Title: Equipment Problem Suspected As Cause Of Nuclear Plant Shutdown
Source: CBS Chicago
Date: Jan 31, 2012
[...] While officials say everything was under control as of early Tuesday morning, the plant shutdown rattled some nerves on Monday. [...]
Officials say the situation Monday is not a huge concern. They claim it was the lowest of four levels of emergency.
Still, the plant has been the focus of controversy ever since it was built. Area residents are worried about the potential for groundwater to be contaminated with radioactive material.
Patricia Carter of Byron, IL
- “Well, I kind of panicked”
- “The first thing I did was go get those [potassium iodide] pills they’d given us”
- “My niece called and she told me to stay in the house, so that’s what I did”
- “I never worried about it – But it was always in the back of my mind – if it did blow, what would I do”
Teresa works at the nearby Sunrise II Family Restaurant
- She tells WBBM Newsradio everyone is on edge
- “A couple came in and told us that they saw steam, and so they went up there to see, and they’re like, ‘Oh my God, is everything OK?’ and they were a nervous wreck”
- Teresa said she hasn’t seen any steam coming from the plant Tuesday morning

Exelon says Tritium is ‘natural’ even though it is found in higher amounts near nuclear power plants.
http://ex-skf.blogspot.com/2012/01/update-on-byron-nuclear-plant-diesel.html
I am amazed that they did not suggest eating bananas, taking in some xrays while people are waiting to see what will happen, and then going on a jet plane ride.
Yup, tritium is natural all right, just like death from cancer causing stuff like tritium and toxic radiation from man made radioactive elements.
Dr. Caldicott MD says Tritium is highly carcinogenic, which means it is causing cancers. The cancer rate goes up in children the closer they live to nuclear power plants. They regularly release all kinds of cancer causing radioactive materials, including argon, tritium and many others.

Oh yea, and don’t forget to ‘smile’ … These nuclear medical experts in Japan around Fukushima say that will protect you from all harmful effects of radiation…
Uh huh …. and if you believe that, I have a bridge on the moon I can sell to you; CHEAP. Only a million bucks. Own your own bridge to nowhere on the moon, and it will make you smile. I will throw in a second bridge to nowhere on Mars at no charge.. What a deal.
I will even throw in some ‘natural’ tritium, which powers the UFO ships flying around. They will buy it from you, and you can make back your 1 million bucks in about 24 hours. Then you can go visit your two bridges and take a walk on them.
Only serious inquiries..

Exelon has amazing lobbying and government clout:

In one sense, everything on earth is natural….except the products of nuclear power. This is the only thing humans do that creates elements that have never or barely been on this planet. Elements that are intrinsically deadly to human life and that we simply have no way to get rid of. Good luck to us, we’re gonna need it.

I expect someone to have the “cure” for radiation. Things are going really far, and all we have is “luck”.

I have a feeling some of the rods are not being cooled as they have shield’s have malfunctioned, if steam is still coming out tomorrow, I will say we do have a problem there !
It should not be generating steam at this point and that is a LOT of steam, will have lots of fission isotopes and daughter products in it also !
Someone check the air down wind QUICK !

Xdrfox,
I agree, if it looks like a duck, quaks like a duck and swims in water, it’s a duck (in this case serious nuclear accident probably comparable to TMI).

Nuclear is not a Smart Energy Choice.
The facts are speaking for themselves.
Loud and clear.

I don’t think nuclear was ever an energy source, energy was just a by-product to the manufacture of nuclear materials for weapons…it was the cover story we all believed….while the US stood up and told other countries to give up nuclear weapons, the US was quietly creating more supplies and calling it nuclear energy.

“Area residents are worried about the potential for groundwater to be contaminated with radioactive material.”
And they should be?. There is no question that it will not. Infact it is a guarantee. Who the hell still believes these people?
Report Comment
Don’t worry..the radioactivity came from the NON_radioactive side of the building…whew, had me wooried with all that talk of tritium…..tritium ours in water!!!! Water that has been routed around a completely contained container, so it’s safe. Don’t you get it? Safe!

They weren’t supposed to do whatever it is they did until it was warm outside. That way no one can see the steam……..

La Nina has provided us with a warm winter this year.

I saw news video of steam rising from what appeared all around one of the reactor domes. The pictures above show it rising from around buildings.
Should such steam not be vented from a stack? Is is normal to vent steam close to what appears to be mostly only one or two stories up?
I’ll bet they are lying their posteriors off.

I assume they are going to tell “it has no immediate effects on human health”

Is there a non-Nuclear side of a Nuclear Plant? Oh right like the flat side of a round PLANET. Like the sweet smell of the south side of a horse traveling north. I have many many relatives within 25 miles of that poison factory. My uncle helped build it, he is not happy with the way the industry has lied to people.

Obviously you have not been to nuclear school…
The basic facts are as follows;
Nuclear power is safe, as long as you keep smiling. The sun rotates around the Earth and the earth is FLAT, and you will fall off if you do not get permission to shinny down the ladder from the boss down at the plant as rumored to be reported by someone at the plant.
Everyone knows that there is a non nuclear side to all nuclear plants, which is located in the men’s bathroom of the control building, in stall #3. Look for the secret compartment under the toilet paper container.

Why are so many reactors having trouble in the past year? Did they all reach old age at the same time, so it was to be expected? Or are we having more reactor leaks and shutdowns and power failures than usual, and maybe it’s a bit odd?
In my estimation, every meltdown or major release makes it more likely we will have yet more meltdowns and releases because the people running the plants will become increasingly radiation-addled. Thus the vicious cycle.

I find it odd that everyone makes comments in the past tense as if everything is fine now….we are still a couple of diesel engines away from Whamo…..

Using a wire brush in 2008 cleaning pipes and have it break through the pipe to cause a leak is running pretty thin !
Report Comment
Why no press tours through the reactors?
Why no press tours of the running diesel generators?
Why no open and transparent radiation readings with Geiger Counters present for all press and journalists to take video of?
I saw one reporter standing quite far off from the reactors.. You could hear the ROARING of the vent and see the steam coming out of the reactor building..
It did not sound ‘normal’ or ‘safe’, although that is how they are portraying this…
Report Comment
It’s ‘normal’ for nuclear power plants to spew ionizing radiation and…’safe’…umm, this is as safe as we can ‘expect’ to be with nuclear experiments dotting the planet. This is what the nuclear industry has deemed as safe for the world. For the sake of nuclear doom production, we have sacrificed our former expectations of safety and normalcy. This is the new-clear version.
Report Comment
This is the same story that was told after the TMI accident.. no immediate harm, within safe limits, ad nauseum lies and coverups…never any actual radiation readings, radiation monitors ALWAYS are 'defective' if they show high readings, and no one seems to know anything specific.. despite all of them being experts.
