At this point, though an increasing number of parents are simply horrified, the majority are quite happily following whatever the school teachers say and accuse the concerned parents as “monster parent” (a Japlish word that they use in katakana) – a troublemaker. The same thing is true everywhere else in the world. If you are talking about nuclear radiation, you are basically shunned. It is not ‘ok’ to talk about dangers in the environment, because God in the TV tells everyone that it is all ‘clean coal’ and ‘safe nuclear power’.
So if you upset the apple cart of being ‘normal’ and ‘safe’, you are threatening the appearance of safety and normality.
Now YOU are the threat. Now YOU are the terrorist. Now YOU are to be feared, despised, loathed and attacked as somehow dangerous and evil… to be avoided at all costs, in case somehow this ‘evil’ will rub off on them somehow.
Never mind that everyone is dropping like flies from horrible diseases, that doctors charge an arm and a leg for, and usually have no clue how to help you with, but there is LOTS of money to be paid to the experts who weigh in on this test, and that test, and this very expensive treatment, with this very expensive thing or that…
Meanwhile, the ROOT CAUSE is ignored, feared, denied and spun in the news as being good for people… The more radiation, the better, is what TV says..
Since God is on TV, that is what most people believe now… You must be Satan, if you do not believe what is on TV..

What the? Thats news? Its been reported long ago…. and “at risk” gimme a break… “reactors have been shut down” Well I guess that is one way of putting it… Maddow is usually pretty good, but this piece of reporting probably does more harm than good. People wonder why we are not hearing anything and GE’s channel reports stuff like this? Its for all the reasons already mentioned here in addition to the fact that if you google today you will see that the nuclear renaissance is still in high gear as reported just today in the US, Britian, China, India and else where.
Billions of dollars are at steak and GE is right at the centre of it. This report is damage control and proves that mainstream news is nothing short of commercial infomercials for their owners.

Again, ignorance is bliss. Most people do not know that mass media is owned by only four or so huge companies.. GE owns most US news outlets, and oddly enough, also makes nuke plants and medical equipment.

Good morning everyone.
As history has shown, stan deyo has done a lot of great work but like his twin steve quale, they both propagate fear better than anyone else. Is it for profit? For many years these two have put out more doom stories and end of the world stories than anyone out there in the information flow. Yes, this volcano could go off, and yes it could be devastating, but do we steadily watch that and give it our fear energy, or continue to be observant of the real dangers in the radiation that pounds us all daily? Choose well.
Not putting them down personally, it is just tiring to hear all the fears that come down the line. We choose to spend more energy practicing the art of making life happier for ourselves and then others around us when and where we can. This is The Way! If only others always practiced the simple philosophy of “do unto others, as you would have them do unto you.”
Yes, we are ALL in deep trouble as time continues to percolate this horrific disaster in japan that no one with the power to do so is helping or healing in this world wide catastrophe. He thought that things would change but they have not. You know, it’s not that I disbelieve what your saying (and I will check the links, just don’t have time right this moment). It’s more like … I don’t know what to do with that info. If every bit of dissent is no more valuable than screaming at the wind to stop blowing, then I don’t know what to do with that.
Germany gave me hope, quite frankly, and I have to believe if they can do it, then so can we. The alternative seems to be to give up, and that’s not acceptable to me. We made this mess with the help of our parents and their parents, and I really don’t want to see it left for future generations to clean up.
You may be right, and your approach may be right for you. It’s just for me it feels better to try to do something to help, even if it doesn’t work out as I plan or hope.

Erin, I share your concerns!
I’m not sure if you know that the real culprits include the people in the japanese and other governments, not just at TEPCO or GE. TEPCO is presented as a “private” company but in reality it enjoys a government-maintained monopoly: the government has divided Japan into 10 sectors, each reserved to one state-supported “private company”.
Each of these is shielded from competition from real entrepreneurs, which explains why TEPCO and similar turn into such monsters: it is because there is no check on them! Monopoly profits go to shareholders (major ones being government insiders I’m sure, as with all such fronts), and any catastrophic losses simply get passed on to the taxpayers.
Do you see now why the government will not be doing anything about these “corporations”?

Are you able to sign other petitions? Have you tried refreshing the page? Have you tried signing out, then signing back in to see if that resolves the problem? What do you see on the page when you click, “Sign this petition?” Any and all info will be helpful!
The petition seems to be sporadically working, as we have had 42 sigs, but I’m trying to figure out what to tell the WH tech support folks when I call. So far, all I know is that it’s “not working” sometimes, and this morning it seems to be appearing and disappearing on the page. Sometimes I only get the WH navigation bar at the top and the “sign in” blue bar at the bottom – nothing between. Other times it’s all there and looks normal.
So, anything you folks can tell me about how it’s working for you will be greatly appreciated!

I’ve posted it at reddit without any success; got it into a comment on an NPR health article; posted it at charactersunite.com; and sent it to every national anti-nuke organization that seems to still be in existence at the link to the list of anti-nuke groups on Wiki that Mack posted in another thread. Also sent it to some drug policy folks, friends, family, etc.
Today I’m working on getting to the links Whoopie and chemfood suggested, and maybe indymedia. Craigslist doesn’t seem to have a national section for petitions, and it hardly seems worth placing it in a local one.
But all ideas/suggestions welcome!!!

By the news posted here I highly doubt parents are being ‘warned’. If the Japanese are anything like Americans they believe a mojority of what their .gov tells them. Lies aside, working and small children rarely go together. What to do with them little buggers while you slave to house and feed them? Not quite as easy as not smoking in a car. Plus, these people LIVE there. Unless independently wealthy their choices are few. Blaming the victims already percieved as ‘monsters’ does little to solve these radically frustrating problems. I asked a friend who has experience with radiation testing to view Potrblog’s last video, which discussed in detail their methodology for testing radiation and identifying the isotopes.
My friend said that Potrblog’s methodology–including their adjustments and extrapolations–was methodologically sound.
Methodological reliability being sound, I think we should consider seriously Potrblog’s warning.
In the last video (will watch this one now), Potrblog suggested that a planned detonation of the plant could be, relatively, “risk mitigating” if their data analysis is correct.
There is no evidence Potrblog has backed away from their conclusions.

Yes! I like they way he explains everything so ANYBODY with any brains can understand what he’s saying. Also the READINGS (machine?) he uses can REALLy be more reliable than the electronic devices, dont you think?

Absolutely should be considered, but it’s one of those ‘it goes so deep’, kind of things, it’s truly hard to grasp the harsh reality of it.
When Potrblog was asked by someone ‘why’ the government wasn’t knocking on his door over this data , his response/comment was, “…I wager they don’t need them because they already know what is going on”.

When they say “clean,” they mean it’s not giving off CO2 emissions.
But they’re ignoring what nuclear reactors do give off and produce: over 200 radionuclides and dangerous nuclear waste. Plus over 200 chemicals are used during the nuclear process. All of that has to go somewhere…and that somewhere is into our environment.
Why do they discount and/or ignore these real dangers?

During WWII children were sent from Tokyo, Osaka , etc to the mountains to avoid American bombs. Unfortunately many of the ‘mountains’ included the areas affected in this nuke disaster.
I predict the mountains of Kyushu, which are rather volcanic, would be popular choices for the children of NorthEast to evacuate, since even the Hokkaidoans are abandoning Japan’s northernmost major island.

@ mack Regarding your comment ” when they mean clean” I agree the problem of nuclear waste seems some thing the powers that be are ignoring. It is my main concern about nuke energy. Where do we put all of this waste that is laying around? Even if all nuke plants in the U.S. were shut down tomorrow there would still be that problem looming over us. The fact that it can be used by terrorists against us is also disquieting. What do you think the solution is? Where would you start? I am asking myself these questions also & I can’t figure it out. my point was that it is no secret that smoking near children eill harm them, just as it is no secret that keeping them in a contaminated area will harm them. if t were my kids, forget the job, forget the food, forget the what ever daily bullshit we are used to, priority number one is get the hell out of there!
