho Wyden is not my state's senator I have called his office several times urging a continued fight for the Japan and West Coast USA and world.

I am a little discouraged with so much cynicism. Wyden is the one politcal ally Fuku has here with enough power to potentially get the ball rolling to enable a coalition team of experts to help before it's too late. The rest of the world and MSM are waiting for someone else to take the lead.

Does it take time? Yes obviously it does. The only thing all our politicians move quickly on and without respect to established law and rule and protocol is starting wars.

Please offer other sources to call or write to where support for this cause might be found.

Anne, I like your contributions here when you offer helpful information, which you do a lot of and I appreciate very much.

However, while I share your concern about anyone supporting the (terribly frightening and foolish) idea of putting a nuclear reactor in everyone's backyard, could we please try to follow Admin's stated policies about not bringing religion into our discussions? It is just so distracting and divisive.

I didn't hear anyone here mention Wyden's religious background (thankfully), so why were you so compelled to have to mention that your senator was Mormon?

Please, for all of our sakes, let's keep focusing on why most of us are here: to share information about Fukushima and nuclear power and its devastating effects.

Personal attacks (or not-so-subtle jabs) at someone's religious, ethnic, cultural, etc. heritage just brings down the quality of this site.
