Japan less likely to trust officials, main media, since disaster, Los Angeles Times by John M. Glionna, December 18, 2011:
Day One
Hajime Shiraishi’s moment of truth came when her online video news show, at the time relatively unknown, decided to buck the government line and call a story as it saw it.
On March 11 [... Tepco] announced on national TV that all was well [...]
Mainstream media dutifully reported that story. But not Shiraishi’s “Our Planet TV,” which soon broadcast a live interview with five Japanese reporters in Futaba City [...] The reporters, who had covered the Chernobyl disaster, told a very different tale.
Chernobyl Reporters: We’ve Never Seen Anything Like It
“They held up Geiger counters showing the level of radiation was almost beyond calculation,” said Shiraishi, a former network TV journalist who co-founded the Internet venture in 2001, hosts the show and reports many of its stories. “They’d never seen anything like it.”
For Shiraishi and others, that broadcast was a turning point, a moment many see as marking a profound shift in the trust younger Japanese place in government and media. Since that show, “Our Planet TV” viewership has shot up from about 1,000 to more than 100,000 as people have begun to seek alternative sources of information.
Just Learning About Fairy Tales
“As soon as we broadcast anything about radiation, viewership just goes through the roof,” Shiraishi said. “People tell us that they’re now just learning that what the government has been telling them all along might just be a fairy tale.”

Beyond calculation… that is my opinion as well…

Next…TEPCO will put out some “official” radiation amounts…falsified numbers to bolster the cold shutdown
fairytale. Nowhere….absolutely nowhere in range.
Report Comment
TEPCO numbers, multiply any figures by a million. Oh wait..10,000,000 if in milliseiverts. Seriously the credibility of TEPCO and the government(s) is discredited. No one can take ANY numbers or statements provided by TEPCO at face value-except the government spox around the world. Was horrified by statement congratulating Japan for “cold shutdown”. Crazy. Government(s) are desperate to hide THEIR failings and misinformation about the radiation danger ongoing at Fukushima.

dont know what happened there? but heres the lyrics so you can sing along too!!
Just take a walk, around this country, There’re nuclear plants, total fifty-four
All the textbooks, CMs on TV, Said they’re safe, forevermore
Now it turns out, that they had duped us, And their excuse:, “Beyond their assumptions”
The good old sky, stays the same, But now we find, black tickling rain
It was a big lie all along, But now it’s come to light after all, Really a big lie all along, “Please be assured nuke power is so safe”
It was a big lie all along, I truly miss safe spinach and all, Really a big lie all along, They must have known for sure how it would be
No one can stop this radiation from flying around in the wind, How many people have to get it till they finally face reality?, This nation’s government
I hear you got out, out of this town, Have you yet found, good water to drink?
Why don’t you tell me?, No, never mind, Nowhere to flee, No place I can find
(interlude)
It was a big shit all along, All those electric companies, Not only TEPCO, but each of them, We’ve no illusion about them any more
It was a big shit all along, But still they wanna keep going on, Really a big shit all along, I feel I gotta do something about it

A similar fairy tale is being spun by the official expert committee regarding the nukes here on hold because of people’s protests after watching the horror of Fukushima and its continuing exposures:
See
Re: Govt suspects foreign hand behind nuke protest, launches probe
New Delhi, Dec 18, (PTI):
Suspecting foreign hand behind protests against Kudankulam nuclear plant, the government has launched a probe into functioning of six NGOs in Tamil Nadu and a notice has been issued to them seeking explanation of utilisation of funds received from abroad
http://www.deccanherald.com/content/212627/govt-suspects-foreign-hand-behind.html
@Gupta: Yes nuclear power programmes consume all the power they produce and more. And add to this the unacceptable danger of these for all time. The nuclear power programmes can be substituted excellently by changing life styles, substituting the all eggs in one basket with living energy and making dams redundant by intelligent practical ecological reforestation.
Kudankulam Nuclear will increase the cancer rate in Tamilnadu by 125% or even more than the present level.See the health effects of Kudankulam at

I don’t really mean to sound like a smart-ass know it all. In fact I am devastated beyond belief by all of this.
I am dismayed that “I” – non-tecchie English Lit. major that I am – “can see clearly now” what seems to befuddle so many. This is major bad news!
Man, the whole world, statistically speaking – taken as a whole – is out to lunch and yet seems to be functioning at capacity!
Given the ‘sorcerer’s apprentice effect’ – what are the implications for the continuation of life on the planet, except for those unicellular organisms that evolve to feed on radionuclides and toxic chemical waste?
Golly gee whiz Batman. The facts are there for all to see, and it really doesn’t take a rocket scientist to ‘do the math’.
I mean – does it? Are people really that stupid that simple putting 2+2 together and coming up with an answer is beyond them?
Apparently so, and that is why we are SCREWED.
Chernobyl was one reactor.
Fukushima Daichi is however many – four I guess. And then there is Daini – God knows what is going on there, if anything.
Chernobyl, bad tho it was, was put an end to (in terms of radiation spewing forth) – for the time being (as entombment fails over there, gradually – I mean, 250,000 years – plutonium’s life span – is a hell of a long time); Fukushima is on-going.
Chernobyl was located smack dab in a largely unpopulated spot surrounded by miles and miles of buffer zone low population area. Fukushima is smack dab in a small and densely-populated country.
So does it really take a rocket scientist to be able to do the math here? … and come to the conclusion – after lo, these many months – that Fukushima is way way way way way worse than Chernobyl?

P.S. to my above comment …
Isn’t it pretty clear by now that to the gangstas running this planet – we – all of us – are ‘acceptable losses’?
And if they are sailing awfully close to the wind in terms of the survivablilty of the planet … well, it is a high stakes game, and winner take all… and sociopaths after all are risk-takers and ‘a kind of crazy’ … and sociopaths are the ones who claw their way to the top of the power structure…

A few famous last words for you (posted yesterday):
“It’s simply impossible to imagine anything like Chernobyl happening in these reactors, despite all the problems they’re having.” http://www.npr.org/2011/03/14/134543680/sizing-up-japan-s-nuclear-emergency-no-chernobyl
“There is no question of a Chernobyl situation or of anything like the same threat to human health and safety … An accident like Chernobyl cannot happen again—this is a reactor of a different generation. Even in the worst-case scenario of a total coolant failure, the radiation released will be hundreds of times less than from Chernobyl.” http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2011/03/13/why-japans-nuclear-meltdown-is-no-chernobyl.html
And get a load of THIS one:
“Just as important, said Iskhatov, the Japanese authorities have ‘acted quickly and effectively to communicate with the local residents—they don’t treat their population like idiots like ours did.’” – March 13, 2011 http:/www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2011/03/13/why-japans-nuclear-meltdown-is-no-chernobyl.html

Why does TEPCO and the Japanese Gov’t want to declare it’s Fukushima disaster Stable and more importantly, what do they hope to accomplish by doing it now; Is it a trail balloon?
A. If the people “swallow” this Nuclear Baloney (NB) then TEPCO and their other Gov’t Leaders get to keep their jobs and march onward toward a nuclear future while the Nuclear refugees are “encouraged” to return to their Fukushima homes; letting history be the judge of whether or not this was the RIGHT decision.
B. The people of Japan reject the concept of a “cold shut down” in which case TEPCO, in time, gets nationalized and Japan develops a 20 year plan to replace it’s reactors with solar of all flavors!
C. The people of Japan are insulted by what TEPCO and their Gov’t is saying and take to the streets to DEMAND immediate change. TEPCO and their Government overseers are both swept away in order to placate the people of Japan. The Nuclear Refugees get settlements and the area around Fukushima is closed to all but scientific personal for the foreseeable future. Japan’s PM pledges to “race” Germany toward New Japanese developed Solar and being Nuclear within FIVE years…
The Japanese people are now at a cross roads that will define both their future, their children’s future and possibly the future of Nuclear Power on Earth!
What will they now do:
…Bow to TEPCO?
… Accept their Leaders vow to do better?
…Or Demand much less Nuclear ASAP?
This is a decision that only the Japanese People can make;
… I hope they make US proud of them!

Once upon a time, there was a salesperson and a couple of his friends who came to town. They promised the residents clean, safe, low cost or almost free energy forever. They promised high paying jobs, and a secure, peaceful future for all people.
What did they deliver?
BILLIONS OF YEARS WORTH OF POISON AND DEATH
Long half life radioactive elements
Part I http://www.care2.com/c2c/share/detail/3047473 Elements 1-9
Part II http://www.care2.com/c2c/share/detail/3048444 Elements 10-13
Now? low paying jobs where workers expect to die. Many disappear. Over 800 have disappeared at last count… where did they go I wonder? Could there be a cold storage room at a local medical teaching center that is full to the brim with dead radioactive bodies?
As far as this energy being cheap? Well, the company is now close to being bankrupt, and would probably disappear, except that the taxpayers are now being forced to pay through the nose to TRY and clean up the mess that these quack salespeople created.
As far as being truthful? These quacks are still telling lies, like the plant is now safe and people can move back into the neighborhood. Another lie is that the things released from this plant called FUKU are ‘harmless’ and will not hurt anyone as long as they smile enough. Another lie is that the radiation is only around a very short time… a few days, a few years perhaps, and then it all magically disappears.
Another lie; radiation does not hurt anyone, the more of it you get, the healthier you become. Another lie; that internal radiation does not hurt you, and external radiation is not the cause of cancer, genetic diseases or anything else.
These quacks do not want to study or measure anything on their own to see if what they are saying is true or not. They also block all attempts at people coming in and measuring or looking what is going on other than just himself and a few of his salesperson/marketing buddies.

N☢T a great story but 100% factual!
Many Countries are being “played” the same way s Japan and ALL their reactors are Trillion Dollar Eco-Disasters just waiting to happen by Nature and or Man!
What then?
That is why I use the term Nuclear Fascism; because they want to control the source of Energy so they can stay in Power!
Report Comment
@CaptD: Yes that is true indeed! Well they can’t control the power of the people. Thats why they dont want pedal power feeding the grid via grid tie inverters with islanding facility!
At 7 billion, we can devise our life styles in which we can enjoy our own power to the tune of say 2 billion people times 50 watts per head energy capacity or some 200000 MW peak power at 100 Watts peak per head! People are born non-clonally and as part of a grand cosmic design must grow with tender loving care from infants to old age. When we pass away we are accepted by Mother Earth seamlessly and are born in bewitching magnificence of reproduction…For example in India we lived for millennia at a constant population of 120-140 million in harmony with nature and supported such a population(Disregard the propaganda that we had a short life and diseases killed). They do not have any data base on that! They collected data only from around 1850 AD!
See http://indiapopulation.blogspot.com/
They took away forests from us and now they are taking away all the commons and all the land away from us. We are up against nukes.See http://deathdealersnukes.blogspot.com
for priceless data collected by the British on our population so we see the effect of nukes compared to no nukes prior to 1945!
See also the effect of modern civilization’s dams as they brought about the great American Pandemic Flu in 1918 at
http://stopflowcatchflu.blogspot.com/
Now they want to impose costly energy intensive pv cells on the immensely superior people! And other machines & wasting people’s power. Until and unless we with tender loving care enable nature to regenerate sufficiently so the sun could be used fully, we have to wage a long struggle. But they say the the world’s gonna end by 2012 because of modern civilization. Still we must employ a way of life now so we can live in health for a long time after stabilizing(not a la Fuku!) our lifestyles to a level of health and happiness like Gita’s…
