TEPCO confirms damage to part of No. 4 unit’s spent nuke fuel, Kyodo, April 13, 2011:

… The Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency told the utility to immediately examine the [reactor] buildings and consider reinforcement work if they are judged as not sufficiently quakeproof. …

”As strong aftershocks occur almost daily, we have to consider what will happen to buildings already damaged by blasts,” said Hidehiko Nishiyama, a spokesman for the nuclear agency.

He acknowledged the difficulties involved in the work to reinforce the quake resistance of the buildings, where radiation levels are high, but said, ”We must devise some ways.” The agency urged TEPCO to report back to it on the matter as soon as possible. …

Collapsing structures have been known to make a huge mess!

And here the whole time I was worried about nuclear fuel…
(rolling eyes, and beating myself in the balls!)

The tsunami took lives with unabated crush of a monstrous wave of water tearing cities down and all life with it, now the world is be contaminated with a monstrous crushing wave of radiation !

  • HOW in the world would they “reinforce” the buildings given the current situation?

Its not possible, they are utterly clueless.

They’d need a million or more “jumpers” each working for 10 minutes a weak, and even then some of them would die from the radiation and its cancers.

“HOW in the world would they “reinforce” the buildings given the current situation?”

But one has to consider, if men walking under these structures are looking up from falling debris (we have seen the wrckage in photos) they may step into puddles of contaminated waters or over fallen objects all contaminated.
Not seeing radiation is a hidden unseen danger not like looking for something to fall on you ! All the quakes (radioactive dust and pieces falling) they keep having it must be treacherous in the buildings even without the radioactivity !

    “a million or more “jumpers”
It may take a Monetary offer to draw the men/wemen to do this, but if it was enough to care for their families very well, I am sure there are people around the world that would take this job on !

The Japanese build those nice plastic sheeting greenhouses. They could up scale it, put on filters, and contain that dam thing. This ain’t rocket science. We live in the 21 century and have better building technologies available now than we did in the dark ages. Somebody should tell the Government of Japan and TEPCO to get their a$$es out of feudalism.
