[...] Earthquake Research Committee of the government announced it was two continuous earthquakes which are separated. According to the analysis of meteorological agency and Earthquake Research Institute of the University of Tokyo, the first earthquake was reverse fault type from the inside of the pacific plate, and 10~20 seconds later, the second one occurred, which was normal fault type. Japan meteorological agency comments it was really a complicated mechanism.

Would someone please explain that in a way that is more understandable?

what they are saying is that 2 EQs happened in rapid succession at nearly the same location.
the first one was a thrust-type compressive event (one plate was pushed overtop the other) the second was a non-compressive event.
the way I interpret this, and without seeing the geologic section, is that the outer, pacific plate was pushed overtop of the inner japanese plate then the japanese plate cracked because of the extra weight of the pacific plate being pushed on top of it.
hope that helps a bit.

Thanks I understood correctly then. This was quite a large "event" then. That whole region seems ready to? ????

Right, except that the Pacific Plate is actually in the process of subducting under the Japanese Plate.

This was a significant event not to be taken lightly. One must assume the worst because of the instability of the fuel situation at units 1,2,3 and 4.

Man can't do a thing about a quake (any quake, ever). As for the spent fuel pool, all we can do is hope.

The Pacific plate crashes into the Eurasian plate. Something has to give so the Pacific begins diving under the Eurasian plate still traveling towards Japan's direction. As the Pacific plate dives it catches and snags the edge of the Eurasian plate and takes it down with it including eventually the entire island of Japan.
Even though the Pacific plate is diving down it is also continuously moving forward crashing, diving and folding under the Eurasian plate, forcing areas of the Eurasian plate far inland to crash into the Indo-Australian plate and bulge up from pressure and movement, meaning the Himalayas are still growing taller.
After all that it gets complicated.
Once they figure out the details there will be a nice drawing to explain it or a 3D video to confuse you even more.

Thanks. I understand it much better now.

Why aren´t they paying attention – by the way – this week the EU got the Nobel Peace Price (i think to keep the public calm) – what troubles me most is that all politicians and policymakers are focusing on helping financial institutions and rescuing their worthless currencies instead of rescuing humanity and opening their eyes – instead they close their hearts and think this won´t influence my personal surroundings. It is really a pity. They all cry out to think global – but concerning their income and so called wealth they only think about themselves. Greed – our enemy No.1 -

Yes H.-P., you are very wise my friend…

Thank you – but to see the obvious doesn´t make it easier to bear

Well the good thing is the 7.4 earthquake wasn't 100 miles closer. If it was a direct hit then our conversations would be a lot different.
Now if an 8.0 of above hits 160 miles away… Sayonara!

It's complicated, but ultimately, the FUKU disaster will spell doom to the country of Japan, just as it did to the Soviet Union..
It is like watching a bus drive off a cliff in slow motion, full of passengers… while the driver is saying to all of the passengers…
"Everything is fine, keep smiling, no need to worry, there is no immediate chance of harm".
