Gov’t starring in own show to bring Fukushima nuclear crisis ‘under control’, Mainichi Daily News, Dec. 23, 2011 [Emphasis Added]:
[...] The latest announcement that the goals of the road map have been achieved is merely the result of officials lowering their own hurdles. It reminds me of the time during World War II when the Imperial Japanese Army headquarters called the Japanese army’s retreat a “shift in position.” [...]
In a news conference on Dec. 16, TEPCO President Toshio Nishizawa called the completion of the road map for bringing the crisis under control a “milestone,” but a “milestone” achieved merely by lowering one’s own targets is meaningless. [...]
Lowered Target, Example A
One of the goals that TEPCO initially announced for step 2 was filling the reactor containment vessels with water. However, the utility abandoned this plan after it emerged that there were holes in the containment vessels. Eventually, officials decided to delay such measures for five years or more.
Lowered Target, Example B
The company also established a goal under step 2 of “dealing with and reducing the amount of radioactive water” on the site, but when the road map was rewritten, it was decided that there would “ongoing treatment” of contaminated water after the completion of other processes.

The point everyone should get here is that TEPCO never wanted to do anything in the first place to fix the problem. A nuclear event is one that needs to be controlled very quickly in order to prevent catastrophe. TEPCO did not do any of these steps that had been proven in Chernobyl. Instead they opted to go with a theoretical model to control a nuclear disaster at a plant located on the sea. The plan was to flush the reactors with water and hope that they can continue until they have a permanent setup of flowing water in hopes that it cools the fuel. This approach has a few downsides. Possible China Syndrome and massive oceanic contamination from thousands of tons of nuclear Mox fuel seeping out of the building. The other possibility would be a sustained amount of water and boron blasting with nitrogen. The problem is that they don’t even know if these two measures reached the cores to prevent “melt out”. Melt out already happened in all 3 reactors. The response has been pitiful and dangerously misleading. Releasing this much radiation at once has never been done in human history yet these industry clowns claim there is “Cold Shutdown”. The blood of innocents is already being spilled and TEPCO is trying to wash their hands with strontium 90.

The water is almost boiling in Japan, and the frogs just start crying, very “bravo and disciplined” slavery Japanese society.
Your Analysis is correct, and almost every one on this forum realized that it will develop like this in the very beginning of 3.11.
The fact is very sad and hopeless.
They must have not only experts ,but workers and stuffs in TEPCO and Government, know this consequence of this 3.11 disaster from the Day ONE.
I do not believe that people like us has more common sense and knowledge than people in Nuke industry.
If we know and believe, they must know and know more than us.
It is too late and meaningless to condemn their elite leaders’ evil and criminal actions at this moment.
We need just to help and care the Japanese people, provide with them the information, showing our care and love, wake them up from the living dead mind-set individually.
Their cheerleaders in Japan is the same guys as their Army Generals during WW2, they not only call retreat as “shift of position”, but before that they fly the kites in air to stop B-29; now they already said to setup tents and concrete wall to cover the crippled reactors;
Now the declared the” Shift of Position”in this reactors, what is the next step they will doing:
They will encourage the japanes to kill their childern and women, old and sick first, and then commit suicide.
Go to find and read this terrible stories in Japanese history, and read what his parent said by that Bravo Japanese man on Fukushima Dairy after he discussed that he will leave Japan.
They are same bastard as 60 years back, their elite and society leaders.
There is no modernization in Japan ,democracy and civilization in Japan is an totally failure in this case.

It’s too bad the people of the world who are super rich, can’t spend their time and money in actions to improve life.
It’s too bad they can’t build up treasures in Heaven, and use their wealth for good, rather than evil.
It’s too bad a tiny number of Satan worshippers command so much wealth, and trample the lives of nearly all the people of the world.
It’s too bad the owners of nuclear power won’t just throw the towel in, and put their resources behind free energy sources.
They have enough money to ‘survive’ even if they did that.
Too bad the world can’t be revolutionized by nickel-hydrogen cold fusion, or radiowave water splitting, or any of a hundred other alternative means which involve no nuclear power, no coal, no petroleum even.

My feeling is that TEPCO did this to make the Government happy with giving them trillions of Yen to continue to “clean up” their Trillion Dollar Eco-Disaster!
This is all about public perception, not safety!

First we heard a meltdown was a worst case scenario. Then we heard an explosion was a worst case scenario. Then we heard a fire or explosion in the spent fuel pool was a worst case scenario. Then we heard a loss of reactor containment was a worst case scenario. Then we heard having the core(s) leave the containment and hit the water table was the worst case scenario.
So far, all but the last “worst case scenario” has happened, on many fronts.
Let’s face it, can it get much worse than it already has?
This is really telling ….
“One of the goals that TEPCO initially announced for step 2 was filling the reactor containment vessels with water. However, the utility abandoned this plan after it emerged that there were holes in the containment vessels. Eventually, officials decided to delay such measures for five years or more.”
WTH ????? Unbelievable. I hope TEPCO put out more feelers for help from the international community than just a news release to NHK TV.
The question is: is there anything else that can be done, at this late stage in the game?
It doesn’t give me a lot of peace of mind knowing Arnie G. is now in the camp that thinks the fuel may burn through containment and hit the groundwater ….

“Bringing the situation under control was possible because this happened in Japan; overseas it would have been impossible.”
This implies that foreign journalists have made assumptions based on what they know from their own country, and that anything the foreign journalists report is not applicable to Fukushima.
But who is buying it?

Assuming that a people whose mental fortitude had been compromised by the shear devastation of the earthquake and tsunami can overcome even a more catastrophic event that the 3 to 4, maybe more, nuclear meltdowns and explosions have caused, is a bit unrealistic inmho. Instead, a world fire department should have been dispatched within 1 hour of the earthquake. Since everyone wants to be a hero, there must be an authority in place to stop all the unqualified volunteers.

I wonder what kind of radiation levels are in the ‘decontaminated’ water, and what types of radiation is still in the water? Who is monitoring what is being dumped, burned, buried, sprayed on forest, or being used as landfill in Tokyo Bay?
No data I bet on this important subject.
I heard previously that there was so much water with radiation being stored on site in huge tanks, that they were running out of room.
Could this just be a ploy to just dump everything in the ocean, instead of storing it?
There is way too much radioactive water to deal with, and I think they are getting overwhelmed. With no changes, this is going to keep happening for YEARS, maybe centuries.
They are only months into this, and already overwhelmed.
Maybe they should have a radioactive fire sale, 2 Million B

It is good to see you posting. I’ve missed your comments.
How can you be so certain of that scenario?
I believe that Japan is terribly contaminated (get out now!) but I am uncertain about elsewhere.
How much total fallout outside of Japan?
I put some data together from studies that show northern Japan has been terribly contaminated but I am not sure how bad the fallout has been in other areas.
http://majiasblog.blogspot.com/2011/12/fallout.html
The ocean is terribly impacted. Radiation will end up in our food and precipitation through the ocean.
But will it be bad enough to cause truly massive numbers of losses?
How can we know when every bit of evidence seems so uncertain?
How bad was the fallout during atmospheric testing in the 50s and 60s? Was it as bad as this or worse?
I feel as if I’m living in a terrible “funhouse” where all the mirrors are distorted and there is no escape, yet the threats are so warped that it is hard to gauge risk.
How much radiation is actually being released?
How unusual are these beta and gamma levels that are still reported in a few states and cities?

More like 100 times Chernobyl.
Why do I think it is global impacting? Because the Frankenstein eggheads have known for decades a disaster at a multiplex plant would encompass the Northern hemisphere.
The MOX fuel, the massive SFRs burning… the 2,000 bomb tests may be equivalent in radiation of some of the isotopes to this single event, but this event is playing out in a year while the bombs dispersed over 50 years.
The real thing to watch for is abandonment of the plant…if it drives the limited numbers of humans away who are doing their barebones mitigation efforts… Then a new phase begins. They should be trying to do everything possible to secure Daiini because Daiichi is a lost cause. Just wait until the plastic pipes freeze and things will get ugly fast.

Why does TEPCO and the Japanese Gov’t want to declare it’s Fukushima disaster Stable and more importantly, what do they hope to accomplish by doing it now?
A. If the people “swallow” this Nuclear Baloney (NB) then TEPCO and their other Gov’t Leaders get to keep their jobs and march onward toward a nuclear future while the Nuclear refugees are “encouraged” to return to their Fukushima homes; letting history be the judge of whether or not this was the RIGHT decision.
B. The people of Japan reject the concept of a “cold shut down” in which case TEPCO, in time, gets nationalized and Japan develops a 20 year plan to replace it’s reactors with solar of all flavors!
C. The people of Japan are insulted by what TEPCO and their Gov’t is saying and take to the streets to DEMAND immediate change. TEPCO and their Government overseers are both swept away in order to placate the people of Japan. The Nuclear Refugees get settlements and the area around Fukushima is closed to all but scientific personal for the foreseeable future. Japan’s PM pledges to “race” Germany toward New Japanese developed Solar and being Nuclear within FIVE years…
The Japanese people are now at a cross roads that will define both their future, their children’s future and possibly the future of Nuclear Power on Earth!
What will they now do:
…Bow to TEPCO?
…Accept their Leaders vow to do better?
…Or Demand much less Nuclear ASAP?

Does anyone wonder why there are no radiation meters on the 700 foot tall ‘vent’ stacks?
Did you ever notice that Fukushima monitoring stations are all upwind, but there are NONE downwind? What is coming out of them anyway?
http://www.tepco.co.jp/en/nu/fukushima-np/f1/index-e.html
I just checked, and many months after the disaster, there are still NO RADIATION METERS downwind of the plant.
Of course, since almost all of the time the wind blows out over the ocean, there is no radiation to report. Bingo, no problems.
Everything is safe, and no dangerous radiation is measured, even after MULTIPLE massive explosions and all kinds of things burning, blowing up, neutron rays, green glowing things, fires, etc.
You would think they could install at least ONE radiation meter downwind, but then again, they might not like what they measure as much… and the public might not like to see what is coming out of Fukushima.
Is the type of ‘measuring’ that NISA, TEPCO and the Japanese goverment is claiming to do around the plant even considered scientific? I cannot believe the world is even listening to these Bu(#*@)) radiation readings being put out, by a half circle of meters put upwind of all radiation being released.
It does not suprise me one bit that no one can figure out how much radiation is being released from FUKU.
Isn’t this kind of like trying to measure the amount of water coming out of a fire hose, by standing a couple of blocks away and hold up a water meter in the air, and feeling a little of the dew from the high pressure water from a couple blocks away?
Duhhhhh, no water here… there must not be any fire. Anyone saying anything different is just fear mongering!

Compelling Evidence: Quakes Caused By Nuke Plants
“Finnish scientist describing the Fukushima theory…. large holes underneath the plant IMPACTED by the blasts, which occurred after the large 9.0 earthquake, which itself was caused by the use of HAARP to remove PREVIOUS radioactive ionizing radiation from the air, strip electrons, and have them drawn into the ground via HAARP CONJUGATE POINT physics . As he says in the video… its like hammering a nail down into the ground.
“The explosion @ fukushima produced a VERY large pressure blast. When the blast blew down the chambers below the Fukushima reactors…. this caused a chain reaction to occur at the layer of natural gas / methane that literally encompasses the entire planet at a certain layer in the earths crust. Which in turn has now caused problems at MULTIPLE reactors around the world that are built the same way.
“This ALL happened because of a switch to an unstable combination of nuclear reactor core materials… Uranium and LETHAL plutonium….”
