Forecasters have sped up the possible landfall by two hours. Isaac is still expected to be a category 1 hurricane with 90 mph maximum sustained winds at landfall. Isaac remains a very large storm and poses a significant storm surge risk.

Isaac is expected to slow down as it makes landfall, keeping a threat for very heavy rains in the forecast Tuesday through Thursday. A lot will depend on the exact track Isaac takes through south Louisiana. There remains some uncertainty in the exact landfall spot, but the shear size of Isaac makes that almost a mute point.

You couldn't write a better plot for a disaster movie. Its like some kind of macabre destiny.
I'm hoping the deluge transforms the combustion danger and collapses the thing.
Otherwise its just unnerving that of all places to land, its aim is for the sinkhole.

Hard to think what hurricane could do to this witch's brew-toxic stew of radioactive materials, butane, methelene____, etc.

The quicker it hits, the less time over water it has to build strength. Looks like a Cat 1. The big questions now are how wet is it and what's the atmospheric pressure? Since the storm is fairly weak, not dropping pressure much, the rainfall estimates are the telltale as far as sinkholes go on this one. A fast moving storm doesn't gather as much water. But that we'll know in real time as it falls. Watch the radar when it makes landfall.

Kind of odd how a hurricane put the damper on two Republican Conventions in a row…
What are the odds of that happening? No matter where they move it, a hurricane will find them.
