June 30, 2012 post by Koichi Oyama, Minamisoma city council member, translated by Dissensus Japan:
75 micro SV At a house located in Minamisoma Kodaka-ku
The air dose is about 5 micro SV, and the surface dose is about 10 micro SV.
Radiation is more from the surrounding trees and buildings than from the ground.
[...]
Minamisoma is not designated as “areas where is problematic to live in”.
[...]
I feel as if we were being killed slowly because of the slight expectation of the administration side.
[...]
Our rights ensured under the law shouldn’t be offended, and I refuse to be used as a guinea pig.
This is infringement of human rights.
Even the administration declared that the city is not safe enough, meanwhile the evacuees are requested to return home, schools restarted, and decontamination stands still. I want everyone in the world to know that we are eating and aspiring in constant fear.
Such a absurd situation is allowed in Japan in 21st century.

"Radiation is more from the surrounding trees and buildings than from the ground." – city council member
I think it's coming at us in many ways.
(accumulating/concentrating/spreading)
…and ongoing.
…and with tremendous known potential for even far worse.

When humans can no longer enter a reactor building because of extreme radioactive conditions then it should be called what it is.
Out of Control! – Multiple Meltdowns!

Koichi Oyama: You are not alone. We have watched the Japanese Government lie to the people without hesitation. They must believe Japan is broke, and connot afford to relocate all who are in danger. Perhaps, academic studies have indicated that millions have already received a fatal dose of radiation, and further evacuations are pointless. Either way, any official of government that puts people at risk by knowingly and intentionally lying to the public is a criminal. Let it be known by all in Government, in Japan and around the world, mind that you tell the truth to the people, lest there be an accounting at some point in the future. In the meantime, our thoughts are with you as you struggle with the Fukuproblems. No nukes.

Not just Japanese stations..US says 10s of thousand, so not the 100s of thousands..or even 100,000..or ??? So far everyone is following the "JAPANESE" Party line. One has to wonder, what is it Japan has to blackmail the rest of the world to keep silent? Or is it fear the rest of the world will wake up and understand their nuclear plants have the same deadly potential? Or is it the rest of the world has been quietly doing exactly the same as Japan, emitting radiation from nuclear plants and exposing THEIR citizens?
Could radiation emissions from nuclear facilities be the reason for rising clusters of leukemia, thyroid cancers, miscarriages/pre-term labor, cancer and developemental issues such as autism? Now you can't blame one cause, such as radiation, on all of these illnesses –BUT it doesnt help if people do not get the true facts!

shut nukes down, shut TV down….well…..wouldn't we need to shut congress down? and the courts? yes! even capitalism itself.
Nationalize the entire energy sector. Outlaw the 2 corrupt partys, imprison their leaders. Its got to be the whole enchilada.
No more BP Gulfs, NPPs or lady gag me's intinerary. its all or nuthin. The power structures that enslave and poison us are sooo intertwined, we just gotta rip the whole band-aid off in one clean jerk. Rip. half measures are suicide. we all know it in our hearts.
New earth centric people oriented media. We own the air waves. WE CAN DO THIS. No more huge corporations. Localize. Incentivize. No too big to fail banks, hell, we wont even need wall street, most of the charlatans running it will be in the big house.
You may say i'm a dreamer. But clearly our beautiful Mother earth cannot withstand ANY More capitalism. All oil company profits belong to humanity. All secrets do as well. We will have to open up the CIA, FBI and all aspects of the area 51 angle. We the people own all knowledge. It is our birthright. September eleventh being properly investigated will get the ball rolling. In the long term chess match goodness always wins. If our next moves are strategic, victory will come much sooner and with out an ugly interval.

and as we are eradicating capitalism, (if indeed we are serious about ending nukes) the new jobs will be off the charts in new worker run clean energy industry.
So, to reiterate: it's all or nothing. Do not just begin to think outside the box. Climb the hell outta the box, break that sucker down and recycle its ass. Paradigms must fall. We create a new dawn for the species or perish.

If no one joins me, I may have to do as irradiatedinbako mentioned about her man – he was a lone person with a candle trying to stop nuclear. I'm close to having to join him.
I have more details in my head, but I wont reveal them here on this site (or others) due to concerns of being compromised. Maybe as they take hold can I begin to describe them. We'll see.

Hi richard,
good alternatives to the current system are desperately needed. I'll never stop promoting this for inspiration:
http://www.transitionnetwork.org/
"What is a Transition Initiative?
These communities have started up projects in areas of food, transport, energy, education, housing, waste, arts etc. as small-scale local responses to the global challenges of climate change, economic hardship and shrinking supplies of cheap energy. Together, these small-scale responses make up something much bigger, and help show the way forward for governments, business and the rest of us.
Really, it's the opposite of us sitting in our armchairs complaining about what's wrong, and instead, it's about getting up and doing something constructive about it alongside our neighbours and fellow townsfolk. And people tell us that as a result of being involved in their local "transition initiative", they're happier, their community feels more robust and they have made a lot of new friends."

Dude it is not the "capitalism" that is the problem….that is what they want you to believe to accept the next atrocity, to promote dissent.
the greatest lie "it is the capitalism" as they promote the New World Disorder, very orderly for them, very sucky for everyone else.
It is the corruption, not the capitalism
Capitalism with rule of law is the best system, although not perfect.
Don't be fooled

Stock, I agree. Undergirding all of this — and the corruption — is fundamental moral bankruptcy.

At this point I'd like to recommend an outstanding historical novel which sheds light on our current situation: A Pillar of Iron, by Taylor Caldwell. It's about the life of Rome's greatest lawyer, Marcus Tullius Cicero. The parallels to our situation today are striking.

Hello Stock, So as not to repeat myself, I'll say I just posted a brief set of observations re "capitalism" in reply to Sharp (below). One point I did not develop in the note to Sharp was the issue of "expansion by exploitation". Capitalism can't avoid this practice – and IMO we've reached "the ends of the earth" in terms of what to exploit next. We're in a tough spot – earth and its inhabitants. If part of what we need to do is cast a critical eye and analysis on capitalism, we'd best do so, IMO. This does not mean that we should consider totalitarian "communism" as some kind of solution (and to genuine scholars and Marxists never has meant this.) Far from it! Totalitarian states, be they corp or govt run, do not serve "the people" and do not enhance lives of either individuals or their communities "the commons",(IMO).
Report Comment
Sorry Jonnyo but you are going the wrong way, It is not capitalism that is corrupt, it is government that is corrupt.
True capitalism is trying to sell your car for 2500 or best offer, one guy offers 1799 and then another offers 2000, you sell to the 2000 offer.
Where it goes wrong is when government offer a tax incentive to a company or charges 2 different competitors a different tax rate. Our government pays milk farms to kill their milk cows to prop up the price for the rest of them, Our government pays for the insurance for nuclear because if they had to buy insurance on their own it would not be profitable. Our government pays farmers not to grow wheat because the large ones can't make a certain profit.
True capitalism is the way to go, but every government, gets bought by larger companies to distort capitalism, If you nationalized companies, and did away with capitalism the problems will only get worse.
The biggest problem is allowing governments to gain too much control.
Since 1900 our population has grown 4 times,
Government employees has grown 4000 times,
Government spending has grown 20,000 times.
Therein lies the problem.

I agree that free-market, entrepreneurial capitalism offers many benefits.
The question is how to regulate it so that it does not become what we have, monopoly-capitalism, a.k.a., corporatism, or fascism (when corporations and the government merge).
Yes I know that government regulations are not always well conceived. But, we saw what happens when there is no regulation with the financial crisis.
Unfortunately, we also see regulatory capture with the NRC and just about every other agency in the US.
I'm beginning to think that the problem really is greed and selfishness.
I think most any system could work if people were socially and economically cooperative and honest.

it's what i've been trying to highlight when i say the mob.media.corp.guv
we are in an era of supreme fascism, it's the people.flora.fauna.earth versus mob.media.corp.guv

for those of us further away, there are many 'butterfly effects' in between. so i reckon, hang in there, stay healthy, workout, eat as well as possible, learn and be prepared for the worse, hope for the best.

Majia – I so agree with "if people were socially and economically cooperative and honest." And I agree with "free-market, entrepreneurial … offers many benefits." My particular passion is especially strong with the first quote!
In the second quote of your remarks, I left out "capitalism" because capitalism specifically does *not* submit itself to a free-market, and can be hostile to the "entrepreneur". Capitalism is not the least bit interested in "economic cooperative" models – the true capitalist "needs" to be anti-democratic and needs to control as large a market share as possible. Capitalism is excellently revealed in the Monopoly board game.
I know good-hearted honest entrepreneurial types who are inclined toward cooperation but who also think that they are "capitalists". They are not, but they lack understanding and don't know that they don't know! They refuse to "hear" a single critical word on capitalism, and politically support mega-corporate interests again and again.
(But I keep piping up, when I can, to nudge them toward minds more willing to ask questions!)

Sharp, I'm no Marxist scholar but in trying to understand forces at work in social/corp/govt policies of our time I've turned over many rocks, including taking a look into Marxist theory. I'm so glad I did! (My recommendation – David Harvey's course lectures: http://davidharvey.org/reading-capital/) The popular meme, especially in the USA, is that Marx was a rabid communist who wanted to violently crush and replace capitalism. It's a kind of gross ignorance of who Marx was and what he did. He was an *analyst* who wanted to understand and document power forces at play in the rising industrial revolution. He was also deeply committed to democratic rule by "the masses" (workers, in his world). He identified important weaknesses/flaws in capitalism that proponents of the system, if they want it to work, would be well-advised to consider. I think the inherent flaw comes down to "profit as driver". With profit as driver, *everyone*, even the capitalist is subordinated, becomes "alienated from self". With profit as driver, also, expansion and "consolidation toward monopoly" are unavoidable. Need to control, to have "power-over" becomes "everything". My summary here may be weak in significant ways but I think I've captured a few key points Marx made.
Personally, I think humanity is waking to some kind of "cooperative-driven society" of a new kind – one that honors both unique individual and commons. Marx would be pleased, at the potential, I think.

I realize this 'aside conversation' is off topic to the immediate and on-going crisis and unspeakable stress/suffering that brings us to this site – and don't want to stray much farther down a side-road. But it's also true that economic and power/control issues underlie the situation, so a moment's side-trip may have value. A clarifying note to my post – "economic enterprise" is *not* the same as "capitalism". I grew up in the 1950's, in American farm country. I knew all kinds of people, regular members of community, who offered goods or services "for profit". These people were *not* capitalists. They were not trying to "grow and expand", were not aggressive in business style or trying to "maximize profit". They were decent, honest, contributing – and knew their fortunes rose/fell with everyone else's. They earned good incomes, lived in nice homes, took annual holidays – but all these still in the "modest" range. (Of course, these types of small businesses are largely gone – consumed by capitalist model expansion.)

Hi Maggie
I like David Harvey's work very much.
Also Naomi Klein's.
I think Marx was an optimist because he failed to appreciate the issue of environmental degradation.
Also, he had too much faith in the state.
The secular democratic state has failed us all.
But Marx was correct about the power of ideology and false consciousness.

Majia, Maggie, Richard, I know I opened a huge can of worms, everything is subject to what if. But the fact is every system thought up will be subjugated, by the greedy and power hungry. It is in our DNA, without it we would have never made it this far. Socialism, capitalism, communism, or anything you dream up, will be corrupted by a few who let thier instinct over rule their modern social brain.
