Title: Japan Oppositions Eye Free Medical Costs for Radiation-Exposed Kids
Source: Jiji Press
Date: Feb 17, 2012
Emphasis Added

Japan’s major opposition parties drew up Friday a bill to exempt from medical fees children exposed to a certain level of radiation due to the nuclear accident at the crippled Fukushima No. 1 power complex. [...]

The opposition bill calls for investigating the radiation doses of children under age 18 who stayed in Fukushima and surrounding areas after the accident and reducing or waiving entirely their medical costs if their exposure exceeds a certain level.

The bill urges the government to offer health checkups for children eligible for the program throughout their lives.

Charge the unemployed children to rest their sickly souls? Demand payment from children that alpha, beta, and gamma have taken their tolls? I say the nurses and doctors should donate their time, we shouldn't charge the precious children a single dime. If the healthcare businessmen make a single peep, commandeering their facility would surely make them weep.

Sad thing is there are people who still believe the government works for them and cares about them. The regular citizen won't even question why Fukushima children are left to rot and will still support nuclear energy. It is like the Pavlovian response. Please, whip me more master! Thank you!

Imagine if a group of doctors and nurses formed a socialistic hospital for radiation affected children. The business middle men taken out of the picture would cause healthcare costs to plummet while benefits and pay of the employees would skyrocket, while also giving them all a say in how the hospital is run. Perhaps, it would help the children of all Japan get the help they need if enough hospitals structured like that were founded.

    • Sadly, the medical/drug/radiation industry is also a monopoly, so it seems to have many of the same problems that the nuclear power industry does..

It does not ALLOW competition inside of itself that would reduce costs, improve results, and focus more on a holistic healthcare model…

When was the last time you saw an acupuncturist, herbalist, nutritionist or ayurvedist inside of a hospital or clinic?

Until this top down, profit motivated monopoly is broken, nothing much will change… although a single payer system may be a step in the right direction.

The treatment for the gravely ill children is not very high tech. The healthcare wizards will tell you they need machines with graphs and dials that go beep beep beep. All they really need is a warm comfortable bed, clean water, a good meal once in a while and maybe an IV. How expensive can that be? All the magic in the world can't save a victim of a lethal dose. But, recovery is possible for just under a lethal dose.

    What are these "certain levels"?
Will other opposition parties join in?
Will it pass in the parliament?
Will it be worth the paper it's printed on if it does?

I agree or-well. From what I sense, it's an attempt to ingratiate themselves with the electorate. What really troubles me is how they leave it up to the 'government' to determine when limits have been exceeded. Haven't we seen this movie before?! Why would they allow a government, that's known to be in collusion with TEPCO, be empowered with such life-and-death decisions; especially when we're talking children! Once a child's illness is found to be attributable to radiation-related exposure, all treatment should be free.

      It stinks…from the head down…

And, when and if 'they' get going,…the 'Health Centers', let's call them,…will they have full body scanners? (I doubt it). Will they actually REMEDIATE, (remove) isotopes,…(I doubt it). Gosh I'm cranky!

@StillJill: as you're doubtless aware, other than naturopathic modalities (detox therapies), there's little-to-nothing that can be done for those who have already been contaminated with radiation. There lives will be one long scar from here out.

I doubt allow for-much emotion in my life, but all of this makes me want to cry…

Based on my guidence from my doctors, at Johns Hopkins, for autoimmune disease Vit D (and Calcium) is usually LOW. And Vit D allows uptake and use of calcium in your bones. Keeping yourselves "topped off", not with a toxic amount of any vitamin, is important. Like Iodine, its best to have an adequate amount of the correct type of vitamin. Then may not uptake as much as the bad radioactive materials as a replacement. Same for thyroid, the safe and correct substance such as Iodine (in salt, seafood if its tested neg for radiation), or KI is critical to keep from storing the radioactive Fukushima Iodine products. KI is a a one time thing to get out of a danger area, for children more than adults. KI is not for daily use and has its own side effects. And somehow people MUST check for iodine and other radiation fallout in their locations, taking whatever precautions they can, especially for children.

Due to the fact everyone is staying inside, (and especially for women) the calcium and Vit D are vital,in correct doses. From my doctors and handout from http://www.hormone.org, the following is the guideline. For adults, under 50 yrs Vit D 400-800 IU, Calcium at LEAST 1000 mg! over 50 yrs, 800-1000 IU and at least 1200 mg calcium. If a person does not have what they need in Check the site for additional information. And the doses are for ADULTS, female and male. Not trying to give medical advice, just repeating what is published for peoples information.
This is not much, and I am not a medical expert, just a person who has lived with the results of being near Chernobyl Fallout. We picked just GREAT places to be at the wrong times. Please stay positive and do smart actions to protect your families. This stuff does not go away, but you had do everything in your power to survive for your children. Admin, if this is duplicative, or repetative deleate this post.

            • Calcium and magnesium are always found together in Nature.

Taking calcium by itself may eventually cause problems..

Even simple combinations can cause problems. I took calcium/magnesium/zinc for years, and started getting inflammation. Guess what happened? Excessive amounts of zinc cause inflammation… I dropped this supplement and the inflammation problem went away.

So how does this happen? If you Fill in a hole in the street, it will level out the pit. Now if you Keep putting stuff on top of the former hole, now you end up having a huge pile, and an even worse problem than the hole.

There are natural foods that combine high levels of naturally occuring minerals.. with much less problems than with taking single supplements.

Plus, most people do not like taking pills.

Bottom line, there is no hard and fast black and white answer that applies to everyone forever..

But the body never lies, so if you learn to trust your body and follow it, you will end up with the right answer.

      • There are some things modern medicine can offer, but drugs and radiation are focused mostly on symp-toms, not on root causes in most cases.

The natural health approach is much kinder, gentler, and has a preventative focus, which takes into account the WHOLE person, not just the sypm-toms of some dis-ease.

Not every problem needs a sledge hammer and cutting torch.

I am not advocating replacing the whole system, but it definitely needs the MAJOR influence of holistic health modalities.

Surely if the Pentagon can set up free medical care clinics in Kauai for the public, then surely the Japanese government can offer free medical care to its children:

  • I find it ironic that single payer (free) healthcare provided by the government is EVIL Socialism or Communism in the eyes of Conservatives.. This concept that is what most civilized countries have, but it is NOT found in the USA, and never even got discussed in the committee. The most common reason for bankrupcty in the US is due to excessive healthcare bills, even WITH insurance.

Yet, in the SAME breath, Republicans attack viciously if there is talk about cutting free healthcare for the military, much less cutting the military budget, which also comes from the same EVIL large government, with a bloated military budget. Currently, we are dismantling and cutting all social programs, but INCREASING the military budget in the USA.

I find it interesting how both of those fit into the same political belief system and actually get implemented.

ALL those employed by the government get 'FREE' health care, paid for by the taxpayers. Hence it's socialized health care.

Seems all those living in their snug little ivory towers don't like the hoi polloi to have anything 'free', meaning we get to pay for theirs and ours too.

More generally, anything described by any government as "free" means that it must be paid for by someone other than the recipient.

Governments can give away only what they first take from someone or what they print out of thin air, and in the process a substantial percentage always sticks to government fingers.

If people ever catch on to that basic reality, the game will end.

  • There is plenty of money to do whatever a community wants to do, while providing for the basic needs of everyone, if the community can vote DIRECTLY on all issues. But democracy has been hijacked in the USA.

The problems start when huge corporations come in and monopolize the voting process, spin the media, and take over all of the levers of power as well as money supply.

When profit is the only measure of a democracy, then democracy disappears into a corporate controlled dictatorship with two arms (Democrats/Republicans) It does not really matter who votes which way, because there is no real choice. Corporations own both arms.

Monopolies are the result. This is where greed rules. Then society suffers from wild up and down swings as greed alternates with bubble collapses… as well as catastrophic overwhelming accidents caused by lack of long term strategic planning.

No answer for nuclear waste? No problem.. just store it on TOP of the reactor, which may blow up.. Right, that is GREAT long term strategic planning, with the safety of the community and future generations in mind..

    HELLLLLOOOOOOO Out there.. Wakeeee Wakeeeee…

Smelling the plutonium yet? You never will…

      "Smelling the plutonium yet?"… Pu!

      Quote follows from http://dailyreckoning.com/

"Hillary Clinton calls up Egypt, Syria, Libya, and China to “democratize.” But democracy, as practiced by the US and other developed countries, is a fraud. It is just a way for the insiders to scam money and power from the outsiders, by pretending that the voters are in charge.

Just ask how many taxpayers would vote to spend about $10,000 each on the war against Iraq?

How many would vote to spend $1.60 for every dollar in tax revenue?

How many would vote for the latest mortgage deal…where homeowners who saved their money and paid their mortgages are forced to make up for those who bought houses recklessly…and then couldn’t make their payments?

How many would vote to bail out Goldman Sachs…Bank of America…or Citigroup?

But voters never get a chance to vote on the issues. They vote for candidates…financed by insiders, with agendas the outsiders cannot even imagine.

The word ‘democracy’ arose in small, Greek city states, where the voters actually voted on the concrete issues, not just the slippery candidates. Citizens voted to go to war…knowing not only that they would have to pay for it…but that they could be killed in the battles themselves. War was a matter of life and death, not just a campaign slogan of a chubby, middle-aged draft-dodger.

The Italian city states practiced real democracy too. In 15th century Florence, for example, citizens voted on whether or not to build a cathedral… Then, they voted on what shape it should take.

A scale model was built. Citizens knew what it would look like. They understood how it was built and how much it would cost them. They cast their ballots and took responsibility for the outcome.

American democracy, circa 2012, has no more in common with real democracy than American capitalism has in common with real capitalism. Both are degenerate…corrupt…and geriatric."
