Title: 5% of Fukushima residents need immediate psychological care, survey says
Source: Kyodo
Date: Apr. 27, 2012

About 5 percent of nearly 90,000 Fukushima Prefecture residents who responded to a health monitoring survey need immediate psychological care, the Fukushima prefectural government said Thursday. [...]

The result was based on responses on interview sheets that included questions such as if they were having trouble falling asleep and if they were unable to concentrate.

Of those needing immediate care, 3,291 were of high school age or older and 1,311 were of junior high school age or younger [...]

In a separate survey of pregnant [Fukushima] women [...] 1,298, 14.6 percent of the 8,886 who responded, showed signs of depression or strong anxiety. [...]

Pardon my french, but "Oh F*&K me!" So this is TPTB's next step, immediate application of psychoactive drugs, to help control "their anxiety"!?

I really wish I could apply my past assumptions to this and just write it off as being a silly overreaction. It just seems like the scriptwriters on this show aren't playing by any of the normal rules. What rules are they playing by?

Sorry Jill, but you are wrong … as I know from personal experience with anxiety, especially, and depression to some extent.

Granted that removal from anxiety and/or depression inducing situations can be the long-term answer, but often it is impossible to quickly leave a bad situation, e.g. domestic conflict or more general troubles, and after-effects will linger anyway, as PTSD demonstrates.

Medication (appropriate of course) IS the answer to minimizing the crippling, emotional effects of trauma, e.g. tranquilizers enable one to function reasonably well, whilst such effects as panic attacks can virtually paralyze, or lead to irrational action.

There is no essential difference between a medication for a "broken mind" and a plaster cast for a broken leg.

In context: people in Japan cannot just up and leave – most never – so medication IS the answer to the situation as-is. It is irrelevant that, ideally, Fukushima had never happened, just as ideally one would not have accidentally broken a leg and needed a plaster cast to enable some mobility/normalish functioning.

With luck you may never find out how wrong you are.

I would HATE to see thousands of Fukushima residents all in a state of withdrawal once the anti-depressants run out.

cymbalta, Prozac, etc. can turn the strongest person into a suicidal wreck in 2-3 days if they stop the med cold turkey

ATTN: JAPAN! Fusco's Chernobyl Legacy pix are no doubt contributing to their anxiety…a better remedy than pharming it out is…

Print those pix BIG, attach them to poles, and HIT THE STREETS, occupy govt (public!) Buildings and MAKE THEM FIX IT somehow with money and care for the public health…

Have your babies at home, that way they can't just whisk them away for disposal when they look like Belarus babies…take them out in the streets with you…MAKE THE WHOLE WORLD LISTEN!!!

(US is now pulling all troops off Okinawa, hmm!)

The zombie phenomenon taking hold as predicted? Any link to the mad cow phenomenon? How can something turn a perfectly good brain into swiss cheese? 1 Particle of Pu? 1 Particle of Ra? One thing is clear. There is a substance that crosses the blood/brain barrier and does damage. The membrane just can't take the abuse.

  • 154,300 Pound Meteorite hit the Earth last night
It landed in fragments in the Sierra foothills of California.

The meteor probably weighed about 154,300 pounds, said Bill Cooke, a specialist in meteors at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. At the time of disintegration, he said, it probably released energy equivalent to a 5-kiloton explosion. The Hiroshima bomb was 15 kilotons.

"They" the scientists tasked to protect us from such things, knew nothing about this until it hit the atmosphere at 44,000 miles and hour, getting so hot that it didn't burn it vaporized.

These same think tank expert types are the ones telling that nuke can be made safe, that we can "soup up" the clunkers and get even more power out of them, that only a handful of people ever got hurt by radiation from nuke.

The draw of the science, the sexiness of it all on the surface belies the ugliness of the denial that blinds.

mark_eric, maybe free association? Are they playing by whatever comes into their heads? I agree that sometimes we can see their rationale, but, so many times we can see there is no rationale and only deceit.

TheBigPicture, that's an interesting point. Perhaps it also becomes a public relations way to say that the disaster is really rather small, after all, and a little counseling or drugs is all that is needed. Maybe a local official sincerely hoping to get some help for the local population? Maybe a government PR campaign minimizing the problems? Both?

The thing is this – we never really know which? Is this completely deliberate? Or, is the worldview so different between pro-nukes and no-nukes, that we can't recognize sincerity in the other?

5% needing urgent psychological care? easy 10% in most places……maybe the 5% in question is pre-Fuku disaster, On a really good day.
but then, the term "urgent" may be a bit of a grey area, like "immediate" when it comes to public health in Japan.

If there wasn't a nuclear problem, there wouldn't have been an increase in depression in the first place. It's only a natural reaction. Yeah, just give 'em meds and dampen their mind like zombie…you know.

I am thrilled that Anonymous has posted this video. Say what you want about this social anomaly, I have berated them on their site for missing the boat on this myself, but they have a following of young people that believes in their messages. This is exactly what needs to be done. The middle class peoples seem to be too busy trying to live the dream to pay attention to their own demise. This is really a tipping point for this issue with the younger crowd. This will occupy their minds and maybe will cause more pressure towards the MSM to cover this serious game changing event.
Go Anonymous, you have finally found your calling and now have a reason to be!

Yes it is very good news. The occupy movement had way too many things piled upon the table and now they have found the one issue on it that is so very important to all life.
They seem to be the voice of the youngest set and will allow many to come to their senses.
After all, what is money, power, influence, and 99% to 1%, if we ALL are being irradiated into oblivion.
I just hope that we are still only at the edge of the cliff, looking into the abyss, and have not already been pushed over the edge…

You need a (free) YT account to post comments on YT. You should be seeing your nickname in the upper right hand corner of your YT screen.

If you click on the box where your nickname appears, you should see your account settings, including whether they think you are in "good standing" in various categories. That might tell you whether they have some issue with your comments, and perhaps you could pursue it from there.

It seems to me everyone who works in the Government, anyone who works in any type of position, spout the Gov's stance on the situation – "everything is SAFE" "eat your veggies" Even the newscasters spout the Gov's line. Yes, and radiation is good for us. You can say what you want…quote what you want…litsten to what you want…the truth is, THC is medicine. All medicine carries an inherent risk. Like x-rays and ct scans. The doctor knows they are bad for us but the good outweighs the bad. So if I have a little stress when I medicate to kill cancer, it's worth it. Even though, I don't believe everything I read. I do believe in results.

Anne,….I did NOT know that! I agree from some of the readings,…it does appear to raise our stress hormone of cortisol! But,….so does radiation,…which doesn't make it right,…but may not be the thing that got me. This was on the third site down that you posted Anne,..
" Marijuana use at 2-10 puffs, one to 16 times per day caused reduced pain and … moderate marijuana use does not change the levels of sex hormones levels such as … follicle stimulating hormone, prolactin and cortisol in men and women."

I smoke 4-5 puffs, five to six times a day, when my back and neck are so ONFIRE I cannot stand or cook anymore.
I also smoke when my gastroparesis makes me vomit all day.

These are things I simply cannot live with. But, not sleeping will take me out faster I know.
