Wonder if the nucleocrats are discussing seismic issues?
I hope some of them realize a PR tour through Unit 4 (which had no fissile fuel running on 311) is not the same as a PR tour through Units 1, 2, and 3. Those "Lost Boys" have three uncontrollable blobs of fissile fuel migrating under the buildings, leaching by underground tidal wave fissures into the Pacific Ocean.
Do we dare guess this conference even has one session that addresses the Tepco taboo word (corium)? I doubt it. A lot of posturing by naked apes who have been personally enriched by this species-threatening industry. Their kids go to great colleges… But will they enjoy a healthy and long life? Answer: Not in Japan. And soon coming on the jetstream and ocean currents to your own country.
I don't blame this current crop of genocidal nucleocrats for starting the nuclear industry…but I do blame them fir not stopping it. The verdict of history will not be kind to these people. The question is will there be anyone left alive to read the sad history in a few generations?

Being that she's a geologist, i'm sure she felt it and thought about SFP 4, too
Now, she's only been in her position for a few short weeks, so, like Jazko before her, she may surprise us. No doubt she is surrounded by commission members who distrust her deeply for speaking out against Yucca Mountain. She may have to move slowly to make any progress since her boss probably has not given the green light to her making waves and may not back her when she does. She's still in the "meet and greet" phase anyway. Btw, i think your posts are brilliant, SP.

Pu239, i don't think she's even been in long enough to have taken an action on anything that wasn't already in the works by the commissioners during the gap between Jazko leaving and McFarlane filling the office. There was a flurry of activity done in that gap by the commissioner in anticipation of her objecting or blocking them. Obama isn't noted for making ay kind of public challenge, which i think is the biggest mistake of his Presidency, and he prefers to negotiate from a position starting at the lowest gain ad going downhill from there. McFarlane's sole mission, as was Jazko's, to shut down Yucca and keep it that way. She has no power to override the commissioners without a political battle, which the administration would never support. But, no one is going to be appointed to the NRC if they aren't pro-nuke, and that makes it hard for anyone opposed to nuclear energy to like her.

One of the reasons why it is so important to write and petition the NRC is because not everyone there wants to impose their pro-nukes positions on Japan. The engineers, developers, others there come out and speak openly about their concerns, about the age of reactors, the need to move away from fission and develop cold fusion, etc. Without our input to the NRC, these people have no power politically or collectively, and thus, the chairwoman or chairman, after taking action against the commissioners, will always need to resign. Public input will not change the minds of the hardened commissioners. The letters are for those who need to be able to point to public sentiment in order to go around the varied obstacles and eventually change the culture at the NRC.

i suppose we will find out in a week that the cooling system is off line or the recirc system spilled a huge amount of water, it's not a big enough shake to crack SFP 4, i think.

"It is theoretically possible that the world could see a quake with a magnitude of around 10, a researcher at Tohoku University told the government's Coordinating Committee for Earthquake Prediction, Japan.
The energy of such an earthquake would be 30 times greater than the magnitude 9.0 quake that hit the northeast on March 11, 2011."

Wow, PU, I can hardly respond to that. A Mag 10 EQ would cause tsunamis all over the Pacific Ocean. It's almost unfathomable to try to wrap one's mind around what a Mag 10 EQ would do. That could be a civilization-ending event, in terms of what it might do to the Earth's orbit, atmosphere, land masses, oceans, and so on.

The video here shows a massive cloud of pink stuff rising into the air just after the main shock hit. Then, if you watch the video closely, you can see the pink stuff coming out of the plant continuously. Isn't it Cesium which shows up as pink in the sky or clouds when there in large quantities?
Yep, 30 Trillion Bq per hour or more coming out of there, and counting …. IMHO, everyone needs to grasp what this calculation means.

In the Kurosawa movie, the radioactivity had been colored so it could be identified.
Does anyone know how to identify the various colors? Blue flashes indicate criticalities, right? I find it horriying to watch the videos, because (to me at least) it's so chillingly apparent there is a LOT of radiation at the site, and it is coming up from the ground continuously. Am wondering if the graininess in the videos is caused by the increasingly high radiation levels.
