Nov. 2 — “There was a “100-Fold Increase in Krypton-85 from November 1,” reports EX-SKF.
From TEPCO’s Nov. 2 press materials:
Comparison of testing done on Nov. 1 and Nov. 2 in Reactor No. 2′s primary containment vessel
Krypton-85 went from .0036 Bq/cm³ (3.6 x 10-³) to 0.53 Bq/cm³ (5.3 x 10-¹).
That is an increase of over 14,000% in one day.
One might wonder why Krypton-85 was chosen as an isotope to test for, when its half life is over 10 years.
This would seem to make it not the best indicator of recent criticality because it lasts much longer than, for example, xenon-133, xenon-135 and iodine-131.
However, according to a study published in the Journal of Environmental Radioactivity, “Krypton-85 is the best indicator for clandestine plutonium separations” when conducting wide-area atmospheric monitoring.
Also, EX-SKF writes, “According to wiki, ‘About three atoms of krypton-85 are produced for every 1000 fissions (i.e. it has a fission yield of 0.3%)’. It sure looks like a nuclear chain reaction happening, i.e. re-criticality, the possibility of which TEPCO’s Matsumoto has already admitted.”

Krypton is considered to be a non-toxic asphyxiant.[28] Krypton has a narcotic potency seven times greater than air, so breathing a gas containing 50% krypton and 50% air would cause narcosis similar to breathing air at four times atmospheric pressure. This would be comparable to scuba diving at a depth of 30 m (100 ft) (see nitrogen narcosis) and potentially could affect anyone breathing it. Nevertheless, that mixture would contain only 10% oxygen and hypoxia would be a greater concern.
The fate of xenon-131 from iodine-131 absorbed on the silver zeolite samplers
Wei-Hsung Wang
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate whether xenon-131, the decay daughter of I-131, was retained in or escaped from the silver zeolite cartridge after iodine-131 had been adsorbed in the cartridge. Currently, silver zeolite cartridges are used in the nuclear power industry to adsorb the radioactive iodine gas in sampling lines because of their high retention efficiency for gaseous iodine but not for noble gases. If xenon-131 is desorbed and escapes from the silver zeolite cartridge, the surfaces originally occupied by iodine-131 in the silver zeolite cartridge may be vacant and thus available to adsorb other iodine gas molecules. The reusability of silver zeolite cartridges may reduce the sampling cost and radioactive waste volume and also preserve the silver resource. A silver zeoli
Report Comment
A silver zeolite cartridge containing only iodine-131 of known activity in a cartridge holder was connected with a blank charcoal cartridge in another cartridge holder. The end of each cartridge holder was sealed so the diffusion of xenon was contained in a closed system. Radioactive xenon-131 m, the daughter of iodine-131, was used as an indicator for stable xenon-131. The absence or presence of xenon-131m on the charcoal cartridge was used to determine if xenon-131 was desorbed from the silver zeolite cartridge. A NaI scintillator was used to detect iodine-131and a HPGe detector was used to detect xenon-131 m. The desorption fraction of xenon-133 from the silver zeolite cartridge was found to be 0.66 ± 4.3% and the retention fraction of xenon-133 in the charcoal cartridge was found to be 0.61 ± 7.5%. Xenon-131m was frequently present in the charcoal cartridge. This showed that xenon131 was desorbed and escaped from the initial occupied sites in the silver zeolite cartridge after iodine-131 decayed. The amount of xenon-131m escaping from the silver zeolite cartridge fluctuated from day to day. This is thought to be due to what is known as the tunnel blocking effect. This effect has been described in the literature and involves the random location of xenon-131m atoms in the microscopic infrastructure of the silver zeolite.

Krypton 85 (85Kr) is a radioisotope of krypton.
It decays into rubidium-85, with a half-life of 10.756 years
About 5 million curies of the isotope was released into the atmosphere as a result of nuclear weapons tests between 1945 and the end of atmospheric testing in 1962. The 1979 accident at the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant released about 50,000 curies of Kr-85 into the atmosphere[4] and the Chernobyl accident released about 5 million curies.

This little piece of info though is special because it clearly shows that the reactors are still out of control, puking radiation into the environment, further contaminating Japan and North America. There is no known technology or process to get this situation under control, thus the situation will be ongoing until Japan is rendered uninhabitable.

So how bad could it be for the US west coast?
A few extra tenths of microsieverts per hour?
A little more radioactive iodine in the milk?
The Japanese are the people getting the serious fallout.
If it gets abruptly worse, the ability to cover it up is going to diminish significantly. The result will be more Americans finding out and turning against nuclear power.
We will have a high probability of being like Sweden, Belgium, or Germany, and the good outcome could be the eventual shut down of our most dangerous plants and finally doing something with spent fuel, and later on, shutting down of all plants.

I’m not so sure about that Americancommntr
I have no expertise but what I am reading suggests that things could get bad on the US west coast as food is increasingly contaminated.
Yuma AZ had 950 CPM beta last week and this is very, very high for readings that have been going higher and higher for 7 months and now seem to be spiking even higher.
The radiation has got to be accumulating in produce grown on the west coast and maybe in grains grown in the Midwest also.
That is what is so scary–radiation accumulating without end, growing ever higher….
Report Comment
I noticed this summer that several places in the Southwest also had extremely high beta counts the week BEFORE Fukushima began (if I remember correctly, I think they were in the 500/600 range then). I’m just not sure what is considered “normal” there because I know many places out there do generally have much higher levels than, say, the east coast, because of a combination of high elevation and high radon levels in the rock/soil (not in old bottles, just in the environment). Although I had heard about that before, I never imagined that they were THAT MUCH higher. I have no idea whether it’s nature, Fukushima, or Los Alamos, or varying amounts of all three. However, noticing the frequency of those very high readings was enough to convince me that I do not ever want to live out that way.

Hello AC,
You are so right. A little extra coming down and soon!
What is also true is we basically can not do anything but pray for the japanese and the easing of the suffrage yet to come.
We can do for ourselves here and now.
All the good folks here that choose to be aware of this ongoing world catastrophe have a choice to do what they can, or not. To help others see the light, or not. It’s all we all can do. In the background of your daily program, we all should be doing something to prepare for more fallout, and how much more is still to be seen. All it can seemingly do is get worse.
We should also pray your prophecy here comes true before anything else under the sun comes to pass and really messes those ancient reactors up thus causing even more disastrous evil poisoning of the people and environment.

I am so blown away! They knew,…they know!
“The estimated radiological impacts from some accident events postulated in the Draft EIS are among the most severe outside of reactor and reprocessing plant related events. They are also far more severe than the “no action alternative.” Given that the DOE/NNSA is planning to increase risks to the public considerably, there is a need to justify the project in detail to the public that will suffer these risks. A great deal has, in the past, been simply swept under the rug of national security, only later to be revealed to be gratuitously damaging to the health and environment of the people. It is worthwhile, in this context, to recall the statement of then-Deputy Secretary W. Henson Moore in 1989, during the administration of President George H.W. Bush, on his visit to Rocky Flatsin June of that year. Nuclear weapons production, he told the press, has been “a secret operation not subject to laws . . . no one was to know what was going on.” He added that “the way the government and its contractors operated these plants was: This is our business, it’s national security, everybody else butt out.”2
The skimpiness of the Draft EIS on the justification for a facility that will create significant risks (see below) is lamentable and raises the possibility of a return to these attitudes that should be consigned to regrettable footnotes in history books. The problem should be fixed in the final EIS with a detailed justification for the project including exactly what will be done in the new facilities. Based on the present information, it appears clear that the “no action alternative” is the soundest one among the ones enumerated. Further, the serious consequences of a main vault fire in the existing CMR building described in Appendix C indicate the need to perform operations there with a plutonium inventory that is significantly lower than the 200 kilograms indicated in the Draft EIS.”

Also see IEER press release on the CMRR Draft EISB. Air Emissions from Routine Operations
The Draft EIS shows that emissions to the air from routine operations would increase greatly. Current CMR emissions are stated to be 0.03 millicuries of actinides, including plutonium, with no releases of fission products or tritium. The new facility releases would be much higher. Actinide releases would increase by more than 25 times to 0.76 millicuries, and there would be significant releases of fission product noble gases, krypton-85, xenon-131m, and xenon-133 (100, 45, and 1,500 curies per year respectively). The new facility would also release 1,000 curies of tritium, mostly in the more hazardous form of radioactive water vapor.
The Draft EIS does not detail where the fission products will come from. The two xenon isotopes mentioned have relatively short half-lives (11.9 and 5.2 days respectively). Hence these would appear to be from some kind of hot cell operations in which newly radiated actinides would be processed. However, the Draft EIS states that the hot cell operations in Wing 9 of the present CMR building would not be transferred to the new facility. The EIS does not discuss where the irradiated material would come from. It also does not discuss any new hot cell operations, though these seem to be implied by the release in Table 4-21 on page 4-41. Finally, the Draft EIS does not mention potential releases of other fission products such as cesium-137, strontium-90, or iodine-131 even in case of accidents and severe fires. This is mysterious, since the presence of fission product noble gas mixtures is generally accompanied by the presence of other fission products. While these other products might be filtered out…

Conclusions on plutonium separation from atmospheric krypton-85 measured at various distances from the Karlsruhe reprocessing plant.
“For wide-area atmospheric monitoring, krypton-85 is the best indicator for clandestine plutonium separations. The detection and false alarm rates were determined from weekly samples at five different distances from the Karlsruhe reprocessing plant between 1985 and 1988. The detection rate for the separation of 4 kg of plutonium per week was found to be as high as 80-90% at a distance of less than 1 km, 70% at 5 km, 40% at 39 km, and 15% at 130 km. At distances up to 40 km, the false alarm rate is less than 3.5%. On average, the fuel released 28 TBq krypton-85 per kg plutonium. For weapons-grade plutonium, the krypton signal would be lower by a factor of 2. Hence, the given percentages correspond to the detection probabilities for the separation of a significant quantity (8 kg) of plutonium per weekly sample under the specific meteorological conditions of the WAK. The minimum separation rates that could have been detected are 2 gram of weapons-grade plutonium per week at a distance of less than 1 km, 40 g/week at 5 km, 200 g/week at 39 km, and 1000 g/week at 130 km.”

How krypton is a sign of disaster to come…
It wasn’t just the finding of krypton.
It is the amount of withheld information, the revocation of the public’s real time radiation sensors, The unprecedented rising of citizens radiation exposure levels.
On top of the fact that tepco Is officially asking the government for help with the current daily operations.
What help could a political agency give to a Nuclear power plant; Aside from requesting international support?
In my opinion the fuel is becoming dangerously unstable at an alarming rate. So tepco is worried about the plausibility of a large scale release of radiation, and or complete failure of containment.
After all…
You wouldn’t just call the president of the united states
over a little spilled milk would you?
So in reality the Krypton only stated that Nuclear fission is now 100% confirmed to be taking place inside the reactor block 2. Which in terms means that the fuel is unstable.
Unstable nuclear fuel is not a good thing.< —
And I’m afraid In light of the situation at fukushima. This news is a harbinger of more very terrible news to come.

Panic is typically a syndrome of an event. So My suggestion would be Dependent on the estimated level of impact that the event would have on the location.
For instance If I lived in Japan. I would be at an airport boarding a flight to South America. (today and literally).
In fact I would have evacuated Japan as soon as March 12th.
If I lived on the West coast (as I do), I would have a building with a below ground basement or central apartment pre-planned in an emergency evacuation plan to use as a button up room.
That way in the event of a catastrophic radiation release or explosion I could grab my Buttonup / Emergency go bag. (Which is pre packed and ready to go)…
Making my way to my safe room, where I could listen to my emergency radio, until I was forced to find alternate shelter…
