NOAA, Dec 10, 2015 (emphasis added): Scientists observed another year of low pup weights during their annual survey… off California… “If last year is any indication of what to expect this year, we’re probably going to see a lot of pups strand unless many die at the rookeries,” said Sharon Melin, wildlife biologist, NOAA Fisheries. “Only this time it is not just going to be California sea lion pups. We’re already seeing unusual numbers of northern fur seal pups stranding in California and we may even see some adults for both species.” Melin predicts that the geographic extent of the strandings will also expand… “Three-month old female California sea lion pups had… the lowest weights we’ve seen at this rookery in 41 years since monitoring began,” said Melin… For northern fur seal pups, the news is equally grim…  The poor condition of pups means that their mothers are not finding sufficient prey… The lack of prey near the rookery is linked to the anomalous ocean conditions… NOAA Fisheries scientist Nate Mantua sees struggling California sea lions as indicators for lots of changes taking place in the marine environment.

AP, Dec 11, 2015: Scientists forecast another year of high death rates for sea lions, seals off California coast… “Based on the condition of the pups we saw in September and October, we would anticipate there will be at least as many strandings this winter,” Melin said… The main problem appears to be a lack of food.

San Francisco Weekly, Dec 11, 2015: California’s Sea Lions are Starving… It’s shaping up to be another terrible year for California sea lions… [They] are having trouble keeping themselves fed… and end up malnourished and sick. When they’re too unhealthy to swim anymore they flop onto shore… The number of distressed sea lions… on our beaches has exploded in recent years.

Courthouse News Service, Dec 14, 2015: A dramatic decrease in California sea lion pups’ average weight… caused [NOAA] scientists… to predict another brutal winterLack of available prey has sent the average weight of sea lion pups plummeting to its lowest level in 41 years of records, Melin said… NOAA scientists say struggling sea lions are a sign of chaos below the surface.

San Francisco Chronicle, Dec 10, 2015: [F]ederal scientists [are] warning beachgoers and marine mammal lovers to expect another alarming increase in pinniped strandings and deaths along the California coast… “For California sea lions, this is the worst, and by far,” said Melin, who studies West Coast pinnipeds for the NOAA’s Alaska Fisheries Science Center. “The poor condition of pups from both species indicates the problems are widespread.” The situation is disturbing for marine biologists who have been documenting unprecedented changes this year in the ocean ecosystem, including… die-offs of Northern California birds, fish and mammals. Low weights last year were responsible for a huge death toll this year, said Melin…. “Based on the condition of the pups we saw in September and October, we would anticipate there will be at least as many strandings this winter,” Melin said… Melin said a lack of food appears to be the chief problem. The core diet of most pinnipeds is sardine, anchovy, Pacific hake, rock fish and squid, all of which have been impacted by changing sea conditions.

Orange County Register, Dec 10, 2015: After record year, even more sea lions and fur seals expected to end up stranded on Southern California beaches — Even more sea lions could end up stranded on Southern California beaches because of record low weights among yearlings… thousands of sea lions [are expected to] wash ashore this winter and early spring… This summer and fall, Melin observed an all-time low pup weight – the lowest since records of sea lions have been kept in 41 years… When sea lions converged on the island in 2012, there was no sign of a problem. A year later, nearly 70 percent of the newborns had died… In 2014, sea lions produced just half the number of pups… “We are preparing for the worst,” [NOAA’s Justin] Viezbicke said.

KCBX, Dec 10, 2015: Starving pups have been and still are showing up in record numbersfish species that sea lions feed on… are just too hard to find currently.

LINK TV, Nov 1, 2015 — Anne Keala Kelly, journalist/filmmaker: Americans think the Pacific is a toilet. Nobody even talks about Fukushima anymore. You know, when you’re in the Pacific, you actually care about the fact that there’s almost no more fish — that the ocean is dying. It’s terrifying to be on the receiving end of this society, this culture. It is terrifying, every day.

        *******,

I do not believe there is any evidence that the Fukushima disaster has anything to do with what is currently occurring in the ocean on the west coast in relation to changing prey available to sea lions. The changes in the ocean have been occurring over the past decade and sea lions were in poor condition several years prior to the incident.

I am forwarding your question to our stranding coordinator, Justin Viezbicke, who can better answer it in relation to what NMFS did to address this concern.

I appreciate the work that you and your colleagues continue to do. I am so distressed about the recent prognosis for California seals. As a concerned citizen, I must ask why there is no mention of Fukushima in the analysis of what may be causing such unprecedented strandings? To completely ignore this event and it's impact on the Pacific greatly reduces the credibility of any effort to explain the chaos under water….

I am very interested in your take on Fukushima and the impact it is having or may be having on what you have been observing related to the California seal populations…

        Most sincerely,

        • Dear Sharon,

You recently responded to an inquiry about the sea lions, stating:

“I do not believe there is any evidence that the Fukushima disaster has anything to do with what is currently occurring in the ocean on the west coast in relation to changing prey available to sea lions. The changes in the ocean have been occurring over the past decade and sea lions were in poor condition several years prior to the incident.”

In trying to research this, I find no past indication that there were massive sea lion deaths at the level we are seeing today. No whale calf has survived more than a year. Marine biologists have said that the whales they currently study are in bad shape. The starfish are non-existent. At first domoic acid was to blame, but that would have affected all marine life, including commercial fishing. However, there were no bans on commercial fishing as there are bans during red tide. A virus was blamed, but a virus becomes weaker when it juts to another species, not stronger, so that doesn’t make sense. I see no SIGNIFICANT changes in the ocean until post-3/11. Would you care to show me where I have missed this this information?

Several months ago I compiled a list of links chronicling the death of the Pacific Ocean since 3/11/2011. It is a 65 page document of links to enenews stories from Nature, National Geographic, mainstream news organizations, scientific journals, interviews with scientists, etc.

          • Just scan the headlines. It has been viewed by thousands of people. It’s not like these things are secret. It’s kind of hard to hide the damage to the Pacific Ocean.

            http://www.picassodreams.com/files/fukushima-pacific-ocean-chronology-pdf.pdf

To PRETEND Fukushima is not responsible for the die-off is to lay aside your love of the ocean to protect a group of people who have deliberately planned the destruction of the Earth. That is what has happened.

A recently declassified report from the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (3/18/2011) written one week after the tsunami hit Fukushima states, “The source term provided to NAARC was: (1) 25% of the total fuel in unit 2 released to the atmosphere, (2) 50% of the total spent fuel from unit 3 was released to the atmosphere, and (3) 100% of the total spent fuel was released to the atmosphere from unit 4.”

There were massive amounts of radiation in the fuel pools at Units 3 and 4. There was more cesium in the Unit 4 fuel pool than in all 800 nuclear bombs exploded above ground. That’s just cesium. The was enough radiation in unit 4 to cause an Extinction Level Event on earth. The raging meltdown has killed off a significant portion of all life forms in the North Pacific Ocean between Japan and the US and Canada. Cancer, heart failure, and other radiation induced illnesses and disease have surged in Japan and the US. Stillborns, birth defects and termination of pregnancies for congenital problems are at record levels.

            • More than 60 percent of children in Fukushima have enlarged thyroids. That information is two years old. It’s probably worse now.
Reactor No. 1 had 50 tons of nuclear fuel.
Reactor No. 2 had 81 tons of nuclear fuel.
Reactor No. 3 had 88 tons of nuclear fuel.
Reactor No. 4 had 135 tons of nuclear fuel.
Reactor No. 5 had 142 tons of nuclear fuel.
Reactor No. 6 had 151 tons of nuclear fuel.
The separate ground-level fuel pool contained 1,097 tons of fuel and 70 tons of nuclear materials were kept on the ground in dry storage.

On top of all of the materials that the NRC admitted exploded into the atmosphere, there has been an on-going fission process, adding to the nuclear mix.

TEPCO has admitted to dumping several hundred tons of highly radioactive water into the Pacific Ocean since Day One of the disaster. They have never stopped. What do you think that this has done to the ocean?

I find it incredulous that you do not believe that Fukushima has an effect on the sea lions. Either this is a result of the Common Core education designed to dumb down the American population or you are lying. You are smart enough to know the truth. How sad that you choose to lie about an EXTINCTION LEVEL EVENT. Do you really think you are going to escape the radiation?

Your paycheck isn’t going to buy you a ticket to heaven. It certainly hasn’t done anything to help the Pacific Ocean.

when writing to scientists, its probably more effective to focus on the quantity of released radiation, referenced to a paper or two. The biggest dead lock is the measured Bq/m or kg. Radiation from cesium is 1/1000ths natural background levels. This is what they will say, what they believe and moreover its true. For various reasons, the danger is not in the radiation dose at low levels, but rather the radionuclide. It will be no easy task to convince any scientist this is true. But asking what science is doing to uncover the mystery of how 10,000 bombs of fallout could harm the ecosystem doesnt permit hiding behind the dosimetry. One bomb every hour for over a year…what harm could it do?

              • Good email, Kelly Anne.
It is probably how I should respond to Buesseler's ridiculous email reply to me.
I just haven't yet decided I wish to waste any more time with him. When I first wrote, I hoped I would understand more about his reason behind his statements. But, I heard absolutely nothing new from him.
It's like they all went to the same school and were educated to not reason, whatsoever. Or, as you stated in your email, they lie.
I'm not sure which it is, but it has to be one or the next.

                • CodeShutdown CodeShutdown

AnneBeck, science says low doses of radiation have a vanishingly low impact on health. This idea is ingrained into the scientist brain. Moreover it makes sense to them because they will compare the dose from fallout to background radiation which is 1000x greater for sea life beyond the vicinity of Fukushima. Buesselers response to you is probably perfectly correct as far as mainstream dosimetry goes. When a scientist has the knowledge to calculate radiation dose it gives them the certainty of being correct. He calculated it and its less radiation than a dental x-ray or whatever. The mystery lies in the details and the unknowns. Cesium is a million times more radioactive than k-40 or 10,000,000,000x more radioactive than potassium. Even bio-accumulation doesnt make diluted cesium a danger in the scientific world. Perhaps there are pathways that the cesium regains its specific activity, i.e. it comes out of suspension from environmental processes (for example, ocean bubbles get enriched up to 300x) or in the body (biopolymer ion exchange?) which creates point sources of higher radioactivity. Or perhaps there is an energy field unsuspected by mainstream science which conveys or promotes a biological response…this would be something like the mystery of the homeopathic dose (thought to be quackery by mainstream science), or a little closer to the point, Reichs oranur experiment, which, flawed though it may have been, may contain seeds of truth.

                  • CodeShutdown CodeShutdown

The fact that there is an exponential growth in scientific knowledge virtually proves that more is unknown than known. Something very hard for mankinds egoistic nature to admit. Some of the reasons that low measured values of radiation are killing sea life could be teased out from knowns and other reasons are yet to be known. Simply getting pissed at the limits of scientific belief or assuming they are stupid or lying isnt entirely appropriate. Thats not to say there isnt a huge cover up and obfuscation going on, a lot of it even occurring on a subconscious level. But dismissing all scientists and their beliefs with vitriol isnt going to foster dialogue or change their views. I think its easier to admit that 10,000 Hiroshima bombs may damage the environment than 10 bq/m3. Thats perhaps a starting point

I think that some of the people he mentions never talk about MOX fuel. The conspiracies are offered to cover the fact that Fukushima was not a conspiracy at all but a terrible accident that can happen at any nuclear energy plant. Every nuclear energy plant is a dirty bomb which can explode and meltdown because of flood, earthquake, or EMP or CME. All these events cannot be controlled and there is no way to avoid another meltdown every 5 to 10 years or less.

    • buckyballs buckyballs

We are dominated by blood thristy, demented, evil-monkeys and it is our fault for relying on centralized power grids. For collecting pensions, dividends, and speculation moneys funded by hedgefunds vested in nuclear energy corporations, military industrial complex corprations, and their contractors that have their fingers in every aspect of the american economy and wall street. Oh yes so many will say it is not our fault but, it is all of us's faults, mine too, for accepting the fairy tale lifestyle and delusion we call the american dream.
.No rhyme or reason just blood lust and greed like the rest of us crazy assholes. Most people are crazy at least part of the time. Have you ever n9ticed how when you piss off a dog it growls for a while and it is skiddish for a while but all that shit goes away and they never bring it up again. they still love the shit out of ya. no lists. no grudges. just strong loyal unconditional love. ñot true with fucking evil monkey humans

What is there to gain from all of this suffering? Of animals. Of people. I just don't get it. I have heard every conspiracy theory on earth by now, and no one has answered this question for me: "Why."

Leuren K Moret – Real Job at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
      http://www.archive.org/details/LeurenKMoret-RealJobAtLawrenceLivermoreNationalLaboratory

Leuren K Moret often asserts that she was a "nuclear scientist" at two DOE National Laboratories. This letter, obtained from the University of California operated Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory under the California Public Records Act shows that Moret was not a "scientist" and worked very briefly at the Laboratory. Moret was a Senior Scientific Technologist in the Center for Applied Scientific Computing for less than a year from 1989 to 1990. Moret also claims to have been trained in radiation detection by Manhattan Project Scientist Marion Fulk. Fulk's employment from 1964 to 1984, a normal 20 year career, as a Chemist at the Laboratory is also addressed in this letter. The Manhattan Project ended in 1946 so it is very unusual for a Manhattan Project scientist to wait 18 years to begin a 20 year career at the Lab. Moret never worked with Fulk either since Fulk retired in 1984, five years before Moret began work at the Lab.

I think I can tell you "why". It's all about money and control! Big secret military projects (and wars) that have no accountability to anyone and unlimited funds! Who is counting how many million dollar cruise missiles they fire off? Who holds anyone responsible for anything they do? We pay the price, they make the bombs. We get the shaft! • "The main problem appears to be a lack of food."

Thanks to Dr. Sternglass, for this research paper below. It clearly demonstrates how Nuclear contamination from the nuclear bomb testing era caused a significant crash in Pacific Ocean fish stocks.

Fukushima radioactive contamination would be lowering the fertility and weakening the immune systems of any sea life coming in contact with it.

This massive amount of radioactive environment pollution has resulted in the Pacific Ocean food supply crashing! Hence the large number of reports of seals, whales and birds etc., washing up on the west coast of North America, starving to death.

    • Quote from Dr. Sternglass's Research Paper:

“The purpose of the study was to determine whether continued atmospheric testing by France and China or potential releases from underground detonations that might unexpectedly escape into the nearby fishing grounds could have detectable effects on the reproduction of fish populations similar to the unanticipatedly severe effects of low level radiation on the human embryo and fetus (2, 3, 4) recently confirmed by independent studies by other investigators (5, 6).”

08.10.1971 – Fallout and Reproduction of Ocean Fish Populations. E.J. Sternglass, Department of Radiology, School of Medicine, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

      Extract:

Nuclear Fallout causes Fish Population Decline,

As will be shown below, very large declines of fish-populations after low-altitude nuclear tests followed by a gradual recovery to pretesting levels have been observed both in the Atlantic and Pacific, strongly suggesting that the eggs of fish and the developing young are far more sensitive to internal radiation from low-level fallout than had been anticipated, very much as in the case of the human-embryo and fetus.

earlier at 1:48:50 she talks about Iodine (put on skin to absorb).

      • Very bad advice. Doing all of the above does nothing for the radiation contamination in the vegetable or fruit, just the outside skin, maybe.

If people rely on her advice, they will be poisoned by radiation contamination.

Where is her proof that this actually works? her belief?

        • The best advice is to test the food, and avoid it if it is radioactive. Do not eat or drink radiation contaminated foods or drinks. PERIOD.

If people take her advice and do this with everything, including non radiation contaminated food, they will end up losing minerals and vitamins, big time. Vitamin and mineral deficiency leading to sickness and health problems will be the end result.

For a lot of reasons, she is giving bad advice about this specifically.

        • If an area is radiation contaminated and people are eating local foods and boiling them before eating them, wouldn't it also make sense, that they are using local water, which is also radiation contaminated?

What good would that do? Tritium and cesium contaminated water, does not 'fix' anything.

          • Right, Doc?
It's like saving seeds.., then planting them in radioactive soil, and using (absolutely tritiated) radioactive water on them.

The only difference I can see is this: at least heirloom seeds are not GMO. But, the water and the soil are radioactive.
I just started photographing my cactus, which is growing new (and weird, again) nopales. Rather than being the (regular) size and shape of paddles, these things have grown up to thirty inches long (usually only 4 to 6 inches) and are less than an inch wide (usually 4 to 5 inches wide.) It looks like the new growth will be just like what we experienced, last year, in the same pots, filled with the same radioactive soil. CPMs have gone up, this year, by about 10. Last year was 55 to 60 CPMs. This year, it's been counting at 60 to 70 (and I think it has to do with humidity both in the air and in the soil, itself.)
The video is up in my yt channel: annebeck58, and I am beginning a time-lapse photo video which will take at least a month to produce.

If there is a big lie about Fukushima, it is this:
The corium from Units1-3 is still contained by reactor buildings.
Tepco is trying to stop the leaks.

The truth is that up to 3 blobs of melted nuclear corium melted out of the reactor buildings.
    Corium is in the ground.
Corium debris is leached into a groundwater river running under the nuclear plant ruins.
Washing super-hot radiation into the Pacific Ocean, day and night.
    Going on 5 years, now.
No effort to divert the groundwater around those reactor ruins.
    No effort.
    No results.

It is already too late for the Pacific Ocean.
    The only question is this:

Is it too late for Earth's Biosphere?

    And this:

Where is the damn corium, Tepco?

    • PhilipUpNorth PhilipUpNorth

      Fissures opened in the ground.
Workers could hear the corium from Unit 2, making noise in the ground.
Steam was rising from the ground.
      http://agreenroad.blogspot.com/2015/01/inside-of-fukushima-reactor-2-molten.html

That corium melted out of the reactor buildings is really not contested by Tepco.
But Tepco still creates these nice little drawings, showing lumps of corium.
Sitting still, heated by decay heat alone.
A lump at the bottom of a containment vessel.
A 100 tonne lump they will remove by going in through the removed reactor plug.
With technology that has not yet been designed.
      In 30 years from now.
      Who you kiddin' eh, Tepco?

In reality, Iodine-131 in sewage sludge, shows cirticalities are ongoing in 2015.
      The corium is still hot.
      Fission is still happening.

Japan's response has been to try to get municipalities to stop measuring Iodine-131 in sewage sludge.
Gunma reported recently, they they have suspended measuring Iodine-131 in sewage sludge.
Not measuring radiation, does no make it go away.
And not talking about Fukushima, scientists and media people,
Does not make the radiation killing the Pacific Ocean go away.
Does not make the epidemic of Fukushima cancer on the west coast go away.

          Oldster:
Many thanks for your comments and for your encouragement.
Japan needs to nationalize Tepco and the disaster recovery effort. Now, please.

This is my view of what must be done:
Image and map the corium, in 3 D, wherever it is.
Back up the hill, and create concrete groundwater diversion structures to divert the underground river around the reactors, and into the Ocean.
(Need a portable cement plant onsite, with sand and cement delivered by barge.)
Excavate a foundation for the sarcophagus, outside the perimeter of the Frozen Wall, removing generator buildings and other structures as necessary, to a depth of at least 100', around reactors 1-4.
(The depth of the aquifer, the underground river, is approximately 100' deep.)
At the 100' depth, excavate horizontally underneath the reactors, and install a 20' deep reinforced concrete floor for the sarcophagus.
Construct a 100' buttressed foundation of reinforced concrete.
Remove spent fuel from reactors1-3, and transfer to Common Spent Fuel Pool (CSFP).
Spent fuel from CSFP and SFP1-6 to long-term dry cask storage.
(I have some ideas on this that I may get to later, if things ever get this far.)
Fill torus, torus basement, containment, reactor, and reactor buildings for Units1-4 with grout, or sand mix.
          Build sarcophagus walls around Units1-4.
Fill space between ruins and walls with sand.
Top with 25' of reinforced concrete, and a membrane roof to seal sarcophagus walls and roof.

"On 10 December, Germany’s new Wendelstein 7-X stellarator was fired up for the first time, rounding off a construction effort that took nearly 2 decades and cost €1 billion .”
“Stellarators face the same challenge as all fusion devices: They must heat and hold on to a gas at more than 100 million degrees Celsius—seven times the temperature of the sun’s core. Such heat strips electrons from atoms, leaving a plasma of electrons and ions, and it makes the ions travel fast enough to overcome their mutual repulsion and fuse. But it also makes the gas impossible to contain in a normal vessel……”

    "Mesocosm
studies, including both phytoplankton and their grazers, suggest
that species composition and population structure may be more
influenced by UV-B than overall algal biomass.186 These results
suggest that UV radiation may be a more important factor than
previously recognized in determining community structure in
    aquatic systems."

    http://srdis.ciesin.org/documents/UNEParticle_worrest.pdf

I think more UV-B is hitting the earth's surface and penetrating into the water column. Coupled with radiation from Fukushima makes for a distorted marine ecosystem.

We need to monitor global UV-B levels and get a handle on ozone destruction.

If it can be shown that atmospheric radiation reduces the ozone layer, that would be a cause for alarm in of itself.

  • Nick

"While the presence of aerosols anywhere in the atmosphere will always scatter some UV radiation back to space, in some circumstances, aerosols can contribute to an increase in UV exposure at the surface. For example, over Antarctica, cold temperatures cause ice particles (Polar Stratospheric Clouds) to form in the stratosphere. The nuclei for these particles are thought to be sulfuric acid aerosol, possibly of volcanic origin. The ice particles provide the surfaces that allow complex chemical reactions to take place in a manner than can deplete stratospheric ozone."

    http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Features/UVB/uvb_radiation3.php

Modern jet travel also adds aerosols way up high.

Industrial chemicals also waft up and deplete ozone….allowing for more UV-B penetration due to ozone destruction.

The Pacific Ocean is polluted everywhere, therefore a lack of food is throughout. How will this condition not spread with the myriad of pollutants continually created and flowing into the ocean?

It seems too that this is the similar condition that is created in the pristine aquifers with the frack process water.

Corporations must stop creating death conditions before everything is wiped out.

Merry Christmas? I've endured that expression for years. However, after the ritual 'have to's' and the preparation of the meal, the polishing of the silver. the washing of the special dinner service, the pinging of the crystal glasses (i.e. a once a year preparatory); I would poured a cocktail, prior, to the arrival of the guests. Ours was a melting Christmas. Pre air conditioning I would watch the elderly relatives, hoping they would not expire.

Off topic question? is it possible that high amount of radiation in a lake could help it from freezing? my thinking is each becquerel is a tiny heater , after walking the local beach today and seeing so little ice along the shore even with minus temps? even the little snow we do have is different.
just can't stop thinking of all the things that could be happening but no one to answer?

    • YR; according to Yoichi Shimatsu, yes.
If it is tritium that is in the water (hence, tritiated water, which we know comes out of Fukushima, for sure), this will prevent ice-crystals from forming. Now, I don't know if this statement has been verified or can be verified. I have not, yet, verified it.
If you want to try and verify it is true or prove it is false, I'd appreciate the time invested in reporting back.
I hardly have online time, these days, and have spent far too much of it IN here over the past few days.

    • Okay, well, it appears that semi-heavy water, or tritiated-water, freezes at a higher temperature than does light water (non-radioactive water.) So, I would expect to see more ice than less ice if we're going though a warming of just a degree or so, if Fukushima is putting out tritiated water.
The freezing point of tritiated water is about 38F. And we all know the freezing point of light water is 32.
Heavy water (Deuterium? I think) freezes at even higher temps.
And it seems the way they remove tritiated water from light water, in reactors, is by freezing it in temps too warm to freeze light water.
I don't know, for sure, if it works. BUt, they say it does and that all reactor buildings have an apparatus to do this.

      • Bottom line, there is a way to remove tritium from water, but no one does it, because it 'costs money'.

It is cheaper to just dump it.

Hope no one is watching; it looks just exactly like pure water.. so it must be safe, right?

        sarc

  • So, let's see; NOAA says it is lack of prey. That makes sense to me and to probably everyone else reading this article. But, what has brought about the shortage of prey-food? Oh, their prey died-off or disappeared, too? What say you? What caused this?
    Flabbergasted? Confused?
The sea life has not gone amok, It's just gone. Same with sea-lions (of this variety and more.) Will there be a large stranding? I don't think so, and this is why: When female mammals suffer from malnutrition, particularly lack of nutrition, they do not go through regular cycles. So, I believe there will be far fewer pups, this year, and next year, and on and on. Same held true for birds until birds stopped reproducing, all together, along the western coast (and other areas.) Even in Austin, the grackle is gone (is like a crow.)

When will, "Science", admit the truth? Perhaps a better question is this: when will scientists (ahem) work this one out?
What happened in the past five years that might have been the only thing to cause such a huge amount of death and lack of species? Only one thing, as far as I can see, and this one thing is Fukushima (and who knows how many other nuclear hellholes that may have also gone? We KNOW Daini flooded and was without power for at least a few days and that NOBODY cares, even on this site…)

      Irreversible..

Child abuse is the biggest selfinflicted wound of humanity imho..because unfortunatly it can get passed along tru generations..

Interesting that they can now physically detect that "irreversable" damage..i'm all for it to be used in court as evidence..i better not talk what should be done about the perpetrators.. too bad that figuring out that they usually are victims themselfes lockedup in a chain over generations..does nothing at all to heal the irrepairable damage..the only thing one can do is trying to make sure the damage stay's within oneself.. thats one hell of a lifepurpose..

      • Angela_R

May I, buy into this? i.e. the Irreversible.

Why? because there is a saying: "you can, damage (rape) my body, but only "I" can let you damage,(rape), my spirit.

By all means go for the damage to the body and what it did to the spirit……

Angela, you seem to imply that people choose to let childhood rape have an effect on their spirit. If so, that is balderdash and only adds to the potential feelings of guilt or failure. Your theory is poppycock whether you frame 'spirit' as a summation of personality (emotions and character) or as a separate non material possibly non mental 'thing' as theorized by philosophers, and doesnt help a sufferer of abuse.

      Talk about what?

Do you think this situation will improve when the Nuclear Experts have stated there will be no technology available until this new technology is created in 200 years or so..to solve the crises.

The Fukushima Radioactive Nightmare Train has left the station and all the discussion in the world will not change the end result of the pending crash and burn of our world that is now toast! 🙁

Best course of action right now is to arrest all the politicians now in office for allowing this failed Nuclear Technology to move forward unabated after the Fukushima event occurred.

DId you state that.. you do not want talk..about politics? 🙂

        Obewanspeaks:
All the more reason to back away to a 'safe' distance for the workers, and use standard construction technologies to sequester the Fukushima reactor ruins.
Japan should use industry standard construction methodoligy to build a sarcophagus, which would enclose the ruins of Units1-4 in a 30' thick sarcophagus of reinforced concrete, sides, top, and bottom, enclosed in an envelope of extra-durable membrane roofing material to seal in radioactive vapors, and seal the concrete against future earthquake damage.

If they develop technology 100, or 200, years down the road which can deal with the corium, great.
        Dig it up later.
For now, however, lets at least do the Fukushima Sequester, and build a Sarcophagus.

I agree with you, Obe, that we are in deep dodo.
But I do not think that there is nothing at all that we can do about Fukushima right away that will do some good.
And I do not think that nothing will be done at all, ever.
I do not think that all is lost.
I hope the human race comes to its senses soon, and gets its collective ass in gear on this problem. 🙂

Politics and revolving doors are what got us in this mess. And the other various and sundry apocalyptic messes we're in. Our foreign policy is dominated by the nuclear military industrial complex. Not going to make any sane choices with regards to our environment or our genomes or our future as long as that is the case. Ostrich as much as you want. Fukushima and any other nuclear disaster was and is the result of our lack of polital will and so is the cover up. Being politically oblivious isn't going to help the anti war or nuclear crowd at all. In fact it's why they are winning and we are whining. Sooo vote for Bernie Sanders. The only AntiNuke person running. If he doesn't win and we go to war and they start rounding up the antinuclear people that will make us political prisoners, you realize. Right?

    Why can you trust lawyers?

Because even when they are dead they lie still….

….It just so happens that my grandfather was a legal pioneer in electrical generating efforts, he worked for Roosevelt and the REA, bringing electrons to folks who never had them before.

He never met any of his grandchildren, yet his visions resonate across the decades and I can honestly say I ¨get¨ what he was about.

He cautioned us all about electrons and intentionally developed a property (that exists now) without electricity, reasoning that something was lost if we lived in such a world.

I have the awful task of managing this estate, and the tribe still abhors electrons (grid that is).

All of us need to look at our electron print.

I’ve always known, as any insightful person probably does, that collapse of our civilization would eventually occur. There was never any possibility that humanity could continue on its destructive path indefinitely. Sooner or later, we’d screw things up so badly, so completely, and with such irreversible effects that we would destroy any possible chance for “recovery”. I am convinced – although you may not yet be – that “that” day has now come and it cannot be undone by any means.
