Title: Fukushima After the Meltdown

Revisiting Chernobyl: A Nuclear Disaster Site of Epic Proportions
The nuclear crisis in Japan has renewed interest in the 1986 nuclear meltdown at Chernobyl in Ukraine. Science correspondent Miles O’Brien traveled to the site of the world’s worst nuclear disaster, shortly before its 25th anniversary.
At 3:30 in
MILES O’BRIEN: They called them liquidators. And Vasyl Kavatsiuk was one of them. A demolition expert, he spent 37 days working at the wrecked reactor. [...] His wife, Maria, gave birth to a girl, Marta, in 1987. Just shy of her second birthday, she died suddenly of leukemia. In 1989, they had another daughter, Maria. She too contracted leukemia, but survived.
Is there a lot of cancer in your family?
VASYL KAVATSIUK: Never had one.
MILES O’BRIEN: Never?
VASYL KAVATSIUK: Never.
MILES O’BRIEN: Is there any doubt in your mind that the leukemia your two daughters had, had something to do with Chernobyl?
VASYL KAVATSIUK: I have no doubt about that.
MILES O’BRIEN: There’s no doubt radiation causes cancer and genetic defects. The fast-moving subatomic particles plow into molecules with enough energy to knock lose electrons. The dinged molecules, called ions, can kill or damage cells. Enough of this will kill you quickly. Less damage can cause cancer or, if DNA is the target, create genetic mutations.

Am I hearing this correctly? Is this statement of basic fact about the deadly effects of radiation upon living cells actually coming from Miles O'Brien's mouth? Is this the same Miles O'Brien who during FrontLine's documentary a couple months ago claimed eating a hamburger was more dangerous than exposure to radiation fallout from Fukushima???
If so, it appears that Mr. O'Brien has "found religion" as the saying goes. Perhaps the thousands of negative comments PBS received after that documentary gave them pause and concern that airing such nuclear apologia tripe would not be supported by their paying audience of supporters?
Whatever the reason, we at Enenews certainly welcome it! No time like the present to wake up and learn the sad truth about the horrors which radiation contamination unleashes upon our planet and all living things.

WATK; step away from your computer, now turn it off, tell you husband that the two of you are going out to dinner, I suggest the Alaskan, order up a couple of drinks, ok maybe three, be sure and order a great bottle of wine, eat hardy, enjoy each others love, clear your head.
Take two of these and call me in the morning…….:-)

LOL, Tom. Now THAT's the best idea I've heard in a long time. I think we all definitely could use a break about now.
Hope you take a nice relaxing break as well.

It seems that the 1 year anniversary "visits" to Fukushima by reporters backfired on them.
When the reporters got there, found out how bad it really was, and that they most likely shortened their lives by going there, then they got angry,
I think Miles must have figured out he was duped.

You know, James2, I have a sneaking suspicion you may be right about that. Like I said, nothing like the present to learn the facts…before it is too late.

Thank you so much, Norbu. So simply and beautifully stated. It is a beautiful, heartfelt reminder as to why we are all here. Really, is there anything more important than being good stewards of our planet? The only life-sustaining planet that we know of?
What is that beautiful Native people's saying? Something like: "The Earth is a gift we inherit from our children?" Another words, it is our duty to treat it with respect so that our children and future generations to come will have a clean environment to live in.

One future
With no nuclear power AT ALL.
