32 years later, ‘No Nukes’ concert stars reunite for new show, Oakland Tribune by Jim Harrington, August 4, 2011:
It started over dinner one night in 1973, when Graham Nash asked Jacques Cousteau to name the issue he thought posed the gravest danger to humanity. The rock star expected to hear something oceanic, so he was stunned when the famed explorer answered “nuclear power.”
“That really blew my mind,” said Nash, best known for his work with the band Crosby, Stills & Nash. “It started me thinking.” [...]
“I hate to say that it takes something like Fukushima to get this information out and to get the debate back in the public eye,” [Bonnie] Raitt said, “but we really wanted to see more attention paid to this issue.”
Added Nash: “It’s always been time to stand up for me. I have three beautiful children — they are older now, 29, 31 and 33 — but I still look at the world through the eyes of my children. I can’t stop fighting for a better planet, for them and for myself, and consequently for everybody else. I want to be able to put my head on my pillow and think that I did a reasonable job with the day that just unfolded.”
Artists Unite For Concert Promoting Safe Energy, KTVU, August 5, 2011:
The concert [...] will feature original MUSE [Musicians United for Safe Energy] artists Crosby, Stills & Nash, Jackson Browne, The Doobie Brothers and Bonnie Raitt as well as younger singer/songwriters Jason Mraz, Jonathan Wilson, Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave), former U.S. Representative John Hall, Japanese composer and multi-instrumentalist Kitaro, African-American a cappella ensemble Sweet Honey in the Rock and more special guests.

It is curious that the government of Bangladesh should be oblivious to the post-Fukushima discourse. Indeed, there is very serious rethinking going on worldwide, seeing how a technologically and scientifically advanced country like Japan is still reeling under the impact of the mighty mishap. And public opinion in Japan and elsewhere is becoming more and more rigid against nuclear power. India’s environmentalists, long arguing for a phase-out of atomic energy and shifting to renewables, have marshaled more force into their arguments.
The problems emerging out of the badly battered Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant have been proving far more intractable than initially imagined. Under the impact of the …

Experts: Fukushima ‘off-scale’ lethal radiation level infers 100s millions dying
Fukushima nuclear power plant radiation recordings of external gamma radiation have been so high this week, they went off scale said veteran nuclear expert Arnie Gunderson on Thursday after the famous physicist, Dr. Chris Busby told the Japanese people this week that radioactive air contamination there now is 300 times that of Chernobyl and 1000 times the atomic bomb peak in 1963, possibly inferring that hundreds of millions of people are now dying from Fukushima radiation, including people in the United States.
If noticing unusual amounts of hair falling out, confusion, nose bleeds or other odd symptoms typical of radiation sickness, it might be due to the United States record high levels of radiation, now multiple times acceptable safety limits not …

Probably not. But no incontrovertible evidence available. When modern civilisation became a low grade parallel to nature by mining her and arrogating to oneself “God” saying I will create life, I will create the sperm, clonal reproduction, GM foods and so on, it became a self destroyer. It created processes and elements without taking care whether these would at one accumulated concentration, poison nature’s already existing ways to a point of extinction level. But in the meantime, the human being got feedback in countries like India, and probably China and thus started having more children to correct for the infant mortalities due to modern civilisation’s greedy evil ways. Thus in 1850, the population of India which was constant for millennia in harmony with nature at 100-140 million exploded into the billion range from 1850 to 2008 and continues to expand. But nuclear wickedness started by Fukushima etc will soon see that this is impossible because of the heavy nuclear burden and the populations will be exterminated, not reduced. Little boy August 6 to Fukushima forever the infinite terroriser. Wake up signal or sabotage to end life?

Hi! I wanted to report that my state Health Dept. finally posted findings on radioactive Strontium (lengthy half-life, bone-seeker, causes leukemia). I had to go after this information with multiple calls and they only posted it behind about 4 different links on their website–no announcement!
I think it’s a big deal b/c EPA has omitted Strontium, except in testing in HI and far West Coast!! I’m on the East Coast–VA. The findings were from the March-April phase. We had no Cesium detected, but positive for low-level Strontium. I had read that 90-Sr is lighter and moves faster & farther than Cesium! Confirmed!! (thank you, anti-nuke non-profits)
So, what I’m saying is that you should be taking Calcium and related mineral supplements. If a little Strontium is accumulating out here in both dairy samples, then it’s all over the States. Yep.

Japan earthquake vibrations nearly reached spaceNational Geographic:
By Physics Today on August 5, 2011 12:02 PM
The vertical motion of the March 2011 megathrust earthquake and resulting tsunami in eastern Japan produced vibrations that affected Earth’s atmosphere—all the way up through the ionosphere. The vibrations at ground level were akin to low-frequency sound waves and didn’t travel far, writes Richard Lovett for National Geographic, but they expanded as they traveled upward through thinning air. Even at 30 000 feet, the level of commercial airline traffic, the waves from the disaster would have expanded to about three feet in amplitude and would not have been noticed by air passengers. In the ionosphere, however, the waves were amplified to thousands of times their original size, which compressed the gases therein enough to affect radio waves, such as those used for GPS. Whereas this process has been noted with other earthquakes, the waves from the Tohoku event have had the largest effect yet measured.

Tacomagroove, do you remember the big wind that came through, I think maybe on March 12th? Trees were knocked down all over the Northwest, and the stations reported it as a freak storm, but I was out on I-5 with my son in the middle of it and saw the forest bending — it was a WAVE in the air, went through west to east on a curved wavefront. I had never seen anything like it, it was not like the Columbus Day storm because air in front of and behind that wave was STILL. A day or two later I thought “this must have had something to do with the earthquake.”

Common Spent Fuel Pool BURNED Aug 4, between 7 and 8pm local time in Fukushima Dai ichi. http://www.scoop.it/t/tsunami-japon?page=2
Where are the posts for that time period on this site? It was not just a usual dumping in of water. Water does not glow and flash.

I didn’t see that event August 4th (I was on vacation) but I believe I’ve seen the same event previously in July.
We speculated then that it could be the common spent fuel pools.
I hope not

Water spouts can loft this stuff up into the atmosphere where it can then “rain” down.
Just a thought.

Glad your back!!

you people are so paranoid it’s not even funny. if enenews goes down, be it because of the server or whatever, just bookmark the sources they get their stories from, this website isn’t doing anything but getting a bunch of stories from around the world and putting it into one place, if it’s too hard for you to actually go through the sources and look it up yourself, well, that’s more of a personal problem. jesus christ, if radiation doesn’t kill you your paranoia will.

Irritated Californian, this website does a lot more than that. There is good analysis and people contribute their knowledge and analyze the limited information that is available to us. You contribute nothing. You do nothing but complain. Why not ignore all the poor paranoid people here and go off and enjoy the wonderful future?
Report Comment
i see people contributing knowledge and info, and i see people who jump to conclusion. i see good analysis, and i see people trying to start panic here. i have contributed here, i post up links to the admin on articles i have found, some have been posted as threads (not taking credit as the articles i’ve posted i’m sure were turned in by others via suggestion form). i am not going to act like i know what’s going on (like many here do) just because i watch a few youtube videos or go on google and wikipedia, that isn’t going to make my analysis any better, but that is what some here do. is there anything wrong with that? no. believe what you want, i am doing exactly what you are doing, stating my opinion. just because my opinion differs from yours, doesn’t mean to single me out. i don’t think it’s going to be a wonderful future (not because of fukushima, a lot more immediate things taking place), but i’m not going to sit here and add more stress over this. i’m glad to be informed, and i am grateful for the info, but when i come across posts here that are just so…out there…it does irritate me a bit. you wonder why hardly any new people post here to give their opinions, because if it differs from the majority here, they are either looked down upon, called some stupid name, or something else. i’ve seen it happen, on multiple occasions.

FYI, Standard & Poor’s just downgraded the credit rating on the United States!! The economic implications are huge…States’ credit automatically downgraded…bonds will take a hit, the markets, our currency!
All of these disasters…heading to the States and subtly enabled by our Govt…
It seems like a concerted effort to take us down!! (Nazi’s trying to get even?)

City Resorts to Secret Dumping
http://www.asahi.com/english/TKY201108050289.html
There’s this quote about the general story:
“The Fukushima city government has not made this place known to the public, even to residents living near the area. That’s because it is the dumping site for huge amounts of radioactive sludge and dirt collected by city residents cleaning up and decontaminating their neighborhoods.”
And this one about the citizens scooping up all this contaminated dirt:
“The 67-year-old leader of the neighborhood association glanced at a dosimeter and said, “As we had feared, the figure has passed the (permissible) level.”
This story illustrates how pathetic modern society’s preparedness is for nuclear powerplant disaster. You have general citizens scoping up radioactive dirt and debris with no protective gear. I wonder what their inhalation and skin absorption rates were? As the quote above illustrates just standing around the stuff maxed out their dosimeters. But, it gets better. They put the stuff in unsealed burlap bags. Anytime those things are handled they’re going to leak fine radioactive dust. Next, the authorities apparently just pick a site that’s out of sight with a low population and just dump this contaminated soil. At least it looks like the burial pit was lined with plastic. Wonder if they made sure it had no leaks? Did they prepare it so that rats and such can’t chew holes in it? Wonder if it’ll easily overflow in the next heavy rain? Wonder if they considered potential contamination of the water table in their site selection?
I remember reading a couple of weeks ago where the solution for some radioactive debris was to burn it :-O. Even with air scrubbers, I would think that this is going to mean that some radionuclides are just being spread back into the environment. Then, as was also reported they’ve got their sludge. Which they might tell people to spread on their gardens. Come on Japan make up your minds. Do you want to spread the contamination around or do you want to concentrate it?
Japan’s response to this disaster would be laughable, if it weren’t so tragic. By the way, I’m certain America’s response would be no better. The refusal to even acknowledge the scope of this disaster by our news media and political leadership illustrates what their response would be under similar circumstances. I can see Obama’s now with Boehner standing next to him nodding in full enthusiastic agreement. “Nuclear accident? What nuclear accident? There ain’t no stinking nuclear accident.”

a good statement! All countries except maybe Namibia are supporting this poisoning of the children of japan…but they are an equal opportunities poisoner! So they may be coming to poison our children one day and then japan can sell us some reclaimed timber to make chairs with or maybe wooden spoons and of course no one will listen to our cries of outrage cos of …..x factor!!…it’s called the old nuclear run-around! As long as they ignore the aspect of bioaccumulation at least!

Dear Anthony:
I had not yet seen this. However, upon reading it, it’s clearly a disinformation piece that minimizes the risks completely through leaving out salient realities, like the multiplicity of radionuclides or that their half-lives need to be seen in orders of ten. Also bioaccumulation is very much played down in this paper. It would be interesting to know if this is actually something a congressperson would be compelled to personally read, or it would be interns and staffers. It would also be interesting to know more about the backgrounds of the authors.

Any predictions/news articles about Fukushima fallout from April 15 fall prey to the old axiom that 15 years ago we called Netscape time. Tehcnology marches at seven-times normal speed.
News from 4 months ago falls under those techno-dog years meaning the April 15 news is 2.3 years old today and stale indeed.
Very few predictions for a fluid situation can withstand the test of time. Arnie gets debunked within 24 hours for some of his predictions…so fish tales from April are only suitable fodder for the feeble politicians who can’t tell time.
You read this in one minute…technology has advanced you 7 minutes into the future. *;-)

Politicians must be complete idiots to accept this stuff.
This “research paper” has no facts. No analysis. No expert opinion.
It looks very official, however, and concludes several times that the radioactivity will not reach the US fishing grounds. Since it gives no data, and no reference to an article that concludes this (some of the referenced articles actually say the opposite) there is no basis whatsoever for that conclusion.
However, plain as day, they conclude this. I personally would love to hear that this is the case, backed up by some reasonable research, but this piece of garbage “research” – appears to be totally made up.
My suspicion is that this is the reason congress is not concerned. Someone has prepared a series of these “research papers” that conclude “all is well” and they can just trot out this if someone gets huffy with them.
Interestingly You can google the authors of this document and they’ve written hundreds of articles on seafood, oceans and fishing. It seems that they would have the qualifications and ability to write an effective report.
