Wonderful News Folks !!
We all could use a little more radiation. Some Japanese scientist's suggest that a little radiation is actually good for us. I am going to pop open a can of tuna right now to receive my radiation dose for the day….

• The same guy who advocated building on top of fault lines is probably doing a brisk business with swamp land in Florida:

I think the Oi plant is also atop fault lines but they're looking into whether the fault is active or not.

Tsuruga nuclear plant may have to be decommissioned as active fault found

December 10, 2012

"A fault line extending from below the reactor was assessed to have moved in the past in tandem with another nearby fault, Kunihiko Shimazaki, an NRA commissioner who led the seismic panel, told the meeting."

• rambojim

I think the officials who are running Japan and the officials who are running Tepco have active fault lines running across their craniums…

• TheBigPicture TheBigPicture

So, the processing plants release radiation as well, with people downwind, unknowingly being exposed.

• PhilipUpNorth PhilipUpNorth

Increased radiation after recent EQ was likely due to disturbance of corium in mudrock under Buildings1,2,&3. Still no word on the whereabouts of said corium, eh TEPCO?

• rambojim

People downwind of almost any nuclear power plant are unknowingly being exposed to vented radioactive particles in any given day..

Some people may lie, but babies don't.
The TepJGovCo Baby says "I'm safe at home!
It's almost Winter in Aomori –
best keep me inside and tell me a story!
Best don't visit the Center at Higashidori –
I'm just a baby so that would be boring!
Best not to go to Rokkasho Village –
just in case my bottle I spillage!
Best all stay home and cook on the range –
at least until a wind direction change!
Mama and Papa say 'All's well at Oma',
that it's just a vacation we're taking –
to Doha!
Well, I'm reprocessing my feeding
so my diapers enriched.
Stay tuned to your TV
for my next safety pitch!"

You are a poet laureate of ENENEWS or-well my friend…

• or-well

rambojim, I should probably be more informative.
Oma nuke plant is under construction. (resumed)
Higashidori is in shutdown.
Rokkasho has enrichment, reprocessing, storage.
I just figure anyone interested will look up unfamiliar names.

Writing poetry, like doing comedy, is a hit-or-miss thing. Or-well, you more often hit than miss. Sometimes however you REALLY hit it! This is one of those for me.

Please tell me that TepCo doesn't actually use a spokes-baby as their PR/Marketing mascot. That would just be too perfect.

• or-well

They don't. They might! I'm waiting…

lol,or-well is definitely one of our most gifted contributors here on ENE! FYI,my avatar is the TEPCO mascot "Plutonium-kun",or "Pluto-kun"~the TEPCO mascot telling a Japanese schoolkid to "Go ahead & drink it"!(PU-239)"it won't hurt you, since Plutonium passes harmlessly through the body"!! There still "might" be some reference to the series of anime cartoons using cute, plucky mascots to spread the word about how great & safe nuclear power is,but I'd bet TEPCO exercised their trademark rights and removed 99% of any remnants of Pluto-kun and the other little characters from the web by now and probably hope nobody ever opens that can of worms either?!(which is why I've kept using it for a year and a half!-I KNOW it pisses them off & makes 'em cringe every time they see it used here on ENE!LOL) http://femalefaust.blogspot.com/2012/04/pluto-kun-japanese-nuclear-propaganda.html

• or-well

Hi JohnnyBlade, thanks, did you know little Pluto-kun was the "image character" or mascot, not of Tepco, but of The Power Reactor And Nuclear Fuel Development Corporation, later renamed the Japan Atomic Energy Agency?
Tepco's longtime mascot was Denko-chan, kind of a girlish-looking housewife. "Retired" since 3/11…
Pluto-kun's "handlers" went too far with the drinking plutonium bit, but he's still around here and there.
I can't give you a link, but google
"After the earthquake: So farewell then, Plutonium kun"
You will quickly find a search result for
"spikejapan.wordpress.com" and an interesting story.
Little Pluto kun had friends…

Fascinating, Johhny Blade. I didn't know that about your avatar. Well done!

I looked it up, and you're right that there's not much trace left of Pluto-kun on the Net.

There is a WSJ article that seems to take the subject very lightly (just another mascot, although a bit naughty). The WSJ says the mascot originated with the government rather than TEPCO, although I guess the two are often indistinguishable.

"The brainchild of a now defunct government research organization, the apple-cheeked animated Little Mr. Pluto debuted in the mid-1990s wearing a green helmet with a pair of antennae and the chemical symbol for plutonium, PU. Promising to “never be scary or dangerous”"

Amazingly, the WSJ published that on March 29, 2011 (a couple of weeks after the crisis began) under the heading "The Lighter Side of Plutonium."

JohnnyBlade, if you do visit "spikejapan", you might also like the next entry called "After the earthquake: In the nuclear village" where you will meet Pluto-kun again at Atom World, the Japan Atomic Energy Agency's exhibition place in Tokaimura.

Hello ALL,Thanks for acknowledging my avatar since I'm sure somebody gets squeamish every time they see it come back to haunt them-even if it's just my avatar & my muted screaming of cancer close to me that shouldn't have ever been there and that which will show up in more family, friends, colleagues and fellow citizens-but not due to "levels of radiation detectable but not of IMMEDIATE concern to public health"(THEIR words not mine!)…I immediately saw the value of adopting Pluto-kun as my avatar when I'd learned of the "baby-like" mascot(s) found in the anime series used to minimize danger & "program" a people supposedly of superior intellect compared to most races & cultures to accept a extremely dangerous technology developed in the wake of the very same technology used to instantly vaporize two cities and leave the rest of the inhabitants sick or dying for generations. It's kind of sickening to me personally since I imagine figures similar to my avatar finding their way onto household poisons in place of the traditional skull & crossbones warning found on "most" toxic products?! I watched & analyzed a bunch of episodes that USED to be found easily up until mid-2011 and noticed they had characters from each generational age group to appeal to ALL of the public, but one of the scenarios I'd found particularly disturbing was related to the image in my avatar being the basis for a schoolkid's "dare" to drink PU-239?!-I hope to God they never follow suit!!(?)…

• Johnny Blade Johnny Blade

P.S.,To view more on the site cited above you have to "x" out the squinting Pluto-kun image and many more episodes(?)and/or info becomes available. I haven't gotten a chance to delve into the contents of the website I provided a link to because like a Geiger Counter-my wife displays an increase in her seizure activity with an increase in background radiation here in the Windy City, where there was a few recent(buried)articles announcing that refueling & maintenance were being performed at at least two NPP's closest to my home!(?) I suspect there's less "coincidences" than they'd imply regarding elevated local radiation levels, cancer clusters & spikes in new cases seen as well. "WE" didn't elect Excelion or TEPCO,etc. to rule the world and hold our lives hostage!~and yet they have more impact on our lives, health & quality of life than the people we elected to represent us and watch our backs! I don't propose a violent overthrow of the govt.,but if it ever gets to that point I sure as hell will do everything I can to support a candidate or administration who has OUR best interests at heart no matter how they gained office! To the nuke-pukes I say-"Shut those crap piles down and do some serious soul-searching,maybe there's still a heart & conscience in there somewhere & you'll feel better about yourself in the long run"! Just take your (blood)money & RUN,don't walk, RUN away from the ill-conceived technology destroying our world!(& yours too!)…NO NUKES! 🙂

• I posted Pluto-kun in a manner hopefully un-takedown-able: the Internet Archive has a copy, as well as googlevideo and youtube, AND all the frames with subtitles are in a slideshow on the page of my blog "ah, mephistophelis" linked above, (at which is a comprehensive round-up of the available, if scant, press on the little bugger)

particularly interesting to me is this quote:

"“We use these characters for educational outreach,” said Isamu Ishii, a spokesman for JNCDI. “But as far I know, we no longer have a video.” "

Oh really?

… i guess you can't be sued if you don't have a copy…

SO….. if they challenge me to take it down, i get to ask them if they have a copy. If something is yours, you have a copy, right?

thank you Johnny, by the way.

• <———— proud of self for tracking down Pluto-kun — was not easy

• razzz razzz

What was I thinking?? Had plutonium all wrong. What we really need is pure plutonium reactors. sarcasm/off.

Dr. Caldicott says every man has a bit of plutonium from fallout of nuclear bomb above ground testing, stored by the body near the testicles. I expect that DNA splitting will give rise to mutations adding arms and eyes to eventual future offspring to help deal with nuclear fallout cleanup…makes about as much sense as that cartoon video.

• Canuck1

I'm sure they all knew what they were doing when they built that plant. Build it on a fault line. Then, in case of a disaster, they could infect as many people as possible with radiation, followed by repair with money made via "air"…called printing. The money will be paid back through taxes. No skin off the government, the serfs suffer paying it back..just like they intended. SCUM.

I have read the articles on enews for along time
but just recently started reading the comments.

The frustration level is as about as high as the radiation.
Time is on their side

Just seems a little early for them to use Divide and concur

Truth is what its all about
what people choose to do with it is meaningless
