This is a re-upload from my old channel.
This video is a combination of two different video segments to show a contrast in attitudes towards the radiation safety standards for food between Belarus and Japan.

The first one is from a Swiss TSI TV program entitled "Ten Years after the Chernobyl Accident"(1998), broadcasted on Japan's NHK BS1 in an unidentified year. A scientist speaking in the segment is late Dr. Vassilli Nesterenko, a physicist from Belarus, who made tremendous efforts on the consequences of the Chernobyl catastrophe.

Please also note that even children who lived more than 200km away from the Chernobyl plant suffered from terrible health problems.

The second segment is from a NHK Fukushima's local news program called "HamaNaka Aizu Today" aired on February 16, 2012, reporting the new radiation safety standards for food that will become effective in April.

FukuYou: I wondered how he responded – just viewed the video from where the mom speaks to the end. Very Good video! http://youtu.be/LU-Z4VLDGxU. Covers some history of Japan/US/GE; features disaster issues also in Onagawa, a different community; and includes situation of workers. I could have used more narrator 'transition' comments when footage shifted from one time/place to another.

No way to know if the guy licked the dirt – but we know the usual 'script'!

I think "lick the dirt", "eat the food", "live there yourself" are very strong arguments. These challenges resonate with common sense thought among all who hear them and witness the response.

The response is to ignore or pretend not to have heard. Acknowledging puts a spotlight on the validity of the challenge. Because they are ignored, these challenges, IMO, need to be made again, again, and again – at every opportunity.

"Officialdom" likes to keep itself safe and comfortable while "reassuring" those who're facing extreme harm. IF 'officials' won't lick the dirt, won't eat the food, won't move to 'the front lines' – why not? It's a back of mind logical puzzle.

Logical conclusion is they won't take risks because they know it's unsafe or at best are unsure. Which means they don't believe their own reassurances. Which means they know they're not telling the truth.

I think there are many mothers doing what they feel is in their power…I mean, what would you do, if say there were 104 nuclear power plants that, in the course of routine operations, were continually spewing a witchʻs brew of radionuclides into the ground, water and air?? and these same plants stored thousands of tons of highly radioactive spent fuel on site, or worse, right above the reactor that spawned them!?! and what if, in this hypothetical country, the government made plans to build more of these plants and to relicense aging plants already passed there life expectancy?? and what if this country, (letʻs say the only one in history to attack another nation with nuclear weapons), continued to sell and export nuclear technology to developing countries (allies) around the world?!? what would a concerned mother do then? Would she attack? how would she attack them?? with more words, throw lawyers at them or weapons perhaps?? Whatʻs a mother to do??

I think this woman who directly challenged this government official face-to-face was being quite brave and doing what she could at the time…for those who havenʻt noticed, we now find ourselves in a global police state. Even to only speak truth to power is a courageous and dangerous act that may land you in prison or worse. This woman should be commended by all of us…and if someone has an idea of what more she could do, then step up and help her with more that words!

bearing the cost of nuclear shame.

I am furious. This is a mother who knows her child is going to die over the petty, selfish, vindictive, cowardly actions of a psychotic group of dishonorable men.

Men of Japan, what was happened to you that you would let your government kill your children over nuclear power plant corporate profit? When did you give your souls away? Stand the fuck up. Stop working. Stop losing yourselves in petty entertainments and stop lining the pockets of the men in government who are killing your legacies.

Men of America turn the television off, unplug, and PAY ATTENTION. The GE corporation with the help of the American government and global banking system has unleashed a global radioactive nightmare on every person on this planet. It is a catastrophe. There is no longer anything more important than this.
