NYC Press Conference hosted by Voices for Lively Spring/Human Rights Now/Physicians for Social Responsibility, Cinema Forum Fukushima, May 4, 2012 (h/t Facebook tip):

Dr. Ken Nakayama, surgeon and member of Japan government’s Disaster Medical Assistance Team that worked rescue operations in the Fukushima exclusion zone soon after 3/11 (at 5:30 in):

Roughly 5 billion pounds of debris are estimated to have been generated by the tsunami. What the Japanese government proposes to do is burn that if possible, and if it’s not possible to burn it, then to use it as landfill. [...]

It appears the Japanese government is attempting to recapitulate (repeat the principal phases of) the Fukushima Daiichi accident […]

That released material, radioactive material, then diffuses over the whole Earth. They’re then attempting to pour the fly ash (the results from the combustion) into the landfills, which will lead to a huge contamination of ocean water completely beyond comprehension. So the result of this contamination is not restricted to Japan, not limited to Japan, it’s spreading over the whole world. […]

Because the scale of the spread of the nuclear disaster is worldwide, we need to address it in a worldwide way.

there's that old saw "incomprehensible" again!!!

Really??? Why doesn't anyone ask General Electric Company, them that built these gosh dern things, just how incomprehensible these releases have/will have been?

They were warned this would happen … by insider, company staff, in the 1970's … Dale Bridenbaugh … (he let the NRC in on the dirty little 'not-so-secret' truth too, by the way …)

But good ol' "brilliant machines" GE went ahead and made one of them old "management level decision" thingies …

Eh! Jeff Immelt?? Him who advises the O'Bummer-in-Chief …

Just how "incomprehensible" is this whole mess anyway???

Huh? Silence?? Cat got yer tongue???

Some poster told me the kind of zeitgeist in Japan at the moment and under those conditions I can understand their willful ignorance. Not all by a huge margin, yet they are ostracized and the entire of Japan is not supporting these people enough because of their ignorance or nationalism. They need to remember that their illusions of segregated land and peoples, which are controlled by masters called the state, does not exist. Nationalism is a state of mind not a reality. Even "scientists" have radionuclides just stopping at county and country lines! Mind control needs to be deconstructed. Point reality out to everyone in every way. Exposing the illusion of our society in ANYTHING will lead to people applying that framework to fukushima. I hope at least. lol

I posted my layman's opinion 2 years ago, along with other expert suggestions, that what was needed was a coffer dam built around units 1-4 and the laying of new lower containments into which the coriums might somehow be bulldozed by remote control into the new, lower, long lasting and waterproof structures.

It would have involved exorbitant financial and human costs, such as were incurred in the successful tunneling and containment building done under Chernobyl, and then another unprecedented design and building of a cover (such as the $2 BIL Novarka Arch now being readied to slide over Chernobyl #1 so that the American company can begin the decommissioning process), but the Japanese and their American and world nuclear fascist partners weren't able or willing to undertake any such heroic, Chernobyl-like, containment effort – or they saw they were not in a landlocked location like Chernobyl where prevailing winds would carry contamination to people, and to animal and crop foods and other products, measureable forever across a multi-nation continent like Europe, but would instead blow out over, or flow out into the Pacific, where air and water dilution would presumably prevent any such measureable contamination from being recorded.

Or so the corrupt gang may have thought…

Certainly have no 'plan', but a thought has been sticking in my mind: I've read and heard about harmonic frequencies being able to neutralize all kinds of toxins. There was a scientist, Royal Raymond Rife, that had a (suppressed of course) cancer treatment that used harmonic frequencies and some think that's how Ed Leedskalnin moved all those huge coral chunks. I just wonder if such a thing could be used against radiation…? Maybe a crazy thought.

Terabequrels of every nasty isotope imaginable truly unreal. It has been revealed that Japan Cabinet Office complied the report that denied the significance of "Chernobyl Act", which was established to support the victims after the Chernobyl accident.

While the "Chernobyl Act" confers the right to relocate [to residents] in the areas with annual radiation exposure exceeding 1 mSv and the obligation to relocate in the areas with annual radiation exposure exceeding 5 mSv,

the report denies the significance of the "Chernobyl Act" by saying
"(Designation of the areas) are too strict", and citing testimonies such as "there is no benefit that justifies the enormous cost".

Again, environmental dispersion (dilution) is, was, and will be the accepted (if only because there's so little one can reasonably do) to the gross failures of nuclear. I'm personally insulted by the acceptance, personally insulted that more emphasis on this particular aspect isn't given its due in failure models (those who make models are only modelers, after all), personally insulted that somehow 'logic' is the narrative that accompanies such discussion in educated circles. I won't talk of greed, or hubris, or the human condition, simply because the tendency of humans is to delude themselves and I'm no stranger to delusion myself. I've no contribution in calling the kettle black.

But I am encouraged that doctors are speaking because while I know few nuclear engineers doctors seem to be the most commonly known socially. I have a problem with doctors, feeling that their accountability to 'logic' and their disciplined causality trails leads to disassociation from the human condition which is NOT logical but may be better termed 'reasonable', it's time they take the place that they may crave individually in social context and begin talking about this. It's the way to the masses. To not speak is in itself illogical, contrary to their oath and the responsibility they willfully take.

Now, don't get me wrong. I think this could have been much better and have screamed all along that the reaction borders on criminally stupid and is testament to the humanity at…

But, damn, if doctors have to wait for Lake Barrett or Ken Beusseler to tell them that the concentrations are high when they know the effects and can plainly see what's happening, they need a reality check badly. I can't personally see their problem. Would they rather be dead than simply wrong, if it did happen (and I would hope) that for some reason they would be wrong and by sounding an alarm have some level of discredit? No offense to anyone, but being wrong can be fixed and forgotten; being dead has in only one conjectured instance ever been shown to be overcome.

Basically, at this point, the planet is now toast. Just a matter of time as to how long it takes for this radiation release to kill, or mutate, everything. But the realization of this will take considerable time. Governments cannot admit this. If they do, civilization collapses.

Consequently, this will all be downplayed until such time as even the most ignorant realize it's a done deal for humanity. No one can realistically contemplate the demise of themselves, their families, and friends without experiencing serious emotional and mental problems. But at that point, what else is left for us?

We go out with a whimper, after the bang of Fukushima.

i agree that is what is going on……and it seems our infrastructure and newer laws (usa and first world countries worldwide) are gearing up for just such a panic, preparing for when consciousness does begin to trickle down.
it happened in nyc after nine eleven, manhattan, where information about atmospheric corrosivity, and the asbestos and dioxin in the air at micro particle size(respirable at less than ten microns) was hidden…(i do not have links handy but sources are US geological society links to pH testing of air; and american industrial hygiene asoc member docs) both to protect money interests in nyc and because you cannot, just cannot evacuate lower manhattan…..and we saw it after katrina, with the mold and environmental toxins not acknowledged…and we saw it after and during the bp well fiasco and the corexit in the sea and rash of illnesses…this now is completely consistent with those environmental and public health news blackouts and media denials…it is clearly intentional policy.

Denial of impending doom allows us to sleep walk through to the end, acting as if things are coming to a long, slow period of environmental decline with increased mortality and morbidity. Maybe the end will come sooner, depending upon the collapse of the infrastructure at Daiichi.

Abandonment of the site would be a very bad sign.

I have studied many of the huge disasters of our time in relation to risk management and compensation issues. BP Gulf spill, ExxonMobil Valdez, Union Carbide in Bhopal, India, Chernobyl, Fukushima.

The forensics, toxicoloy, epidemiology are issues that I encounter on a daily basis.

Asbestos was a big fight but it never does any good to deny reality. Same with Fukushima. Many do not want to hear about the truth; it only makes them angry.

The scientific evidence is conclusive that cumulative exposures to low doses, especially through internal routes of administration, and particularly to developing fetuses and infants, is thousands of times worse that the government and the nuclear industry will admit.

Just in the past few years, the studies are proving these facts about low dose intermittent or cumulative exposures. Furthermore, epigenetic changes are even far more damaging at very low levels.

Future human populations will have damaged genetics forever which will compromise immunity and hormonal function. 98% of our DNA is shared with chimps. We would be lucky to even be chimps that are sickly. Many mutations are fatal, if not most, birth rates will fall and developmental abnormalities will rise. The thyroid in brain development is crucial. Low birth weights, leukemia, thousands of known genetic diseases, all inevitable already.
