Pacific Northwest

  • Slide at 49:30 in — Northern shelves: jet-like advection of the surface plume explain the short but intense exposure.
  • 42:20 in — You can see that it is not a homogenous advection, you’ve got this jet here. This jet was consistent across the ensembles, and it’s been observed also in other studies. It advected the plume faster, at about 40°N [latitude].
  • 49:30 in — The surface plume is traveling very fast toward the coast of the US.
  • 50:45 in — The northern shelf, we have the jet-like convection that creates the first impact with elevated concentrations.

California

  • Slide at 49:30 in — Strong Ekman divergence delay the arrival of the surface plume. but mode water formation and subsurface 3D pathways explained the prolonged moderated exposure.
  • 50:00 in — [Subsurface] water created between 2011 and 2014, that will travel and reemerge later off the coast of California… in 2021… We can see this color here of high concentrationPersistent upwelling… sources its water exactly at this [subsurface plume’s] depth… this upwelling will source this water from the contaminated water and release this water into the shelf area for a while, for the longer term… They will have longer exposure because of this sinking contaminated water that went  across… and then comes up about 10 years later.
  • 58:30 in — I averaged the concentration over the shelf… It doesn’t mean you’d measure it right on the coast, on the beach. I took 150 kilometers along the coast. Southern California for instance it might have already reached the coastal area, essentially because of the upwelling, it might have already reached the outer shelf. I don’t know if they’re doing any kind of measurement.

  • Bay Area Guy 2

    Of course they are measuring.

But the little people will never know those measurements.

    • We Not They Finally

Bay Area Guy 2, thanks for pointing out (what I would call) the base criminality of that. Instead, we have the EPA telling us in advance that their new deliberately criminally post-lethal standards are "safe." And since most people don't even follow that, they have no way to contest it either.

But they never would have put the post-lethal standards in place at all except if they WERE measuring, then lying that killer radiation would be "safe." "We lie, you die." What a way to run a government.

      • Gabe Gabe

        Of course they lie.
The rules of engagement have changed, yet most Americans refuse to accept the new REALITY, or rules of engagement. MIT is now the mission of the US government to destroy as many citizens as possible in as short a time as possible while being certain they have plausible deniability. FACT!
THE US GOVERNMENT NO LONGER WORKS FOR THE PEOPLE. THE US GOVERNMENT IS A CORPORATE OWNED KILLING MACHINE. YOU HAVE NO WORTH, EXCEPT TO DONATE TO THEIR COFFERS WHILE STILL ALIVE. THE QUICKER WE ALL DIE, THE BETTER. THEY HAVE NO LONG TERM NEED FOR US AND WE USE UP THE RESOURCES THAT THEY, THE WEALTHY, WANT TO KEEP FOR THEIR BASTARD PROGENY OF THE FUTURE.
Better wake up, folks. This ain't shits and giggles elementary school play time. You had best figure out how to get each and every encumber politician put of office and then begin criminal proceedings against them. Time is running out, if not all ready gone.

You can say MIT + IT as far as my experience goes with these hard hearted genius physicists don't want to live on the earth with the stupid people that aren't getting 3 doctorates….They don't like stupid people, well a few smart people do hang out, but I've heard their killer attitudes. Funny thing happened on the way to the bank, lol, massive heart attack of an MIT physicist….yeah, I used to hear his attitude, it was mean…they could have told us about radiation being dangerous, but he sucked down cigarettes with polonium in them….When they say radiation is not as dangerous as it is…it's just smart people doing stupid things being deadly to lesser intelligences as a sorting process which was really them all thinking… 'I should have more money and time on earth than you I'm very smart'. This earth, it was created somewhere along the way for karmic resolution…all the brains in the world does not matter at this point, karma matters, rules. Earth a galactic nurturing seed planet but now trying to get back on track after a million years of karma crap, it is promised we will not have these issues in the future especially because it can't get any worse, people can't believe in nuclear energy solutions. more info: TheGalacticHistorian on youtube. All is not well however there is a change going down, that reality goes to a lot of different things, nothing like we now know it but I gathered to get back on track, everything, like it was a million years ago on earth

As always, EneNews provides facts that enable readers to understand what is really happening. Here we have a careful, serious analysis that makes clear that Fukushima Daiichi is an ongoing global environmental disaster. It also reminds us of the outrageous behavior of 'scientists' who consistently refuse even to mention the possibility of radiation causing or exacerbating widespread wildlife death on the North American west coast.

    • We Not They Finally

Well, the scientist above is breaking the mold. Thank goodness someone is.

      • Time Is Short Time Is Short

This guy is full of shit. Everything he is saying was true within 3 days of 3/11, not 3 1/2, going on 4 years later.

Over 90% of bio-life in the Northern Pacific Ocean is already dead. North America is next (Japan is a write-off).

The spread of the children's respiratory infections is a symptom of compromised immune systems. Add Ebola in a few months, with a 50% kill ratio, and we're pretty much screwed.

It kills the kids first. Then we're next.

        Buckle up.

    • Gabe Gabe

We only seem to address Fukushima here yet other reactors on the eastern side of Japan are also a problem.

      • HoTaters HoTaters

All the reactors in Japan are a potential problem. Wondering how many of the 14 reactors or reactor sites said to have been "close to melt downs" are still having issues. There was never much said about that.

  • Jebus Jebus

Ya, 1287 days. The atmosphere and the ocean are continuous and massively dynamic beyond any model. Nature is a fractal.
    You can not model that.

Fukushima fallout was halfway around the northern hemisphere by 3/30/11. Fukushima is a continuous radionuclide release. By atmosphere, by ocean, or by food. It's in you and bioaccumulating.

Does anyone think that Fukushima's radionuclides by ocean is not here yet?

Nuclear Power by Tepco, we deliver.

Cowardly supported by the Nuclear Industry, we only sell a dose.

Ignorantly analyzed by Nuclear Health Physicists, we suck at this, but hey, they're payin' us.

Foolishly financed by regular people like you and I, we never got a vote.

    Fukushima is forever. Next…

    • Ya, well said Jebus, I never gave too much thought that nature cycles will also be fractal cycles like the stock market and so many other things.

Seems like this would be an Elliot 3 wave down, with a small bounce to the good and then a final run to the worse and a tipping point.

      Boy that is sad.

Brilliant analysis, Jebus. All I can come up with is they Suck, they really, really Suck. Stupid, lying, polluting, greedy cowards. Thanks for destroying the Northern Hemisphere, Nuketards. I hope your having fun with the billions of dollars you made destroying our planet. Idiots! How's your caviar now? Do you prefer it percolated in plutonium? Have some Saki with that too. I heard its great and you can help support the farmers from Fukushima. Whose lives you ruined. Pscho nuketards! Bottoms up.

Melting Mermaid, there is some consolation in this: if there's nowhere for us to run, and nowhere for us to hide, then there's nowhere for the nuketards and all their proponents to go, either. Life in DUMBS doesn't sound too appealing to me.

Remember, the US alone is about to lose 175 million people. There won't be much of a drain on the existing power supply after that.

Over 4 billion dead in a couple of years. This is no accident.

What would even be left for "terrorists" to do? Distribute the poisons more efficiently? We're already being terrorized by people claiming that that's a GOOD thing.

Of course, with WIPP, they apparently have begun to store the contaminated barrels from New Mexico above-ground in Texas.

Was this article a PR ploy that people should just go ahead and ACCEPT that?

Only real selling point (though what it is selling is death!,) is that at least if a blow-up happens above-ground, you might get close enough to test for radiation readings. With WIPP, there is no word that anyone ever got back down to panel 7 at all. It was sealed off due to high radiation.

Another note about above-ground: What you can (just) see, is surely not what you are going to GET!

So, after the pic of the new york times cover, in the third paragraph-

"…the LNT exaggerates the risk of doses below 100 mSv, completely misunderstands the cumulative effects of chronic low dose exposure…Doses in the repairable range do not add to the risk of a later dose; there are numerous studies that indicate a priming effect where an initial dose makes a living organism less susceptible to a later dose…
A large resulting man-Sv number from a radioactive material release to a very large population of people is likely to have no health effects as long as all members of the population receive small doses."

Is he seriously pushing this? If 'm not mistaken, is he referring to that bat shit crazy hormesis theory?

"If this truth is recognized by regulators, it would have a significantly positive effect on easing an exaggerated fear of radiation…
It would vastly reduce the potential cost of an event by reducing the need to evacuate people and reducing the terribly unfair consequences of being forced by the government to give up access to private property that has been contaminated to a non-harmful level"

How fortunate that the Internet brings global viewpoints. Dr. Rossi co-presented an earlier Fukushima study in 2013:

    http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S096706371300112X?via=ihub

Excerpt: "Based on our source function of 22 Bq/m3, which sits at the upper range of the published estimates, waters with Cs-137 concentrations >10 Bq/m3 are projected to reach the northwestern American coast and the Hawaiian archipelago by early 2014. Driven by quasi-zonal oceanic jets, shelf waters north of 45°N experience Cs-137 levels of 10–30 Bq/m3 between 2014 and 2020, while the Californian coast is projected to see lower concentrations (10–20 Bq/m3) slightly later (2016–2025). This late but prolonged exposure is related to subsurface pathways of mode waters, where Cs-137 is subducted toward the subtropics before being upwelled from deeper sources along the southern Californian coast. The model suggests that Fukushima-derived Cs-137 will penetrate the interior ocean and spread to other oceanic basins over the next two decades and beyond. The sensitivity of our results to uncertainties in the source function and to inter-annual to multi-decadal variability is discussed."

I don't think Dr. Rossi will be punished in Spain for his research. What is the White House going to do? Call in the Spanish ambassador and chew him out? I doubt it. The Ugly American viewpoint has many supporters outside North America.

    Concern over another WIPP drum
    Sept 18 2014

    http://www.abqjournal.com/464099/news/concern-over-another-wipp-drum.html

In a presentation to state legislators Tuesday in Carlsbad, Terry Wallace, Los Alamos National Laboratories’ official in charge of the investigation of what happened at WIPP, said it’s still not known what started the reaction. Previously, lead in the glove from a worker that processed waste has been cited as among the potential igniters.

A second LANL drum with similar contents and which is in an unsealed area of WIPP also is said to have a glove in it, Wallace disclosed at the Tuesday meeting.

“I cannot guarantee that second drum won’t go (have a chemical reaction), nor can I guarantee that all conditions are likely to make it go,” Wallace said, according to a report in the Carlsbad Current-Argus

    Pitching the glove bit again.

  • Heart of the Rose Heart of the Rose

Lead in the glove…caused the reaction?
    How so?

  • Once again we are shown that dispersion of radiation is a myth borne from an irrational conclusion that all radiation leaks will disperse in the same even, diluting pattern as atomic detonations through air. That is like saying that all things that fly are kites.

  • Or, like saying that all things that float are boats. The radiation did not disperse in air nor water as assumed from studying detonation models as the ONLY dispersion pattern possible, as though it were in the nature of radiation to only move away from itself rather than also clump together and interact with itself. That abused theory is the result of minds giving about three minutes of thought to the subject and then leaders giving about 45 seconds of their time to the issue when considering public safety from radiation.

    • Basically the Thor's Hammer effect I foretold about when I first crawled out from under my rock after skull cancer recovery. This is now more like what it has been. I wonder what the actual damage REALLY looks like. From the sky damage I am seeing here, it is NOT good. The weather has directly been altered here in a climatic duel of decay heat, & a weird El Niño, La Niña equilibrium as a result.

        Greetings Onto,
As I try to get up to speed on these ELEvents, I find many uncharted areas.

Consider this item, perhaps of major proportion. As Tritium levels in the ocean have increased by orders of magnitude, and H3O has a different freeze/boil/EVAPORATION constant than regular water. Perhaps we can imply the great drought of California IS FUKU related. The timing certainly does overlap.

Onto, I have NEVER seen cloud and weather patterns like what I'm seeing in California this year. If we could financially afford the move and loss of livelihood, I think we'd probably move to Central or South America, and as far away from the Pacific Ocean as possible.

It's scarey bad looking out there. I've been seeing yellowish-green in the daytime clouds here for at least the past couple of weeks, in the morning and at mid-day.

Are there similarities with this report & the govt scientists report on warming water?..I believe that the govt report here http://enenews.com/govt-scientists-very-unusual-occurring-northeast-pacific-unprecedented-historical-record-extends-all-across-pacific-japan-dramatically-reduced-productivity-17000-square-kilometers-could-se/comment-page-1#comment-576259

cont..is to hide the actual radiation…there has never been, nor will there ever be a GOVT. report that tells the truth…they have something to sell or something to hide..something that the taxpayers will soon be required to pony up. The hair on the back of my neck is still standing up. We all know here never to believe any govt body especially those claiming to be scientists..who are not only paid by taxpayers but also by lobbyists. What kind of testing have you done?

    • Daisy207

Unless you have data I don't think you can say that. If the government has data – and they must – they would be reporting it to the ends of the earth if it were clean. Within 4 days of the #3 explosion everyone in Washington, Oregon and the northern half of CA and Canada were breathing 3-4 hot particles a day. No one was warned to stay inside for a week or more. You have star fish wasting on your shores among other evidence. Tritium has no boundaries – behaves like water – you breath it in the mist, in your shower if its in your water supply and cook your food with it and drink it. Easy to measure but no one is doing it.

Certainly west coasters have already been exposed to intense radiation. FD caused a spike in infant mortality. Lukemias, lymphomas and bone cancers have been seeded into the unsuspecting over the globe by now. These articles make it seem like nothing has happened of consequence yet when the reality is that when #3 blew up it spread radiation globally like nothing else ever has.

  • obewanspeaks obewanspeaks

Yep, many came down with cancer right away and others are simply getting into Line C and they do not even know it..these guys are very good at what they do.

"… hedge funds now pulling away from the California housing market."
    http://www.doctorhousingbubble.com/big-investors-california-llc-lps-purchase-volume-cash-sales/

….for the waters of FD-NPP are coming to the West Coast.

The radiation will not just stay in the ocean, some of it will evaporate into the atmosphere and precipitate onto the land.

Add in the atmospheric loading to date and I would say hedge funds will remain leery of CA. properties for the foreseeable future.

The best test for radiation in your area maybe a bit anecdotal:
Just ask your friends and neighbors how their sleep patterns have been of late. Their stress levels? If the answer is trending negative, you may be witnessing a very human biological response to radiation.

Remember…it is the FEAR of radiation that is the most stressful.

    Awake yet?

Yeah Nick – I remember walking along the ocean in the Pacific Beach neighborhood of San Diego and marveling at the costs of the properties there. The Sunset Cliffs and La Jolla areas near by are even higher.

We worked on several large transmission projects there where the salt in the air had corroded overhead lines to the extent that it diminished their capacity to carry current. New buried lines were installed. The lovely coastal breeze will carry a deadly hitch hiker now. It will settle on plants in the ubiquitous fog along the coast for centuries. The lovely environment there is the only thing that made that state livable.

Read today, that respiratory distress disease is now in California. Good thing it started in the midlands or us crazies might think it has something to do with the greatest radiological disaster of all time and die from worrying. Nothing more embarrassing than dying from stress in the middle of a nuclear catastrophe.

  • Daisy207

Again they only model CS – what about PU, I, Am, Sr, Tritium etc. If CS is there so are all the other nasties. People on the west coast are going to get very sick I fear – too sick to move and no one to move in to take their place. And just how far inland is this stuff going to spread – especially the tritium. Someone needs to check with the Vets on the west coast and find out how many pets are currently being affected – their nose is close to the ground. Also farmers who raise livestock – to see if the symptoms are showing up.

  • I left a comment on the NRC blog, here is the answer from them, seems like they are not even trying to keep up the pretense of "engaging the public"

    Dear Stock (stock@hawaii.rr.com):

We have referred your blog comment to NRC’s Office of Allegations; therefore, we will not be posting the comment on the blog.

    Thanks for your comment.

Those consideration alone with not allow nuclear to “operate safely in the community”.
They should all be far away from communities, all the Mark 1s should be shut down, and a direct cost analysis compared to Solar PV with all outyears costs including on the nuke ledger should be forced, including competitive bids for solar farms with or without storage as needed by the load profile and other RE sources.
Nonwithstanding, there are multiple instances of drug and alcohol abuse within the industry, including a worker at Kewaunee pounding beer in containment while on duty.
Mixing humans and criticality reactions is wrong on such a basic level. Thank you. REFRESH: In Nuclear Power Plants – Behavior Is Under Observation

"What Are the Lessons Learned from Fukushima?"
    http://www.nrc.gov/reactors/operating/ops-experience/japan-dashboard/priorities.html#tier-03

Somehow I don't get the sense that the nuclear industry's lessons in the aftermath of the Fukushima Fiasco will ever be "learned."

Except ofcourse the need to lie and stifle public discourse.

No one on the West Coast will benefit from ANY of the NRC's lessons learned since Fukushima and other reactor crap is IN the biosphere and IN
    all West Coasters.

    nuclear stats:
    http://www.eia.gov/nuclear/reactors/stats_table1.html

    See if any of these
websites address Fukushima's toxic marine loading to any real extent:
    http://www.ans.org/
    http://www.world-nuclear.org/
    http://www.iaea.org/

Remember, the nuclear industry worldwide is trying REAL hard to assure us all that Fukushima was a bump in the road and that we can just go on fissioning like nothing happened.

    But folks, it DID happen.

No extra drug tests for nuke employees or massive seawalls, or triple backup generators or deeper waste mines will mitigate, one iota, the wayward atomic energies floating and wafting over the Pacific Ocean.

Do not be lulled by their sense of "lessons learned." Tis all a bunch of
    horseshit.

ChasAha – NRC Office of Allegations = Dead Letter Office. If you are expecting actual dialog with the NRC try attending one of their public comment meetings. You will get the run-a-round there as well.

If they truly had learned anything, Stocks comment above 'shut down the mark I's would have already been written to law.

Lately I have been reading "The Elegant Universe: Superstrings, Hidden Dimensions, and the Quest for the Ultimate Theory" by Brian Greene (Vintage Books 2003)

As I spiral down into a look at matter on the minutest scale my sense of urgency to us all has increased exponentially.

If the wayward atomic energies from the Fukushima Fiasco and other fission piles and fuel pools make their way into our multicellular selves much biological mayhem will (is probably already) occur.

I am convinced that GMI is under way. Global Mass Insanity.

Why else would we continue to split the atom?

  • The often out of the way small town settings where many nuke plants reside makes drinking an easy hobby.

This 21 YO girl indicates how a superior supervisor at the nuke plant gave her clothing emblazoned with "Dose Babes" and the crew went out drinking where she got 4 beers for $1.

Just saying the potential for alcohol and substance abuse is high in these scenarios of remote locations and good pay and not much to do. It's an inherent problem, not a failing of the NRC per se.

    Rennhack:
    Talk About: Kewaunee

    Jill:
;D Kewaunee, now thats a fun place! The people there were the best to work with, all the house people were very nice and went out of their way to teach you anything you wanted to know. You don't find that at many places. The BMOC (big man on campus, Craig Long) was really great to work for. He even made us (the girls) sweatshirts that read "Dose Babes". I miss all the house techs there. 🙁
The area was nice, I was 21 at the time and was blown away when I went to the bar and gave the bartender a dollar and he gave me 4 beers! I knew if this outage went much longer there could be a problem!

"Sea stars do not function underwater in a vacuum,” said Representative Denny Heck, who represents the South Puget Sound area. “They are in fact a keystone species vital to the ecosystem. When these species face an epidemic, we must engage the scientific community in an organized, rapid-response approach to determine what can be done to halt the damage to our oceans. This could be a sign of a deeper problem.”

Notice this data is very old {almost 36 hours old} This sensor is still offline…
        Gamma Data also peaked at:
498 CPM of Gamma in energy range 600-800keV

        ——————————————–
Station ID 5:724 Kearney, NE, US
        Spiked to 359 CPM Gamma, {same time frame}
        then flatlined also.

        ——————————————–

I reviewed other data points on the netc Beta site.
A few showed smaller [but synchronized in time] spikes.
A hand full went off line [flat line} during this event, then recovered.

TOTAL BULL SHITE that a monitor conveniently flat lines as this spike passes by… Feel like a mushroom yet?

Anyone else working 12 hour shifts and commenting before and after work?

    Fukushima Radiation and Fish
    Sept 16 2014

"The derived intervention levels instituted by the FDA for food are outrageous, 160 BQ per KILO for strontium and 1200 BQ per KILO for Cesium."

" MILES O’BRIEN: In New York, at Stony Brook University, Nicholas Fisher is focused on radioactivity in fish. He studies the ultimate sushi delicacy, bluefin tuna. These amazing creatures spawn near Japan, migrate to California, then return to Japan. He measured tuna caught in San Diego four months after the meltdowns.
NICHOLAS FISHER: We were quite surprised to see that every single fish we analyzed had clear evidence of Fukushima-derived radionuclides in their tissue."
