Title: FEATURE-Japanese town’s dependence on nuclear plant hushes criticism
Source: Reuters
Date: Thu Jan 26, 2012 9:51am EST

Japan’s nuclear disaster has eroded trust in utilities and shown residents of the rural, mountainous region of Fukui the risk of radiation [...]

Residents of Ohi now wonder if the operator of their plant can be trusted. But few are willing to voice such doubt.

A unnamed politician who supports the nuclear industry in the town of Ohi in central Japan along the coast of Fukui prefecture, known as the “Atomic Arcade”

  • “Considering Tokyo Electric’s tendency to hide information, I think that Kansai Electric may also be a company that cannot be trusted”
  • “But we have reasons why we must”
  • “We recruited the plant somewhat knowing the risks, but the degree of dependence on it has grown, both financially and in terms of employment”
  • “It’s a society where we can’t easily speak up”

Tetsuen Nakajima, a Buddhist monk in at a hillside temple in Obama city

  • “I have a sense of crisis that the promoters of nuclear power and Japanese public won’t be able to repent unless a second Fukushima takes place and I absolutely want to prevent that”
  • “After having received money related to the nuclear power plant like a form of drugs, this region’s capability to nurture its economy independently and actively has declined”

  • Very good analogy… He says it is like getting hooked on drugs.. I know that it is VERY hard to get off the addiction to whatever it is. Right now many countries, communities and individuals are addicted to nuclear power, nuclear weapons and nuclear medicine.

Just like a dealer and an addict have a relationship which is hard to get away from, nuclear power sellers and communities have that same dysfunctional relationship also.

On an individual level, if an employee has 10 or 20 years into a company, why would they risk it to complain about what they see ‘wrong’ with it? It is often better to stay quiet and show up for work and then retire in silence, than to say anything to anyone, even if it means the entire community is being poisoned.

It is not an easy choice to make, because it may mean consequences in all directions. But every employee does make this choice… and every community member as well as leaders also make this choice by allowing nuclear power plants to keep operating, nuclear weapons to keep being produced, etc… without saying anything, without doing anything.

Silence allows all kinds of bad things to happen..

The pro-nuke establishment is beginning to show cracks in its structural integrity.

Reality and the need for disclosure is slowly wearing away at the layers of denial and coverup.

The victory is finally beginning to be won, but at what cost? How much has already been lost? Is it too late to avert disaster in the form of global ecological catastrophe, and millions of future dead and dying people?

Yes, you can speak up! Form an ‘Ex-nuclear addicts’ group and spread the word rather than radioactive particles.

Being fired can open up a whole new world. Which would you rather be? Wealthy and dead or poor but alive?

    Choose wisely.

What was that saying they always used to chant in DARE? I think it was “Crack kills”. They should have said the same thing when nuclear got it’s hand in the Japanese cookie jar. If they don’t take a stand against what they feel is wrong than the people who took the crack known as “nuclear power” have a crack problem. Some communities address this problem by aggressively chasing black people. In nuclear’s case it’s an easier solution because you know where they work (and unlike crack addicts they have jobs) so finding the criminals is not such a hard task. By the way I’m black so I understand how the Japanese people are having hard time tracking down the crack in such a “drug free” society. Personally if I had my choice between crack and living withing 250km of Fukushima I would take my chances with the crack.

MONEY is the drug, the addicts are: Bankers, CEOs, Politicians, Governments, Celebrities, Scam Artists (not ALL of any of these, but surely MOST)…

The NUKE industry is no different than the BIG AG/PHARMA/CHEM industry or the WEAPONS industry…the day we can make ABJECT GREED the crime it deserves to be, we the people shall truly be FREE

Hail all you Whistleblowers! We honor you! You who know the pen is mightier than the sword (or the bullion) are our Real Heroes! God bless and keep you all safe as you do your good works!

We now are being ruled by those in Nuclear Denial*; instead of by Leaders that demand an end to the Trillion Dollar Eco-Disaster RISK that Nuclear poses to mankind! The nuclear industry is fighting tooth and nail to maintain it’s market share yet NOW Solar (of all flavors) is far less to construct, faster to construct and carries with it N☢ Nuclear radioactive baggage that can kill an economy and or those nearby!

People in the Western World, need to reexamine the “way” they view Japan and that includes not only how that Country is governed but what actual “say” the Japanese people have in their Governments process!

It has taken almost a year to realize that Japan is actually being “run” by its Powerful Utility Companies and this “business” relationship extends in a “Control Continuum” that extends at one end, from actual Utility direct financial support of the highest Government Leaders in the Country, to the widely known use of organized gangs to keep citizens in line at the other!

The idea that individual Japanese people actually have a say in how they are governed, much less the way their Energy is generated, is just a well publicized fantasy that the Utilities uses to put a nuclear “smily face” on the grim reality that ever facet of Japanese life is less important than what is good for these Utilities! These Powerful Utilities ARE Japan, and the Japanese people are only “forced” customers of these Utilities since they have no other choice of providers when it come to basic needs like electricity, at lest until now! Solar panels have allowed many to get the electricity they need and this is a huge threat to these Utilities, that must be “crushed” ASAP if they are to maintain their complete control over the Japanese people!

Ever since 3/11, the rest of the World’s attention has been focused on the Trillion Dollar Eco-Disaster at Fukushima and Japan’s response to their triple melt down. What we have learned is that the Government has allowed TEPCO to not only remain in Control of this debacle but they have actually enabled the Utility to place huge numbers of Japanese citizens at risk rather than demand that the Utility think first of human health instead of Corp. shareholder profits. The fact that radioactive pollution has now spread Globally and is affecting the rest of the Planet is hardly mentioned in MSM which points to an even greater…

    Con’t

The fact that radioactive pollution has now spread Globally and is affecting the rest of the Planet is hardly mentioned in MSM which points to an even greater problem for the rest of mankind; we are helpless and as yet unable to demand any “better” treatment from Japan because our own Leaders are for the most part are in full support of the those Utility backed Leaders in Japan.

Kudos to Germany and many other Countries for pointing the finger at Nuclear Power and the Trillion Dollar Eco-Disaster RISK every nuclear complex now represents! People globally now are becoming informed and starting to demand answers to basic questions and once people start asking questions perhaps change will occur, even if not for the Japanese themselves… one thing is for certain, the Japanese people will be affected by their Trillion Dollar Eco-Disaster for much longer than the estimated 40 to 100 years that it will take to “tidy up” after Fukushima…
