[… A quake] measuring upper 5 in the Japanese seismic scale of 7 in northeastern Chiba Prefecture and southern Ibaraki Prefecture, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

[…] estimated magnitude of 6.1 on the open Richter scale, the agency said.

No trouble was reported by nuclear facilities in Ibaraki, north of Tokyo, including the Tokai No. 2 power plant, an official of the prefecture said.

The agency said it is believed to be an aftershock of the 9.0-magnitude quake on March 11, 2011, adding more shakes may follow over the next week or so.

I disagree with these findings and believe these are foreshocks in my opinion…

  • norbu norbu

I dont believe in the word "aftershock"

    • TheWorldIsBlind

to me, an aftershock is hours to a few days after an initial earthquake. a foreshock would be a series of small eq's leading to a large eq hours to day after the weaker eq's. finally bringin us to this situation, which was a series of eq's that started with a few weak foreshock, followed by a series of strong eq's – the next stage will be either one last STRONG eq, or a series of eq' with mags less than the others. this is a series of eq's separate of 3/11/11

why has a new storage pool [earthquake proof] not been built for unit 4 and the rods been moved ?
theyve had over a year to do this.

    • ruth

A good question. They have built a thousand or more concrete storage tanks for the radioactive water and waste and these are sitting there right beside the plants waiting for the next tsunami to carry it out to sea. Wouldn't take much more effort to build a new spent fuel pool in amongst all of those new waste tanks. Possibly another piece of evidence that the spent fuel left the building a long time ago.

Maybe there are no rods left. Maybe there is no sfp#4.

    Do 'we' really know?

    • Sickputer

Oh I think the rods are there… Some are damaged from the various fires when water levels burned exposing the rods. They haven't moved them because they need nearly two more years before they are cooled down enough for extraction. They are lethal hot up close and need several years to decay while being hydrated.

If the water stops…or an earthquake cracks the pond.. turn out the lights Tokyo. And probably worse because they will lose control of the entire plant except for suicide air attempts. Daini might possibly be saved but the massive radiation from Daiichi will decimate Japan and a large portion of the rest of the world will be severely contaminated.

If these quakes keep this up do you think the president will be attending this meeting?

"The South has ordered troops to stay vigilant before dozens of national leaders including US President Barack Obama gather for a Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul on March 26-27."

Let us continue to be kind, one to another, for we are each of us together in our pain!

    • ruth

Interesting factoid. When was the last time a US President attended a worldwide nuclear security summit? Bet they will share data and think up new ways to keep it from the people.

I hope he can stop over by Fukushima and observe the marvels of daiichi to get some perspective.
