Title: Fukushima Needs a Hero: Responsibility and Democracy in Japan
Author: Akio Matsumura
Date: August 20, 2012

[...]

Even taking the TEPCO estimate, 40 years of radiation contamination in the food chain will have sizeable effects in Japan and perhaps in neighboring countries. The public debate in Japan has shifted to restarting power plants across the country, and little is said about the long term effects of the accident.

[...]

I have growing concerns about the management of the national crisis where the central government, local government, TEPCO and media have barriers to speak out about the worsening situation [See also: Fukushima Nuclear Situation Deteriorating].

[...]

We need individuals to champion the health and security of Japan’s residents.

    Wake Up Japan!
Your current Leaders are are receiving varying amounts of Nuclear Payback* and unless you get vocal you will continue to get More not less nuclear and possible one or more Fukushima's to destroy your quality of life even more!

Those that support nuclear power because nuclear power somehow supports them; no matter what the health implications or other "costs" are for others.

Noda has already committed political suicide. He is not long for office. It is the next PM who replaces him that has to embrace a new direction for the DPJ, or the government will fall into chaos before the unrest of the populace.

But whatever change that may happen, Daiichi is still a hopeless task unless someone with the resources takes charge, someone who can actually do something to bring the crisis to a close without further poisoning the Japanese and global communities. Otherwise, all the political posturing in the world is futile.

With that piece of wisdom said~ It seems to me that "finger-pointing" and "hostilities" that may or may not come into play at some point would be "hypocritical" unless the nations who cry "foul" start tending to "the glowing skeletons in their own closets" by moving AWAY from nuclear and taking responsibility for their own radiation threats FIRST!!~until more major players follow Germany's (for example)lead and stop this idiotic and irrational "clinging" to this crap technology!! Since TPTB won't change their irrational tendencies short of self-immolation(while taking us all down with them!)~then maybe WE can only start teaching our young about the perils they face by following in Big Nukes footsteps and to grasp onto the dreams & ideas & logically focus on developing and implementing alternative and SAFE energy options as soon as they reach school-age! If indeed it's not already "too late" for them as things stand?!! What a crap world we "allowed" nincompoops to create for them and their future,"mutant" offspring generations to follow!! I'm seeing red!!- again!!

Speaking of Noda's political suicide…please watch this 11 min. video that enenewser rooks forwarded to me yesterday (who lives in Japan with his family, trying to leave the country).
PM Noda is attacked by the faboulous Ms. Mori about his lack of action. Later on, the Mayor of Futaba (where the Fuku plant is located) testifies.

FDA is going to have to redo all their nuclear exposure safety documents. They only planned for a short exposure, in the week/month, for the levels allowed for cesium. No bio-accumulation has been taken into account. And OH ..Mr FDA–its going on 18 (EIGHTEEN) months for constant radiation into the environment. Its the Bio-accumulation that will do the most health damage world wide..not the first blast of radiation.

Great comments above. May I just add that I believe the first blast of radiation may manifest itself in the form of a rise in ambient temperatures. Nowthen, if I have a block of metal and heat one side of it, there would be a steady rate of change in temperature from one side to the next. Hitting the cool side of the block with a hammer raises the temperature slightly. Hitting the cool side of the block with a hammer 10^35 times every second and you will raise the temperature significantly. My point is that we are getting hammered and don't be surprised if record heat continues another few years. But, I'm just a dump truck driver so don't speculate in the markets on my guesswork.

Cesium is on the crops, in Japan, and America. And will contaminate everyone. All this, from nuclear reactors. Only a fool would consider this horrid technology.

Do the math… 480 months in 40 years. If the plant on a monthly basis adds 1% of the first 12 months the bioaccumulation will grow 5 times worse than current levels. Some of the cesium will be in the second half-life, but still deadly for centuries.

It will probably be much more, and every day the plant leaks adds future victims. Many of us on enenews have said the Japanese were in dire straits 16 months ago. By late October 2011 we knew the entire island of Honshu was loaded with radiation isotopes in soil, crops, and water supplies. West coast fisheries are contaminated. The plant has filtered some of the cesium, and absolutely zero percent of the deadly strontium-90. Plutonium is also a word Tepco avoids, along with the secretive triple coriums.

I suspect a large number of Japanese people are going to face serious health issues over the next forty years. They will be the Future Shock guinea pigs. Many will suffer, some will succumb and some will learn superior survival techniques.

    40 years only? LOL.

    @ Sickputer:

The real fun has not yet begun.
If there will be no spent fuel accidents creating extra fun, wait for the sarcophagi start to rot, lol.

I have a feeling concrete and steel domes are not in the cards for Fukushima NPP.

The main chunks of the triple coriums that survived the explosions are fairly deep underground. They have no containment plan for that phenomenom. They will wait for the fuel rods at unit 4 to cool by late 2013 and get them to a common pond and then later to casks.

But 1,2, and 3 are tougher nuts to crack. It is unknown the state of their fuel ponds because of the intense raduation inside those units.

We suspect major damage and/or vaporization of the SFP at Unit 3. Perhaps when they finish playing pickup sticks at Unit 3 they will have the answer about that.

Units 1 and 2 are raging hot inside… Maybe no answers for 30 to 50 years unless they can build a better robot.

They are not going to build domes in my opinion. They know something they won't share with us. Probably that the fuel is scattered so widely they can't build a dome that large.

They will instead play an endless waiting game and use a handful of workers to be atomic firemen and watchmen for the next 500 years. And pray a big earthquake does not destroy any of the spent fuel rod ponds.

"may have sizeable effects in neighboring countries"

But the effects will be unknown, to most, till the DR. tells them the bad news…

I was in my local Freddy's this weekend, buying my share of suspect food, and when I entered the checkout, I overheard the casheer lady boasting about how she and the rest of the chartered party caught sizeable tuna off Ilwaco. She was explaining this to the lady in front of me, holding her arms way out, indicating how big these fish were.
It came to my turn and I inquired to her about what I had overheard. She said the party she was with caught the limit and they split the catch equally. She told me how fat these steaks were, saying that they had already ate a couple of dinners from the fish and was going to can the rest.
I stood there in amazement, debating whether or not to say anything. I finally decided to hold my tongue and share her excitement for her "good" fortune. It took all my thoughts to not speak out. I just couldn't do it right there in the store. She seemed so happy and I was weary from a 55 hour work week. Upon gathering my groceries up and departing, we exchanged the usual and I turned to her, looking at her in the eyes with a very concerned expression and said dryly, "enjoy your tunafish". For some reason her face went blank, as if the truth of that phrase, passed across that short distance. I turned and left the store, digesting the moment.

    Yet another glimmer of reality…

When will the Japanese leaders stop living in Nuclear Denial* and announce what kind of Nuclear Payback** they have received?
