Fukushima I Nuke Plant: Steam Rising from Reactors 2 and 3, EX-SKF, September 24, 2011:
The latest videos of Reactors 2 and 3 at Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant show steam rising from the locations where the reactors are located. [...]
According to Asahi Shinbun (9/24/2011), TEPCO thinks:
“Under the steam are the reactors. It could be either the steam is escaping from the reactor, or the rainwater is evaporating on the lid of the reactor which is hot.”
Looking at the videos, they do not look like rainwater being evaporated, as the steam comes out unevenly and sporadically. If it’s rainwater I would imagine a steady rise of steam.

If i sell my North American house then move to and buy cheap home in Fukushima, i will live for maybe five years, but just my luck if i do this, gonna be big steam eruption of radiation and i will live for only two or three years.
…So would it be worth it to do?

Reactor 3, I think this may be only small amount of fission here and the larger part of corium is elsewhere underground, being so little steam in this video, major mass of core may have been blown to many places !

To much red wine for you mister!!
At the rate of which this disaster is unfolding and the likelihood something serious will go down soon, Fukushima won’t exist at all, we are due to more earthquakes tsunamis and whatever else and the corium slinky needs to re appear else it’s coming into contact with the ground water if not already, as the message is getting around more and more Japanese, the wiser ones are boarding planes and getting the he’ll out of Japan , let’s not taking evacuation cause although it needs to happen it can’t with the population they have and all the inbred rabbits will soon follow
Report Comment
Makes me want to move also, and I’m not in Japan.
I don’t believe this has any potential of getting better any time soon.
Report Comment
Can they cover it the way they did at chernobyl? I know its sunk through, but can they at least keep above ground from getting worse?
Is there anything that can be done?
Report Comment
Can they cover it? Nope- They cannot as it is too hot to cover the top would just trap gases until a massive explosion would rip it to shreds- Can they cool it down then cover it? Nope that was 6 months ago and that window has firmly closed. Can they pull the cores out and stick them in spent fuel pools? Nope the fuel is down under the ground making fissures in the rock layer below the Nuke Plant itself- Are they Fd? Yes are We? Soon my friend soon..

Covering it is only cosmetic, deeper the coriums go the farther out reaching the radiation will travel via under the earth through cracks, fissure’s, water, air, will spread in intensity as radiation grows throughout the area’s affected and it will encompass Japan and surrounding country’s soon enough, they should also look for relocation and a new home abroad !

SF* bay. Sorry
Report Comment
Hi chaossquared, I live in the SF bay area also. I bought a geiger counter a while ago. I have done pretty minimal testing here, but so far the measurements of background radiation are relatively normal. I haven’t seen anything like some of the stuff found in Canada.
I tested a windshield wet from the dew in Santa Rosa the other day…normal. I have ridden my bike around SF and Marin with the geiger counter strapped on. The levels are normal, but every once in a while it jumps up to something high. My speculation is that it may be hitting a hot particle every once in a while.I have tested a few damp areas, ponds, gutters etc. and still not found anyhting really alarming.
A friend had the geiger counter for a while; he tested the east bay some and didn’t find anything alarming, either. Now I have it back so I will continue testing. I want to test car air filters and water filters next.
I am not saying with conviction that it’s safe here, I am just saying that so far the background radiation levels seem fairly normal.
But in my opinion, the west coast is in some ways a safer area to be than east, because the farther east you go, the more NPPs there are. And then there are also labs like Los Alamos, Livermore, etc.
Really the danger is everywhere. But if an accident happened on the east coast it could be really serious because of the large concentration of NPPs there. I could see a domino effect happening there that could be the end for sure.

Alos, tacomagroove’s post below could very well be true (that Fuku is an ELE), although it seems like it will be a while for it to all play out. I don’t know if we will all die tomorrow from it. The articles about plutonium being released in gas form is certainly concerning.
The thing is, what can you do if it’s already happened, we’ve already been contaminated? Or if the releases can’t be stopped, we will all be contaminated eventually. Moving won’t help.
But my optimistic side looks at the number of people alive and thriving on the planet despite the levels of toxicity we are exposed to daily (it’s not just radiation that causes cancer), and I think it will be a while before we are all wiped out. Maybe I’m wrong, but I think the best attitude is to try to make the best of the life we have since we don’t know what will happen. Maybe we all think we’re going to die, and we won’t.
And supplements are always good. I’d post some, but I’ve got to go…look up some of the comments people have posted about supplements. And I reccomend Kombucha, a fermented drink found in health food stores.

I was thinking the same as you WCGirl after many tests. The other day to my surprise I got a 3.35 uSv/hr reading from my car after heavy rain from the north! So keep testing! I have video proof of this event with multiple tests, but I recorded to many revealing things so I have been editing the video. The thing is now I can’t show the full test method in one shot

Toadmac, do you know why the Geiger counter will suddenly go from normal numbers to a high number? Like say, from 0.08 to 0.49 all of a sudden, and say high radiation background… is is detecting a hot particle or something?

westcoastgirl – I think you have a really good point. I was feeling kinda vulnerable living here in direct path of Fukushima air and water currents… but you are quite right, there is more risk to live in and path of ANY North American plant with emissions…. considering you’d be choking down the LOCAL poisons ON TOP OF the ONGOING Fukushima toxic soup…. never thought of it that way so thanks. I thought we were goners here on the coast. Maybe I’m wrong about that….

yeah, you could move to the east coast and they could suddenly have ameltdown of one of there 50 or so factors in the area…
Report Comment
Didn’t realize my post had so many typos, I was on my tablet… what I meant to say is a meltdown of one of their 50 or so reactors. At least on the west coast there are only a few, and they are at least somewhat prepared for earthquakes.
I could see things getting out of hand easily if there were a major accident with just one reactor there, given the close proximity to other ones. And a solar flare knocking out power would be catastrophic.

Warriors are for wars. That’s the last thing we need right now, another damn war. Also in military etiquette (which you would know if you had served) the honorific of warrior is bestowed upon you, not claimed.
Running with the metaphor, collateral damage is what happens when some goose fires on his own comrades. This usually occurs as a result of inexperience, panic, lack of discipline and sometimes ‘bloodlust’ or eagerness to engage the enemy. A good NCO can usually pick the one most likely to offend, and keep a close eye on them. Saves everyone else having to worry all the time.

I agree tomb1, the violence and energy in that one was almost certainly derived from a high pressure containment failing (could have sworn that I saw a large chunk of it falling back out of the mushroom cloud) although I don’t know if it was steam or nuclear in origin – not that it affects the outcome, I guess. Body Slams
For Taco, Elenin, et al;
One of my dearest friends, a meterologist threw me under the bus yesterday. Saying his government to which he devoted his entire life would not lie.
They are known to be very polite in Canada.
I forwarded the vital info provided here, and invited him to investigate.
Would not even say sorry to the burnt throat etc. I mentioned.
I have suffered from Rheumatoid Arthritis since age 28, and am now 52. I have six older siblings.
I have never been offered any encouragement or help of any kind. Just to be discarded like trash.
I’m not complaining in the least, for I love them and have ALWAYS wished them good life and success.
In my life I have been givin knowlage that I did not no where it came, or why, but I love science, and however scary, it provides me an escape from the “Daily Programing”.
But these body slams hurt, and they hurt badly, one just has to give up for sanity’s sake, and I understand this so very well.
Miss”Groove” when I read your goodbye the tears as right now, are making it difficult to type.
If my truck was not busted I would run to Tacoma and hold you tight, kiss you loving tears away pull a few corks and as it is a rarity for me, GET BLASTED!!
They may bite you my Cascade Lioness, and right now you might even question is love real after all, but remember this…We are one, and you can only be defeated if you want to be, but I know that we few, we band of brothers will care for you now…We Will hold you, now rest up a bit.
Love IS after all, all we will ever need.

I spent some time looking at the only high def photos at http://cryptome.org/eyeball/daiichi-npp/daiichi-photos.htm
While looking, I noticed a distinct difference between unit three and the others that exploded. The large pipe that connects the vent stack to the reactor had been blown off the side of the building, but it appears to have imploded.
Does anyone know if the Unit three stack was engaged, or for that matter if any of them where?

Thanks for the pictures. #4 is unbelievably scary. Since three of the reactors at Fuku Daini have been raed by TEPCO for many months as at the same level of crisis as #4 at Fuku Daiichi, someone should demand high def photos of all the reactors and Fuku Daini and radiation readings. No wonder we have never seen any photos of Fuku Daini only 5 or 6 miles away. And only 16 miles SSW of Daini there have and continue to be over 50 earthquakes on an ongoing basis.

My concern is whether or not reactor 3′s venting system was engaged, and if the others were not. I’m wondering if some how the vent stack played a role in the violent explosion at reactor 3.
My understanding is that the vents need to be manually engaged from within the reactor building.
Has anyone heard any reports of what happened that first day?
