Quickstep to restarting reactors
Japan Times Editorial
Sunday, June 3, 2012
[...]
The central government’s dangerous obsession with restarting the reactors is highlighted by the fact that it has not even worked out a road map to phase out nuclear power generation.
If the central government decides to restart the Oi reactors, it will be clear that it has not given serious thought to the nuclear catastrophe at Tokyo Electric Power Co.’s Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant.
Thorough scrutiny of the Fukushima nuclear crisis has yet to be completed, and no new nuclear safety standards and regulations based on the Fukushima disaster have been devised. Despite these glaring omissions, the central government is making an all-out effort to bring the Oi reactors on line.
[...]
It must be pointed out that the central government is pushing for the restart of the reactors in the absence of concrete means to prevent the release of radioactive substances in the event of a severe accident and a concrete plan to evacuate people in communities near a stricken nuclear power plant.
Moreover, the central government and nuclear power industry are not equipped with technologies to solve the long-term issue of how to safely store the highly radioactive waste that is accumulating as the result of nuclear power generation.
[...]
The recent development with regard to the restart of the Oi reactor points to further deterioration of the quality of Japan’s politics. Fearful of public opinion opposing the restart, the central government waited for a change in the political mood.

I guess youve all seen this little tidbit about Japan continuing to produce plutonium though having enough stock to produce 5000 warheads.

If the Oi reactors are restarted, the current Japanese government will fall in the next election. The stage is set for political suicide.

Yeah, full steam ahead. Just like the Gulf of Mexico disaster. No improvements to the blow-out protectors which are/were technically deficient for operating at depths/pressures they weren’t designed for, and a “clean-up” plan that was never tested by an outsourced contractor that has no history of large clean up spills, was all it took for Obama and the rest of the Washington to green light more deep water drilling, damn the consequences. ..SSDD.
Must be the same bastards at work in Japan? Yeah, let’s get back to cranking out more Plutonium, ‘cause that’s where the big bucks are.
Like the US, Japan too, has the best government money can buy.

But no one is talking about the dangerous road ahead if all reactors start using MOX fuel, or plutonium.
We got a warning, which is being TOTALLY ignored, denied, covered up and white washed.

Right AGreenRoad…
It's "we'll talk and report about cesium” because that’s the one, that sounds least scary. Never mind there’s a whole bunch of other radionuclides that have been released into the air and into the Pacific ocean. These radioactive isotopes traveling with the winds and water, sometimes traveling along with the cesium, sometimes not; but, the one in particular, the nastiest and scariest of all is dreaded Plutonium. It’s hardly even mentioned by the MSM.
And, that’s in our backyards and bio-accumulating with every passing day.
Is this a great country or what!
Oops, posted this at another thread; there's no way to edit it after the post.

Regarding the restart of Oi NPP, there is a paid article that states that the pressure is coming from Michael J Green (CSIS) and See I A. This is not the first time US is controlling Japan. US have ordered to vent at early stage of 311. I saw the video footage of a Japanese politician spilling the truth. Also Japan has a 30-year contract with US which is coming to an end in 2018 re: Pu. So this problem of 'restart' may not be a simple one but quite deep.

Hi andii, that's interesting. I read the other day a remark of Osaka's Mayor on Asahi, who was the last one to fight against the restart. He said he had to "admit his defeat" regarding this question.
No further details were given.

Basically, because of this agreement Japan is obliged to import, from the US, Ur and possibly Pu for 30 years since 1988.
I haven't read the following in details but read other people blogging about the problem.

andii…Thanks for this excellent information. I don't recall hearing of Michael J. Green before, so I looked up his credentials. Yep! Another one of the good ole boys.

This would be bad, not only for Japan, since starting any reactors up could end their way of life forever, but also for the rest of the world, that will be destroyed along with them.
This is a very "unwise" thing to promote or even contemplate.
