The media have been basically silent. I mean Joseph Goebbels, the Nazi propaganda minister, would smile in his grave to see how the nuclear establishment has handled, quite successfully, the Fukushima disaster.

That's treason buit also a great deal of stupidity on their part unless they have a hole in which to hide for the next two tousand years .
Let's recap the main 'events' :
1) made retaining vessels to melt at same or below nuclear melt . The Space SAhuttle ceramic Tiles , over 25 years in use , didn't connect the dots …
2) they built the facility on the edge of the water instead up the hill behind !
So it didn't take much , since the 1950's it was like pre-planned and accepted by two generations of scientists/engineers …
As we speak the Earth Centrifugal Bulge is arriving over Japan , a butterfly effect that can trigger earthquakes .

Exactly. What is more like our concept of the devil than nuclear? Hellfire and brimstone (the nuclear reaction), eternal damnation (plutonium radioactive life of 480,000 years [half-life 24,000 x 20 cycles), seductive and addictive ("too cheap to meter!") So yes, for those of us fighting against nuclear, I see us in the ultimate Armageddon, battle of good vs. evil. Perhaps a simplistic analogy, but if it conveys the urgency to people whose minds would otherwise be closed, so much the better.

Do we demand from our leaders that they NOW, IMMEDIATELY, CLEAN UP THE WASTE, and recognize that all further proliferation IS A CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY, and that particularly, greedy selfish interests OFFERING BRIBES to our leaders will face warcrimes or worse?

How did mankind get to the horrific situation it faces?
One can review video snippets of Eisenhower's "Atoms for Peace" speach online, and you can download it and read it.
I have a terrible time with Teller. Eisenhower and the allies were faced with a quandry after the Soviets set off their huge nuke. The conclusion from the allies after the Bermuda meeting was that they needed to worldwide cooperate in the control of nuclear.
However, the Eisenhower administration and allies were deluded in thinking nuke power could be safely be used and controlled, and this may have led to a relaxation of diligent control and negotiation.
When I found out Teller advocated using nukes for such things as moving mountains and putting a new harbor in Alaska, etc., I was SHOCKED! SHOCKED! WAS THIS GUY A DELUDED EGOMANIAC, seeking financing for his DELUSIONAL DREAMS? WAS HE THE LOUD VOICE swaying the ears of the Eisenhower administration?

@incredulous_gasp: the Atoms for Peace program was both used to soften the public's suspicions of nuclear technologies, and also as a cover for the production of weapons grade plutonium. They determined early on, that if designed a certain way, nuclear power plants would produce the required bomb materials; while at the same time, lull the public into accepting the technology as being beneficent to our modern world. It was brilliant policy and far from being the simple program that most thought it was.
Kooks like Teller were eventually deemed superfluous and eventually marginalized within the nuke community. He'd served his purpose…

I'd like to know more about the connections between Manhattan Project subcontractors, GE and Westinghouse, and how these corporate divisions took over the podium and stole the country, with operatives in the US DOD and in Congress … and why no smart guy stopped it … Prime suspects include investment banker Lewis Strauss, first head of AEC, Hyman Rickover (promoter of nuclear navy) and whoever was running these two corporations … who decided to "just push this nuclear thing through" …
… so I can know whom to really be mad at … even though these original sinners are all dead white guys … at least there might be a grave site to go desecrate or some such imaginative protestical behavior, which might wake up a few TV zombies in our zombie society …
