Title: Camera peeks inside reactor
Source: The Japan Times Online
Author: KAZUAKI NAGATA
Date: Jan 20, 2012

[...] Obtaining a clearer picture inside the containment vessels of the three crippled reactors is critically important, as the vessels are the last line of defense containing their melted nuclear fuel.

In particular, Tepco needs to find out about the state of the melted nuclear fuel at the reactor cores [...]

The endoscope is unlikely to help Tepco to determine the state of the melted nuclear fuel, much of which is believed to have burned down to the bottom of the containment vessels [...]

There is this constant debate on whether the three nuclear blobs have left their buildings. All this shows is that they have no control over the situation. They don’t even know where the blobs are! So I hope you all have extra food, and water on hand, plus Iodine, calcium etc. as anything could happen at any time.

    ————————————————-
I have created a handout which I email, or give to people when I go on my morning walk, plus I put a few in some local letterboxes each time.
I know a lot of you have been frustrated trying to convey how serious the Fukushima Nuclear Disaster is. This method will allow you to communicate the message easily. You don’t need to explain anything, just distribute it.

Good work vital1. After reading it, it makes me glad I’m 66 years old. I knew many, many years ago that this would eventually happen. I even expected it to happen sometime in my lifetime, but I NEVER thought it would be more than once or twice. I feel sorry for you youngsters. Become an oncologist. You’ll be rich beyond your dreams, that is, if you live to enjoy it.
My uncle worked at Lawrence Livermore and before that at Berkely.
He knew. Perhaps that’s why he drank himself to death.

This is a great service Vital 1! At my end of the world, nobody wants to be aware??? When you try to bring it up with people here, they look at you with glazed looks and show complete disinterest!! My wife and I now just keep things to our selves. There are a couple of informed friends that we hang with that are aware, the rest…..are sheeple. Your neighbors are lucky to have a caring person like yourself.

Thank you to people like yourself.

How about burned down to AND THROUGH the bottom of comtainment vessels.

  • The entire event has been lies and cover-up since day one. They slowly release bits of the truth, which we’ve already surmised, long after events have occurred. From this tidbit, we can conclude that the cores melted straight through the floor and are halfway through the earth’s mantle. They’ll admit this in a couple years.

Dear Hobble: You’re seeing correctly. It’s all about the greedy (and powerful, but that’s an afterthought) covering their asses and sacrificing everyone and everything to maintain a status quo. It’s all about preventing absolutely doable revolution.

From the sands of time we have been but elements on this rock called mother earth. We have not added nor taken away.We will decompose and go back to the basic elements that we are.Just one mystery is the life force that we each possess in this very finite time we have been given. My fellow elements..do not worry or be afraid..we human elements chose to counter mother earth and thought that we can further split some elements to heat water, where all elements had be stabilized and secured in the depths of mother earth..thence this problem in F’shima. Now this unnatual elements are being incorporated in our air,water,soil..we grief that indeed we have openned the pandora’s box of other elements..we dared to acts like demi-gods.and now as a species we will take down WITH us the animal kingdom elements, plant kingdom elements and the sea creatures etc elements so we and they will remain innert with no life force 4 ever. The joke is on US human elements..and this is just the tip of the iceberg..plz google Robert Brockway book on _Everything is going to kill everyone_ and enjoy his humorous take on things…highly recommended.True some of you elements will die from worrying and stress B4 the elements from fuku gets you.PEACE to all my fellow elements..OR-WEL pleace take it away MR.POET..theme..elements..:)And that is..as they say,is that.

@elements: your post seems a bit existential. What I’m having trouble with, is such thought precludes any purpose within the universe. Though we may be but elements, we are also interacting elements. Other than thought (the fuel of our existence?), nothing is independent of anything else. From the micro to the macro, all is one dynamically evolving intelligence, which manifests itself in innumerable form.

Your ‘isolationism’ is essentially flawed as it infers a separation from that which supports us. It’s a kind of nihilism that offers no reprieve or purpose. We are not islands unto ourselves. None of our actions – be they of mind or body – are independent of the enveloping-universe that’s about us. Even our sins (obstinacy) become fuel for the ongoing evolution of the universe.

The goddess is great and beyond the dependency of her myriad creations. For such reason, she can afford sacrifice. Not to presume to speak for her, but knowing from personal experience, she can also be forgiving of those who show respect for her creation. She has only asked that I (we) turn-away from my (our) testosterone-driven compulsion to render justice through the sword. She only holds right to wield such final justice against her creation.

For all of our species self-imposed isolation, we will never be without her love. But if we insist on spitting in her face, we will only come away with endless tears in our eyes…

You just inferred my exact same thought process..thx for the response. The common in all of us be it plants or animals is ..wait for it…exact same elements..think the Periodic Table.Thats our basis.Hence we are NOT separate from the whole..same composition different er…animals??? We are one at that level to include plants.
        Thats my short answer.
love to all elements that have always been…here…always.

Indeed, we are organic. From dust we came, from dust we will return. It’s all ENERGY anyway! And, when we eat organic, live foods,…we remain closer to the organic way we are made. We are element.

I’m not the least bit religious, in the common sense of the term, that is, but in regards to man’s splitting of the atom, the phrase “What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder” is quite fitting. I simply replace God with nature.
Uncontrolled nuclear power is simply hell on Earth.
    Welcome to hell.

Why are the presses still here, as in still stuck on this piece of disinformation? “Melted to bottom of containment” (and then not melting through mere basalt reinforced concrete?–5700F corium and then not melting through landfill? and then not melting through mere bedrock? sure!)This minimization lack of reality apprehension, or obvious “lie and deny” propaganda is very annoying. I appreciated the reference by, I can’t remember who in here, that said that Edward Bernays would be proud. Of course so are the soulless ghouls in the CIA,State (we have 18 covert agencies in the U.S.) stem to stern.

So Pallas, you think one or more cores (corium blobs) are melting DOWN literally, ongoing? I guess I’m stuck on that idea, too, that the coriums are part or all the way thru the concrete containment structure bottom, but not really traveling much.

Could you write more on what you think is the status/condition of the coriums?

      Report comment

      • The corium will tend to follow the path of least resistance, always responding to gravity. Viscosity can vary as the material ‘churns’ – think lava. Thus much depends upon the conditions of the containments and their pads. Unit 2, for instance, suffered at least 2 explosions of the conduits from the containment to the torus. These run right past the containment pad (close enough to ‘blow out’ and present an open path straight to the torus. Which is nowhere near as solidly built or shielded as the containment. Fissures and fractures from earthquakes and explosions. the corium will follow those, even if they go right on out of the building (unit 1 reportedly suffered wall displacement from a big fissure that opened up). Quicker to go where there is no impediment rather than physically expend itself melting its own hole.

In the end, it’s heading for the sea. Just as the groundwater is. How viscous any of the flows may still be depends on regularly regenerating heat (encountering water to moderate neutrons on the presented surface to flash fission) and how much non-fuel material (concrete, rock, sand, metals, etc.) each flow has melted and incorporated into its mass. If there’s iodine, fissions are still occurring. Reheating to nicely molten only takes seconds, solidifying may never occur (Chernobyl’s biggest flows are still technically molten). These are big-tonnage full-core masses. Nobody knows how they’ll behave, really. TEPCO says it needn’t do any more examination for 5 years or more. That means they know there’s nothing they can do, so there’s no reason to worry about it.

Once the corium flows at Chernobyl got to the basements, they moved quickly into pipes where they could flow unimpeded. The material will ‘naturally’ choose open or semi-open pathways.

          @JoyB,
Thankyou for explaining, it’s really interesting, and I haven’t tried to learn much yet about how a melt-out might behave.

And strange! I had no idea corium re-heating could re-liquify that quickly, for one thing. Such a weird evil unloosed.

I really appreciate your contributions here, thank you for sharing your knowledge.

The Japanese press must listen carefully to their own words.
“Melted to the bottom of containment”= full meltdown.
The Japanese people must understand that they are being deceived by their government and governments around the world.
They must realize that a nuclear accident has occurred and is on-going ..there is NO containment and corium is in production BELOW the reactors.

To my friends in the Japanese press.. Please listen carefully to your own words.
Be brave… be bold…and try your level best to get the attention of your people… insist on a larger evacation zone.. and insist on truth from Tepco.
Assistance from other governments always ALWAYS has strings attached.
Fight the good fight…and so will we.
