June 16, 2012 post by Koichi Oyama, Minamisoma city council member, translated by
Dissensus Japan:

Trick of “Air-dose”

Don’t be taken in by the trick of Gamma ray measured at 1 meter above the ground.

[...]

ICRP, Japanese scientists, governments or doctors ignore the complexity of human bodies, and pretend as if we were all hollow plastic dolls.

Brain neurons, which are most important to human, do not regenerate, unlike the other organs or muscles.

[...]

They use SV as a psychological trick to make the dose look lower. Thus dangers are not recognized.

[...]

ICRP and the other nuclear promoters have created a layer of self-defense.

They use complex mathematics to make the damages look smaller. I guess that the scientists all know about it.

The tool we can rely on is our intuition.

{CONCLUSION} The formula, which regards living beings as non-organic materials, does ignore the nervous system and the brain functions that controls the entire body.

[...]

City Mayor, do not compare the dose of Minamisoma to the other places, and say it is lower or better.

There are many spots that release higher dose, so stop picking one low-radiation spot to convince us that we can still live here.

[...]

After all, the most important factors when you decide to evacuate yourselves are the time, distance and radioprotection.

It’s better for you to leave Fukushima.

We all have the right to move to another place, but we are getting no compensation.

If there is any member of parliament reading this, I would like to ask him/her: “Do you want to reduce your life expectancy?”

I wonder what the parliament members said when they learned of this?

"..One of the most important developments in radiobiology in recent years has been a change in the concept of the ability of the nervous system to withstand the effects of ionizing radiation. Until recently
it had been gene rally believed that the tissue of the nervous system was especially resistant to radiation and that any kind of damage to it could occur only at
extremely high radiation doses. Over the past few years, however, there has been increasing evidence to show that the nervous system responds to even
small doses of radiation and that this response may
often be associated with some form of radiation damage. …"

"…A reference to this change was made by the IAEA Direct or General, Mr.Sterling Cole, in his opening remarks at a Symposium on the Effects of Ionizing Radiation on the Nervous System held by the Agency in Vienna from 5 to 9 June 1961. He recalled that Dr. Peter Alexander, the well-known British radiobiologist, had written to the Agency: "i was asked recently if brain functions, in particular with regard to finer judgments,a reliable to be affected by doses of the order of 50 – 100 roentgens since in severe accidents selected personnel may have to expose themselves to such levels. Until recently I would not have hesitated to dismiss the possibility that someone experiencing such a dose might not be able to exercise his full judgment, but in view of more recent work the subject is now wide open. "

the good uys from the iaea came up with this.. hope the parliment reads enenews for the facts..

"..But even the response to very small doses, without representing identifiable damage to the central nervous system itself, may be associated with some other manifestation of radiation damage, "in truth ", said Dr. Caster, "it may turn out that a central nervous system response is an important underlying factor in the causation of many of the common manifestations of radiation damage. Do you want live in stone age, because main radiation comes, not from nuclear industry, but from fossil fuel industry e.g. coal burning release radioactive substances into air, natural gas burning release radon and etc. Fossil fuel industry is responsible for 85% electricity production world wide. I rather live near nuclear plant, than coal – cleaner air and radiation is the same as natural background radiation. And before you begin talk about solar and wind energy as alternative, do research about these alternatives. These alternatives have huge drawbacks and in near future, cannot replace fossil fuels or nuclear energy.

"..Many studies of prenatally exposed survivors of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki have shown that exposure to ionizing radiation during gestation has harmful effects on the developing human brain. Data on the occurrence of severe mental retardation as well as variation in intelligence quotient (IQ) and school performance show significant effects on those survivors exposed 8-15 and 16-25 weeks after ovulation. Studies of seizures, especially those without a known precipitating cause, also exhibit a radiation effect in survivors exposed 8-15 weeks after ovulation. The biologic events that subtend these abnormalities are still unclear. However, magnetic resonance imaging of the brains of some mentally retarded survivors has revealed a large region of abnormally situated gray matter, suggesting an abnormality in neuronal migration. Radiation can induce small head size as well as mental retardation, and a review of the relationship between small head size and anthropometric measurements, such as height, weight, sitting height and chest circumference, shows that individuals with small head size have smaller anthropometric measurements than normocephalics. …"

"…..This suggests that radiation-related small head size is related to a generalized growth retardation. Finally, the issue of a threshold in the occurrence of one or more of these effects, both heuristically and from a regulatory perspective, remains uncertain. Simple inspection of the data often suggests that a threshold may exist, but little statistical support for this impression can be advanced, except in the instance of mental retardation…"

arclight…I'm surprised of this post coming from you, pleeease. No offense.

The IAEC, the WHO, the NRC, et al have virtually no credibility on the subject of low dose radiation or any other type of radiation exposure.

All their propaganda has been blown away by research from Hiroshima/Nagasaki, Three Mile Island, Chernobyl and various other nuclear releases and exposures…over 30,000 studies just from Chernobyl.

The IAEC is a nuclear proliferation organization that is largely responsible for where we are in this horrific condition of nuclear power generation.

Discussions whether there are possible/probable problems with the central nervous system and low dose radiation is like being concerned with a patient who is bleeding to death because his legs were cut off, and being concerned whether he has a cold.

If you want to see what low dose radiation causes, I suggest you start reading about Chernobyl. How about if you’re born with your brains outside of your head? I suggest you start here.. http://inmotion.magnumphotos.com/essay/chernobyl

      • One of the most notable effects of gestational exposure to iodine-131 has to do with brain development. At crucial periods early in gestation the mother's thyroid supplies hormones that trigger and help guide development, later the fetus' own thyroid takes increasing roles. Iodine is necessary to the production of a number of important metabolic hormones, and self-destructing biochemical constructs don't work very well. Damage to the gland itself – in mother or in fetus – leads to serious issues as well, long after the 131 has decayed 'away'.

Iodine 131 isn't the only bad actor for the endocrine system:
“Yttrium-90 doesn't mimic calcium, like strontium 90. But, like Sr90, it is also an organ-seeker and spews out a beta ray (and a gamma too). Whereas strontium-90 seeks out the skeleton, Yttrium-90 seeks out many soft tissue organs of the body, including the reproductive organs, the liver, lung, pancreas, and also the thyroid and pituitary glands… Synergistic effects – as discussed above – can play a huge role in how glandular malfunctions from yttrium-90 poisoning can affect pre- or neo-natal development. Mercury poisoning, diesel fumes, dioxin and other pesticide bioaccumulation, and more, can increase and diversify the range – or spectrum – of disorders whose root cause was prenatal or neonatal radiation-induced behavioral and CNS (central nervous system) damage……Although yttrium-90 has a half-life of just 64 hours – it decays to safe levels in about 30 days – there is a constant supply of fresh Yttrium-90 from the decay of strontium-90 in our bones. It emerges from the bone marrow into the blood and collects in the soft tissue organs. Our bodies are thus radiochemical factories: 24 hours a day, and 7 days a week, strontium-90 from our hard organs – the bone and teeth – is processed into yttrium-90 that collects in the soft tissues. Yttrium-90 emits a beta and gamma ray to become stable and non-radioactive zirconium-90, which is no good for our bodies either!” http://www.nuclearcrimes.org/3-4.php

  • You know they know all about the negative health affects of radiation but want to use the principal of ALARA, or "as low as reasonably achievable". The term is used according to Wikipedia, "interchangeably in the United States of America, almost exclusively in the field of Radiation Protection." It translates to secrecy and minimizing impact when reporting these incidents no matter what the country.

In Japan as in USA the response to Fukushima has been protecting certain minorities economic interests at the expense of the health of the majority. It doesn't make sense to you or me because we don't have the vested interest in the economy as these psychopath "Banksters" and other assorted economic/political/death industry pirates. Through their actions they are telling us that some people will get sick and die but that is better then economic downturn. Whats sad is everybody except our small minority enenews type folk are OK with this equation.

then there's Naomi Klein's Disaster Capitalism. worse than neglect and avoidance/outsourcing , they seek to profit from disasters they make (or take advantage off, take your pick). I half expect for them to buy up affected areas for nothing (austerity measures) , then proclaim a cure for cancer. easier though to just raise the "legal" thresholds and invest in (largely ineffective) medicine.
the cure for cancer theory must involve a cure for all the living things too, so I can't see that happening ( Dr Jim Beagle has some ideas about that though, satellite based frequency vibrators that can target specific cancer cells, or whatever, across vast swathes of land).
I'm gunning for murderous blinkered cowardly thugs in suits who cannot help themselves and have *no idea*.

A small correction here – brain cells regenerate, but not from other neurons, they regenerate from stem cells. So, your brain, like your blood depends on stem cells available in your body. You may find this interesting:
    http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2007-12/uof-bsc121107.php
Using a mouse model designed to reveal even slight changes in brain cell populations, scientists found radiation appeared to target a type of stem cell in an area of the brain believed to be important for learning and mood control.
